However, when I went there on a Tuesday with a 2:00 pm appointment, it was jammed and the sour man at the door did not make a good impression. Accordingly, I walked out on that day. That brings me to the Nail Studio of San Carlos. It is located directly next to a Starbucks Coffee House I like to visit. One day as I was leaving Starbucks, I looked up and noticed the nail Studio San Carlos. I had a walk in pedicure and everything was perfect. I have since become a regular at the Nail Studio of San Carlos. My technician is Wendy ("Hang") and she is wonderful. Very efficient, and she does a perfect job on both my manicures and pedicures. In addition, Kevin, at the door on the weekends, offers a very gracious welcome. It felt like the focus was on getting customers in and out as quickly as possible rather than providing the quality service this salon used to be known for. The work was rushed, careless, and not at all what I've come to expect from this salon. I hope management takes this seriously. If the salon is going to increase prices or promote upgraded services, the quality and attention to detail need to match. HOLLY does my mani and is so fast and efficient. Every month, I get compliments about the different designs (I always pick a nude base so the regrowth isn't noticeable). THUY does my pedicure and she is the best at massaging my calves. She also really takes her time to clean up my cuticles and scrub off the calluses I have from walking a ton. After coming to the salon for 10yrs now, I was even able to convince my boyfriend to try a professional pedicure for the first time. He now comes with me for a monthly pedicure with DAISY. Not a good lash experience. Cindy arrived for the appointment late. She rushed in and told me to…read morelay on the table as she removed her sun glasses and placed her cell phone on her lap. I asked if she needed a minute to settle herself and prepare the room and she said no. I then asked her to wash her hands prior to starting (as she would be touching my face and since she just came in and hadn't prepared the room or anything...and I don't know where her hands had been just before she arrived). She gave me attitude but I asked her again, and even said, "or use hand sanitizer." She grudgingly went to the bathroom, turned on the water for 3 secs, loudly grabbed paper towels, balled them up and returned. So, it was clear that hands were not washed. At this point, I'm regretting the decision to have given this place a try despite some of the negative experiences I've read about. But, I decided to make the best and see if it can be a good experience after all. She begins, and does not clean or prep my lashes...AT ALL. She puts tape on my undereye area, sticks some things on my forehead and starts applying the lashes. When I told her that I noticed she didn't put anything on before starting, she told me that she doesn't use anything because they contain alcohol which isn't good. After a few minutes, she takes my hand, puts a fan in it, telling me to hold it there for a bit and that I'm done. I said, what? I look at the clock and it's been 7 minutes. Yes, SEVEN minutes!!! I tell her that I have never had my lashes done in seven minutes. She told me that she's fast and that she's been doing lashes for 15 years. Once I get up and look in the mirror, my lashes on the right side are not straight. She said it was because my natural lashes were curly. I told her I've had my lashes done plenty of times and have never had that issue. I had to ask several times for her to fix it. To her credit, she did finally have me lay back down to correct the visibly crooked placement. But the final product was definitely below standard. I was in and out in under 30 minutes (mind you, we started late). When I got home, I looked in my magnifying makeup mirror. The lashes are sloppily applied and glue chucks are visible and can be seen on my eyelid. I definitely won't be going back.

I was the only client there, yet my service felt extremely rushed. My nail technician used a fan to dry my nails and then had me pay while they were still wet. While paying, one of my nails smeared and had to be redone. She fixed that finger, told me to "be careful" and make sure my nails dried, and then sent me on my way. I walked about five minutes home. By the time I simply entered my house, my thumb and another finger were badly smudged and ruined. I wasn't doing anything strenuous--I literally walked home and opened my front door. I understand that regular polish takes time to dry, but for the price of a professional manicure, I expect the salon to allow enough drying time before having me pay and leave. If a nail had already smeared before I even left the salon, that should have been an indication that they weren't ready. The most frustrating part is that I specifically scheduled this manicure because I have a wedding to attend tomorrow. Instead of having professionally finished nails for the event, I'm now having to fix them myself at home. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Based on my experience and how quickly my manicure was ruined, I would not recommend Serenity Nail and Spa if you need your nails done for an important event.
