My husband and I went to Napa for my birthday and traveled with my daughter and Nanny. We were looking for the perfect romantic date night with delicious food and Ember popped up as an option. I was so glad that it did. We were also undecided on where to stay hotel wise and when we saw it was at the Meritage, which is great for families, it made sense to book both the hotel and the restaurant. Our daughter just turned four months old, so this was our first date night as new parents and it did not disappoint. For us the convenience of an amazing restaurant on site at a family forward resort was great for peace of mind. We didn't have to go far to have an amazing experience. When we entered Ember the vibes were set. The restaurant is truly stunning and everywhere you look feels like you are observing art. The craft cocktail bar as the center focal point and the tables set up the way they were made for great people watching. It seemed like almost every table was a couple on a date and the energy was definitely upscale and romantic. My husband and I love great food and couldn't help but order almost everything that looked appealing to us. The wagyu nigiri with caviar was mind blowing, so fresh. The oysters were unreal. The tomahawk steak with creamed spinach, and truffle fries did not disappoint. Literally the best steak and sides we've enjoyed in a while. The mushrooms were delicious too. My husband enjoyed his craft cocktail, an Old Fashion and I enjoyed champagne with the starters and a wonderful glass of Grgich cab with the steak. We gave our compliments to the chef who made her appearance tableside, and we enjoyed a wonderful conversation with her. She recommended the baked Alaska, which was made after her grandmother's recipe, and my husband still talks about that dessert to this day. We enjoyed great ambience, impeccable food, and tremendous service. We made reservations 2 days prior and received a phone call one hour before our reservation time, on our way to the restaurant from Yountville, indicating that there's a concert happening at the place. Due to this situation they asked if we're were staying on the property or had tickets to the concert. Which I explained that we are not staying on the property nor did we know about a concert happening. They explained that we can park down the street and they will send a driver to pick us up or drop off our car to valet it to the lot down the street and take us through another entrance since we don't have a ticket to the concert and not staying at the hotel. Needless to say, this is not cool at all. I was looking forward to celebrating my anniversary with my wife there for the past 2 days and we were on our way to the restaurant. Very complicated and felt like we were not welcome since we are not staying at the hotel not knew about concert tickets. Terrible hospitality. Opening in May 2024, Ember Steak is located inside The Meritage Resort and Spa. Probably a red flag (cuz hotel resto) but with a 4.5 star rating, it seemed promising for a special occasion meal. I made rezzies several weeks ahead and choose their patio (staycation with dogs)...but when we arrived, we were told the patio was closed. The hostess checked with the manager and they ended up opening the patio. They kept the shades down in gorgeous 78 degree weather so it was dark and took away from the atmosphere. It was chewy and bland, lacking the rich, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture and deep umami flavor that makes A5 so distinctive. Unfortunately, Ember seems to be the only steakhouse in Napa that serves A5. We ordered: 1 Ribeye (medium) 1 aged dry bone in rib eye (medium rare) Mac and cheese Baked potato Beef tartar First of all there was a hair in my baked potato and I was disgusted but I am not confrontational nor do I ever want to make a huge deal and ruin the experience for others around me. They did not charge me for the baked potatoes of course since I showed them the hair very quietly but that was not the point they should have way more safety around food I mean is that not what your paying for ? Secondly, I ordered my steak medium rare and when I say this steak was rare I mean it was incredibly rare to the point that I could not eat it and I did not eat it. The aged bone in rib eye was not top quality DO NOT ORDER this. Mac and cheese lacked flavor Baked potato was delicious but there was the hair I ate so I wouldn't ever order it again. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I'll admit I came in a bit skeptical. Steakhouses attached to hotels or resorts don't always live up to their pricing, but this one exceeded my expectations. The interior has a cool speakeasy-style vibe. We were seated in the covered outdoor patio, which offered a nice view of the resort courtyard. We arrived right when they opened and were seated immediately. Our server, Nathan, was friendly, attentive, and had a great personality, which made the experience even better. The menu isn't huge, but it covers the essentials well. I ordered the filet mignon, and I asked for it to be cooked to medium. My only real complaint is that the entrees are served à la carte. I think a $75 steak should come with at least one side. That said, when the filet came out, it looked fantastic. It was cooked slightly over medium, but the flavor more than made up for it. We started with the lobster bisque and Parker rolls -- honestly, it might have been the best lobster bisque I've ever had. The rolls were served hot, soft, and absolutely delicious. For entrées, my girlfriend had the roasted salmon steak, and I went with the ribeye with ember bone marrow. She loved her salmon, and my ribeye was perfectly cooked -- rich, flavorful, and beautifully complemented by the bone marrow. We shared a few sides: the twice-baked duchess potato, loaded mac and cheese, and maitake mushrooms. The twice-baked potato was incredible -- probably my favorite thing of the night. Lovely food and very good service. The portions are extremely generous, which as a visitor to the areas does us no good. Considering the level of tourism and that this restaurant is at a resort, you'd think most patrons are not local and would appreciate limited waste with smaller portion sizes as an option. I opted for the special, the lamb, because it was only 8 oz of meat and everything else was more food. I even asked if there was a smaller beef filet option, which there was not. Even if the price is that much lower, I'd still have wanted a 5 oz piece of protein. My husband got the roasted half chicken and perhaps ate a third of it. It was excellent also but again, just too much food and waste. We shared the truffle fries, which were awesome but when they arrived to us were cold. They were still crunchy and appropriately cooked so I did not say anything, especially as we already had plenty and I didn't want more waste. The dessert, Bananas Foster Reimagined, was really fantastic. A highlight. I also ordered a Walnut Old Fashioned. It was just ok. I love Old Fashions and order them most places I go. This one was just ok, maybe it was watered down? The craft ice cube was great but the flavor of the drink just wasn't there. Would I come back? Not sure. Decided to give a new place a try, had a friend in town visiting from Texas, so it was a bit of pressure to deliver a good steak. But ember deliveried! We had a great outdoor table on the patio for our large group of 9. Started off with their sushi appetizer, it was a Maki roll without rice, all kinds of fresh fish, and topped with caviar. My daughter loved the caviar, I told her she needs to get a good job to afford that lol. The kids loved their food, Mac and cheese, half roasted chicken, broccolini. For once we didn't have to nag them to eat! Skillet cornbread. The king salmon was perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside and moist in the middle, not dry at all. Staying at this resort and had heard nothing but great things about the steak restaurant - we tried to reserve but they had nothing until much later in the evening (we arrived the same day so we're booking it only 5-6 hours in advance). We went anyway to try to even sit at the bar - the resto wasn't even 25% full (they said a big group was coming at 7 but we left after 7 and it was only maybe at 50% capacity inside). Our service was excellent but we were disappointed with others aspects - dirty wine glasses and my husband's steak was overcooked despite lots of discussion about how blue he likes it. The server asked him to cut in the middle to check the temperature when it was clear it was overdone. Now...I know he put the right notes to the kitchen and they didn't follow it, but there was no compensation (even partial like a comp'd side dishes) for it. So....good service, decent atmospheric but disappointed about the lack of availability when it was clearly not booked and the poor cooking of a steak (in a steak house where they should be pros at this). The ambiance lighting was great for pics and selfies, if you're a picture taker like me. To the best part-- food: amazing! The Caesar salad with beef was different, light, and refreshing. The tomahawk steak and bone in ribeye were cooked and seasoned to perfection. And let's not forget about the mashed potatoes, so good! Loved the wine and champagne also, it was great. So, if everything was great, why give them 4 stars instead of 5? Glad you asked: the dessert menu was super disappointing. There were only three options and none of them interested me. The molten chocolate lava cake deal is boring, everyone does that, and I'm not a chocolate fan (I know, right.). There was also a passion fruit sorbet, but didn't want that-- it was cold and it's right in the middle of winter. Lastly, there was another dessert that didn't do it either. Where is a classic hot chocolate cookie with vanilla ice cream or the apple tart/crisp with a scoop of vanilla bean? There was nothing like that on the menu and it was disappointing considering I had babysat my calories all day because I knew that I wanted dessert after dinner. Unfortunately, I am writing this constructive review in hopes of helping restaurant management and the executive chef understand that food and ambiance together create a complete dining experience. We dined at Embers this past Friday for the first time. While the food was excellent, the ambient lighting significantly detracted from the evening. The restaurant was excessively bright--more reminiscent of a kitchen or living room with all the lights fully on than a refined steakhouse atmosphere. It was so uncomfortable that I asked the restaurant manager if the lighting could be dimmed. He asked where I was seated and suggested dimming only my table, which would not have addressed the issue. The entire restaurant was overwhelmingly bright. Unfortunately, the lighting was not adjusted, or could not be adjusted, which ultimately ruined the ambiance. It did not feel like a true steakhouse experience, especially considering that many guests were dressed for an upscale evening out. After spending approximately $660 for four people, I strongly recommend that this issue be addressed. The food was outstanding, and our server was exceptional. However, the overall ambiance felt cold and somewhat tacky, which diminished what could have been an excellent dining experience. If Embers aims to compete with other high-end steakhouses in Napa, this detail should be addressed immediately. read more

Incredible dinner for my wife and I at Ember's. Staying here at The Meritage and having a top class restaurant onsite is such a bonus. Nathan was our waiter and extremely helpful and full of personality. We started with the unagi appetizer and the Parker house rolls, which both were excellent. My wife had chilled iceberg salad and I had the Carpaccio ceasar to start. Both very good. Entrees were also over the top. Beautiful filet and I had the aged New York. Both med rare and perfectly cooked. We had sides of Maitake whole roasted mushrooms, a the Potato Pave' mashed potatoes. All staff was very pleasant and always checking on us. Nice wine list. My wife and I ate here - it's the signature steakhouse of the Meritage Resort we were staying at while in Napa. Glad we did, what a great experience! We were seated right away and the staff was friendly, attentive and always available for anything we needed. Our server, Jack, knew the menu very well and helped us make some great selections. We both had the ribeye (medium rare, thank you). I got mine with the 30 year Armagnac and peppercorn sauce and my wife got hers Oscar with Alaskan king crab meat and Hollandaise sauce. I'll tell you what - neither of those sauces came out of a bottle - they were freshly made that day and excellent! We had the potatoes pave and the wilted spinach with our steaks. Also had truffle fries which were a 10! So explore the menu more, they definitely can cook some food there but the steak was just not for me. 3.5... but rounding up for the great service from Anthony. My husband and I stayed at the Meritage Resort to celebrate our wedding anniversary, so decided to give Ember a try. We had a 7:00pm reservation and it just so happened to be a night during one of their Blue Note Summer Note Nights, so we had some fun entertainment during our dinner. Was a bit loud and distracting and even sitting inside, it was hard to keep conversation. Our server Anthony was phenomenal. I feel like it's tough to find excellent service nowadays, so I'm glad we had Anthony. He was so friendly and great. He was new (Ember hasn't been open that long), but was very knowledgeable about the menu. The food overall was great. You can tell they haven't been around long and are still working out some kinks like any new restaurant, but I would definitely go back. One thing that did suck was we wanted to order the parker house rolls and were told they were sold out. At 7pm! Dinner tonight was, simply put, disappointing. We went prepared to have a slightly extravagant dinner but a an extremely good one as well. Sadly the food fell far short of that mark My bone in rib eye may have been "aged" but in my opinion it was not worth its cost and in fact not as good as my wife's regular rib eye. I'm convinced the dry aged is in reality shriveled and tougher meat. Ok, meat aside the fact that you get nothing other than some cherry tomatoes served with your entrees leaves it to your side dishes to fill in . My potato mousse was good but my wife's mushroom side dish was unappealing even for a mushroom lover. Overall we left with no desire whatsoever to ever return. read more

The night we had dinner at Ember the menu was prix fixe and there only a few options for entree ( New York strip , chicken , or catch of the day) and salad ( Caesar or Wedge). There were no options for sides , wilted spinach and pommes purée The appetizer was beef tartare no other options and same for the dessert a chocolate lava cake with ice cream. My first impressions were that it's a small restaurant but very nice facing a stage. Seating inside or patio. The service was really wonderful!! I didn't like my table it was right in front of the door ugh I saw everyone outside and everyone that entered and exited. Now the food ... All very good. Appetizer I didn't care for at all Beef tartare but the salads were both fresh and delicious. The New York strip cooked to perfection. The half roasted chicken so so good. Spinach was ok but the presentation was so beautiful and the pommes were the best I've ever tasted dining out I believe it was truffle pommes mashed. The best of all the Lava Cake with ice cream ... so decadent but the ice cream tasted like grandpa made it. It was divine , my grandpa could make the best ice cream ever !!! Overall I had a very memorable experience and would def return hoping to have an opportunity to order from their regular menu. I would say if you've never been please go and try it !!! read more

This place is located on the Meritage Resort property. It's a little out of the way from all the popular Napa spots but it's well worth it. The space is beautiful but it's not very big. Make sure you make reservations ahead of time. There's also patio seating if being outdoors is more your thing. I ordered the rib eye with crab & asparagus, mashed potatoes, and truffle fries. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was attentive without being intrusive. My water was always being checked and filled. Gotta love that! I visited with my girlfriends while we stayed at Vino Bello. It was nice to have a fine dining experience so close to the hotel. If you're staying at the nearby hotels, Ember Steak is a wonderful option. read more

We are locals, we went to see Boz Skaggs and decided to treat ourselves by staying at the Venue where he was performing. We were looking forward to eating at The Ember Steak Restaurant, it was expensive and nothing special, we were so disappointed . We ordered filets that were average. The beet salad was literally beets cut into 6 very small pieces with frisée as a garnish , toasted pistachios, no dressing (just dry.) It was hard to fathom they would serve it to share with my husband and I. The mashed potatoes were like a soup, very unappetizing. It was unorganized and understaffed. Sad to have to give such a poor review, just not worth the experience. read more

We had reservations for patio seating but when we arrived the host asked if we would like another option since there was a large loud party on the patio. I thought that was very considerate. They held a secluded side table inside for us just in case! The service was amazing and we loved everything the waiter recommended! The sautéed mushrooms were my absolute favorite side with the filet mignon! We will be back! read more

Amazing place, service was fantastic, classy ambiance, but not pretentious, the food was 10/10, best restaurant at the Meritage by far. The A5 Wagyu, Mosaic Roll and the dry aged ribeye were some of the best tasting things we've had around Napa. We'll be back. read more
