Overall a great study spot, with really nice vibe and decor. The food are decent and not bad. The matcha though is my main focus. I like to go to different coffee shops and check out their matcha since I make my own at home. There are three moongoats, one in Garden Grove, one in Costa Mesa (here), and in Irvine (near UCI). I would have to say the matcha quality has been going down lately in the Costa Mesa and Irvine moongoats. The color is not a bright green but a dull yellow green. I need to go back and try the one in Garden Grove. The matcha from there was really good last time I went which was at least 5-6 months ago. They do not have oat milk here but they have koji rice oat milk (which I believe is fermented rice). The fermented rice oat milk severely affects the taste of matcha and makes it not enjoyable at all for non whole milk drinkers. The color and quality of matcha is not that great as well. The term ceremonial grade is tossed around a lot and if you're looking for Community Goods' type of matcha you won't find it here. The closest would be In-Sit which serves Rocky's matcha, known to be flavorful and nutty. The matcha here is flat and does not have any flavor beyond the sweetener it use. I have typically always LOVED MoonGoat. Coffee is good, but I wish they had more specialty drinks to try. Here's my issue though - the wifi is TERRIBLE. Want to go and chat with friends? They recently changed their wifi where as before you had to get a new password every 2 hours. Now it's the same password anyone can join and my laptop and phone both never get any internet with the new system. Nothing loads, it disconnects me every 3 minutes, it's a nightmare. If you are a student or remote worker (which is like 90% of their clientele) find a new spot if you need the wifi. Super bummed over this change :/ read more

I love moongoat. My mom has been raving about this place for a while now and I was getting my car tinted next door so I stopped by and boy it did not disappoint. Smoked salmon breakfast bagel: 10/10 I added avocado mash on the side and added it to my bagel and it was sooo good. Buttermilk biscuit & egg sandwich: 8.5/10 My boyfriend really enjoyed this sandwich, but he said for the price he expected it to be a bit bigger, but he enjoyed it nonetheless. Strawberry brûlée matcha: 9/10 This was a very milk forward drink, but not overtly sweet. The strawberry was also very light and the matcha was very smooth. Got a hot hulk juice. For $7 I expected the size to be a lot bigger? Clearly the iced one is in a bigger cup but they gave me this hot one in such a small cup. It's so not worth the price. In terms of taste, the matcha isn't too strong nor is it too sweet but at the end of the day it wasn't anything too special? I could have gone elsewhere and paid less for this size. Deluxe breakfast biscuit- this was decent but too pricey for the size. The biscuit is dry. There is an overcooked egg and a measly piece of arugula in it. The cheese is so minimal I couldn't even taste it. The bacon was super crispy and not greasy. Honestly it was the best out of everything. I also enjoyed the jam but wish they gave more. read more

MoonGoat would no-doubt be rated 5 stars intergalacticly. This coffee shop is located in a warehouse with two large bars for service. I'd classify this cafe as having a 'hipster' vibe - largely due to the painted goat in an astronaut suit. It's one of the few cafes in the Costa Mesa/Huntington Beach area that is designed to get work done. There's plenty of seating, tables, electrical outlets and a solid wifi connection. They even have a large outdoor patio filled with additional seating and dog friendly patrons. MoonGoat specializes in caffeine, pastries and a pretty tasty food menu. I ended up ordering the iced chai masala with oat milk and the eggplant focaccia sandwich. The chai masala was filled with unique spices that will most definitely have me coming back for more. I also love that they don't charge extra for almond and oat milk.. other coffee shops should take note. I've never had an eggplant sandwich before, but this is something that I want to add to my everyday diet. Their focaccia bread is made fresh in-house and the eggplant was juicy and flavorful. The perfect meatless substitute! My only complaint was the level of spice. It wasn't advertised as spicy, but I definitely felt the intense burn. We shared the salmon and cream cheese bagel. That part was good. The cold brew with milk (Budget Bru) was absolutely awful. It tasted like stale old coffee with too much milk. Paid extra for vanilla and there was no vanilla in it at all. We left it at the table. Place is kinda dark with lots of space. When stepping inside, there is a wide open space near the front and a lot of seating towards the back! I came around 12 on a Friday afternoon and was able to find a seat! There is also plentiful outside seating fyi ~ As for the coffee - SUPERB. I got a latte with lavender cold foam, which was a new experience for me. It was so delicious, and the cold foam had a hint of sweetness which balanced the acidity of the latte well. The barista was also super friendly and helped me decide which drink to get as it was my first time. As for the parking, there is FREE valet parking, which I was shook by, because that's so rare. I just stopped by and had a disappointing experience. I ordered a yuzu pastry and two coffees. After only two bites of the pastry, I discovered mold on the bottom. I immediately informed the staff, but the response was far from satisfactory. The worker seemed indifferent and offered excuses like, "I don't think you ate it" and "I don't know why it's moldy it was made yesterday." While they did refund the cost of the yuzu pastry, the lack of empathy and concern was evident. The incident left me feeling unsettled and undervalued as a customer. Unfortunately, yelp does not let you respond back to business owners publicly so I will respond to Joshua in my edited review. Joshua, Per your response, what you could have offered on top of the refund is, "the additional offer to comp another food or drink of your choice to improve your day." You did not offer any other options than to refund the moldy pastry. It would have been nice to be offered a comp coffee (AT LEAST) for eating a moldy pastry. read more

Moongoat has my heart. I don't say that lightly because I have high expectations being that I am willing to spend more for quality ingredients, skillset, customer service, taste, and presentation. Moongoat does everything right. The quality, taste, customer service, and craftsmanship in creating their drinks is all there. I truly and genuinely admire the owner's vision to produce a really great drink or food item and not at the expense of quality. At Moongoat, I never feel bogged down or bloated with the crappy and processed syrups that other cafes use. I'm a huge fan of their Hulk Juice. This alone has kept me coming back. It's always fairly consistent which I do like. They use coffee bean fruit syrup aka "cascara syrup" and it is divine in taste and just the sheer thought of the process makes me happy and excited to order it. The workers are always nice, helpful, yet efficient* which is amazing considering the customer service/food service industry is not easy. One of the hardest in my opinion. I have no complaints. Ah MoonGoat! This coffee spot has so much potential for being the best work/ study spot. When you arrive, you have to valet. Like most Orange County places, parking is limited and they are trying to make the best of the situation. The valet is free, however like most people believe, valeting your car is not the best. I do appreciate that they have reserved "10 minute" parking spots out front for people who are just running in to get a coffee so they don't have to deal with the hassle of valet. When you go inside, you will be very lucky if there is not a line. The baristas are pretty quick about hurrying people through so you are not in line forever. They do have menus right as you walk in so you can get to the cashier and order immediately. If you are really in a rush, they also have the QR code to order online so you don't have to stand in line and wait. They have usually 3-4 baristas making the drinks, so the wait time for coffee is faster than most busy coffee shops. The coffee itself is alright. Some of the coffee items are amazing and some are subpar. The churro latte is my favorite. Their avocado toast has me obsessed!! It is so tasty and actually pretty big! It will fill you up! Usually if I'm hungry, I'll grab a decaf tea and an avocado toast. The ambiance of MoonGoat is spot on! They have chill oldies softly playing in the background, murals of space goats on the wall, plants hanging, a shaded patio area, and huge windows. It is a study spot dream!! Seating is where MoonGoat loses me. Finding a spot to sit at MoonGoat compares to a Lord of the Flies situation. The space itself is quite large and the decor provides a relaxed ambiance. However, a majority of its clientele is working on their laptops. Half of the space has a few smaller tables, and one long table for people to work. On the other side, there is an area with couches. I'm not sure about everyone else, but working on a couch on your laptop does not work. For how busy MoonGoat typically is, it's a shame they don't provide more table seating for everyone working. Due to the excellent ambiance MoonGoat provides, it gets very busy and there simply isn't enough space. I would also argue that MoonGoat is not work/ study friendly. They limit your wifi time to only two hours. I am a routine person, and my coffee shop work time is three hours, so it really frustrates me. To get more wifi time, you have to purchase more items. I understand they are trying to find a solution to their lack of seating, but limiting wifi is not it. Overall, I only go to MoonGoat if it is very early in the morning so that finding a seat isn't impossible. MoonGoat is so close to being a phenomenal work spot, but ultimately falls short. read more

Came here on a whim with a friend and our two dogs in the morning since we saw it was pet friendly - pets only allowed in back patio and must be on leash. You do have to walk through the cafe to get to the patio but it wasn't bad to maneuver through the tables and people. First off, the parking is weird. They have two "lots" - one valet and one self park. Not sure how much the valet cost, but the self park is shared with the business next door and there are single spots and also tandem spots so be aware in case you might get stuck. They also have designated pickup only spots up front, 10 minutes max. Second, this place can get busy with a lot of people coming to work or study (individual or groups), but it still was pretty quiet regardless. The patio is covered and can be a bit noisier. We each ordered a churro latte and one overnight oats to share and the drinks came out quick despite them being so busy. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu read more

Ambiance is chill and music/volume inside isn't too loud but good for conversations and meetings. Parking is pretty limited but valet is free! I got a limited edition drink - the NOLA which is a maple flavored latte with an Earl Grey cream too which was good! Not too sweet or strong. Their matcha looked really good too so I'll have to grab that next time. Wifi password is given to you when you make a purchase and is limited to 2 hours so make sure to consider that when you come. MoonGoat is definitely one of my fave coffee shops in OC. They are located on the border of Costa Mesa/Newport Beach The vibe is very hipster. Open air with high ceilings and artwork and design throughout the shop. Parking is very limited. I always have to drive through the lot a few times to find a spot. They offer a variety of caffeinated drinks including lattes, cold brews, espressos and cappuccinos. MoonGoat also offers rotating fresh flavors of kombucha and an assortment of teas and tonic drinks. In addition to drinks, they have a pretty diverse food menu featuring items such as avocado toast, bagels, pastries, buttermilk biscuits, egg sandwiches, soups and salads. It is a bit pricey here, so just be prepared to pay more than what you would at a Starbucks. I ordered the Churro Latte with almond milk (half sweet). The barista informed me their lattes are pretty sweet so I always say "half sweet." It was really good (you can even taste hints of churro that is mixed nicely with the coffee) and definitely gave me the energy I needed to keep working. Speaking of work, MoonGoat is a great place to get work done. They offer 2-hour wifi coupons (you don't get very good cellular service here so the WiFi does come in handy). There are plenty of tables and countertops (both inside and outside) but it does get crowded and can be a bit noisy. I assume if you want to work all day, you'd have to purchase something new to get another wifi code. I'm not a fan of this but I do understand why they do this. The staff and baristas are professional, welcoming and knowledgeable. If you're looking for your go-to coffee shop, I highly recommend MoonGoat. read more

This was my first time here and I really enjoyed my time! The barista was really patient with me when I explained it was my first time and I asked for some recommendations. Food and drink: I ordered the matcha spritzer because it was the barista's fav drink so i had to try it. I finished the whole thing it was so good. It tastes like a matcha soda WHICH SOUNDS CRAZY but it was nicely sweetened with the cascara syrup I was also hungry and got the ham and Swiss sandwich which comes with a bag of chips. It was definitely satisfying and hit the spot but it was a bit pricey for what it was. Ambiance: I stayed there for two hours to study/get some work done. The internet was fast and reliable but it does only last two hours. You can probably ask the register for another code but i decided to leave after. Parking was a little confusing when I first got there because there are a bunch of signs that say "free valet parking" I asked the worker there and he said it was for the cafe! MoonGoat has a SUPER CUTE interior...definitely a great place to get some work done. They also have unique drinks and pastries--I ordered an iced churro latte and an earl grey blueberry pop tart.
