I dined here on Tuesday 9/25/19. On Yelp, it stated the restaurant closes at 2:30pm, then re-opens for dinner. I walked in at 1:20pm, and saw the door said they close at 2pm. I would have walked out and dined elsewhere, but the bartender/host invited me to sit anywhere. I really wanted to try the Mexican roll... but alas, it was no longer on the menu... perhaps there's a separate menu for dinner? I had a Samurai roll and one glass of wine. The Samarai roll was of average size and quality... and definitely not worth the $18 price tag. My bill was $30... for one advertised $18 roll and one glass of wine.... not sure what the pricing situation is, but something didn't add up. It was not an awful experience.... but I wont be back for overpriced, mediocre food and service. read more

They forgot about us when we were put on the waiting list, even though they wrote my name and phone number down). After we sat down we didn't get a server for another 20 minutes. We were ready to order but then they told us the ramen was not available permanently which was disappointing. It was on the menus and was the only soup besides miso. The small hot plates were pricey for what they were so we opted for sushi. The sushi was just ok in presentation, variety and quality. I would say taste was pretty good. We ran into other issues with our server like needing to ask a busser every time we needed something (like our rice they forgot). The staffing was organized so strangely and it was creating confusion as well as not good service. The edamame was good and even though the rolls were ugly and pricey they tasted pretty good. I'm so glad this place opened up in downtown Plainfield. They deliver now!! I haven't tried the delivery but I will keep it in mind for sure since we don't live too far. We have been coming here for a while now and I think it has gotten even better since they first opened. The owner Jason is very accommodating and friendly. My favorites are the honey shrimp tempura, Brussels sprouts salad, and Little piggy roll. They make a good cocktail too! Should have known to look elsewhere when my family and I were the only ones in the whole restaurant at 6pm on a Thursday. What a hidden Gem. Mora is a perfect place for a date night, it can be with your significant other or just with a friend. It's intimate and you can carry a conversation. Food was amazing. We went last week on a Friday night at 6pm and it was pouring rain. The host was on the phone so we waited about 10 minutes. Finally he gets off and asks if we need a table for 3 and we say yes. He then tells us it's an hour wait, even though the restaurant is empty. He says those tables are for reservations. That's totally fine but he should have told us that right away instead of making us wait because by then, my mom had gone to park and was walking in the rain. It was very irritating. We went the next week for lunch and it was very good. Their lunch menu is different from their dinner menu though. Smaller and you can't get some of the dinner entrees. The sushi was good, rice was good. I just wish they would get more staff. I know it's probably a move to save money but our waitress had every table herself and was all over the place and I know the table next to us said something to her about it. read more

I went to the Plainfield location for dinner around 6pm a couple of weeks ago, and was very pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. There is a small patio out front with about 6-8 tables. The front entrance has a garage-like door that entirely opens to the front of the bar area. There is additional table seating in the back. The lights were dimmed and they had modern lighting to make for a cozy, intimate setting. There was also current music playing. Our server, Martin, was very attentive and very polite. Our food came out promptly. I ordered the honey walnut shrimp, which was delicious. I plan on returning soon! read more

Stopped in here on a Friday night and took seats at the bar cause we didn't want to wait for a table. I'd recommend making a reservation cause this place was hopping shortly after 6 PM! I wish I would've ordered a cocktail- they all looked amazing and the bartender seemed to be knowledgable. I had the grilled salmon first- YUM! Grilled perfectly and the sauce was a great pairing. Also had the crunchy roll and spicy tuna roll which were pretty standard. I highly recommend the Poke- great flavors and the fish was very fresh. Only concerns were the smallness of the tiger shrimp and the service did not seem to flow very well. That may have been due to us being up at the bar, I'm not sure. I'm not from Chicago, originally from Houston but I decided to give this place a try because I've been dying to eat a poke bowl. I was not disappointed! Salmon Poke Bowl was amazing, the right amount of vinegar, sweet and fresh mango and cucumbers. And the salmon was great! The Brussel sprout salad was amazing! I'm by a fan of Brussel sprouts, but this salad is a must try. I thinking the sprouts are roasted (?) so you get that crunchy texture. Will be coming back! read more

Great space on the patio. They have a small space but are doing a good job spacing tables. We ordered the Brussel sprout and kale salad, green beans, tiger sprimo and salmon carpaccio. Went to MORA for Father's Day today and it was great. Will note the air conditioning was broke and it got very hot and uncomfortable towards the end of our meal. Fish was fresh and came out in a timely manner. Ordered Uber Eats today and no wasabi or pickled ginger with my order of three sushi rolls and a kale salad. Is wasabi & pickled ginger something you have to request?? It comes standard in Walmart sushi. Also my Alaska roll was basically cooked because they put the warm salad on top of the cold sushi and cooked it during the drive. Okay so first off, our waitress' name was Emily. She was soooo awesome it was unreal! I'm a waitress myself and I appreciate awesome service. My parents and I came in for dinner tonight and they were full of questions and she was full of helpful answers. I wanted to love this place, honestly. After reading yelp reviews and seeing the pictures, I thought "This is gonna be my spot when I come home to visit!" Unfortunately, not the case. The service was meh. Drinks took a long time, which is understandable when it's a packed house (it wasn't). The food came out at weird times as well. My friend ordered lumpia and orange chicken which came out before the three rolls and nigiri that were ordered. While service was spotty, I will say our server was SO nice and didn't seem too bothered that my table was mildly obnoxious. She was so understanding that we were catching up and barely looked at the menu for the first half hour we were there. The food was .. ok. Better than I expected for Plainfield .. but coming from California and having sushi made of fish caught the morning before serving - I'm biased. The samurai roll wasn't spicy, but the crunchy roll was pretty good (subbed cucumber for avocado 10/10 recommend) The lumpia tasted like it was made with breakfast sausage but two of my friends seemed to enjoy it. I'm not a huge fan of brussel sprouts or kale or any greens for that matter, but this salad is an exception because there must be magic unicorn dust on it that made it magically delicious. Well... I'm here at the moment for lunch with my family and in-laws ... hard to believe that several of the lunch menu items were unavailable... In particular not able to make any Sandwiches due to being "out of bread " ... how is a place out of bread for a lunch menu? So wanted a cocktail but couldn't make a Mai Tai cause these ingredients were out as well ... Finally placed my food order , kitchen never brought it out ... I realize this is a tapas style restaurant but apparently the kitchen majorly messed up the order and left the poor server holding the bag (Rocco) When my order did appear , adobo fried rice , it came out vegetarian with potatoes, an order actually meant for the next table the kitchen guy takes the dish from in front of me after it sat a while and serves it to the table next to me !!! How did he know I didn't dig in already after being so hungry for waiting for my food ...?? Have to say tough, the service is really good and the flavors are also but today there is a disconnect with the kitchen aNd the ability to serve menu items ... Came here on the advice of a friend. Having lived in California for over a decade, and half of that in San Jose's Japantown (where I had at least six decent sushi restaurants within walking distance) I am spoiled when it comes to sushi. I had a bad experience at Sushi-Ya in Joliet, which made me question whether I should even attempt to satisfy my sushi cravings in Illinois ever again. I'm happy to say that I've since found a couple of worthy spots, including Mora. The visit started off on a bad note, unfortunately, with my drink order. I overheard that they were short a bartender last night, which is probably the root cause. I ordered a B. Nectar "Kill All The Golfers" mead and a carafe of Yuki junmai sake. The waiter brought me a carafe filled with sake and a bottle of Yuki lychee flavored nigori sake and a bottle of mead and a glass for the mead. The Yuki nigori listing on the menu said $8 for a carafe and $30 for a bottle, so at first I thought he had brought me an extra bottle of sake. But no, he said he had just put most of what was in the bottle into the carafe. However, what was in the carafe was clear (at least at the top.). Ah, he had forgotten to shake the bottle up before decanting it! He didn't seem to find it odd that he had decanted a basically single serving bottle of sake (carafes for sake are for serving bulk sake or hot sake, it doesn't need to "breathe" like French wine, and a Japanese ceramic carafe would be useless for that purpose anyway.) I pointed out the Yuki junmai entry on the menu and said that's what I wanted, not the lychee nigori, so he took it back. Then he came back and said they no longer carried the junmai, or maybe they were sold out (I forget which.). So I decided to take the lychee nigori after all to keep it from going to waste. In all this confusion I had failed to look at my mead bottle, which was not "Kill All The Golfers," but rather "Necromangocon." I decided not to send it back since it had been another flavor I was curious about, but talk about a screwed up order. Having said that, both beverages were delicious. I'm not going to go into too much detail about each specific dish I ordered. They included: escolar truffles, walu-walu roll (another name for escolar, aka "superwhite tuna" if you are at a restaurant that sells it as a cheap alternative to tuna instead of a delicacy), the grilled glazed mushrooms, two pieces of unagi nigiri, and a spicy tuna roll. I finished off the meal with a glass of absinthe which was served with a slotted spoon, sugar cubes, and an ice water "fountains" to drip water over the sugar cubes. All the sushi was absolutely delicious, although seriously overpriced compared to what I'm used to. I was expecting four "escolar truffles" for $8 but there were only two. All the fish was top notch, the rice was perfectly prepared and seasoned, and the grilled mushroom was one of the "meatiest" vegetarian dishes I've ever tried. The mushroom was of a type I've never eaten before (King Mushroom I gather) and the flavor and texture were robust and beefy. The absinthe fountain was an experience not to be missed. I've had absinthe a number of times in the past but never so elaborately and impressively presented. My final bill for dinner for one came out to $85 including three drinks. Definitely in the realm of a "once in a while special occasion" restaurant. The blue-haired, blue-lipped, lotus-tattooed young beauty who sat at the table next to mine was celebrating her birthday, for instance. Maybe I will be back next year for my birthday, or if I win the lottery. But the sushi was as good or better than anything I've had in California. read more

This is our last time at this restaurant. The service is horrendously slow, inattentive, just bad. I understand short staffed /COVID thing, but we had a party of three with no alcohol and it took 2hrs and 15mins and I had to repeatedly ask our server for water, utensils, napkins. The last straw was I asked for a Diet Pepsi, it was flat and tasted like syrup and completely undrinkable. I told our server and he said there must be something wrong with the machine. They charged us for it and when I asked why I was charged for the flat, syrupy pop that was obviously not drank, he told me the "restaurant demands that he charged us for it". The mushrooms have been removed from the menu, which made us sad since we loved those, they've also switched the drink menu. This is a relatively small restaurant in downtown Plainfield. We had no problem finding street parking. Small bar with a dining room in the rear. Host was super nice as our party of 9 was seated promptly. Craft cocktail menu with some unusual choices. Everyone liked their choices. I had a tasty Buddha Beer. The menu was small plates of Asian dishes which were all nicely priced. Unlike many Asian joints it is possible not to spend an arm and a leg here. The highlights were the Crispy Seoul wings- sweet and hot, very tasty. Lemongrass Beef skewers were perfectly prepared with a nice sauce, kale salad was delicious. I'm not sure what the rest of the group had but everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Small plates mean fast service which was appreciated. I will definitely be back. read more

I absolutely love Mora Asian Fusion! I really love the little quant bar area right in the front of the restaurant. It's such a fun and cozy place to be especially on a Friday or Saturday night. The crowd is always happy, lively and buzzing when you sit up there. Since we always go in and just sit a the bar most times that we go, we would order just some small plates, and appetizers which are to die for! Love the totally delicious and worth it!...with the alcohol content being abundant, as served by the WONDERFUL BARTENDERS! We went for lunch on a cold day and were pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome and quick service. The lunch menu had ample choices. The food comes in batches and each tried to outdo the other. The spicy korean wings were definitely worth it- it was plentiful, and was definitely crispy without being burnt and oily. The Donburi bowl had fresh raw seafood that was beautifully presented. Then came the adobo fried rice. It was done like how it originally is done in the Philippines- with chunks of pork adobo, well oiled and with a runny sunny side up egg with crisped bottom. (It's supposed to be mixed in with the rice while the rice is warm so the egg ends up cooked all the way through. And the oil is from the marinated pork chunks in it). We also had a signature roll. The tea is made from scratch and is definitely authentic looking and tasting. They refill it with hot water upon request. It was a very satisfying lunch and very fairly priced. He was really open to us asking questions about how he got his start, favorite dishes, etc. Very friendly guy. The food was phenomenal. We got the edamame, lemongrass beef, chicken teri and a spicy roll (can't remember the name). Flavors were great. Short and to the point review: Pros: Excellent decor Decent Spicy Hamachi sushi roll ( 7/10) Decent tea selection Attentive server Cons: Decent tea but served in a glass so it doesn't stay warm very long. Small apps, good idea but mediocre execution: Tried the corn app - (6/10) Nothing special, a little oily. The chicken Yakatori app (5/10) would have been much better with a decent sauce to accompany the dish. The Pancit noddles (7/10) which were almost immediately cold upon arrival at the table were a tad on the small portion size for 2 people. A little on the pricey side for what you receive. Final thoughts: Not really an Asian Fusion place, rather a sushi place with some random samplings of appetizers served as "tapas" style dishes to seem more upscale. Not a bad idea for the Plainfield area. This restaurant adds a little diversity to a boring landscape of run-of-the-mill restaurants. Hopefully they adjust their menu and take constructive criticism to heart. I will likely return to try Mora again in several months to see if there has been any improvement. read more

Very disappointing; this place has gone downhill and there are just so many other better options available. It used to be crowded with a standing room only wait on a Friday night. Not anymore. The Service is average and could be more attentive. But it's the food that has taken a nose dive. It is is especially bothersome to pay high-end prices for marginal or less quality food. Some examples are as follows. When they opened, their seaweed salad was a great dish and gave you enough to share with others. Last night there was very little seaweed buried in a heap of plain lettuce and it was barely an individual portion. Really!! You're going to charge that much for plain lettuce. Also, they provide metal chopsticks but even the lettuce pieces were so big you needed to wrestle with it to be able to eat it. Instead of crispy with a nice spice kick, the Korean Chicken was soggy and bland. We ordered some entrees to share at the table for the four of us. They arrived with no serving utensils that you have to request. Then the sushi was served in such small portions. The pieces were virtually flavorless and all stuck together. Very disappointing, for the price you would expect a portion that wasn't half the size of a typical roll you find elsewhere. Bottom line, avoid this place and seek out many better options. read more
