I've been a customer of Morena Storage for ~ 10 years on and off (see previous reviews). Thanks to the poor choices of the new I expect my business relationship to be done with by the end of this week. Old management and employees were professional, courteous, and understood the ins and outs of the storage business. In doing so the cultivated rich relationships with the customers and grew by word of mouth. New owners . . . the complete opposite. I should have moved out in October 2020 when they started sending political messages to their customers -- Political messages that many of their customers likely disagreed with. STRIKE 1 Their second move was to issue all customers new lock and keys. . . this will become important Then came the incident on May 30, 2021: 11:20 I arrive there to unload some items that had been sitting in my car since last summer. When I sign in I notice that they have removed many of the security checks that the old owners had 12:20 After about an hour of triaging items for storage, trash, back in car I am about ready to go up. I am informed by the manager that she and the one other worker present are about to go on break for an hour and am given instructions on how to call the elevator . . . Seriously what kind of place has all their employees on break at the same time? STRIKE 2 12:40 I arrive at my unit with a cart load of items. I attempt to unlock the new padlock on my unit. The key begins to turn as normal before snapping off with part of key inside lock. 12:52 After spending several minutes trying to get reception I find myself at the building entrance talking to someone live on the phone. I explain my situation and I am told a manager will get back to me ASAP as the situation is understandably urgent. 13:15 Still noone there. I call again. Employee is kind of frustrated that noone would even talk to me. I am also frustrated as I am not getting the accessible storage I paid for. Old owners would have had someone to me within 5 - 15 minutes and problem solved in 45 max. I did not sign up to be held hostage for an hour by 2nd rate equipment. 13:30 They open back up. I explain the situation and that I've been standing around ~45 minutes. Their response: "I'm sorry your only option is to hire a locksmith to fix the problem" "I've been waiting for 45 minutes." "Well you should have known this would happen when I told you I was taking off" STRIKE 3 Un-flipping-professional I should not have to search for and pay for someone to fix THEIR defective equipment If they cannot respond to lock outs more efficiently they have no business being in the storage business. Several other customers who witnessed the exchange actually approached me to offer sympathies (and tips on finding lock smiths). I called later to let them know how disappointed I was with their service and that I intended to cease doing business with them ASAP. I was told They could have cut the bolt all along if only I'd been more calm and patient - STRIKE 4! Didn't you tell me a few hours earlier that calling a locksmith was my "ONLY OPTION"? It pains me to see what was once a great company get run into the ground by management that has no freaking clue about even the basics in customer care. Staff there had many opportunities to stand behind their business and make this situation better. Instead they repeatedly chose to insult my intelligence and play unprofessional games. Rude and incompetent. They lose your info frequently and threaten to charge you when they make a mistake. Anyone want to help me get rid of stuff. Parent passed during Covid and I was forced to use this place. Bad from the beginning but there was no where else to choose at the time. Very poor customer service. I've been here for ten years. New owners took over and since then this place has gone downhill. 11 break ins the first year. It never had shady people walking around presumably tenets. Walking to my unit smells like crap or something off. The management is horrible and the staff are not far behind. Very rude , argumentative and nothing like the prior staff or management. I have never had to pay so much money for a storage unit and be locked out on a holiday. I am not going to recommend this place, The staff is super incredible, the prices are not there fault. I enjoy the atmosphere, the customer service is really incredible close to best in San Diego. That being said I have never been so afraid to be on property after they close. My husband and I have used Morena Storage for about eight years. Years ago, my husband moved into my small condo with me. At that time, we got rid of some stuff, but had nowhere to put tools, Christmas decorations, some family heirlooms, and, later, our wedding presents. Going to get stuff out of storage, or put stuff in, is never fun. However, Morena made it a lot less painful. First, the people who work there are very nice. When we first moved our stuff in, they provided someone to help. Whenever I can alone, they always offered to help me. I was also usually given fresh cookies and water when I came. Once or twice, an employee even washed my windshield while I was out moving stuff. Next, it is a safe place. It is well-monitored by staff, so there are not strange people lurking in hidden places. When you arrive, they first unlock their lock, then you unlock your lock. Also, you have to have the staff call the elevator, which keeps the place safe. Finally, it is clean, and all indoor, away from the elements. I never feel uncomfortable there, and I know our belongings are in a safe environment. A few months back, we purchased a home, and moved all of our things out of storage. They were very kind and offered us help, and gave waters and cookies to as and the people who were helping us. I am very glad we no longer need a storage unit, but I am glad that Morena is the one we used. read more

This place is just discusting. Just called to get info on moving out of here finally. You have to give a 11 day notice and they do not prorate. I'm moving out finally on Tuesday!!!! Thw nasty attitude of the associate on the phone told me she did not like my attitude. I told her she was the one with the attitude and I am recording her. She said, she didnt care. Started yelling at me. Then, I asked what her name is and she hung up on me. I called corporate and they took a message for managment to call me back. He said, it will take 3-4 business days! I used to love this place, not anymore. I started renting a unit here around 10 years ago. Loved it, referred a bunch of people here, used to get a greeting, water, warm cookies, help whenever I needed it. It was honestly one of the most well run business' from a customer service standpoint that I'd ever encountered. Now, well, I might as well have a barcode on my neck, it's shell of it's former self. Every encounter I have with them now is infuriating since they switched ownership. It's been awful. Looks like it's time to find a new place. This is by far the best storage place in San Diego!!! I would give 10 stars if I could!!! When moving out, I injured my back, once I got to the storage, they unloaded the truck and helped to repack the truck so that nothing would shift on the long drive. Ezra did an amazing job and is so kind. Once we arrived at our destination, I opened the back of the truck to find nothing moved during the trip!!! I've been a customer here for going on a decade. Recently they were bought by someone new and have fully changed over their staff. The place has went downhill quickly all while increasing their rent. This place had the same staff for years who you got to know. The owner would come through and check on you and say hello. There was always happy music playing and employees doing their best to give great service. I even had my company come and rent their largest unit with a dock because I liked them so well. Now it has gotten so dirty, all of the staff is new, there is no cheery music and happy employees moving about. Today, the carts were so dirty that I ended up carrying stuff back to my car because I didn't want to use them. Also while signing in there was a customer who already had two units and had reserved one for moving his home into temporarily and they had double sold it. He was literally here with a moving truck and no place to put his stuff. The lady at the desk let him know that she was not the one that had double booked it and named some other employee blaming her. He just told her he didn't care who did it, he'd been a customer for 6 years, already was renting two units, and someone guaranteed him a place to put the stuff that he was moving in a truck outside today. I went and talked to him and said it was not the same owner anymore, clearly. She said that yes all of the staff was new and still learning their jobs. Bottom line, don't rent here. Morena Storage has really gone downhill due to ownership. What is the point of having a storage unit if the storage facility won't accept your packages even on a pallet! The facility will return your packages without contacting you. The managers have attitudes and are not willing to work with their customers. If you are a business that is predicated on receiving packages especially on a pallet, this storage company is not the place to do business with! I would not and do not recommend this storage facility! read more

Morena Storage is an example of you-get-what-you-pay-for. It is pricier than other storage units in the area, but their services and amenities are top-notch. Our company use them for storing stuff, and they've been great, particularly with delivering our packages to our unit. The people at the desk are always nice, Brian and his team offer water and homemade cookies, which are nice considering the physical activity you've finished or are about to engage in. read more

I have had a unit at this facility for two years. I initially chose because of climate control and security. I received call today stating my unit was broken into. I went over and noticed only one lock. I was told NEW MANAGEMENT removed secondary locks and I was notified. I was not. Once back in office the employee verified they FORGOT TO NOTIFY ME SECONDARY LOCKS AND VIDEO WAS REMOVED .. WHY??? Are these not the reasons people choose a particular storage facility. I was then told they would not be calling POLICE because it's MY UNIT. THE perimeter of building was NOT broken into -telling me they either LET IN THIEF OR it's someone ON PROPERTY WHOM KNOWS THERE IS NOW NO VIDEO OR SECONDARY LOCKS. STAY AWAY. I'm typically the type to shop around, but I've had a lot of storage units in my life and my initial experience on the facility tour with Cinnamon was amazing - way above and beyond. She answered all my dumb questions and didn't get the least bit frustrated when I asked to backtrack to a unit we had already seen. Despite the recent reviews that make it sound like a horror show, I think I'm going to take a chance because of the service I received today (and if I find out Cinnamon is gone, I might follow her out - the other guy in there struck me as the silent Bob type ) . Super customer service! They are efficient, professional and everything is very tightly run and organized! They have a great dual-lock system that ensures the safety of your posessions. The halls and storage units are immaculate! Great loading docks and carts make moving easy! For your first visit, they provide a truck and even an assistant as long as it's a local move. We were long distance, so we didn't get to take advantage of this. They offer free bottled water every time you visit and the kids always love the free candy bowl at check-in. Prices are competitive and given their standards, there is no need to look anywhere else! read more

I knew I was making the right choice to bring my business to Morena Storage as soon as I pulled up. The facility is spotless and the staff is welcoming, to the point where they make fresh baked cookies. I mean come on who doesn't like a fresh cookie! In all seriousness, the facility is great and so is their pricing. I feel safe and secure accessing my two units, a drive up and an internal unit. I actually prefer their two lock system, because I know someone is always double checking my unit. This is probably the oddest review I've ever written. The review is about my boyfriends storage unit at Morena. I have a lot to say. First of all I never considered having an opinion about a storage facility. Why would I? It is a place you put your things. Alright here's the deal......this place was nothing less than excellent. From the moment we walked through the front door until the moment we left we were greeted professionally by every employee we encountered. Not only greeted but extended an offer for assistance. Great training maybe but I had a strong sense that each person genuinely cared about how they were performing their job duties. Absolute excellence!! We were both offered a complimentary bottle of water upon arrival. Additionally it was clear that the level of care that existed at this facility permeated the entire team. It absolutely shows in the level of cleanliness at this location. The show room was clean. The elevator was clean. The hallways to the storage units were also clean. The level of cleanliness was immaculate and you would have thought you were in a very clean restaurant or hospital. To my surprise I am writing a review today. I do not currently have a storage unit nor need one. Which makes this entire situation even stranger. They don't advertise it but display a sign outside of the building stating you must leave your CHILDREN in the car....when I asked about it inside he said little kids have to stay in the car. First off, that's illegal. Next, totally unsafe. I'm a mom of two young kids, I can't hire a sitter just to go to my storage unit. You guys have got to be kidding me. I'll be renting at SD storage instead. Update to my review- I'm still standing my ground based on the fact that it wasn't only the sign that was the problem, it was how the question was handled with the employees as well. When I specifically asked about my children they said I have to leave them in the car. I don't understand how that is being left out of the equation. O.M.G - I can not thank theses guys enough!!!! When I came in, I was greeted with a smile and bottle of cold water. Ken was working at the front, he was THE MOST HELPFUL, MOST PERSONABLE and MOST THOUGHTFUL representative I could ask for. He helped me choose the right room size, got me on the books for a move in THE NEXT DAY! Signing up look 10-15 minutes. Mega fast. No waiting. No hassle. Ken is the man! If you are ever there, ask for Ken! The building is clean, smells good, bathrooms are spotless, it's air conditioned and has plenty of moving equipment. There is coffee, water and cookies. Yes, fresh cookies. On move in day I showed up earlier but they were still able to accommodate me. Free truck and free helper!!!! I saved at least $300 just by doing that. Gaige very carefully helped me move all the big pieces, was very thoughtful about my things and was really polite. I was moving out of a home with stairs and hallways and not once did he bump into anything. The level of service was exceptional. I mean exceptional. I'm a 5'5 tiny person, moving is not my favorite thing. Ken, Gaige and Donald made this move absolutely a breeze. I am so grateful. Pick Any of the glowing reviews that are already on here. There are plenty, in fact it is those very reviews that convinced me to go with Morena storage. They have been nothing but a spectacular but I didn't feel the need to leave a review since there's already so many good one pointing out everything I've noticed. However when I went to my storage unit today they did something that was above and beyond anything I have seen from any other storage unit. When I walked out the office and back to my car, to my astonishment one of the employees was actually giving me a complementary window washing. No joke!Morena employees will help you move in, give you water , are extremely nice and helpful oh and to top it off will clean your windows! This makes one reminisce of how businesses used to treat their customers and how we used to treat each other back in the day. This is a business that I gladly write the check to every month. We need more of this going on it made my day I want to spread some love as well. It really is the little things that make the biggest differences. Sure is some free water maybe a window washer in there and a smile doesn't cost much but it goes along way and they definitely have a customer for life and a brand advocate. Staff here is terrific -- Sierra and Junie have been very helpful and friendly! They watch over the facility better than is normally done. And Sierra very quickly took care of the issue I had with my move-in discount. I feel as though my belongings are safer here than other places due to higher security measures. The downside of this is that access stops at 7pm. I definitely wish it were 8pm. Storage unit interior has nice finishing and feels more upscale and not garage-like. Owners are the only problem with this location but it makes you dislike the place with more and more with time. If you are getting a storage for under 1 year then this is great option but if you need long term storage I recommend a place that does not raise the fees every year. They said by saying price is garunteed 1 years is the same as telling you that your rate is garunteed to go up every year. Plus if you want to downsize owners will not allow any of the special promotions because your already a customer. Ownership does not care about long term happiness of their customers. It is a Clean location and amazing customer service from the people always there working that are willing to help you move things (only the owners are rude to customers) read more

I had made special arrangements to come and get my personal items from the last property manager who I just found out walked out along with none of the old staff working there after the company was recently sold. Their old policy was to hold the items for 60 days which I had been told. I called up and spoke with the old manager and explained my situation she said "it shouldn't be a problem the box isn't that big we can hold it longer due to the situation with COVID". I said "awesome if anything changes please make sure to contact me since I have two of my pets ashes along with my birth certificate and social security card and other important documents and I will arrange to come back to San Diego sooner to grab everything". I stressed how important Louis and Mr Kitty's ashes were to me since both those pets were my children since I don't have any and both had a special meaning being rescued by me. I NEVER received any updates via email OR phone and just found out my items were thrown out! They literally threw both my pets ashes in a dumpster like they meant nothing. The new manager was nice but the lack of communication and telling me "sorry she walked out and quit" isn't acceptable. My pets ashes forget about the other things were just thrown out. They were my children and to say I am devastates is an understatement. The company has offered ZERO resolutions so I have decided to write this review on multiple platforms to make others aware of the type of non caring company this is. read more

UPDATE: you can only use their free truck and mover offer when you're moving IN to your storage unit. They we're booked up when I was moving into my unit and I thought "no problem.. I'll take advantage when I move out" nope. Can't do that unfortunately. No one bothered to explain that when I was moving my stuff into the unit. I was super disappointed to learn that days before I have to move out of my storage unit. That really, really disappointed me. After shopping around for a storage unit business, my roommate found Morena Storage. My roommate has a lot of stuff, I have much less, but I decided to rent from them as well since they have such a wide variety of sizes and decent pricing. They're secure and friendly, and I was always offered a water bottle when signing in, it was cold and refreshing and sometimes I forgot how much water I needed since I was so busy moving all my stuff. They're right near the 8 and the 5, and it's hands down the nicest looking business on the street. I'd recommend them to anyone I know needing a storage place. PLUS they had the Star Wars soundtrack playing the day I signed up, talk about epic moving music. read more

This place is the ABSOLUTE BEST! I have been meaning to write them a review for some time now. It almost brings a tear to my eye when I think about this place and how great they are. I had all my belongings in a unit here for almost 2 years (during some difficult transitions), and the customer service is impeccable. Not only do the offer you waters every time you walk in, but they always offer you help as well. I swear I was asked a minimum of 3 times every time I was in there. The most helpful team ever! On top of this, the first time I moved in, I was able to make use of the FREE TRUCK AND ONE FREE HELPER for first time move ins. How great is this! And once I had to upgrade to a larger room and I had one solo worker help me move everything! He tetris-ed everything in like I never could have. These guys also go above and beyond, and when I moved out they worked so hard helping me move all my heavy furniture and carefully fit it into my truck. One of the workers even spent his lunch break driving with me and helping me unload everything into my new place. I HIGHLY recommend Morena Storage to everyone! Morena Self Storage is out of this world. Please please PLEASE, if you ever need storage for anything.... call them! From the first phone call I made to them to the minute I walked out the door on the day of my move... I was impressed. I don't know who I talked to on the phone to set up my appointment, but he was awesome. I did not have to pick what size storage space I wanted ahead of time. They do that on the day of your move after they see all of your stuff and size it up! They have it right... you want people to talk about you and refer their friends? Treat them right, TRY to save them money... in the long run, it will make you MORE money! Not to mention that even if I HAD reserved a certain size ahead of time and been wrong?... they would have let me downsize with no penalty! Now to the best part. When you mention the Yelp special, you get a truck and a mover for 4 hours. For free. The only catch? You have to drive the truck, not the mover. Does that sound bad to you? Not to me! Either way I would have been driving a UHaul! :) Ezra was the mover assigned to me. He was quick, efficient, and totally nice. Being a girl alone trying to get moving done with a stranger, you always fear it will be uncomfortable or awkward. He was just super nice. He let me help because I felt like I was being useless, but he totally didn't need my help! My lifting like one thing lol. When I got there and saw the storage space we thought would work, it was suggested I go up just one foot on one side (5x8 vs 5x7). It was perfect. And the place feels clean and is multiple floors with an elevator, not one of these shady places in a parking lot where serial killers can hang out in units (at least on TV... but I guess, who knows... they probably do in real life, too!). While Ezra was unloading my stuff into the unit, I met with Chris in the office for paperwork. He was super personable and funny, and made sure I understood everything. BTW, my unit is only $68 a month. AWESOME! So much less than I thought I'd be paying (JACKPOT!). They also had Ezra cover my stuff in plastic at my request... which is FREE. Before coming here, I thought that all storage places were shady, dingy establishments that try to take your money at every turn and give you little confidence that your stuff is in good hands (for an example, see Public Storage on Pacific Highway). Not so at Morena Self Storage! This is a top-notch business staffed by top-notch folks - absolutely friendly all around. They even provide FREE labor to help you move your crap! (Who DOES that?) Competitive prices and no bullsh*t hidden fees. Nice, big loading docks with built-in ramps for your truck, and plenty of carts/dollies to use. Free water and coffee inside the office. And it's by far the cleanest, nicest storage facility I've ever seen. Oh yeah, and you can drop off your U-Haul here too... a little perk that came in handy on my last move. Super weird giving a storage place 5 stars, but this one for sure deserves it. I rented out a unit this weekend and had to go back to drop more of my belongings today and wow! What great security! First you have to check in, fill out a form (date, name, vehicle information, unit number, signature, etc.), and they give you a small cone with a designated number, which you either have to show in your dash or in front of or behind your vehicle. Then for your personal unit, someone will open the first lock for you, allowing you access to your other lock with your key. Just to use the elevators, you have to use a speaker to communicate with the office personnel and, finally, my favorite -SMILE, YOU'RE ON CAMERA. Yup, no fishy business would fly here! Really comforting to know there are at least two people on duty, supervising the premises. LOVE. Moral of the story, boys and girls: If you need a storage unit consider this HUGE self-storage place; they are willing to accommodate you. read more

Face it... moving sucks. Especially when you are downsizing and don't have room for all your crap, err, I mean "treasured possessions." But let me tell you, Morena Self Storage definitely made things a whole lot easier! I called ahead of time to make an appointment, and they had pretty much the whole weekend available. Perfect. I showed up, filled out some brief paperwork, and was immediately driving off in one of their trucks, with one of their helpers running shotgun. (Note, YOU drive the truck... the helper is just there to help with loading and unloading). When I arrived at home with the truck, the "helper" grabbed a dolly and started loading the truck up right away. Honestly, he did almost all the work himself, and I was just helping him as much as I could. Once everything was loaded, he tied it down and off we went back to the storage facility. Next I filled out the remainder of the paperwork, while the helper unloaded all of the stuff in the truck and moved it right into the storage room for me. I didn't have as much stuff as I originally anticipated, so they switched me to a smaller room, which saves me a lot of money on the monthly charge. They gave me a key to the lock, I locked things up, and we were done. Piece of cake. The only thing more that I could possibly wish for is just later hours, since they close at 6:00pm and I can't go after work. But I shouldn't really be going in and out that often, so I can easily plan accordingly. By the way, you can cancel your contract and remove your stuff at any time, which is really nice too.
