I like the broccoli, mushrooms, and chili dusted pineapple toppings with sweet KBBQ sauce. It is a sweet sauce but overall blends well with the chicken and rice and veggies. Soooo impressed with the fresh quality ingredients! I ordered the bbq chicken bowl off of uber eats because there's a BOGO deal going on. I also was intrigued because everything is gluten free! Celiacs rejoice! I customized my bowl to have the kale slaw, chili dusted pineapple, chicken, rice, avocado, and the fried cauliflower. I added on the spicy special sauce and the sweet Korean bbq sauce. The bowl was filling, and every component was fantastic! The chicken was juicy, the rice was soft, pineapple was ripe and sweet, kale slaw was seasoned to perfection. The star of the show was the crispy cauliflower! The food was ok, bowl portions were quite smaller than I would've imagined for $17 but that's pretty common in LA area. The process of picking up after 10pm is also a little confusing. There should be clearer instructions when ordering that you're going to have to the back parking lot to pick up food. If I knew it was going to be like this I would have never ordered from her because it was pretty inconvenient. It's the middle of the night and the front doors are closed. You literally have to come out of the car and read that sign before you understand that you have to go around. Also the online ordering/ login process is wonky, why does it not show pending orders? Why can't I go back to a page to see updates on my order. Also it seems like it's a communal kitchen so there are a bunch more people picking up food from multiple spots, but that is not clear either. Food: 3/5 I got a build your own bowl to try a little bit of everything. The roasted broccoli was okay, nothing special. It tastes like something I could make at home. The corn was very burnt but still delicious. The peppers and onions were mushy and I didn't like them. The kale had a balsamic flavor that didn't mesh well with the other flavors, and it was a little strange to me. The rice was good. I got chicken with Korean BBQ sauce and it was excellent. The cauliflower was my favorite part and it was very flavorful. I'm not sure if I would try this place again because I didn't like half of the ingredients in my bowl. The portions are also smaller than expected. I got maybe 3 pieces of cauliflower which I paid 3 extra dollars for. Go once: Sure Go again: Questionable. I will say that I've been to moonbowls a few times previously, and I will caveat by also saying that their food seems to have gone downhill recently. The bowl I had was fairly tasty, but I remember when I thought the food was actually really good, and far too reasonable for the price. I'm on the other side now where the price seems too high for food that doesn't taste nearly as good. I'm not sure what happened to them. I don't think I was there during a lunchtime rush. I don't think there's been an ownership change, but the meat in the bowl seemed over sauced. The sauce that I was supposed to use was gelatinous and so I didn't end up using it. I don't remember these issues previously, and maybe it was just this one time, but I don't think I could be convinced to try again. read more

Healthy, hearty and creative, there's much to like about Moonbowls. Order online and pick it up - or use the various delivery apps. I've ordered twice now and have tried to get out of my comfort zone. By that, I mean, yes, definitely try the Chicken and Egg (Antibiotic-free roasted chicken with arugula, sweet peppers, basil, a fried egg, green onions, sesame seeds, sweet Korean BBQ sauce...) and served on the base of your choice, which does not include white rice. That's fine, brown rice is healthier, and they also have wild rice, and potato noodles, plus marinated citrus kale. So, there's options. Back to the Chicken and Egg. Good flavors and a nice combination of elements make for a satisfying meal. I also tried the Kimchi Appetizer with choice of protein (went with Chicken). It's a smaller dish than the mains, but still presents a good meal. I liked, and thought the chicken was just-moist enough. Tried the Avocado Bulgogi with Impossible Meat. This was less successful, IMO. Tried the potato noodles, too, for the heck it. This is a dish with some hidden spices, so make sure you know that. The Impossible Meat, well, I found a bit too mooshy. Overall, I'm glad to have been sharing plates so I could try this one, even if I wasn't totally in love. This time, ordered dessert. So many fun looking Chia Puddings. I went the Nutella Chia Pudding, which is highly recommended. Tastes like a healthier chocolate pudding, and is easy to share. When you pick up, in West LA, it's at Colony, which houses many places. While not a perfect situation from a customer standpoint, I'm happy that places like Moonbowls are available and making some tasty, reasonably priced and generally healthy food. read more

You go to the counter and order on a screen, selecting the particular place you want to order from. There are also cashiers there but everything is done on the screen. They have a small amount of indoor seating, where people mostly wait to pick up their food. There is also more seating in an outdoor area in a back courtyard. While we were there, they played lounge music. A lot of people were waiting for their food, and as such, it was a long wait for our food. The food that we got at Moonbowls was not bad, but it was nothing amazing. My husband's bowl had beef and kimchi, and I liked his more than mine, which was a vegetarian one, with fried pieces of cauliflower. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because the actual facility it's in (The Colony) doesn't seem like they're taking COVID precautions (tons of people jammed inside to pick up and order food, as well as tons of people without masks sitting outside). This is obviously not something Moon Bowls can control and to get around this+ stay safe, order via a third party app as that pick up window is in the back and outside! The food itself is delicious and the portions are quite generous. I typically will order a bowl and combine a few ingredients to make my own. Their toppings (citrus marinated kale, corn, green onions, etc) are all very fresh and their meat options are also good. Their chicken is never dry and I love their impossible beef! The sauces were tasty, the toppings ample, and each beautiful looking bowl was punctuated a distinct flavor profile. Just excellent! We tried 3 different bowls - Avocado bulgogi, sweet chicken kimchi, and Meat Lover. Meat lover is my favorite, filled with chicken, beef, and arugula and the flavoring is both sweet & savory. Every bite made me want to take another. The key here is balance: if you have fresh lettuce at home, add it with the meat lover to make your own lettuce wraps. Amazing. During covid, they are running various promotions like BOGO or free bowls, so the deals are too good to pass up. Definitely recommend! Personally, I was a bigger fan of the meat lovers bowl because it filled me up more and I was starving before the meal, but the cauliflower was solid and made me feel good about eating something healthier...for a change. I tried the cauliflower and this was my favorite item on the menu! The ranch dressing was the perfect dipping sauce. Bowls were good and are interchangeable with any toppings and base you would want. The impossible potstickers were good but because they are gluten free they do fall apart pretty quickly and stick to each other. The four stars is only for the fact that I ordered my food and then I got an estimated ready time as 30 minutes. I arrived after 35 minutes BUT my food was not ready until 1 hour after ordering on their website. I wouldn't have minded if they told me the wait time was 1 hour and I arrive to get my food right away. But I ended up having to spend $5 on just metered parking since there is no free parking or loading zones. I think as long as they just figure out a better way to communicate food timing then I will be returning soon. read more

While browsing Uber Eats, I came across moonbowls, which I did not realize was relatively nearby. After seeing the scrumptious looking menu and seeing healthy options, I decided to give it a try and ordered two custom bowls--one for my fiancé and one for me. Boy were we satisfied with our moonbowls! It had a lot of veggies we were craving and there was so much food that we actually had substantial amount of chicken (the good stuff) leftover. And we usually finish all of our food even when others say there's enough to have leftovers. Now I'm looking forward to eating the leftover chicken tomorrow. It's a bowl that keeps on giving. The delivery came with two thank you notes--one was specifically addressing what safety measures the restaurant is taking around prevention of COVID-19, which was a bonus as it gave me a piece of mind that they really care. This was pretty terrible. Ordered the Korean Hot Chicken Bowl on wild rice with extra roasted chicken via UberEats. The description of this read "Hot and sweet crispy chicken" which was definitely not the case. What I got instead were large chunks of chicken that were breaded in some kind of mixture that was not crispy at all. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say the soggyness was because of the delay because of the delivery, but I highly doubt this coating was ever crispy to begin with. It was VERY pasty and did not have a hint of crunchiness at all. The roasted chicken I added on were basically little cubes of dry chicken breast coated in the same sauce, which was very one note and tasted like a mix of gochujang, sugar, and sesame oil that I could have made myself.
