Just had dinner at Moonstone again tonight. We've been coming here regularly, almost every week, and it's always a pleasure. The restaurant has crisp white tablecloths, and the bathroom is always spotless and well maintained. It's a comfortable and inviting place to enjoy a nice dinner. The entire staff has always been attentive, courteous, and welcoming. Tonight, we had Johnny, Alex, and Miki, who worked very well together. Everything flowed seamlessly, and they made us feel truly valued and well taken care of. The food is consistently good, as are the drinks. Tonight, we shared a House Mule, which was refreshing, delicious, and a great way to start our meal. For dinner, I had the Crunchy Seafood Fried Rice without XO sauce and the Buddha's Claypot, a vegetable dish. Hubby had the General Tso Chicken. All three dishes were flavorful, satisfying, and well prepared. I even had some of the fried rice left over to take home for tomorrow! Once again, we left happy. My wife and I got the chance to check out Moonstone Modern Asian and Bar. And I have to say it e did not disappoint. We started with the Egg Drop Wonton Soup which was delicious. For dinner we enjoyed some fried rice, General Tao Chicken, and a Rocky Road Sushi roll. The portions were quite generous and the prices were fair. I found this business looking for a place to take my husband for his birthday. The decor is really nice, the bar is on the right when you walk in, the tables are centered in the middle and a little close together. The tables for larger parties are on the outside. We ordered the soup for two which was really good with shrimp, chicken and various other stuff in a tasty broth. Appetizers: Shrimp toast which I didn't care for, no taste of shrimp anywhere Salt n pepper Calamari was good and not chewy Entree: Shrimp n Lobster Sauce was really good and taste fresh Pork Tenderloin, it was fried and had a good flavored sauce but, the pork was so thin , you didn't taste pork. Delicious! Been coming here for years. Valentines, Mother's Day, celebrations, birthdays, fun night out, whatever it is Moonstone has been perfect for it. General Tso is the go-to for sure. I've never had a bad dish here. You can't go wrong with any appetizer or entree really. Love the ambiance and service is always great. read more

1/11/25. Generally, I am leery of Asian fusion places but I have to say I was quite happy here! The inside is very modern with a large bar. Irma was a friendly attentive bartender. However, it should be noted that every drink is EXACTLY measured so the drinks are very weak, imo. The sushi (clam, fluke, tuna and scallop) ordered was extremely fresh. The branzino (with ginger and scallion sauce) and crunchy seafood fried rice were very tasty. Not oily at all! Ended with really good pistachio ice cream. Moonstone had a solid lunch menu! For the price, you definitely get a quality meal with attentive service. Since parking can be difficult around the area, it was nice that there were plenty of spots in their parking lot. I started off with a spicy tuna roll and the seafood tasted fresh. For my entree, I got the Moonstone Three Treasures and was impressed with the portion size. It came with a lot of meat and vegetables. The sauce was just a bit too heavy/salty for me but overall it is a good place for a more upscale meal. I would totally return to try their dinner menu! read more

Good but was way too expensive for Cantonese food. Their drinks and sushi way overpriced too. Rather spend the money on a fab Greek, Italian restaurant or steakhouse. My favorite is a Chinese takeout spot in Fresh Meadows. The ribs are not $25 like at Moonstone. They also don't clear their lot well when it snows, always icy and unsalted. We prefer Orient Garden on Herricks Rd. Sushi at Aiko in Port Wash is fab. read more

We had dinner with my parents at this upscale modern Chinese restaurant that used to be East Buffet. The ambiance was a much elevated version of what the buffet set looked like. Prices were pretty high. However, it was worth it. We ordered a bunch of dishes. My husband ordered the four course meal, which was $65, only served Monday thru Thursday. The prix fixe menu had stipulations where sharing was not allowed, but that was impossible because portions were huge except for the key lime pie. My husband enjoyed the wonton soup, scallion pancakes, salmon teriyaki, and key lime pie. The sauce of the salmon teriyaki was great. Salmon teriyaki, key lime pie, and scallion pancake are highly recommended. My dad and I shared the half Peking duck. This dish was served tableside as my dad calls it Hong Kong style from the crepe to the duck preparation and presentation. My mom ordered the salmon with mushroom sauce, which was standard. I also ordered the shrimp and walnut, and omg, the shrimp was HUGE. This dish is worth ordering, too. I'll definitely be back to explore the 4-course prix fixe menu. read more

Chinese restaurants around NYC/surrounding suburbs are everywhere, but it's hard to find ones that are of a high caliber. So when you do, it's a joyous occasion. Enter Moonstone, a newer Chinese restaurant (opened within the last 2-3 years). Technically in Queens, it sits on northern boulevard just on the border of great neck. Over the last year, we ordered take out 8-10 times. There was not a single time where the experience wasn't great. From top to bottom, it's high quality Chinese food that rivals any high end Chinese spot (Mr Chows, Shun Lee, Hunan Taste etc). Whatever appetizer you want, from their egg rolls to soups to ribs, they're top notch. Their mains are all excellent and the ingredients are noticeably better than a typical Chinese place (i.e. their beef is actually beef, their chicken resembles real white meat chicken, their shrimp seems fresh and juicier than the norm, etc). If you're ordering take out, you're in for an additional treat in that their to-go operation is as good as it gets. Walk in and you will see a table of 10+ to-go bags, neatly packaged and organized with an attentive team servicing to go patrons. Many may not care about this detail, but attention to the little things matters, and opening a to-go order that is thoughtfully packaged and always perfect, says a lot about a restaurants commitment to excellence. Last night we ate there for the first time, which prompted this review. The restaurant itself is upscale, clean and offers good vibes. In short -- not what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. They've actually focused on ambiance and created a really nice environment to dine. The service is great too -- really kind and attentive staff. Overall, there really is not a single thing I'd change about this place. How did I previously give Moonstone only 4 stars and not 5? It is truly fine dining...at its finest. Tonight, for a belated birthday celebration for my dad, we ordered some of our usual (pan fried noodles and yang chow fried rice), and we also tried some dishes for the first time: crispy lemon chicken and tangerine scallops. Boy, am I glad we decided to deviate a bit from our norm, because both of these dishes were distinctly, lightly citrusy...and delicious! We've been missing out! The sauce for the crispy lemon chicken complemented the chicken very nicely: it was not tart or sour but rather light and pleasant in its citrus flavor. Really, these two dishes just married fruity and meaty so perfectly! As I recall from previous visits, the servers were very courteous and attentive. Decor and setup of the restaurant is very classy, and the restaurant is also nice and clean. The menu is extensive, with unique dishes categorized - and it's actually a shame that we hadn't ventured off to try new dishes until tonight! Oh how the (semi) mighty have fallen. We paid our annual visit to Moonstone and it will be our last. The food was so so at best, but the true disappointment was the service. In a word, abysmal. We came for lunch and there was literally no one in the restaurant so they can't use the excuse that they were "busy." More like busy doing nothing. Since our party was on the small side, we asked how many people does each dish serve. The waiter shrugged and said "it depends on how hungry you are." We could not get a straight answer. After receiving our order, I can tell you each plate will serve between 2-2.5 people. This is not rocket science and a server should have an answer to this very basic question. They rushed us through the meal. We ordered a second serving of soup dumplings (which are tasty) and they proceed to take away all our silverware. When I reminded them we had more (of the same) food coming, they said, we will give you new utensils because the kitchen will get confused. Huh? Also, they cleared our plates while my mother was still eating. Literally, she was still eating and they took away her plate. Unacceptable. We won't be coming back. read more

We drove past this place a week ago. My friends and I decided to expand our restaurant catalog. When Saturday night came around we knew just where to go. We pulled up to a full parking lot which was encouraging yet worrysome that there would be a long wait. We were expeditiously seated and greated by the friendliest staff. Have been here a few times now and have to say the food is just delicious! The perfect neighbourhood spot with classic and modern Chinese/Japanese eats! I came in for a taste test while I was looking for venues for my sons first birthday and was just blown away by how beautiful the restaurant is. The dishes I've tried so far are the crispy eggplant, hot and sour soup, dim sum platter, crispy prawn balls, avocado sushi, chicken clay pot, prawn Szechuan, Thai chicken curry, and the cheesecake. I don't think I've had a thing I haven't liked!!! The crispy eggplant was sweet, spicy, and perfectly textured, especially with the crispy peanuts thrown in! The prawn balls, so juicy and flavourful, and so so filling! They were just massive! The dim sum platter was ok, I've had better but all in all a small variety of dimsum options that will do the trick if you're in a pinch. The chicken clay pot was so so innovative, LOVED this dish the most, the flavours were so interesting, a classic Chinese dish, with a basil twist! The Thai chicken curry and prawn Szechuan I had during my most recent trip and they were absolute perfection - the only thing that made the meal even more epic was the INCREDIBLE cheesecake - which they said was made in house! I don't know why this was my first ever time eating their food when I only live 15 min away and one of my best friend's son requests this place more than any other in the area as it is his go to fave too...this is one of the few good things to come out quarantine life! Sadly with all this 'rona stuff happening, most of my fave Chinese food spots are closed till further notice so I was really happy, as well as my kids, to see that Moonstone was opened for curbside, take out and delivery till 9pm! I called once I got into their parking lot and someone ran it out to me, masked and gloved, who also greeted me warmly by name, placed it in my car and I was on my way back as fast as I arrived! Everything was packaged beautifully with enough extra sauce and fortune cookies and almond cookies to go around twice! Loved their beef with stringbeans:the beef were huge pieces too! Their sesame chicken which I usually find as a throw away dish lol, was crunchy with a delicious sauce that I could not get enough of and usually I only have one piece. Their prawns in spicy garlic sauce is actually very spicy and well prepared without crazy amounts of filler veggies in it. Their moonstone lomein again was delicious with a abundant amount of beef in it too. I loved that they offered an unique sauteed mixed veggies optioned asparagus and bamboo shoots in a light sauce. Prices were much higher than I usually pay for Chinese take out however I cannot wait to get back here and actually eat IN the restaurant once all this is behind us!
