Was craving Mediterranean and found this spot by my girlfriends house! Went in and got the Luleh and chi ken kabob as well as the chicken chunks and I was not disappointed! Food was delicious and fresh, made to order! The man who attended me also threw in potato salad and beans at no extra charge! Going to this place ruined my vacation. I was in Los Angeles to visit a friend. We had been craving Iranian food, and we found Moon Mart on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Here is the summary: 1- The place was stinky and dead empty - except for the owners and their friends who had occupied a table, hanging out. Not a good sign for a restaurant. 2- The food was old and too salty to disguise it (we ordered chicken kabab and shish kabab). 3- The manager/owner/waitress was extremely rude and awkward. Along with her friends, she was talking behind our back in Armenian, assuming we didn't know the language (my friend is Armenian...) 4- We threw up the food two hours later. Both of us. My worst experience in an Iranian restaurant. Although I can hardly call it Iranian. I wish I could give it fewer than 1 star. read more

If I could rate this place 6 stars, I would. The owner/manager was so hospitable and polite. He recommended their best item on the menu and it was even cheaper than the ones we were planning on getting! He definitely was looking out for the best interest of his customers. The place is great as well! Very nice and quiet atmosphere with a clean environment. The decor was pleasing to the eyes. It's very rare that an establishment knows what to offer aesthetically. My first time here was a few days ago. Kind of a hole in the wall place on the corner of a shopping mart. We were seated right away and our order was taken by the manager. He came said hello and helped us decide on the plates. We had a few of their appetizers including the beans, ikra, yogurt and salad. Everything tasted great! We had the chicken and beef soltani plates. The rice was soo fresh and fluffy. The quality of the meat was great and the taste was phenomenal. Pretty decent pricing as well. Wonderful service, small intimate setting. Small hole in the wall cafe with a straight to the point menu. Don't overlook the quality of food or care based off the limited selection, ever dish is handcrafted leaving you wanting a bit more to try. This place is soooo good. They have this chicken kabab "sandwich" (it is really a foot long, thin wrap haha) for 6$....great price and a perfect amount for lunch or dinner. I ask them to put a bit of rice and hummus in it (in addition to the onions / tomato that are already in it) and it is amazing! Basically long middle eastern kabab burrito....but unlike burritos, this is so easy to eat (because it is long and thin) , and each bite is consistent with the inside to outside wrap ratio! A really unique "sandwich" (wrap) ....they should play these up more!! Put pictures on the website (yelp at least) and just keep making bunches of these delicious things. Our family has been frequenting Moon Mart for at least 15 years now. When my sister and I stopped by for dinner last year, one of the family members told us that the owner had passed away. We were heartbroken, though it seemed like the place was being managed by his family in much the same way he had ran it. I always remember the times I stopped by with my mom when I was younger. There would be a group of older gentlemen chatting and laughing over their tea. They must have been friends of the owner. We'd come in to pick up our order and he'd give me a Coke on the house. If my mom raved about his eggplant dish he would glow with pride and scoop up spoonfuls for us to take home. He really was a wonderful man. May he rest in peace. Nostalgia aside, these kababs are well prepared and delicious. The food is clean and fresh, and you can always taste that. The kabab koobideh still remains my favorite after all these years, though the shish kabab is just as good, mostly varied in texture. Today my fiancé and I decided to stop off at this small eatery for lunch. We had driven past it numerous times and finally decided to try this little place out. We were the only ones there the entire meal, but 2pm is not exactly rush hour. The waitress was very friendly and even gave us complimentary appetizers! I ordered the beef kabob plate - which was cooked to perfection with fluffy rice and tender juicy meat. My companion had a sandwich that he said was enjoyable. I love eating at this place. If you're looking to eat authentic Persian food and kabobs, you gotta try this place. New owner has completely changed the menu and added some additional items on the menu. If you love abgoosht and ghorme sabzi, you can find it at moon mart. Sanghak bread is also served upon request especially with abgoosht. I eat here at least twice a week and they also do catering for any size of event. Best koobideh (lula/ground beef) kabobs, EVER EVER EVER EVER EVERRRRRRRR. The sandwich, I mean - it's the only thing I've ever gotten there and continue to get. It's so good, I never want it to finish. It's nestled inside of soft lavash bread, and stuffed with thinly sliced onions that have been tossed with chopped parsley (or mint?).. whatever.. it works. I like to ask them to smear a tiny bit of hummus inside, too.. I am salivating like Pavlov's dog right now. The service is very, very good. Don't be surprised by the somber/quiet/strict guy (the skinny one) who makes the kabobs (he usually brings it out to you, too). He's actually very cordial and polite.. and not a lush/fake/try to get customers type of a guy. I used to think he may have been a jerk, but no.. he really is a sweet man who is probably just shy/introvert. The other guy (I think the owner.. a little bit heavier set) is very friendly and upbeat. Super nice! The ambiance is basically your typical hole in the wall..tiny tiny tiny.. but very clean. They probably have more outdoor seating (in front of the place, in the strip mall lol), than they have seating indoors. Parking can be tricky, as that shopping center gets a lot of traffic from the grocery store/meat markets. The prices are CHEAP. The freshly made kabob sandwich is like $4. I haven't been there in about a year (I know, stupid?!), so hopefully the price hasn't increased. Way better than Raffi's place. But if you're looking for a "sit-down/ambiance-y" place, you may not want to come here. They do have waiter service, but I'd recommend it more for lunch (granted, they have a pretty good looking menu of plates, not just sandwiches). read more

I came here after I tried to go to the Philly Cheese Steak joint on Colorado and found it had closed down. I got the lunch special that was pictured as lovely charred chicken with rice (topped with saffron) and a roasted tomato and salad for $8.99. I went with this, even though I wanted a sandwich, but they did not have fries so I went the plate route. The chicken wasn't grilled enough, it was kind of a dull orange color with very few blackened char marks. It was hot temperature wise though. The rice had no saffron on it. Since these were the two main components of the meal I would up eating fairly dry chicken with very dry white rice. The salad was chilled onion slices tossed in parsley and was essentially flavorless. The tomato wasn't really grilled either, no classic blackened skin on it. It was warm, but not really cooked. While there was nothing dangerous or particularly gross about about my food, there wasn't anything really good or appealing about it either. I can't imagine I would come back. P.S., they lovingly took the step of "rounding up" my bill to an even 10 bucks. While this only cost me an additional 10 cents, its unprofessional and kind of insulting. read more

Order the Soltani plate and a side of the pickled veggies, and was very impressed with the quality of the ingredients in everything I ate. Very reasonably priced, and I will definitely be returning. We recently had an large office party for about 55 people and decided to have Moon Mart Kabob do the catering. We were very impressed because they did an amazing job. The food as always was delicious and full of quality and the staff was very professional and knowledgable. They knew every dish and appetizer and what ingredients it included and so on, since our guests love to ask. They played a big role in the success of our event and we are already working with them to plan our Holiday Office Party in mid december. Ok one word.. YUM!!! You must go try this place! My friend was telling me about a new place she had discovered that had really good Armenian bbq, and of course I had to Yelp it to see the reviews.. I ended up trying it over the weekend and omg their kabobs are so delicious my mouth is watering as I think of it haha. The food was fine--though we only got one cube of beef in our gormeh sabzi and we had to remind them to give us the rest of our meal--but definitely not worth the complete absence of real service. Also, they lacked lots of items on the menu. Apparently, these are new owners only 4 days into their ownership (which makes me deeply question the validity of the most recent Yelp reviews). This place has a very Don Corleone mobster hangout turned Mediterranean feel. I'm talking about the workers and their friends not the decor. All the workers are older guys that seemed like working at the Moon Mart is their side business. Didn't expect much but this place served up the best damn shish kebab I ever tasted. The food is fresh and the rice is probably the best most fluffiest tender melt-in-your-mouth buttery basmati rice I've ever had! Meat is tender, juicy and flavorful.
