Banana matcha 3/5: I got it with almond milk and the banana was more so mixed in versus cold foam. Flavor was good and seems like a strong matcha but I prefer a thicker consistency. Very very interesting place. My husband and I were invited by one of our kids for an after lunch coffee and the place is packed with young adults! As in packed and chattering..you have to speak loudly to hear each other. :) Nothing very spectacular with the place but it's obviously popular for a reason. The ambiance is very minimalist --blank walls, a few round cracked-on-the-side tables, one lone tree decor in the middle of the room, a lounge chair...one needs a creative eye to appreciate the entire thing :) Lots of young people lining up to make and claim their order...I later learned that this place is heavily - and obviously effectively marketed on social media. The Banana Cream Latte and Banana Cream Matcha are so delicious. It's the number one item the baristas recommend and it's truly worth it. The banana flavor comes through so nicely and the coffee itself is not too sweet so the drink is nicely balanced. I'm not a matcha fan myself, but I really liked the matcha version of this drink (slightly better than the coffee actually!) because the matcha is so smooth. My sister got the Earl Grey Matcha and it was also very tasty and smooth. The service is excellent. It gets busy with students, but you'll get your drink pretty quickly. Seating can be limited, especially for groups. We came during the week around 3pm and the seating was a bit full, but we managed to get a table for us three. Also, not sure if they have a small selection of pastries in general but we didn't see many when we came in. It's possible they sell out quick! read more

New favorite cafe in OC! Tbh that says a lot in OC because one thing we have no shortage of here are aesthetic cafes with craft coffee and good vibes. But, Brew Story stands out for a few reasons: 1. Parking is easy and free in this strip mall. For me, this is a huge perk. 2. The variety is incredible, they have everything from a cookie butter latte to strawberry shortcake matcha and black sesame soft top. There's just so many options here that even if I always want to get the black sesame soft top matcha (which I do) there's always something new to try. 3. Lots of seating! Why do some places have like 1-2 tables? I want to sit and relax or do work and stay a while (and btw will order another drink while I do so)! There's a long table here for big groups, a few smaller ones, a more loungey area and a counter with bar stools. The one thing you might not love about this spot if you're used to a quick mobile order and pick up with no wait coffee situation is that it is a bit of a wait. TBH you can't go wrong with ordering any of their drinks. We've visited a few times, mostly when we were in the area. It would be great if this was closer to us because I would come here even more often (haha). I've tried their banana cream matcha latte, black sesame matcha latte (it might not be on their menu but you can ask for black sesame cream for topping). Both drinks were really good! Since my first time at Brew Story, I've tried a couple more drinks so I wanted to write an update It was pretty loud the most recent time I went so I would def recommend noise-cancelling headphones if you wanna get any sort of work done. First review of 2026! It's time to finally share my favorite matcha spot in all of OC (atm). While the first few visits were for their coffee drinks, it wasn't until they brought in the MAMA Latte that we started getting addicted. The drink is quite pricey, but it's one of the best matcha drinks I've personally had. It packs a punch of flavor, but is also smooth and creamy at the same time. My wife has also started trying their other variations such as the Cookie Butter Matcha and Creme Brulee Matcha (she enjoys the former one a lot). I've been to Brew Story a few times now and it never disappoints. Their matcha quality is just amazing and all of the combinations that they have are so good! I get the MAMA Matcha but it's lowkey just so overpriced. That's the only complaint I have because there is no way that matcha is worth $10+ with tax and tip! So this time I went with the cookie butter matcha which was slightly cheaper and was creamy and sweet! I tasted both the cookie butter flavor and the matcha flavor, and none overpowered the other. It's usually always crowded when I go but the workers are really fast and working hard! I've studied here maybe once or twice but it's honestly not the best setting because it's super loud and almost always packed. I tried this place twice and each time, I was sadly disappointed. The first time I came here, I ordered the corn coffee. I was soooo excited because I love the taste of corn milk with coffee and it's not often sold at coffee shops. Based on taste, it's average, not the best but not the worst when it comes to balancing the sweet subtle flavor or corn and the intense bitterness that comes from coffee. I was actually quite surprised how much better the taste was than expected. It does lean a little bitter if you are one who likes your beverages very sweet. The reason why I was disappointed was because they didn't strain the corn so it was very grainy. It does not feel elevated when there are little bits that add nothing but an unflattering texture. Sorry Brew Story, I couldn't get over it. The second time I went, I tried a simple matcha latte iced. Sadly the matcha did not taste good. Thankfully it wasn't the super sweet almost cheap flavor i don't like, but i couldn't really appreciate the matcha flavor at all. Maybe I had bad luck on the days i went? A story of the brew. Will this story have a happy ending? Barely visible from the street, tucked in an unassuming center... easy to miss unless you're looking. But, brew it right, they will come. I became intrigued not because they roast their own beans or because of the variety of drink options, but because I read they had a TIRAMISU drink, which I just happened to be craving at the time. I know, I know. Another dessert drink. Trust me, it's strictly medicinal. Let's just say the drink was very good. By then, I was hooked and curious about the rest of the drinks. After a few visits and working my way through the menu, I stumbled onto the BLACK SESAME. Immediately loved it. The only problem? It was always sold out. And then one day, it was just gone. Bummer. Honestly, top sellers should probably stick around, seasonal or not. Here's a list of some of the drinks I've enjoyed so far, along with a few my friends have too. The drinks weren't the only reason I kept coming back. I tried the food too. I've had all the SANDOS. All were excellent, but the ROAST BEEF was perfect. Incredibly tender. This place is always packed, at least every time I've been. Because of that, pastries go fast, like gone, and not coming back until the next day. They close at seven, but most days they're nearly out by one or two in the afternoon. That's been consistent every visit. Another bummer. Service has always been friendly and professional, though some drink stations can get congested during rushes. Maybe time to rethink the line. I frequented Brew Story before social media made the wait and crowding a little unbearable. So, I now opt for online ordering which is more time-effiient. It can be a a nice place to study if you have headphones. They have group tables and bar style seating. Brew Story's matcha never disappoints. Nice balance of umami and astringency. Their banana cream matcha is amazing, because the cream top uses fresh banana instead of artificial banana flavoring. Their MaMa latte is a double matcha, which I get when I need to feel extra caffeinated. For an additional fee, you can upsize; it's pretty large and concentrated, so it lasted me two days. read more

The space has a cool, laid-back vibe, modern, cozy, and very "local coffee shop" energy. That said, when we arrived around 9:30am, they were pretty much out of most breakfast items. Tried Brew Story for the first time! It's located in a small plaza with other shops, parking can get full and limited. The inside was simple and clean with organic furniture and aesthetic. I came on a Saturday around noon so it was pretty busy with a long line to order and then a separate line to pick up your drink, since seating was full. I didn't mind waiting, but if you have somewhere to be just be mindful. I got the banana matcha and it was delicious! You can taste fresh banana and I like the hazelnuts on top. I come to BrewStory quite frequently as it's down the street from where I work. Their drinks and food are pretty good and the place has potential to be a nice coffee shop to work/chill at. However, I have noticed lately that the ambiance is disrupted by the workers. I'm not sure if I have the wrong idea of what type of vibe this shop is trying to give out but the workers act like they are constantly on break and not working. There were at least 6 workers and only one was actively working, the rest were leaning on the counters just chatting and drinking their matchas instead of helping out. He took my order and then stepped away to make a drink halfway through so I guess that was more important? When I left there were 6 more people in line. They probably waited a minute for their order to be taken. It kind of feels like you're interrupting their personal conversation time when you need to ask them any simple question regarding actual drinks or work related things. Maybe the employees need to be retrained on how to distinguish what work time is vs break time so customers don't feel uncomfortable. read more

The shop is in its own small plaza so parking is very accessible, the store itself is decently sized with places to sit. Service was friendly and they had a wide variety of pastries on display too! I got the Banana Matcha with oat milk. I noticed that they whisked the matcha for every single drink, which I was very impressed by! I feel like places rarely take the time to make every drink individually like that. The matcha was smooth, nutty, and a bit bitter (in a good way). The banana cream topped with toffee nut was such a good addition to the drink! It made it the perfect sweetness when all mixed together, and it tastes like real banana (very banana pudding vibes if you're into that). I also got their Ham and Cheese Croissant, the pastry was delicious and the filling was very satisfying. They warm it up for you so it's served hot. Unfortunately this brew story doesn't have a perfect ending. Let's start with the area. It's located in a strip mall with a large parking lot unfortunately that parking lot can get quite full so be prepared to wait to park on a busy day. For matcha we went with the coconut cloud and the mama matcha. Now, the matcha is great. We ordered less sugar and it was still plenty sweet. The problem isn't so much the product, but the wait. We ordered our drinks fairly quickly as there was no line at the register, but it took 30 minutes to get our drinks. The space inside is packed mainly because the turn around time is so slow people start to bunch together. It's fairly loud and not an ideal place to sit or study/work. The matcha is great but definitely not worth the wait time as there are other matcha places that are excellent without this inconvenience. That being said, you can order online for pick up, which makes this experience much better. I highly recommend doing that. Otherwise, the staff is very nice! read more

I do have to mention that while I was putting the lid on my drink, I spilled ALL of my drink on the counter and one of the baristas came to clean it. She was super nice about it and she offered to remake my drink which was very sweet. The service was super nice and friendly. If I could leave less than 1 star I would. The first time I went to Brew Story I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Said the wait times and crowds were because it had just opened. However, I've been back since and each time I'm left with an unsatisfying experience. I went in today around 12 and noticed immediately a long line, both to order and to pick up drinks. We order 2 drinks (chai tea latte and cookie something) and waited over 30 minutes. I watched multiple people who had ordered their drink/food after me receive their order yet when I went up to ask about mine I was told to just wait. They were too busy. After 30 minutes I finally received my 2 measly drinks. An iced coffee that tasted like nothing but foam, and a chai tea latte that tasted like chai concentrate watered down by ice. For how long we waited for our drinks I excepted them to be at least half decent. Word to the wise is you plan on visiting Brew Story make sure you have nothing else planned for the day and lower your standards. read more

I think I've actually found my favorite banana matcha. Brew Story's Banana Cream Matcha Latte is everything I look for whenever I order one of these drinks -- the matcha is rich and green with a slight, pleasant bitterness; the banana cream is creamy and substantial, made with actual banana. The banana they used was perfect -- so naturally sweet, which complemented the slight bitterness of the matcha well. Even the consistency of the banana cream was noteworthy -- it was blended, but not into a completely uniform consistency; there were small chunks but none so big that they blocked the straw. It was an actual joy to drink, and no other cafe has ever hit the nail so perfectly on the head before. I can see why there were so many people waiting in line -- I'd be one of these people weekly if I lived closer. There were other intriguing drinks on the menu as well (Salted Caramel Cream Latte and Tiramisu Americano Latte come to mind), but I'll have to come back to try those next time! read more

We ordered the salted caramel cream top latte, the Yoda, the fine robusta iced coffee, and a chocolate croissant. The line itself took about 10-15 minutes with four parties ahead of us, but the real shocker was the drink wait time--20-25 minutes for three iced coffees with premade toppings they just spoon on top. What really caused the delay was the pace of the baristas. They weren't moving with any sense of urgency despite the long line and crowded pickup area.
