Came for a birthday trip with reservations.reservations highly recommended. Inside and outdoor seating. Beautiful waiting area and clean bathrooms. Service from the host, servers, and bussers went above and beyond. Honestly, couldn't remember what was ordered, but we ordered more than enough. Every dish was delicious and the wagyu and fish quality was great. The drinks were also strong but delicious. I believe I order the Love Spell twice. The price reflects the location, crowd and quality so we weren't too shocked at the bill. Will definitely be back!
Everything is so excellent here. The service is outstanding and we were so honored to be able to try so much amazing food with Chef Kevin! Offerings that were particularly outstanding - Aburi nigiri - a must order. I love when sushi is seared slightly and the flavors were all sooo amazing. - Uni chawanmushi and crab roll - what an excellent combination of textures and flavors. This was extremely delicious. The dashi of the chawanmushi was made from the claws of dungeness crab and you could tell every bit was very ocean forward. The egg was perfectly soft and the crab roll was also rich and buttery with fresh crab. - nigiri - all around delicious. The uni and amberjack were my favorites. - A5 Wagyu - what a treat! The meat was so fatty and buttery and being able to sear it on the hot stone was so fun and delicious! - the miso soup - housemade tofu was so silky smooth and the broth was really great. - Wagyu seared and potsticker - both excellent! Great flavor and quality.
Morimoto is on my "go to" list every time I go to Napa as I can usually count on some great sushi, and tasty drinks but the service here is hit or miss. Usually I give the service a pass as long as we get what we want but on this visit, the service was really off. Our server came over once to take our order, and the rest of the night we were flagging down anyone we could to get more water, tell someone an order didn't show up, to try to get another drink. What the heck? At one point a manager came over and we said we were having trouble getting what we needed but even though he sent the guy over with water, we continued to search for our server. The sushi is still good, the ambiance continues to be loud, and we had a great seat by the windows, but my friends were disappointed and I felt bad as I was the one who recommended the place. There are plenty of other places to eat in Napa. Based on this visit, I may have to think of another place to bring people when I come to town. I hate disappointing my friends!
Our NYE meal was so fun. We went here and had a nice meal. The food was relatively good. Some items could you a bit more flavor, like the halibut we ordered. The standouts were the 15-layer cheesecake with miso-infused caramel, and the delicious hamachi. The service was pretty on-point for NYE. There were some issues, like missing an item that we ordered. We felt like we were at a celebration with big groups of guests wearing so much sequence to happy couples like us getting a special meal. I would come back or try Morimoto's other restaurant locations!
Great dinner at Morimoto! We had the fried rice, shrimp tempura, California roll, short ribs, surf and turf, grilled salmon, and the halibut. Everything was delicious, but the halibut was definitely my favorite. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was great. We'll definitely be back! Big thanks to our sever Oman!
This restaurant looks very confused. Based on the menu and the decor, it feels like its trying to be a more upscale restaurant, but how much seating it has makes it feel more like a diner. As such, it was extremely noisy and you could see that couples on dates had a hard time even talking to one another, and eventually just stopped. I could barely hear my wife talking next to me. Most of the servers would even have to lean in to hear the orders. As for the food, nothing really stood out. We ordered a large variety as we were a group of 10 eating family style and nothing really stood out. The quality of the food I would say was akin to fast food or mall food court level, but you're paying 3 times as much. The price belied the food quality. For example, 3 small pieces of ribs as an appetizer for more than $30, I'd expect it to be uniquely spiced, flavorful and juicy, but it was rather dry and tasted as like sauce from Panda Express. Their Wagyu beef carpaccio had too many strong flavors so the taste of the beef itself was lost. Heck, it didn't even really have the notable creamy-like texture that wagyu was supposed to have either (likely a lower grade of wagyu, probably somewhere between USDA Choice and Prime). A lot of their items feel gimmicky too: the unagi clay pot came with some seaweed, a seaweed holder, and two small bottles of sauces. The sauces were bland and contributed nothing to the dish. Making your own "hand rolls" with the seaweed did nothing for this dish other than get your hands dirty. I've watched enough Iron Chef back in the day to understand that this is very Morimoto, as he tries to make the dishes fun. The unagi itself was quite nice, though it might be my personal bias. The Halibut we got was overcooked and dry. Yes halibut is a firmer meat, but man this was hard to eat. The best dish was likely the Ishiyaki Buri Bop, which came with some tables idea theatrics. Nevertheless, for the price, you could do much better at a place like Kunjip Tofu in the bay. Overall, a bad experience. Based on the price point, I thought we'd be getting better food and better ambience, but it was overall mediocre - a blemish on the Morimoto name.
This was our second time enjoying a lovely dinner at Morimoto. Shishito peppers, sashimi tray, duck confit fried rice, and braised black cod were absolutely delicious. Shout out to our server, Brooke, who provided excellent service. Looking forward to our next time and the many items we still want to try.
Had an ambient dinner for our first meal of our Napa Trip. 5 minute uber from our hotel. The entrance is so artsy and well designed. Feels like someone's home living room area. Took awhile to get seated even tho we had a reservation but got to enjoy the waiting area. Finally got seated and the ambiance of the dining room is so beautiful full of vibrant energy and nice decor. Our server came and gave us nice recommendations. We ordered the edamame, aburi sushi 4 ways, clam & tofu miso, and 2 autumn fish offerings and the $60 sushi chef combo. Our edamame and miso soups came out one after the other shortly. The edamame was warm and perfectly cooked. My clam miso soup was full of clam but the soup was salty. The wait to get our sushi orders of the aburi and our chef combo was a very very long wait i think 45 mins to an hour so we decided to order drinks. The fruity drink i was given was nice and refreshing. Friend also got the waygu old fashioned and enjoyed it. Finally got the aburi and they fired two out of the three in front of me. My fav was the A5 japanese waygu melt in ur mouth! The toro was good as well but too much mayo on top. The other two were good too but not warm like im used to getting at other sushi places. Usually they torch and u get it right away for everything. The sushi combo took another 30mins or longer to come out, i saw other tables getting sushi plates before us who arrived later. Not the best feeling. The sushi was alright. I liked our hamachi roll, and there were a few choice pieces i liked like the tuna and some unique pieces. But also pieces that were not good and did not taste fresh. We got the chocolate sphere for dessert which is fun bc they pour flaming vermouth ontop of the chocolate sphere and it melts. It was tasty some parts too vermouth-y and bitter but the middle with the ice cream is very good. Overall the ambiance was nice but the wait and quality of fish was not up to par and would not recommend.
My husband and I really enjoyed all of the food we ordered, and we left very full! They were very nice with giving us a dessert to celebrate us being on our honeymoon. We liked sitting outside next to the river. Service did get a bit slow towards the last 1/3 of our meal. We visited on a Tuesday so perhaps it was an unplanned busy weeknight? All in all it was a positive dining experience.

My boyfriend and I were craving sushi and decided to go to Morimoto for lunch. No reservation, but only a 15-minute wait. Our server was fantastic! We ordered the sushi combination, sticky ribs, and Japanese A5 Wagyu. The standout? Undoubtedly the sticky ribs--tender and delightful. Sushi was equally impressive. We shared a lot of smaller plates instead of having entrees and I am glad we did because each dish had so much flavor. My favorite was the tuna pizza. Great dinner for our first evening in Napa! The food was fantastic and the ambience outside was great! Everything we ate was delicious. The duck fried rice was my husbands to dish and I loved the tuna tartare pizza. His second top dish was the fried shrimp covered in a wasabi sauce. Literally everything we ate was so delicious. This would be a great spot for an anniversary dinner or just a romantic date night! Visit at least once, you won't regret it! read more
Definitely a must try! The standouts of the meal were really the kakuni and black cod dishes -- they were AMAZING. The cod was cooked and flavored perfectly. It definitely runs on the lighter side so I highly recommend ordering a side dish with some sort of carb to make it more filling. The kakuni literally melts in your mouth! Our server was very attentive and gave helpful tips on how to enjoy each dish, but we ordered the sashimi platter and they ended up bringing the wrong dish out (sushi platter instead) which was disappointing. The sushi platter was solid, but nothing special in my opinion. It was very filling though! The ambiance is slightly upscale and the restaurant is huge, but there were a lot of families and big parties in attendance for dinner. Had 2:30pm reservation for my Lola's birthday here was our experience... - There is limited street parking but there's a parking garage near by. Also parking near the small shopping plaza. - We only waited about 5 minutes for our table to be ready... the waiting room was cute with a lot to look at. - Staff was friendly and attentive - the food was amazing! The fish practically melted in your mouth, the Brussels sprouts weren't bland, the angry chicken was moist and flavorful, and the dessert was appealing to my eyes as it was to my stomach. - afterwards, the surrounding area is perfect for walking off all that good food and maybe doing some shopping. I have been a fan of Iron Chef Morimoton and his cooking sill amaze me. This is the very first time that I am close to his work. Made the reservation few days ago. You can see what we ordered via the attached pictures. Amazing environment, amazing food (presentation, taste, smell...etc) love everything we ordered (pork belly is the only one might be 4.5 starts). Staff (Michael and others) are very friendly and knowledgeable. Love the experience. Next time I will bring my whole family and friends over. Ambiance was quite nice later into the night, and the service was very kind. For appetizers and sides, I tried the Sticky Ribs and Garlic Mushrooms. For entrees/main dishes, I ordered the Seafood Tobanyaki, the Chef's Combination Sashimi (small), Negihama maki rolls, and Uni nigiri. I felt this place is a decent choice for a casual Japanese dinner rather than anything experiential, since they offered a variety of dishes and didn't really have a focus or signature dish. The highlight of my meal would have to be the Sticky Ribs. Cooked to perfection, great ratio of fatty-to-lean, and coated with a sweet n' savory glaze that made them oh so addicting to eat -- I'd definitely recommend that if you're coming here. The sashimi was okay, though presentation was lively; negihama was tasty and they gave a good amount of the uni, which was sweet, but overall, I'd say the fish and sushi weren't anything incredibly special (out of them all, the hamachi cuts were the only ones that stood out for me, perhaps it was an off day for fish?). The tobanyaki had a nice seafood-infused flavor and was delicious with rice, and the portion served two well. We also tried the Japanese Cheesecake which was a very subtle and nice dessert, but nothing really to write home about. Overall, it's a nice casual place for a meal, and I was glad to at least be able to try out the place once. read more
Came here with a few friends last Saturday and it was a great experience. This was my first time dining here and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. We sat right next to the window and it was nice to get a bit of the river view without sitting in the heat outside. I loved the open kitchen setup and how the entire restaurant was beautifully decorated. We ordered the $200 sushi platter, some appetizers, and entrees to share. The reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because we didn't feel like the sushi was anything spectacular. Yes, they were good, but we all agreed that you could get sushi like this elsewhere. However, we really enjoyed the appetizers and the entrees. My favorite was definitely the rock shrimp tempura; I couldn't stop eating them. We got the ramen for the kids, but the adults also enjoyed it. The broth was very flavorful MMM... The strawberry match punch was awesome; it's a must get. Service was excellent; the waiter was friendly and had a great sense of humor. It's a nice place to dine and catch up with friends. We'll come back again. Finally got the chance to try the famous Morimoto and was blown away. We ordered the shareable sushi platter and it was fresh, good portion, good variety and let's just say I was a happy camper. We didn't order any appetizers since we had just come in from wine tasting and had light bites at the winery. Sushi was an assortment of fresh fish, plenty for two people, wasabi wasn't weak and we both left pretty full. The have both indoor and outdoor seating but the river was dry, not really worth sitting outside but that's personal preference. We chose to sit indoor and admire the decor. They had two bars and staff was super friendly. Drink of choice was Japanese Manhattan and sheeeeeesh, be prepared to be tipsy off one. Well worth trying. First time at the Napa location. I Remember loving the Honolulu location, so perhaps I had unfair expectations going in. First I'll say the overall quality of the food was impeccable. The sushi was top grade. The yakitori corn was insanely good. And my double pork chop was delicious and cooked to perfection. I knocked off a star because for a restaurant in the price range I just expected a little bit more. For example, they seated 5 of us in a 4-seater, even though there was plenty of room. We had to ask to expand the table (which, to their credit they happily did upon request but I don't think we should have had to ask). And then there were a few little things. Like the char siu on the ramen was too fatty and overcooked, so it had the texture of wet dough. And the duck confit fried rice was basmati rice rather than plump Japanese rice. It just didn't absorb any of the flavors and was more oily than flavorful. That said, still a helluva meal. Just not quite the five star experience I was hoping for based on past experience. read more

7/23/2021 I went wine tasting with my parents last summer and we booked a reservation for Miromoto. It surprisingly was not too hard to book a time. The is a free parking structure right across the street! In addition, the service was great, the servers were attentive and polite. They frequently were checking how our meal was going. I will say, it was actually a great price for the food! I have been to Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills and everything was roughly 10-15 dollars cheaper. The sushi platter and the matcha cake were highlights of the meal to me. The sushi fish were firm, shiny and really fresh. The tartiness of the fresh strawberries and guava sorbet complimented the matcha cake perfectly. Overall loved the experience, ambience and aesthetics of the furniture. I would 100% recommend friends that wine taste in the area and definitely will be back the next time I am in the area. read more

4/5 stars. Have always wanted to try the famous Morimoto. Make sure to make reservations. Arrived here on a Friday night. Place was packed and pretty loud. The fish was fresh and tasted great. The toro tartare was an experience, but I loved it. Our waiter was amazing and made the whole dinner flow. We ordered lots of rolls, chefs choice of sashimi, toro tartare, pork gyoza, and buri bop. I am a huge fan of sake and our waiter picked out a great option within my budget. Overall food was great and service was good. I would like to come back to try some more main entrees. My party and I ordered wagyu nigiri, Uni and the California roll. The yellow fish rice pot and seafood tobanyaki as entree. Lastly, s'mores and green tea cake for dessert. Everything came pretty quickly and I really did enjoy the cocktail I ordered. The customer service was hit or miss, but our server was pretty on point. Updated Review, this time for lunch! After coming here for dinner for the last two consecutive New Year Eves, we decided to take relatives visiting from China to lunch here. The menu is different than the dinner one, and with good service and food I am updating the review to 4 stars. The lunch combos are like a bento box, but they give you lots of food! This includes two nigiri, three spicy tuna rolls, an order of crispy but fluffy tempura with creamy sauce on bottom, and your choice of tofu miso or green salad. The salad sounds mundane but its actually pretty good with fresh greens, pomegranate, and a strip of bonito (I think) for added umami. As for the entree, I sampled the roasted black cod which is incredibly soft, sweet, and savory. Basically, similar to miso-glazed Hawaiian Butterfish. You should order a $5 side of rice to neutralize the richness, or bum some off your guests. Lunch also serves up sandwiches and burgers Morimoto style. I got the Championship Burger, which is made with a Menchi Katsu patty. That's basically ground beef that has been fried again to add some crispiness. Despite its large size, it was very easy to eat! Loved the kimchi side and sauce on the burger. The sweet potato chips were a tad too oily though. Morimoto is definitely back on our list. I'm lookong forward to trying the new Momosan in Seattle next month! read more

Morimoto was a little more fusion than we expected, but the food was fairly decent. I got the sashimi dinner, which came with more sashimi than what was listed on the menu I think. Other dishes like the fried rice were also bigger than expected. The rolls were also good but very fusion with all the sauces on them. Dress code was actually pretty casual, I saw a lot of people in sundresses and general picnicking clothes, and my own black jeans didn't get a second glance. In the first place, I think it's actually a lot more casual than they let on, as they seem to cater to a lot of tourists. We found street parking on Main Street pretty easily; there really wasn't much traffic for Saturday lunchtime. But when things really start up again, the entrance for the Fifth Street Garage (public parking) is practically right across the street from Morimoto. Definitely more of a fusion than a straight-up Japanese restaurant, it was a mix of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, American, and even Cal-Mex or Mexican items/flavors. The dishes were all done very beautifully, and it's great for when you want to take someone who prefers more familiar, Western dishes with Asian flavors (rather than Asian dishes tweaked to Western palettes). Their omakase seems to be available again as the waiter offered to talk to the chef about it if we were interested. Apparently, they had to put a pause on it during the pandemic. So it's a possibility once more, but it would require the entire table to get it, which didn't fly with us at the time as we had people who didn't prefer seafood. It's located in the Riverfront Mall, right on the Napa Riverfront Promenade. If you sit outside (seating is on the promenade itself), you get a nice view of the Napa River, the 3rd Street Bridge, and the Napa Riverside Green on the other bank. Chef Masaharu Morimoto was one of the early mainstream celebrity chefs, appearing in Iron Chef and Iron Chef America. Morimoto Napa capitalizes on this and the waiters can go into detail about when, where, and in what context a lot of the main dishes were seen on TV. The interior has a very unique, contemporary aesthetic. I will also note that there seem to be some problems with a few of the tables inside? They were extremely sticky, despite the staff's best efforts (and they really did try). Even after they scrubbed it down another time in front of us, the surface was still sticky enough that it took a bit off the bottom of our takeout box. The dishes I think ended up being the most worth it/interesting were the Morimoto 'Pork Chop and Applesauce', the Ishi Yaki Buri Bop (essentially bibimbap) that's served then cooked in the stone bowl in front of you, and the Chef's Combination of sushi or sushi. Side note, the Chef's Combination might be meant for at least two people. Overall, interesting spot to drop by in a casual sense when you're visiting Napa. Didn't end up being especially exciting, but it was a decent meal. read more

First, there are soy sauce spots on the table, and there are food residues on the chairs. The menu is dirty. The water has not been filtered. The soap in the toilet was refilled and diluted with water. Employees still don't like to wear masks during this time. Overpriced for super low quality food! Amazing spot!! Went here for my boys birthday (see picture attached) and I definitely can't complain here! Solid service, attentive and polite. Food was really good!! Steak and cod was perfection. Sushi platter was delicious!! I think there was probably one cut I didn't like but I can't even remember which one it was because the rest were pretty bomb. Fried rice was on point just like the fries. You can get full here pretty fast! Overall loved the experience and ambience. We loved Morimoto and it was very easy to make a reservation on open table. We went during the week and it wasn't too busy, service was quick and the staff was very friendly. The toro tartare appetizer is a must try if it's your first time! It's a little pricey for what it is and more of an experience than something filling. Super fun to mix and match the textures and tastes. For our entree we split a small sushi combo. The prices are very reasonable for being a sushi place in downtown Napa and we will be back! I heard sometimes Morimoto is spotted at this location, but we didn't see him this time :) read more

Fine dining or any dining out is such a rare treat during this pandemic. We came here for a special occasion and were not disappointed. This was one of the nicer dining establishments open during the current surge. Wait staff was kind and helped space out seating during our meal from other patrons. We got the toro tartare which was soft and melt-in your mouth. The other dishes were delicious as well including the chef's combination sushi and chasu pork ramen. The standout for us was the ishi yaki buri bop. The yuzu flavor as well as lightly seared yellowtail paired so well with the comfort of bi bim bap style fried rice. Overall, our waiter who was also handling the bar at the same time was friendly and we enjoyed our experience here. 4 stars for morimoto for staying classy even during this pandemic. read more

We had a great experience again. This time, Cristal, who was our server was AMAZING!!!! She is the epitome of excellent customer service. She definitely made our second time here a wonderful dinner! Yes, it's pricey. It's Napa and it's Morimoto sooooo... It was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but no biggie. The crew seemed to get things rolling fairly well. Food was good. Dessert was yummmm! Whiskey options were decent, although they did run out of the better stuff. Cristal made up for it. Did I say that she is amazing? Yes she is! The food and drinks were delicious. Service was excellent, Alex was very attentive and kind. The ambiance was nice and it was somewhat quiet, probably because it was a Monday at opening. Is there a cake cutting fee?

As many as you want to order. The menu is priced as 1 piece.

No. They didn't ask to show our proof.

No, I went in June or July and they no longer have the omakase menu. However they did mention you can have the waiter pick out items for you and provide a variety of options.

I think business casual or dressed up is encouraged and most people try to wear nicer clothes. With that said, I've worn jeans and a tank top before and seen similar. I've never been turned away for dressing casually.
When I book dinner reservations do I need ask for the omakase meal up front? Some restaurants only have so many offerings a night of the omakase so want to make sure I don't miss out?
No you do not, it is on the menu so you can order when you sit and dine.
Anyone know the name of the cocktail with the star anise garnish? I can't find it on their menu online but i had it on my last visit and it was the best cocktail I've ever had. I want to know if they're still serving it. Thank you.

Which table is the best spot in this restaurant?
Depends on the time of year. If the weather permits for outdoor seating, that is our favorite. It looks out over the river. Also good people watching.
Has anyone tried both lunch and dinner? Is marimoto better for lunch or dinner? Is omakase available for lunch?
Definitely better at lunch!!! Get the award winning burger! You get more bang for your buck at lunch
Reverse happy hour?
Not that I know of. They just have the one happy hour in the afternoon.
