An amazing Matcha spot has taken over the location where a prominent kimbap place used to be, and to be honest, I'm really liking it! Situated in Avenue One is Mori's, a place recommended to me by a friend who is a Matcha connoisseur. In fact, when I walked in, I immediately saw the cans of matcha she prepares on the shelf! They definitely know what they are doing. A small place, there isn't much seating except for a raised bar, and a few chairs outside, but you can walk up a few feet and get to a shared patio for all the restaurants. I had the blueberry matcha, and wow. Flavor was on point. I did 100% sweetness just to gauge their levels, even though it was pointed out that 50% is normal... And 100% tastes a bit too sweet for me. I will have to try the 50% or 25% next time. There is food, but we did not order any (this was an after lunch destination!) Mori's is the kind of coffee shop you instantly want to come back to. It's super cozy, really clean, and has the nicest staff. I tried their ceremonial matcha and loved that it's customizable. You can pick your milk and sweetness level which is perfect if you like your matcha a certain way. I also got their house coffee and it was smooth and rich with no bitterness. For food, I ordered the egg sandwich and the chicken caesar salad and both were delicious. The egg sandwich was fluffy and flavorful and the salad was super fresh with the perfect amount of dressing. They have kind staff who are very helpful and detailed in explaining the drinks. One of them (pink hair girl and girl in the green shirt) even offered to remake my drink due to an error. However, the taste of the food and drinks are enough to make me not want to come back. I have ordered the double matcha 3 times now and each time the foam has such a sour smell. The garlic chicken breast bowl is also extremely dry. I do also wish their kiosk allowed customizations on their Guava Latte. I do not like the foam on that drink as it is also sour in a way that the foam tastes as if it's going bad but there is no option to remove the foam on that drink compared to the others. Their granola on the banana cream does create an odd texture on the drink so I would recommend removing it. I would like to update and say I came back in today to order it again and seems like the two same girls (Lili/minh) were working. I had let them know my concerns from last time and they were able to recommend a different drink for me which I did like. They also offered to make it for free which was very generous and I appreciate that a lot. However, the food is still subpar, I would recommend going somewhere else for food. It is quite expensive for the portion and the price you pay. The amount of beef given is so small to cost $20 for the bowl. read more

I got the Uji matcha, 50% sweet, rich version with lactose free whole milk. I would have preferred oatmilk by default however they charge an additional $1 for it, which is honestly robbery to me. I make matcha lattes myself at home daily and have tried a number of high end matcha powder brands including marukyu koyamaen but this fell really short of my expectations. The drink itself is very powdery/chalky tasting. It's not smooth at all. Despite opting for the rich version, nothing about it was rich at all. It wasn't creamy. I don't know if it's because they didn't mix it well or if it's because they use low quality matcha that it is so chalky tasting. Despite them claiming to use marukyu koyamaen, they also do not specify which one they are using. I also cannot find this anywhere. Just discovered this incredible matcha spot near UCI and I had to share because WOW! Came in and tried their Uji Rich Matcha Latte, Crème Brûlée Matcha Swirl, and Cloudy Matcha - you can immediately taste that they're using ceremonial grade matcha sourced directly from Uji, Japan. The quality difference is so noticeable compared to other places! But what absolutely blew my mind was their HANDCRAFT TARO situation. They literally steam and crush real taro and ube by hand in-house, then mix it with milk. You can actually taste the tiny taro bites in every single sip! It's completely different from those places that just use artificial taro powder - this is the real deal and you can tell they put so much care into making it fresh. The matcha has a grassier so keep that in mind since it's not everyone's cup of tea. Both lattes were very watered down in my opinion. It must be dangerous to live so close to Mori's. Mori's is one of several businesses attached to an Irvine apartment. This spot had been on my radar for a while, but I never visited because I feared a complicated parking situation. At 2pm on a Wednesday, a 30-minute parking spot was very easy to snag. There's about 15 spots available for guests, but I could imagine they fills up fast in peak meal periods. While this place serves up a variety of caffeinated beverages, their speciality is definitely matcha. They serve iced matcha lattes in ways that I've never experienced before - I have to return to try the taroberry matcha! I ordered the double matcha at regular sweetness. This was a classic matcha with matcha cold foam on top. Superb. What really shocked me was their food. I don't typically go to a coffee shop expecting a meal, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try their Garlic Chicken bowl. This included grain rice, broccolini, bean sprouts, celery, and carrot salad. Topped off with thick slices of chicken breast and sesame aioli. I only got drinks this time--went with the double matcha and the strawberry matcha. The double matcha was honestly really solid, definitely a 9/10 for me. My friends and I decided to stop by mori's after hearing how good their matcha is. I would say if you enjoy the bitter taste of matcha, then this place is right for you. Instead of the creamy and sweet taste that some places focus on, they try to focus on that bitter element instead imo. My only complaint is that instead of using normal milk they use lactose free milk, so it definitely loses out some flavor for me. It's nice that they provide it but I wish it was there for a secondary option instead of the main option! The service was great, and have no complaints about it, and the area around Moro is very modern and sleek. I had heard of this new restaurant serving marukyu koyamaen matcha and as a certified matcha girly I had to visit. It's a small store (more of a grab and go), but they had an extensive drink and food menu. I appreciated all the food options (def expensive but it's Irvine so can't judge ), and I got the soba. The food was fresh (I just poured a little too much of the sauce so the rest of my meal became super tangy but that's on me), and I got the extra rich matcha and it was justttt like I like it! MOri's is on a roll with their quick and hearty bowls. Swung by around noon to grab their Honey and Spicy Chicken Thigh Bowl. The little shop was clean and bright, with many informational displays about the different types of drinks they offer. There's a self service utensils station on the left wall. Since I grew up eating brown rice and purple rice, it's a welcome sight to see it in more restaurants nowadays. The purple rice helps balance out the brown rice. The chicken thigh was nice and tender and fits perfectly well with the sesame aioli sauce. The roasted veggies were fragrant with a slightly toasted oil flavor that pairs well with rice.
