Morella occupies a corner in the Marina district. The decor inside is Mediterranean. There are two levels where you could be seated, as well as an active bar area. We arrived and were seated upstairs. Some tables overlook the downstairs dining room. We were greeted by our server, Nina, right away. She told us about some of the specials as well as some of her and customers' favorite dishes. We considered these before ordering. We started with two appetizers, the beet salad, which we shared and was full of interesting textures and flavors. The baked goat cheese was hot and had amazing seasoning. It also could be shared, but it is a smaller portion. It arrived with toasted sourdough to scoop up the goat cheese and blistered tomatoes. For entrees. We ordered Cacioi di Pepe and the Sirloin steak. The pasta was full of flavor, and my wife had added chicken, which gave it a nice balance between protein and carbs. Unfortunately, the steak, which looked amazing and was accompanied by duck fat fingerling potatoes, arrived cold. Our waitress, Nina, sent it back to the kitchen, and the manager, Sly, brought a new plate as well as some steak bites. He apologized for the inconvenience and told me he would be back in a few minutes. When he returned, he talked to us for a bit and took responsibility for the issue. He then removed the entree from our final bill and also provided a couple of cocktails. The variety of cocktails was great. Three that we would recommend are Lifes a Beach, Wake me up, and our favorite, Cara Jillo. I am glad we had Nina as our waitress for the Morella experience, and we were thoroughly impressed by Sly, the manager. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are out and about in the Marina district. Reservations would be suggested. This is definitely a foodie experience not to be missed.
This review feels like a teeter totter. It took approximately 30 minutes to find parking, I know SF, to be expected. I had made reservations and shared this with my friends and everyone was in agreement. It popped up on my instagram, as they were having an upcoming RnB brunch the following weekend.I loved the ambiance, and the concept of Italian and Argentenian very unique. The reservation check in was interesting as my friend made it in first and was told she had to wait until someone else came but she checked in. I showed up and check in and the girl made it seem like she did not find my name (I confirmed at least twice though the texting prompts) and my friend checked in under my name lol. On top of that it was semi empty at noonish time. It was three of us, and I was excited to try their slushy drink which changes the featured drink was Guava pineapple I believe. On a whim my friend was game to try a mimosa tree! It was beautifully presented with passionfruit, pineapple, orange juice and came with 6 drinks. My friend and I decided to split food which was the breakfast burrito and a prosciutto sandwich. Everything was amazing. My other friend had tostadas which she stated were dense. It took another weird turn as we ordered dessert- alfajores and a canoli We were so busy talking but then I realized it must have been past 30 minutes and the waitres stated she would check. By then I asked if it could be canceled and sure enough we left without dessert. There was a bridal party on the upper floor and they stated they were having a time cutting the cake, so I guess that means the rest of us were put aside. Bummer. We were presented with dessert passes to come back within 30 days. I don't live there and my other friends live further out. I'm wondering how the RnB festival went if this was just any other saturday. Glad we got to check it out though
I went to Morella with a group of 6 at 8pm on a Saturday and it was an hour wait. There are lots of spots around to grab a drink while you wait. The service was attentive and the decor is bright and inviting. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The highlight was the Alfredo gnocchi as well as the espresso martini. The carbonara was about a 7/10. But it was a huge portion. Definitely will. Go back!
Came here on a Sunday night for dinner after hearing such great things about this place and walking by it a ton. I had tried to come a few times before as a walk in but the wait was always 2+ hours. I was able to grab a same day res on a Sunday evening for 7pm. The inside is low lit, well decorated, clean, and very aesthetic. I was obsessed with all of the chandeliers. Tables are well spread apart as well, there was a large party by us but the noise levels weren't bad at all. The food! I decided to go with the steak and my friend got a pasta dish. The steak was good but not my favorite. The cut was a bit fatty and the sauce could have been a bit more savory. For apps we got fries, the martini dip, and calamari. All three were delicious and the martini dip was my favorite, only thing I wish is that they had added more dipping items. The proportions didn't match well so we ended up with a lot of dip left over. Overall this is a great place for any occasion. I definitely plan on coming back to try more menu items!
This restaurant has a sophisticated interior Hostess and wait staff were very professional and attentive even offered some suggestions from their favorites on the menu..We were greeted with whiskey shots for the entire table. The food was delicious. For appetizers we chose the Arancini and Argentine empanada I had the Caprese salad and Lamb bolognese, My dining partners had crab ravioli, Beet salad, the short rib topped off with a perfect cocktails Give Me A Melon Reason, Funky Flamingo & Life's A Beach for dessert we shared the chocolate Gelato and Affogato both were delicious. We had a wonderful time. I definitely will be back for date night.
Morella's ambiance is top tier, great place to enjoy brunch. We arrived a few minutes late to our reservation and they were very accommodating. The Irish coffees were stiff as they should be! The breakfast burrito was filling and they do not skimp on the avocado w/ the avocado tostadas. If you have a large group this place can accommodate your party.
Such a thoughtfully decorated restaurant. this is the cutest restaurant I've been to in a while. We were a group of six celebrating a friend's birthday. Service can be improved but all the staff we interacted with were very friendly and had a lot of recommendations. Now the nitty gritty: the food. We ordered the bone marrow to start (YES), and the calamari (not bad). For entree I got the DUNGENESS CRAB SORRENTINOS: Three-cheese ravioli, green peas, potatoes, carrots, Dungeness crab, crab bisque sauce. I ate the whole thing up so yes it was good. We did not order dessert because we had a birthday cake for the birthday girl. I would come back for the crab ravioli!
The ambiance inside Morella is a 10/10, however the food imo was just okay. Got the Picanha steak and was really excited to try it but unfortunately didn't like it, it was chewy and had a strange after-taste. I'm not sure what it's supposed to taste like tbh and regret not getting my fav cut (rib eye). It came with potatoes, sautéd mushrooms and chimichurri which saved the dish. Our group ordered a few things to share: calamari, beef empanadas, truffle fries and octopus. Overall, they were average but nothing special. On a bright note, the cocktail I ordered "life's a beach" was absolutely delicious. Service was wonderful though, our waiter was so friendly so I would actually come back here and try something else (prob the midnight pasta or ribeye and would get the calamari and truffle fries again).
Ambiance Deco Service hosts and hostesses are top notch. Complimentary bubble in the house at beginning is so nice. We tried calamari, carbonara, midnight, Dungeness crab , and scallops, refreshing Negroni and cherry blossom cocktails to compliment the meal. Food came slow but conversation made up for that. We are so comfortable so not to rush the dining out experience anyway. As expected pastas are not out of this world. Calamari is average. Scallops is excellent. Cocktails are nice. All in one, recommended.
I'd been in this space before as a different restaurant, they added so much more flare and vibe to the inside, so that alone makes this a great spot to bring the gang. Another great thing was the giant booth we were seated at. We had a group of 8 and the table was designed so perfectly that we could all see, hear and interact with each other! They were short staffed that day so we leaned into catching up and let the dishes and drinks fall as they may. The stand-out hits were the croquettes filled with shrimp and cheese that were perfectly crispy on the outside, but pillowy and delicious on the inside. The other hit was the ragu pasta (this place is an Italian-forward restaurant). It was so savory and meaty and the pasta was perfectly al dente. I'll also point out their brunch cocktail game was on-point. Takes on spritzes, negronis and tropical cocktails were kept light, not overly sweet and presented beautifully. The wallpaper in the bathrooms also gets a special shout out. Put on something cute, get the peeps out the house on a Sunday and settle in.
Food, ambiance, friendly staff, and reasonable prices makes this place a special destination for a great solo date or event with friends and family. Don't believe the bad yelp reviews about the food being bad. I ordered the lamb chops, broccolini, garlic bread and mashed potatoes. Food was delicious. Mashed potatoes tasted a little like instant potatoes, but the flavor was definitely in the food and everyone who worked in the restaurant was very welcoming! Please go! You'll love it as much as I did!
I loved that Morella is so pretty inside and the colors and theme are so cute. We sat at a table but the bar looked cute too. I got noodles, garlic bread, and broccolini and all of them were so good. The portion size for the noodles was perfect and it was a white cream sauce. The garlic bread was crispy and went well with the pasta sauce too. The drink I got was delicious as well, and it looked aesthetic too. Service was great as well. I would definitely come back here!
We visited yesterday around 8PM to check out their holiday cocktail menu & have some snacks. It was quite full as they were celebrating their one year anniversary (Congratulations Morella!) & although all dining tables were taken, we snagged 2 seats at the bar. I prefer sitting at the bar because you can chat with the staff & people watch. We shared the crab arancini which had a good amount of crab in the rice balls & sauce had a crab flavor (I'm guessing that they use the crab shells to create a sauce) & the arancini were nice & crispy too. I had the chicken Milanese which was perfect, crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. My friend had lamb chops that were pretty good (I had a little bite). We had arroz con leche for dessert which arrived warm as though it was freshly made. It wasn't too sweet & was a perfect light ending to our meal. For cocktails, I started with No Way Jose which was refreshing & tropical. I had the John McClane spritz holiday cocktail after dinner which was pretty good. Service is always friendly & helpful.

We came here on a Sunday night for dinner and it was so cute and had a good amount of seating in there! I loved how decorated it was in there. they had a variety of good drinks and food there. We sampled their weekly slushie which was horchata and it was so good! For drinks we got the espresso martini and melon spritz and both were very good cocktails! For food, we started with oysters and the arancini. The posters were good and the arancini was so creamy and delicious! For mains, we got the buchanan steak, garlic fries, and their seasonal seafood mac and cheese. All dishes were very good and filled with flavor. Everything came on good timing, service was great! A cute and solid girl dinner spot, I would come back here! read more

I would rate Morella 4.5 stars if I could. I came in with a large group without a reservation, and the staff were very accommodating. After waiting a short while, we sat in a semicircular booth with many chairs added to the end. Our waitress was very attentive despite us admittedly not being the easiest group to work with. All the food was able to come out simultaneously, so kudos to the staff for making that happen! Service was exceptional. The food is where this restaurant fell a little flat for me. Everything was ok. Personally I had the fusilli pasta. The anchovy flavor was very strong. The picanha came pre sliced and in a smaller portion than expected. Likewise for the arancini. The decor of the restaurant is a little kitschy, but in a good way. I enjoyed the atmosphere here. read more

Visited Morella in San Francisco and was impressed. The place is super cutesy and aesthetic. I ordered the Midnight Pasta, and WOW.. loved the flavors. Rich, comforting, and flavorful without being heavy.. I was skeptical around beef and cream/cheese but it worked! Service was quick and friendly, which made the experience even better. Morella nails both the ambiance and the flavors. Definitely a spot I'd return to and recommend for a cute night out or a cozy dinner. read more
Second time back and loved it even more than the first!! The smash burger offered on their happy hour menu was soooo good! Everything we ordered was amazing. Shout out to our server that was soooo sweet. I should got his name! He gave my daughter some ice cream since she was so well behaved. It was really kind!! Perfect spot for large group! Some years later, I was finally able to make it to Morella to kit off my holiday soirées. A good friend and I decided to go this very hyped restaurant. I made reservations and we were seated as soon as we checked in. We were sat in the area with the high tables and velvet stools. When the host sat us he said, he was sitting us there so that we could enjoy the Christmas Decorations. As I looked at those kitschy ass decorations, I gave my all to not do a very hard pass and asked to be seated in the main dining room. I had to keep in mind that I was there for the cuisine and company. The server came over to go over the menu, she was very knowledgeable of the menu and made some spot on recommendations. We ordered the empanadas, pasta, and a salad. Everything was tasty but the salad was tart and vinegar-y, good but tart. We kept it simple and just had dinner then headed home. If good food is your thing, go now. If you're not into cheesy Christmas decorations and lights, go in February. read more

Came for brunch on a Sunday at noon with a friend! We were seated immediately. The restaurant is super cute inside, we visited at the end of November and it was decorated for Christmas. Absolutely loved the aesthetics and the lighting was great for photos too. We got the mimosa tower, it was super cute and mimosas were average. We split a bunch of appetizers - half dozen oysters (love the shallot sauce), beef empanadas (a bit dry), calamari (possibly one of the best I've had!), and arancini. Our favorite dishes were the calamari and arancini. Was a fun brunch date! read more
i've been here a couple times now. the service and ambiance is five stars. the food is probably like 3.5-4 stars (on a good day). they give you complimentary champagne which is nice. their bar drinks are also tasty! the food is good portions but isn't the best italian you can get in the city (granted.. it's in the marina district so culture might as well be out the door anyways). my friend got the spaghetti and meatballs and the meatballs were hard.. the midnight pasta is good, aside from the fact that they use a whole bottle of garlic seasoning per serving so you might think you're eating a seafood boil. jokes aside, the food is just alright but everything else about this place is right on. i would come back here for a cheeky little hangout. read more

Our Friday night double date in September for three of our birthdays was a bit lackluster at Morella. My husband and I arrived first and we were asked to wait in the bar area because they weren't ready to seat us. That would've been fine if the stools weren't so rocky and if either one of the two guys behind the bar had acknowledged us after placing water down. We weren't even given menus. I asked the couple next to us if I could see their menus. It was 7pm and neither bartenders were busy. They were just talking to each other. Then one left with his jacket and then the one still there started talking to a friend leaving the bar. After waiting a bit, the hostess took us upstairs so we brought our waters with us. A server did come to us soon after to take our drink order and we got them fast. Morella is slated to be an Argentinian Italian restaurant serving up pastas and meats. Sadly, they do NOT offer gluten free pasta. At least they have raw oysters, seafood dishes, and steak! We decided to get a bunch of things and a bottle of wine to share that either didn't have gluten or allowed me to avoid it. The raw oysters and salad were fresh. The octopus was overcooked with a mealy texture. The boys had the empanadas and liked them. We did enjoy the bone marrow a lot. When we commented about having a ruby port to finish off the bone marrow, the server actually brought us some. We each took a turn pouring port down the bone marrow and sucking up the fat on the other end. Yummy! The duck and boar sausages were good. My friends had the bread. The picanha was ok though we enjoyed the short ribs and our side of broccolini. We ended the night with espresso martinis and ice cream. We were seated upstairs. The flow of the food was fine but our server wasn't available very often. Our water glasses were often empty and we had to ask someone to refill our glasses. At least the server was friendly. I see that their new menu as of October offers gluten free pasta. We might come back to try a pasta dish. read more
Came to Morella with a group for dinner on a Thursday night- clearly a popular spot for both dinner and happy hour. While we sat upstairs at a table, I did notice there was an open standing area for people to grab drinks and mingle. My group shared an appetizer of fried calamari and I got the midnight pasta. Additionally, I got a glass of wine. The fried calamari was good, nothing special. Although I did really like that they had 2 dipping sauces, depending on preference. The midnight pasta was quite tasty and they clearly don't skimp on portion sizes. I was barely able to finish mine and I'm a big eater. And it was tasty- I would try something else next time just to explore more of the menu, but I would absolutely recommend it to someone I'm with. The wine was decent. A friend suggested this place for dinner, and it did not disappoint! We were running a little late for our reservation, but they were still able to accommodate us on a Friday night. We started off with the Arancini and Caprese Salad as our appetizers. Our main entrees were the Lamb Bolognese, Midnight Pasta with Black Truffles, and a side of Sautéed Garlic Broccolini. All were so flavorful and easily shareable between 4 people. We ended the meal with Alfajores, which had the right amount of sweetness to cap it off. We left with happy tummies! It can get quite loud inside, so we had to project our voices a bit when we were conversing. The restaurant has nice vibes though and is nicely decorated! A nice place to grab dinner with friends in the Marina that is open pretty late at night! read more

Absolutely stunning restaurant -- Went with a party of three and loved every.single.thing -- the vibe is absolutely beautiful, the cocktails were perfection, and the whole experience felt special. I had wanted to go for some time as I follow them on Instagram...they definitely stood up to my expectations. Service was a little slow, but honestly, it didn't matter. We shared the oysters which were absolutely delicious. I love restaurants that pay attention to detail and this is definitely that restaurant. Every aspect of it is well thought out and done to perfection. Can't wait to go back! recommend the Wake Me Up in Manhattan and The Morella cocktails. read more

I came here with a group of my girls on a Friday night. Place was packed and service was amazing! The interior is beautiful and totally a vibe. Lots of photos moments but honestly the food was 10/10 I don't recommend the bone marrow. Mid I highly recommend the lamb chops! Top tier and the fries were amazing lol. We ordered a spicy pasta, I forget the name but it was so good we had to order two! Will definitely be coming back for a dinner date. read more
It's a beautiful new spot, former Dorian restaurant. Really fun spot with great energy. Morella is lively and stylish, definitely a go-to for a night out with friends. It does get loud, but that kind of adds to the vibe. Food-wise, there were some solid wins. The Baked Goat Cheese was a great starter--warm, creamy, and easy to share. The Bone Marrow was rich and indulgent. For mains, the Braised Short Ribs were super tender and flavorful over the polenta, and the Chicken Milanesa was comforting and filling, if a bit heavy. The pastas were the highlight though. The Carbonara was rich and classic, and the Midnight Pasta really stood out--savory, a little spicy, and super satisfying. We also tried the Smash Burger, which was good but not as memorable as the pastas (though the fries were great). Service was friendly, even when it got busy, but overall a really enjoyable meal. Had a good experience at this cute restaurant! Found it on tik tok for brunch spots in sf for the girls and saw it had decent reviews! Came in around 1:15 pm on a Friday and it wasn't packed. Got seated right away, ordered drinks, while deciding on food and both came pretty fast. I ordered one of the house cocktails, the Smokin' with passion, which was refreshing with a subtle sweetness. Other drinks shown are the Orange mimosa and Carajillo, which is similar to an espresso martini but with Don Julio reposado. Cocktails were both priced at $16 while the mimosa was $11. Fair prices for drinks. There weren't that many food options, but I enjoyed having the Lamb Bolognese and Truffle fries. Nothing you can't get anywhere else, but it was pretty good. Portion size was perfect as it got me filled super quick and had enough to take home with me. Other dishes shown are the Avocado Tostada and Alfredo Pasta. Had great service from the our server, who was friendly and checked up on us during our meal. Took some pictures on the stairs and in the upstairs bar area, and the staff didn't mind! I will say that street parking may be hard to find since it's in the Marina district with lots of outdoor shops and restaurants. We were lucky enough to find parking close by around the corner. My friend and I came here for a Sunday birthday brunch today (7/20). First impression is that this place is beautiful! The decor makes it IG worthy and fun. We were there at 11am, right when it opened, and upon being sat, sadly, the first thing I noticed was that there were dirty old food stains from the day before on the floor. For a place with such a gorgeous aesthetic, the lack of attention to detail raised an eyebrow. But anyways, on to the food and such. We started by ordering drinks: the life's a beach and the no way Josue. Both drinks were fantastic, no notes! I genuinely wish I wanted to drink more just to try more things on their menu. The food: we ordered the bone marrow, the sausage with eggs (boar sausage that the server very highly recommended and the duck+apple sausage), and the sweet crepe. The bone marrow was nice and salty and a large portion! The sausage plate was good. I would absolutely get the duck+apple sausage again, while the boar was ok and I wish we had gotten rabbit instead. The crepe was a lovely finish - fairly light, not too sweet. So the drinks were a 5/5. The food was good and solid, so let's go with a 4/5 - I wonder if the dinner menu would be better and more unique? Now, the service. Our server was fine, but we had a guy who kept, what felt like, creeping around our table. He was clearly coming by to check on whether he could clear our plates, but it was in the most awkward ways where he'd walk up to the table, realize there was nothing to clear, and then mumble something to himself and walk away. Then he also came by and asked if my friend was done with her drink (while reaching for it) when there was clearly a good quarter of the drink still in her glass. The moment my group walked into Morella, I knew I had chosen a dud; the restaurant sat mostly empty on a weekend night & the vibes were off from the get-go. The aesthetic decor & jolly holiday setup hid a dirty secret -- aloof service & unexceptional food. Of our handful of starters, the two I tried were mediocre, at best; Fried Green Tomatoes had an overly-tangy marinara & the Caprese Salad was nothing special despite its long ingredient list. The Picanha Steak came out much more rare than I had requested, which pleased my companions but left me without a main dish. Because dinner was so unsatisfying, I suggested my group head elsewhere for dessert to close out the bill as soon as possible. I wish I'd picked a better restaurant. My only consolation is I'm able to warn others not to make the same mistake I did. read more

Ohhh the marina! My old stomping grounds! I had no idea that this place now opened here it used to be something completely different three businesses ago. I'm loving how they redesign the whole space it's very chic. I love the interiors. It's a great place if you want to throw a fun bachelorette, birthday party any party really. We saw some sweet 16 happening when we came in. I would say that the drinks are great, and the appetizers are stronger than the main courses . I would recommend are the calamari it's very unique and very well fried and breaded. Aracini with a nice cheese dip! and surprisingly, I'm not a sausage person but the sausages that were they made were quite unique so I would suggest giving those a try if you wanna try something different. I had high hopes for the empanada, but I feel like there was something off about the exterior texture and the inside seemed a little bit mushy. For a main course, I would recommend the steak. He had good flavoring, solid cooking. Some say you should get the brisket, but I feel like the brisket had a flavor that I wasn't very fond of but if you want something filling, that's shareable you can definitely try that. read more
Came here on a quiet Tuesday for our wedding anniversary. Pleasantly surprised with what was on offer. Started with a Caesar salad, empanadas and the dirty martini dip. Salad and empanadas were fantastic, would definitely order again. The dip was something we would not reorder. We enjoy all the ingredients of the dip separately (blue cheese, olives, etc) but there was something about all of them together that just didn't work. Glad we tried something new but just wasn't for us. We ordered two pastas. The midnight with the shredded beef was very good. Incredibly filling and savory. The Alfredo (with added chicken) was also pretty good although I think the sauce split just enough that it was noticeable. At least it shows they are making it from scratch. The flavors were all there and it wasn't inedible. The alfajores we ordered for dessert were fantastic and the perfect way to finish our meal. Great restaurant in the Marina, plenty of parking with the best ambience. The decor is very white lotus, my husband and I tried to guess how many tigers were in the wallpaper lol. The pink flamingoes in the drink were a nice touch! The food was excellent, drinks boozy and the ambience chic. Argentinian Empanadas 5/5, loved the chicken over the beef Chicken Milanese 5/5- chicken was crisp with a ton of gravy Argentinian style sausages2/5- wild boar garlic marsala and rabbit, white wine- not exactly my cup of tea, served with sauerkraut and some very dry bread Sweetbreads 4/5- very flavorful and tender, could be served with better sides. Service was quick, warm and friendly, no complaints here. read more
