This restaurant is in a quaint town. The food was good but I didn't care for the ambiance. It had a stuck up feeling. We didn't feel very welcome at all. I have been in this restaurant a few times over the past few months. My wife and taste me to come down to have a brunch type meal after we biked a few miles on the bike trail in Wintergarden. So I obliged her and join her for lunch. I ordered a salad that came out phenomenal. My wife's food came out perfect as well. The only drawback to this facility is that the only offer wine and beer you cannot order a cocktail. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. But still, I hope someone though this up and it wasn't just a fluke. For a first-time visit, I was content! The server was super friendly, the locale casual and easy to find (their sign is very artsy) , the food quite tasty. We met our friends here for a birthday lunch. Being Monday we weren't surprised to find it barely full. You walk through the porch (with seating for about 16, and bowls for the four-legged family members) into an old-style, dark wood locale with tables, booths, and a long right-side bar. The front windows and transoms make it nice and bright in there, not at all what you'd be picturing based on the previous sentence. We waited a very reasonable amount of time and our food came: filet mignon sandwich with fries, Cuban with beans and rice and a chicken-strawberry salad. I can tell you the salad was delicious, with marinated (not just barely salted) chicken slices atop a bed of crisp mixed greens, topped with blue cheese and walnuts. I sub'd poppyseed dressing 'cause it's my fave :) The others made the usual full-mouth, 'I'm enjoying this' noises, and it was mentioned later that their fare was as good as mine; the fries being the only meh item (hubby mentioned that, had he requested the usual crispy, they'd likely have been excellent). The filet was medium and very tender, the Cuban tasty, the rice and beans flavorful. Bottom line: we'll be seen there again, perhaps in the evening to enjoy the live music. read more

We're totally regulars at Moon Cricket Restaurant and I normally give them 5*... and the Wagu Burger totally deserves 5*!! It was cooked perfectly medium rare and served hot with fries HOWEVER... I ordered the Reuben and they brought me a prime rib sandwich . I didn't mind that the waitress made a mistake but she laughed about it, made a joke and said it'll be a couple mins and walked away. No apology. So there I sat watching my husband eating. No offer of apology or offer of something complimentary to drink... nothing. The meal/Reuben did come pretty quickly but it was like the bread had been soaked in grease - literally. I couldn't even pick it up. So I pulled it apart and used my utensils and put all the meat on one piece of bread (the least slimy). The waitress never did check back to see how everything was so I couldn't tell her. It's not that it didn't taste bad once I pulled it apart... but it certainly wasn't what I expected and/or paid for. Moon Creek Grille - the only difference between a 4 & 5 star is slim and more so because I have had a handful of experiences with 1-2 of the staff that honestly is a shame compared to the overall friendly service. this is my local bar and I don't even live all that close to call it that. I come here to get away for a few, hang out with friends, casual night with the family or to listen to live music. sometimes all of the above. Food is good for what they offer. Worst service I've ever had in my life! First waited 35 minutes before a waitress ever came... she had the worst attitude... I tried to be very sweet and understanding knowing they are short on staff... second people who got there after us got their food a good 20 minutes before us.. third... when We finally got our food my fries were not only cold but old... our waitress never once came and asked how things were... Fourth an hour went by before she ever brought the check... I gave her my credit card and 20 minutes later I had to go get my card back! When I asked for my card back she was very nasty... still I tried to stay nice... was going to tip her anyway... I asked what was the problem and she wore at me.. I spoke to the manager and his response was too bad! I then decided not to tip her!!! I wrote on the bill horrible service and even worse attitude! I know things are rough and I get short staffed but this was just horrible service!! Since the pandemic when I go out I usually tip 30-40%... or more depending on attitude and service! An order misunderstanding on the beer selections was left on the table and enjoyed @ n/c by a friend. The fried tomatoes were really perfect. Good size and hit the table too hot to eat and super crunchy. The romelade type dipping sauce was a really good add. A must try if you go here! The hamburger melt too, was too hot to eat but later proved well worth the wait. Med-well was spot on with grilled onions! Damn good really. Fries are Steak and Shake "shoe string" sized style (my favorite!) and was good to the very last littlest freakin' piece. Excellent food! Great atmosphere. Live singer on Saturday 3/16/19 was great. Server Barbara was very pleasant and helped decided on menu items as it was our first time there. We got fried green tomatoes and boom boom shrimp for appetizers. Fried green tomatoes were cooked to perfection. My SO liked the shrimp. I ordered fish plate for dinner and my SO got the cheeseburger. Everything tasted so delicious and we were full halfway through having more than enough to take home for another meal. Before I register my tale of woe, I wanted to provide a baseline regarding my opinion of this questionably titled bar and why my comments hold at least some merit. (Google the bar name if you're unfamiliar with the etymology. Refrain from this search while at a work terminal, as you may trigger a racist flag...). I popped into this establishment in 2006, long before a friend advised me of the name issue and well before the freakish popularity explosion of downtown Winter Garden. The offerings are above par for bar food and the wait staff is usually quite friendly and attentive. My wife, a vegetarian, has routine and tiresome ordeals when we attempt to identify locations with acceptable fare. She was ecstatic to discover they made a suitable sandwich and has ordered the same item for over 10 yrs. So regular was her order, numerous waitresses knew what she wanted before we were seated. The sandwich, by the way, is rather simple: hoagie roll, tomatoes, onions, cheese, and pesto. The same exact ingredients they offer for their flat bread, but she requests....a hoagie roll. Seems fairly simple. So why the one star review? On this day, she ordered her sandwich like any other visit. While eating our food, a woman stopped by the table and asked, "How is your special sandwich?" As I am particularly keen at picking up subtle cues of dissent, I knew our "special" conversation was about to degrade quickly. The woman next advised she was the owner's wife. My first thought, "Weird, as I have never laid eyes on you before during any of our visits to the bar." She then proceeded to advise how difficult this sandwich was to input into their system and suggested it was too overly customized. My wife and I starred at each other in disbelief as we were criticized for our ordering of food...at a place that serves food. The woman concluded that we should pay more attention to how busy their business is in the future and not order such a complex sandwich. The sandwich that literally takes no longer than 30 seconds to create with all of its four ingredients. Needless to say, we were completely flabbergasted by this unnecessary encounter. Unfortunately, I believe this is a business spoiled by the sudden success of its locale. They were more than happy to make the sandwich years ago when we were the few patrons filling the seats. However, in the time of the Winter Garden frenzy, this business can apparently afford to ostracize decade old customers. My wife and I have decided to help them with their business model and will comply with the request to not order this sandwich. We will never enter this establishment again. Solid repeat customers are hard to develop and maintain. What a waste that this bar has the luxury to toss them aside. read more

My husband and I found this spot looking for a place to get lunch on a rainy day since we had our puppy with us. I found Moon Cricket Grill on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. I seated myself on the patio since I could see a sign inside that said to seat yourself. I waited about 5 minutes looking over their extensive 99 beer list before someone came out with menus. I ordered my beer and it came very quickly, however my husband needed more time to look at the menu and our server didn't return for quite some time. I don't know if they were busy because of the rain or short staffed (there was a sign in the window mentioning they are hiring servers and cooks) but I felt like it was a hassle we were on the patio. I would have easily drank another beer but I never got a chance to order it and my husband asked for one and the server didn't bring it and he had to ask again. As far as the food, my husband ordered the Reuben with sweet potato chips and I ordered the margarita flatbread. Right before our food came out the server came over and said they were out of the sweet potato chips and asked my husband what he would like instead. From the first bite of my flatbread I could tell it had been sitting in the window for 15+ minutes. It was soggy and barely warm. The menu described it as "tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil pesto." It was a flour tortilla with herbs (definitely not pesto) and the mentioned tomatoes and mozzarella. My husbands Reuben was good, but we make the same at home cheaper. When our bill came my husband noticed that the $1 upcharge for sweet potato chips was still on there, but it was too late because my credit card had already been run. We may go back, but I would try again during non peak lunch hours. read more

I had the fish tacos with chips and salsa. They were great, and I basically did the "mmf so good" sounds at the first bite. Not mind-blowing or anything, but I rarely expect something as basic as that to be. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the gator bites on the menu anymore, but I haven't been here in years. The Sea Dog blueberry was also absolutely delicious, I stuck to it for my two beers, and I can't wait to try more of their beer selection. Service was impressively quick for a busy Saturday night, considering there seemed to be only about 3 servers working the whole place. It makes me wonder how quick it is during slow hours! My server was friendly, although she did forget a glass of water, but someone else picked it up for me in a jiffy, so I can't really complain. All in all a solid place for a good bite to eat. We've gone here for a couple of years for their burgers, and the outdoor seating. Went last week and were disappointed. I ordered chips with my burger and received fries. We asked for "no pink" in the burger and got a medium-cooked burger with plenty of pink meat. I paid $1.29 additional for avocado on the burger and got four tiny -and I mean tiny-slivers of avocado. When I mentioned that the avocado hardly seemed worth $1.29, the server said a lot of people had complained but they have new management who apparently doesn't care. The service was pretty good but I pointed out the rarity of the burger and got basically a shrug. We appreciate the outside seating but we won't come back until we hear that the place is under new management. read more

The menu offers a decent selection of typical pub food and an outstanding selection of beers to mull over. Unfortunately, that's where our luck ended. The food arrived in a good amount of time and although hot, absolutely flavorless and devoid of any way to know what it was we were eating other than its appearance. If it were possible to create food from hot empty matter and serve it for a price, this place knows how to do so and has figured out how to charge for it. We sat inside and even mid afternoon it was fairly busy. I ordered bang bang shrimp tacos and my husband ordered the seared ahi appetizer with a side of kettle chips. We both enjoyed the food and thought the portion sizes were adequate. My tacos were very flavorful but be warned that those pesky shrimp will try to pop out of your flour tortillas. They will be so good, though, that you will become protective of guarding their attempted escapes. My husband enjoyed his ahi very much and had a good size serving of kettle chips. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon 4/8/23 after visiting local downtown winter garden area for the first time since moving here from south Florida. And after coming in i noticed an odd emptiness at the bar with people working it but no greeting or to staff welcoming me in. Reading the bare "seat yourself" sign and decided to sit in the only half cleaned booth the establishment offered. After minutes of waiting a server finally caught my attention. And decided to order i ordered just a cheeseburger with fries and a beer. And honestly the most appealing part was the beer. the fries were shoe string that lacked any body to it or crisp more just like fried shoe strings topped with table salt. And the burger was cooked half decent i asked medium rare( i got more medium whatever) the patty was obviously distributed patties from restaurant depot or another big commercial seller . It's a little hole in the wall hang out spot with an abundance of beers to choose from and pretty good American style food. I absolutely love the BamBam shrimp, and their burgers are also delicious. I'm not a beer or alcohol person, but I have tried their peach Moscato and I love it. It's a great place to go for a hang out with friends or some on one time with your favorite person. Today I went out of my norm here and went with a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon , fresh avocado, spinach and instead of Swiss I added provolone on a multi grain bread WOW this was amazing !!!! I really want to like this place. But I don't. I've tried. I just don't feel like going back, which is a shame because it has a great location and so much potential. Let's start with the good: Beer selection. There's no getting around the fact that they have a great selection. After all, they have a 99 bottles-of-beer club. Atmosphere. It's housed in a gorgeous historic building that used to be the town general store. The preservation of the old-style feel is wonderful. The ceilings and fixtures look original and the tables (I believe) were made from old bowling alley lanes. Unfortunately, the positives end there. The main reason I just can't recommend this place is the staff and/or management... I think? Lack thereof? They seem to close whenever the staff feels like it. I looked on the door at the hours and they only had opening time listed (huge pet peeve of mine). It was around 7:45. There was a fairly good crowd (this was during the NCAA tournament). As I walked in, before I even got 5 steps into the door, one of the servers said they were closing (and not in a friendly way). Another time I called beforehand (not to be fooled again). I asked when they were closing tonight. They replied (again, in a short, curt manner) "now". This was once again between 7:30 and 8. When I did finally get the chance to have dinner there, the staff just seemed aloof and out of it. For how friendly the town of Winter Garden is, it's out of place. I don't like to feel like I am bothering someone when I am patronizing their business. We ate on a weekend night and they had someone playing live music. This is great and all, but it was WAY too loud. so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk in a booth near the back. The food was ok. Nothing special. Seemed like it was all from a freezer. Again, not good or bad, just unmemorable. My recommendation is to get a couple beers in the afternoon. Skip dinner - they may not be open. read more

First off, I love this place! It is a go to when I am not sure where to go. Why? #1, consistent. I get what I want, when I want it, the way I want it, Hot, Fresh, and the right portion. #2, they have local folk singers. Now all that said, do you know what the term Moon Cricket comes from? I first heard the term from a very old lady in Chicago 40 years ago and she was close to 90. A group of us were sitting outside singing folks songs. She called us Moon Crickets, I asked what that means. I was told, "When the slaves came in from the field they would eat dinner, sit outside in the cool and sing hymns". It was an act of community and resistance is what her momma told her. "Cause they couldn't stop us from singing to God", she was told. The slave owners referred to the singers as moon crickets. Well after I slave all day at work, I enjoy a good song!
