They were polite and professional over the phone, discussed security measures in place to ensure I was authorized to request the service. The technician arrived earlier than quoted. This place came highly recommended. They came out right away and the technician was great. I would have been a happy customer, had I not reviewed my invoice after I paid it. When I called and asked about appointments/pricing, I was told the service call was $150 or $180. Once reviewing the invoice, the service call was $225. I texted to inquire about the difference. No response from the business for 4 days. I finally had to call and after 3 follow-ups finally spoke with Sue (or Susy) and she listened to my original call and called me back. She stated that they do charge 150 for a service call but the 225 also includes labor, although all services are listed as separate line items. She also stated that the invoice should have been more for the length of time the tech was at my house. I had a lengthy conversation when I set up the appointment AND sent pictures of the locks prior to the appointment. I was very transparent on my end, they clearly were not. If there was a additional charge for labor that should have communicated at the time of the appt was set up. If there should have been an additional fee for a longer appointment, that should have communicated at the time the appointment was set. If labor is a separate charge, they may want to consider listing it as a separate line item on the invoice or at least tell the customer that during the price quoting process. If you like surprise charges, lack of transparency and poor customer service, this is your place! read more

Had them come out to fix a stuck flush bolt. Not only did they simply leave without fixing anything, they actually didn't even put the latch mechanism fully back together and walked off with several of the screws! I guess at least they didn't charge us for the privilege but still. Tried to follow up with them (repeatedly) to get a replacement tech and they never called back. They saved me a small fortune on a key fob replacement! The dealer was going to charge me upwards of $300 for a new fob. The issue I was having was after replacing a battery, the fob would start the car but none of the buttons worked. I had two fobs with this issue. Rob went through the troubleshooting process he uses, and full replacement is a last resort Turns out the BUTTON PAD on one of the fobs went bad (as they do from use). There was a small break in the circuitry in the other board Long story short, a $16 pad got me a fully functional pad. Rob said hang on to the other board since it would start the car in a pinch but it would need to be replaced if I wanted button functionality. Long story short, the store looks like a place that would be limited to repairing your 80-year-old lock on a home in Beverly, but they do work with computerized chips as well. read more

This place is super cool. Been here since the 60s and probably has not changed much since then. I'm glad places like this can survive today. Ace hardware and Menards can only make basic house keys for you. They never have the right stock for file cabinets, padlocks , gate locks etc. This place has never let me down, even with weird and old keys I need copies of. They deserve to beat out the big places because they know their stuff. Not a computer in sight either. Super cool. read more

Great experience with Morgan Locksmith! Stopped in because I was in the area and needed to replace a broken key. The key was in two pieces, but Morgan was able to make a copy of the key, which worked perfectly! I was in and out in five minutes. The new key was about $5.00. It is a proper locksmith shop, so they have all sorts of lock and door parts that a big hardware store likely wouldn't have. I also prefer to support small, local business when possible and Morgan Locksmith is definitely that! read more

My 2012 Chevrolet Cruze key broke. I went EVERYWHERE I possibly could to get a new key. I even went to the dealership who told me that it would cost $800 to get a new key and chip (which would come in a week). I came to Morgan Locksmith as a last resort. Here, I got help right away. They explained everything to me throughly. They told me how to program the key and gave me tons of information I didn't know. I got two sets of keys the SAME DAY with chips included and went about my day. I only paid $200 for the whole service and it took less than 30 minutes. STEER CLEAR!!!! You will be robbed!!! These people are not honest and they don't stand behind their work. I needed duplicate keys made for two of my file cabinets at work. I spoke with the owner, Bob, who assured me that as long as I had the correct code from the file cabinet, the keys they made would work. I came there and waited for an hour to get two file cabinet keys - which cost me $80. I found out later I could have paid $30 for these same two keys at a locksmith in Blue Island. The kicker is the keys DID NOT WORK!!! After returning to the shop to have them "re-file" them they STILL DID NOT WORK. He then convinced me to by a $5.00 bottle of WD-40, telling me that would help the case. it STILL DID NOT WORK. They refused to give me a refund, and each time I call a younger guy would answer and tell me the owner was not available. I could have easily went to a True Value or Home Depot or a Locksmith in the neighborhood, where I work but I wanted to support a small business which had been in my neighborhood for years. Just bought a 100 yr old door (at a salvage yard) for my 100 yr old house in the Beverly neighborhood and decided to use Morgan Locksmith to rekey and rehab the original mortise lock. It was expensive but the young man who did most of the work - Jim - was competent. When I returned to have the spindle cut down (as per JIM'S instructions) another gentleman who works at Morgan Locksmith -BILL - told me it wasn't necessary to cut the spindle, he didn't want to look at the pictures I took and I quote "...go get yourself a man to help you." Yes I'm a woman and yes the spindle needs to be cut down. Because Marty and the DeLorean forgot to bring Morgan Locksmith back to the future, I paid almost $200 to be insulted. Still can't use the lock. Bill - it's not the Big Box Stores that are putting you out of business, it's your "winning" personality and your dark, dusty store with it's 50 year old merchandise.
