We made a late reservation on a Monday night & were seated promptly at the sushi bar. It was at the end of it with not the greatest view of the restaurant or chefs at work (that's a part of why you sit at the sushi bar right??) Food was served & a delight to eat. Small portions but reasonable for the Napa eatery experience. Waiter was helpful & water was poured over and over again. They even left us a carafe! The location of the restaurant is amazing & afforded us the opportunity to explore the Riverfront area at night & then we went back the next day. Who knew Napa had a river running through the downtown area and charming riverfront?? Probably just locals. Delicious! We had a reservation for a group of 4 on a Tuesday evening. We were seated immediately and served water right away and guided to use the QR code to view the menu. Our server actually helped us pick out our sake bottle and it was a great choice. We ordered: Halkaisan (sake), Hamachi Tacos, Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, Tuna Pizza, Toro Tartare, ebi nigiris, wagyu nigiris, angry chicken, and a buri bop. This was an acceptable amount of food for 4 people. We didn't leave stuffed, but very content with our meal. The food quality was amazing, and and pricing wise it is definitely fine dining. It's approximately $100 a person. The hamachi tartare was such a fun and unique experience! You get to try it with 6 different flavors...??? But last night's was the tail end of it and it was thin and not much to eat and for $43 and that was the only thing on the plate, I wouldn't get it again. My boyfriend and I were in Napa celebrating his birthday and one of my best friends recommended we eat here because she knows how much we love seafood. This place is beautiful with a beautiful view of the Napa River. I'm glad we got to try this place while visiting. Food was very good but not great. A few of the nigiri were missing toppings to complement the pieces, and the sushi seemed to be just placed on the plate with no style. It's no Uchi or Uchiko. The ribs were fall off the bone, the sushi tasted fresh, loved the spicy hamachi, the cod was cooked perfectly with the perfect complementing sauce, and the s'mores was the best dessert ever. The Saigon gimlet was crisp and strong. I wanted the casual encounter but they were out of ginger liqueur. I also wanted to try the cheesecake soufflé but they were out of that also. I would like to go with a big group next time so I can order more things to share and try. This place is very pricey though so come ready to spend. $200 for a beer, cocktail, a sushi roll, 2 nigiri, appetizer ribs, cod, and 2 s'mores desserts. I'll admit it: I'm a major Morimoto fan. I've been to his restaurants in three other locations, and I was excited to visit this one. It did not disappoint! I started with the Tempura Calamari Salad, which paired delicious fried calamari with greens and quinoa in a white miso dressing. The salad struck just the right balance of salt and acid, and the greens kept it from feeling like a heavy appetizer. My parents got the crispy brussels sprouts with sweet soy, dates, and fresno peppers, while my sister got the miso soup, which was another excellent choice. All our appetizers set the stage for some gorgeous and sumptuous entrees. My sister and parents all got the Ishi Yaki Buri Bop, in which yellowtail is served on rice and cooked tableside in a hot stone bowl. The fish, vegetables, and rice create an amazing aroma as they cook, and they absolutely deliver on the flavor that the fragrance promises. I got the Seafood Tobanyaki, a seafood feast of lobster, mussels, clams, and sea scallops in spicy red miso broth. It was phenomenal. The broth is quietly spicy, allowing both the flavors of the seafood and the miso to shine. Every single bite of this dish is gastronomic heaven. We finished the meal with the S'more, a playful adaptation of the campfire treat that brings ice cream and soy into the mix with the traditional graham cracker, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow. The flavors were simultaneously familiar and surprising, and the dessert juxtaposed hot and cold in a fun way. I would absolutely get every dish of this meal again! read more

They just brought back the toro tartare, and unfortunately no Alaskan king crab to be had during this visit. - Mango matcha punch ($16): Heavy on the mango, not so much matcha, kinda thick upon arrival. We thought it was better after we let the ice melt a bit. 3/5 - Wagyu carpaccio ($24): To die for! It was seriously melt in your mouth. We both agreed this was our fave. A must get! 5/5 - Toro tartare ($31): A bit of a novelty. Beautiful presentation, unique and tasty. 4/5 - Rock shrimp tempura ($21): Both the wasabi (less so) and kochujang (more so) had a good spicy kick to them with a light, crunchy batter. 4/5 - Kakuni pork belly ($17): Braised ten hours, you wouldn't expect anything less than fatty, fall apart goodness, and it totally delivered. 4/5 Chadwick and team took excellent care of us. Probably one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in the Napa and surrounding areas. Talk about QUALITY and a well rounded DELICIOUS menu. I've been here twice. Once with my husband and once with a group of girlfriends, and both times we're both amazing experiences and the food was so good I still dream about it. We went here for our Anniversary. We made a reservation. It's weird in Napa. Some places still have signs up to wear masks so you don't know if it's old or not until you go in and see that only the workers are wearing masks. We were seated at our table after a couple of minutes. The place is fairly big. with indoor and outdoor seating. I heard you have a view of the river from the patio seating but we didn't go out there. The cell service is really spotty in the restaurant. There is no password for their wifi but I couldn't log into it for some reason. The server said that happens a lot. Don't know why they don't fix it then. I asked the server for some recommendations but he more or less said everything is good and it all depends on your taste. I was thinking that is not helping me at all. We started off with the ahi tacos because I was starving and wanted something right away. I started out with the Sake flight , the koshu flight. It had sake that was aged 5, 10 and 30 years which I have never tasted or even heard of. Some of them where looking like scotch , they were a light brown color which was totally strange to me. The taste was definitely different. I don't know how to explain it but it was unique. Not sure I need to get it again but glad I tried it. I saw the Japanese whiskey cart as we walked in and I love that. The server was great with helping me pick out a whiskey. He brought the cart to our table and had the price list . He went over the whiskeys that I had questions on. He knew a little bit about the whiskeys and I was happy about that. I ended up getting the Kaiyo The Sherry. OMG it was amazing and I will have to get a bottle. Loved it. Got the sticky ribs which had nice flavor and fell off the bone. Some Unagi which was ok I have had better. My wife got the pork chops which was good but a little tough. I got the blacken cod which was very good. Almost as good as Roy's butterfish. The duck fried rice was just ok. We got duck fries to. We got the Japanese cheesecake for dessert and yummy. All in all it was ok. We had fun but we expected more from Morimoto especially since we travelled a bit to get here. read more

This was my first time ever going to one of Morimoto's restaurants. Not pictured but a must order would be the tuna tacos and their wagyu. The tuna tacos were very fresh, as they didn't drown it in sriracha mayo, they let the fish do the work. The wagyu was like butter and it was marinated so well. We ordered a chef's choice nigiri/maki platter-we requested for no mackerel but they were very busy that night so the request was forgotten and so was our wagyu, it not fired up and delivered to the table until we were already stuffed. They were a little unorganized as we had dishes delivered to us that we hadn't ordered and some of our dishes forgotten. For dessert we had this melting chocolate bomb, it was super yummy, no complaints there. 3 stars because you're really paying for the Morimoto name. I've had very high quality sushi at smaller restaurants that have more attentive servers and didn't cost $400 for two people (tip included). I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to say you ate at Morimoto Napa but I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had. read more

i'm sorry to say, it was so loud in the dining room it was literally painful, making for a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. we had to shout across the table to hear each other. even the waiter was drowned out by the crowd. everyone else must have had the same problem because people were actually screeching to be heard. concrete floors, and hard surfaces everywhere magnified the din. food was not as stellar as i had expected because of the famous morimoto from the food network's hype. nothing out of the ordinary. the fish was surprisingly fishy in some of dishes. the plating artistry was lacking in creativity, e.g. offering 3 lonely black beans on the side for garnish. after living in Japan and expecting way more grace, this seemed to be an unsuccessful clash between lazy american food in over-sweet sauces and the expected pristine skill of true japanese chefs. save your $500. read more

4.5 stars. Great food, inventive presentation. Some of it is so simple, like the pork ramen - served in purist form - perfect execution though. Some of it is extra fancy like the sashimi platter. The quality shines through. The restaurant is gorgeous. I love the high ceilings and the tables and benches. The slight critique is the service. We are big fans of chef morimoto and so of course we had to come to the napa restaurant. The restaurant is elegant and the food is delicious. Definitely coming back here next time we are in the area. The food: HAMACHI TACOS (3 pieces for $15) small but tasty. The taco shell is crispy and not what I expected. The fish was fresh and super tasty. It came with guacamole in it too. WAGYU BEEF CARPACCIO $24 so yummy. Totally worth it. Didn't taste raw at all and the hot sesame oil it was on was so delicious we were scraping the meat on the plate to get more of it. STICKY RIBS (3 pieces for $16) was okay. The ones in Florida are so good that we are a bit disappointed it doesn't taste the same here and in Hawaii. Wonder if they have different recipes for the same thing. KAKUNI $17 pork belly on porridge. The pork was a little too salty for my taste and the porridge tasteless. Sorry but regretted buying this one. PORK CHASHU RAMEN $22 normally I prefer tonkotsu broth to clear broth but this ramen grew on me because of the ramen noodle (al dente) & the chashu (tender & melt-in-your mouth goodness) DUCK FAT FRENCH FRIES $12 super crispy and delicious. Wasn't a fan of the bbq sauce but the fries were good enough by itself. DUCK CONFIT FRIED RICE $12 was okay. It's good if u need to eat rice with the rest of your meal. S'MORE $14 Tip: MUST GET! It's very unique and so so delicious. It has graham cracker ice cream with toasted marshmallow on top and then hazelnut chocolate at the bottom. I am so disappointed with this place. I thought if anything with Morimoto in the name would have been above anything I've experienced in a good way. Firstly, when my friends and I walked in we weren't sure it was the entrance. There was no hostess or even an area where you would expect to see a hostess. We were so confused we literally walked around the entire building. Then although we had a waitress to take our drink orders and food orders, there were so many different people at our table we weren't sure who was our actual waiter. Carrying a conversation was difficult. Could barely hear whoever was across from me. Even the couple next to us said they had to move one of the chairs around so they could hear each other. I didn't even know there was music playing in the background until more than half of the diners left The cooked sushi was cold and the raw sushi was warm. And lastly the waitress at the end of the meal told us they didn't split checks. And we couldn't tell if she was serious or kidding because she was kidding around with us earlier in the night. I've always had a great time coming to Morimoto Napa. Been here a few different times now but this is the first time I have taken the time to describe my experience at the restaurant. Started off the meal with a Tempura calamari salad and pork belly appetizer for the table. The salad was a refreshing beginning to the meal. Dressing was subtle and the tempura calamari added a great crunch to bring the dish together. The pork belly was on the heavier side, but the dish was too good to turn down. The meat just melts and when consumed with the rice congee, it just reminds me of comfort food from my mother's kitchen. I ordered the Chef's Sashimi Combination but my girlfriend ordered the Pork Chashu Ramen. The Sashimi cuts were all excellent. My favorite was the yellow tail. To bring the dish together, I ordered hot sake. Can't think of a better combo to go with this dish. The Pork Chashu Ramen was solid. I didn't eat a lot of it, but the little bit I did try was great. The meal was finished off with fruit sorbet. I can't remember the actual flavors but overall, it was a nice refreshing way to finish the meal. My friend took me here as a surprise for my birthday. Walking into the restaurant, there is a cozy lounging area by the bar which is also a good place to wait before being seated. I didn't realize how big the restaurant was until we got seated in the back. We ordered: Morimoto Sake Junmai: I usually don't drink but I made an exception for this smooth and delicate tasting sake that went well with the meal. Ishi yaki buri bop (yellowtail on rice cooked tableside in hot stone): This was so good. The server coked rice, yellowtail, organic egg and soy sauce in the hot stone and the rice on the sides got nice and crunchy. This was super flavorful and was my favorite dish. Chef combination sashimi: I believe our sashimi dish came with maguro, sake. unagi, hamachi, hirame, kanpachi, tai and hotate. Everything was fresh and beautifully plated. Banana Ice Cream: This was really creamy and not too sweet. It also had crunchy bits and we inhaled this immediately! Service was attentive and not intrusive. Even when the restaurant filled up our server made sure to check on us. I enjoyed my birthday surprise at Morimoto Napa. Being a total foodie, going to Iron Chef Morimoto's is like a pilgrimage...I was crossing my fingers (and toes) that the restaurant was not just a "name brand" and the food would be "meh". I'm happy to report this restaurant lives up to the chef's name. I've never eaten a dish with, basically, a putty knife tool, but the toro tartare was literally the best thing I believe I've ever eaten. Trust me - this is a MUST have order. We had some standard hamachi and unagi sushi - we should have ordered the uni because Morimoto's must get the best of the best of the sea with their vendors. Fresh uni is the best! Maybe next time... We didn't go deep into the drinks menu - both of us had a Morimotini which was very nice. If you check out the menu, you can see I could eat there every week. I don't live in Napa proper so I'll just have to make the journey each time I visit. I will definitely update my review after the next visit - go there hungry!!! read more

Food was delicious, drinks were good, service was fantastic and the atmosphere is lively, fun and modern with an Asian twist. Our waiter was excellent. Funny and attentive and knew the menu well. I came with a group of four on a Sunday afternoon before wine tasting. We made a reservation a couple days in advance. Be prepared with your proof of vaccination and ID. They'll check at the front desk. I was so excited to eat at the Iron Chef Morimoto's restaurant. I remember watching in Japanese as a kid with my grandma so certainly some nostalgia walking into the restaurant and seeing Morimoto's photo on the wall. My favorite piece of decor were the Chasen (bamboo matcha whisk) inspired lamps throughout the restaurant. There are tables outside with heat lamps but we felt comfortable eating inside since they are checking vaccine cards. The high ceilings and minimalist decor make the space feel airy and modern. We started with the chef's choice sushi combo that came with two rolls and I think 18 pieces of nigiri. It was the perfect amount for 4 people. I couldn't really hear our waiter describe which fish we were served but it was all delicious and fresh. For the price, I would expect excellent sushi and I've honestly had better quality fish in Sao Paulo of all places. We ordered three entrees and shared family style so we could all try every dish. We tried the ishi yaki buri bop, morimoto pork chop and braised black cod. The black cod was the unanimous favorite at our table. The cod was light and flakey and paired perfectly with the ginger-miso reduction. The pork chop was delicious. Nice and fatty, cooked to perfection. The ishi yaki buri bop was flavorful and filling, a nice twist on bibimbap. It comes in an extremely hot pot and they sear the yellowtail on the sides and mix up the rice at the table. We could have done without the duck fat fries. They weren't any better than fries you get a nice burger spot. Still tasty though. We didn't order many drinks because we were going wine tasting after lunch. My soba ale was tasty and paired well with our meal. Light and refreshing. Happy to have tried Morimoto's. I was craving calamari so my Husband took me to this place as it was on the menu. I ordered a calamari salad - it was very delicious. The salads vinaigrette dressing was very good. I was not as impressed with the price. My husband had three different sushi rolls and said he would give them a 6/10. Nothing amazing. We had two very esthetically beautiful drinks but one was a little heavy on the lavender and the other was just strong in alcohol. We paid 120 with tip. Social distancing between tables was maintained. - Rock shrimp tempura: hot and crispy shrimp tempura with 2 flavors. Great way to start the meal. -Duck fat fries: extra crispy. I went there to meet up with a long time friend. I haven't seen him and caught up in YEARS! I get there before him and I go to the host stand and she was quite lovely! She asked if I wanted to wait or be seated so I waited. The lobby was so elegantly decorated with a rustic feel. My friend got there and we were seated right away and the waiter really knew how to read the table to know when to come. He got our drinks and the appetizers, he then came back and I got the spicy yellowtail roll and the spicy tuna roll which were so delicious! It was really a great way to catch up! We tried a few of their appetizers: *wagyu beef carpaccio - fiancé liked it, I didn't it. It was just OK. I've had better *tuna tacos - recommend getting this. It was so good! Everything in it just went well together. *tuna pizza - our waitress recommended this to us and no regrets. Who would have thought tuna pizza would taste great. Definitely would get this again! We also tried a few pieces of sushi. Don't really recommend getting sushi here, it's pretty expensive, prices are by pieces. Maybe worth doing Chef's combination if you're not picky with what fish you get. My fiancé is - ha! This spot is definitely a place to go if you feel like splurging!
