We go to this Morton's location quite a bit and was recently surprised by what happened. I ordered the short rib and was excited for it! After eating 1/2 of the entree I was planning on taking the other half home, but then decided to take another bite. It was hard to cut (opposed to the other tender side). I took a big bite of the other half and immediately spit out the ICE COLD FROZEN MEAT. Horrified, we told the waitress and manager (who seemed apologetic but very "green"). He assure us the entree would be removed from our bill. When the bill arrived, it did NOT have the culprit removed from the total and the waitress seemed clueless about why. ODD that the Manager didn't do his job of removing the item from our bill immediately after we spoke with him at length about it. We asked the waitress why she didn't have the Manager remove it and she told us WE were to do that. HORRIBLE service around this issue. I have lost ALL love for this (one of my favorite) dishes. Sadly, I will probably not return to this spot. It's gone down hill. Morty would not be pleased. read more

Great from start to finish: fabulous drinks by a real mixologist at the bar; courteous and professional service throughout; and, of course, amazing food. The cote de beouf special was incredibly delicious: moist, tender, flavorful, cooked to perfection, and enough for 4, nor 2 (yey for leftovers!!). The mashed potatoes with blue cheese and bacon were out of this world, and the creamed cor delish. Great apps of oysters and crab meat salad, a tomato and onion salad, amazing bread, and a souffle for dessert made for a perfect pre-Valentine's Day dinner. I went this past weekend for my dad's birthday and was not at all impressed. The crowd was definitely older, by older I mean 30s and up for a Friday night at 7:00pm. I wouldn't bring your kid here... For a steak house, it was mediocre at best. The prices are steep and for the service, not the biggest fan. The staff was knowledgeable and very nice, but if you're paying $70 for a steak, I would like a butter knife for the bread. I'm just saying. On a side note, the tuna tartar was fantastic! It's a solid restaurant. The food is good, not great (aside from the tartar) and the staff was sweet, but it was the ambiance that got me. This is a very classy establishment that brings in some of the best meat in the Illinois/ Chicago land area. Coming here try and find a meal deal where you can get a 3 meal deal(Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert) otherwise this place can be a bit pricy and not a restaurant I could go to very often with it's high price range. The main courses are good but the best food on the table is either the loaf of bread you get in the beginning or the Chocolate mousse in the end is delicious. read more

Went here for dinner recently during the week without a reservation and opted to sit in the bar. There is a bar-menu, but anything on the restaurant menu is also available at the bar. We've been here before, but only on weekend evenings. The parking lot and restaurant were almost empty and there were few folks that walked through the door while we dined. They have an extensive wine list and many by-the-glass options including a nice Ironhorse Cabernet choice (decent sized pour for about $16 a glass). Efficient, friendly service. Bar area is large and there are a few tables to choose from. We opted to sit at a table in the bar area. Shrimp cocktail was very good and consisted of four large, cold, firm shrimp accompanied by a nose-clearing horseradish-based cocktail sauce. The shrimp were large enough to share among a couple of people. The Iceberg Wedge salad was large and accompanied by a blue cheese dressing (thousand island was also an option), bacon and diced tomato. The blue-cheese french fries are a wonderful side dish that are not to be missed. The steaks and the hamburger slides (I believe the hamburger sliders are available in the bar only) were top notch. Was in there 2 weeks ago on a Saturday night and my wife and I sat in the bar. They have this special bar menu that is simply amazing. I couldn't believe the prices were as inexpensive as was stated on the menu and I had to have the bartender confirm it. He confirmed the inexpensive pricing and said that I'm not misreading the menu. We ordered a tuna appetizer off the main menu and then salads and entrees of the bar menu. The bartender was amazing even though the place was packed and the food was delicious. I felt that I was robbing them with the price I paid for the two of us. We are going to make this a regular go-to on the weekends moving forward. terrific service at the bar... I couldn't be happier. The bartender even obliged me with a side of blue cheese for the cloudy n dirty martini some guy in boston got me hooked on. I highly recommend the bar food if your in the mood for a taste but don't want to have to go straight to bed after throwing down a brontosaurus sized steak. We visited this Morton's location for our office executive Christmas dinner December 23rd. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable and the food was delicious overall. But the best part was our server Kevin (I think I am remembering that correctly) was the best part of our evening. He was professional, attentive and knowledgeable. He made certain recommendations from the menu that we would not normally have chosen and they were perfect! Definitely get the Cajun rub on any steak your order here, it is the best by far. We also enjoyed the wedge salad (huge!), the truffle oil cauliflower (spectacular) and the gourmet Mac & Cheese - our second favorite. Just went here on New Year's Eve, early evening. I had never been here. My husband has been here several times, but all some time ago, before we were married. He said it would be very good, like our experiences at other top, high end steakhouses. He's now eating his words...and they don't taste much better than our dinner. Grossly, overrated restaurant. Here's why: -Morton's chefs provide the latest example of the lost art of how to cook a steak properly. Medium Well does not mean red throughout, and only seared on the outside...nope, sorry, wrong. ...and on top of it, we had to wait for it. -the steak itself...a filet...supposed to be the tenderest cut...which is why you give up some taste for it....had little flavor...but was also tough and had some fat and gristle, as well. -had Scallops wrapped in bacon as an appetizer...chewy...very chewy...even for scallops..and just didn't' taste very good...even with the bacon and the horseradish sauce. -our waitress and other servers were uneven...we were not given bread until almost 15-20 minutes after we were seated. We saw all other tables had it so knew we should have...and almost asked about it....same issue with glasses of water...had to wait almost 10 minutes. not something you should experience for a $305 dollar bill. -On the point of value...we knew it would be a la carte...something we accepted here and elsewhere. No a problem in itself. However, the sides are not truly shareable....we ran out of mashed potatoes (which were the only bright spot in a very mediocre meal). The Brussels Sprouts tasted funny. My husband stopped eating them right away. So, the sides are very, very overpriced for the size and quality you're getting. The steaks are the same. By the time my husband cut away the fat from his steak it was less than half the size/weight we were billed for. -I didn't mind the decor, because I'm a fan of the late eighties anyway...gaudiness and all. In conclusion, this place may have been something years or decades ago, when they last redecorated...but our assessment is to go to Gibson's or even Palm Court, or The Tavern in Libertyville...the last two with much higher quality of food and service with almost half the tab. We believe this place relies on local, loyal customers who have swapped taste for tradition, location and personal loyalty. We would not return even if the bill was only $100. When my friend said that he wanted to eat at Morton steakhouse I said no way. I have had a couple meals in their main restaurant which is totally overpriced and not good. He said let's eat in the bar where they have their happy hour which is really no bargain. We both have the $20 hamburger. I ordered mine medium which should be a pink center the first one came out well done. The second one came out to rare which they took back and overcooked. I did eat about half of that just because I was so tired of waiting and I was hungry. After the fact they brought out three slider hamburgers which were not even that good. I think the management is poor they don't follow through. When leaving the restaurant on a Friday night I looked in the dining room and it was only about 60% occupied. You can go less than a mile down the road to Ruth Chris steakhouse which is 10,000 times better. Sorry Morton's but I will not be back read more

For the real meat lover, especially steak, it doesn't get any better than Morton's. I have been going to this restaurant chain, (yes, I said chain) since it first opened as Arnie Morton's in Chicago's Rush Street area in the early 60's. There used to be one in Arlington Heights or Rolling Meadows or Schaumburg, and my husband and I went there for special occasions. I remember once saving my pennies and taking him there for his birthday. I had $175 in my pocket for the two of us and thought I was good to go (this was in the early 90's and that was a lot to spend on dinner then). Wrong. Because everything is a la carte, you can spend big bucks here without ordering more than a steak with a couple of sides. The salads are very classy and tasty, the chopped spinach one of the best I've had......it's very garlicy, the sauteed mushrooms and onions are yummy on any steak, and the steaks, while probably no longer prime are most certainly choice and cooked to perfect temperature. The lobster was huge and one member of our party tried it and said it was great. Morton's is definitely not inexpensive, but the food speaks for itself. Valet parking is offered and reservations are a must. It's so noisy, I don't understand why it is always filled with businessmen and women. They're certainly not talking about business, unless they can read lips. read more

Gift Card, No Kids, Date Night - YAY. We checked out the website and unsurprisingly, the menu items did not show prices. Yes, i was worried. I had a $100 gift card and wanted to make the most of it. However, there was a special $109.99 steak and seafood- Perfect! Place is really hoity toity. Gentlemen in tuxes welcome you and even every worker that you see before you sit bids you a good meal. Almost felt like a hotel. Waiter was really nice, and we heard him do meal presentation to guests behind us. Another server noticed we were waiting for a while and kindly did the presentation to us. She was very quick and probably have done it like 100x that evening, but she spoke really fast and at the last minute she wasn't even looking at us but at another table.. hmmm.. very obvious lady. Then our server came and gave us a paper menu which after doing the calculations, we can both order 1 steak ($46) and 1 crab cake($44) - thats it, to keep meal within $100. I was embarrassed to ask about the special, not wanting to look like a cheapo. But realized - what the heck, I may never see these people again. So we asked waiter about it and he gladly brought over a card that comes with the Steak and Seafood Special. This is what we got: 2 Chopped Salads (generous portion and delish), 2 Single cut filet (tiny, but perfectly cooked and THICK), 2 sides-we picked grilled asparagus (it wasnt crunchy enough for me and had this weird brown sauce) and spinach with button mushrooms (really good- more spinach than mushrooms, wish it was otherway around), 2 desserts: chocolate cake with icecream(soooooo good!!) and key lime pie (tasty, but crust not that great). All in all - our entire bill less tip came out to $122. With my $100 gift card we paid $22 + 30% tip to our server who was really nice, great smile and kept eye contact. Came in with a party of 3 on a Saturday around 7:30 ...really busy but got seated within 10min. Great cocktails...great service! Sam the bartender made the best Old Fashion I've ever had. Ordered the Truffle fries then the filet special, prime burger and the steak tacos. Everything was outstanding! Tom the manager came by and chatted for bit, really made us feel welcome. Despite all the hype with this place, my date had to send his steak back 3 times. I went here for restaurant week and got my pre fixe deal. The petite filet was delicious but the asparagus was lackluster, soggy. The waitress talked and waited on us like we were no ones. Maybe because we looked young and she didn't think we were worth her time, disappointing. My date ordered off the regular menu and asked for his New York strip steak to be medium rare, it came out well done, second time, came out so rare that the center was cold. The third time, it just seemed like they tried to warm it up but it was still cold in the center. We ate it in misery, not wanting to send it back a 4th time and getting the chef in trouble. If I am going to be paying that much for a piece of meat, I'd want it to be cooked just the way I like it! No apologies from the waitress or management. Parking is ample, front staff is nice. I have ate at Morton's for years,the Original for dinner Wacker for lunches and Rosemont (Love Patrick and Martina). This is the second time i ate at Northbrook Morton's and it just does not measure up.The service was 4 star( We ate in the bar).We ate 3 appetizers all 4 star,2 center cut iceberg salads.The outside of my salad was wilted (1 star) The main was the 9oz ribeye sandwich and a combo shrimp and crab cake. I had to send my sandwich back way over salted The replacement was meh(sandwich 2 stars the shrimp and crab 5 stars).The desert Carrot cake was as always 5 star NEVER change this please..I spend over $250 bucks ( 2 people) on this trip to Morton's and was disappointed..I guess Rosemont (always 5stars)is the one for me..SEE YOU SOON PATRICK.. read more

I've always felt that Morton's in general, and the Northbrook location especially, could be relied upon for a positive experience that left my family and clients feeling the admittedly hefty tab was money well spent. Last night that was certainly true, as regards both the food and the service and hospitality. Funny how an assertively incompetent bartender can come close to blowing the whole deal! I tried and failed again and again and again to get a simple drink: rye Manhattan, straight up. After returning one foul attempt of his after another (more rye, less rye, more cherries, no bitters, ad nauseam), it finally dawned on us and our waitperson that the guy was using dry vermouth and, when challenged, admitted that he was unaware of the existence of anything called sweet vermouth. He was not the regular bartender; Morton's of course didn't charge us for the drink, and I wound up making out OK by mooching my wife's champagne (it was her birthday). I guess many of us are lucky that whoever hired this guy doesn't have a job vetting pilots or surgeons. read more

Our parents took us out for our anniversary dinner and the whole staff made this a five star experience. The menus were personalized to say Happy 1st Anniversary! One staff member took some pictures of us and our family and then gave us each a copy to take home with us. The food was insanely delicious and the waitress helped us to choose our portions sizes correctly which was appreciated. The Porterhouse was truly memorable and the Shrimp Alexander was delish! The whole staff went above and beyond to make the evening fabulous! We will definitely be back! read more

I've been to many fine dining establishments, and this was the first time I really did not think it was worth the cost. Our servers were all nice and attentive, so they deserve more than 3 stars, but frankly for a $150 dinner for two people we should not have to share a freaking side dish. Really? Each person can't get their own vegetable side dish? That is some nickle and dime b.s. Plus, the best word to describe this particular location...suburban corporate office building. It is easy to miss seeing this place passing by, and if you do I don't really think you are missing anything you can't find elsewhere. You can find steaks that are just as good at many other steakhouses in the Chicago area, and not feel like you also just spent $30 SHARING a side of bland mashed potatoes with your date. Our steaks were very good, but I sure as hell would not expect anything less than spectacular for a $40-$50 steak. If all of the Morton's menus are structured like this, it is unlikely I'll ever visit another. Not my style for fine dining. read more

This is one of our favorite places to go to for a great steak. Unfortunately this visit was a BIG disappointment. We did not have a reservation and arrived early for dinner. We were seated right away. Cocktails served and martini was perfect. Ordered crab cocktail which was very mediocre, not so fresh and it was warm not cold. Ordered our filets and a glass of wine, Coravin style. Never had a coravin pour was interested to see how this works. Manager came over and poured the wine . Not showing how this works or what it was all about. Bad demonstration, which I was told is a BIG deal by our waiter. Our steaks arrived along with a split potato . Size significantly different although ordered the same. One steak was cooked properly the other steak was over done. Both ordered the same. Potato cold. Our waiter did not come over during our meal to check to see how we liked the steaks. The manager did come by and we did tell him the one steak was to done and he offered a new steak after we had gone through half of our steak all ready. At that point we did not want to wait for a new steak. The flavor was not at all up to par. We will go back but we're very disappointed in our steak this evening. Past experiences have been much better all around. They did offer a free dessert but we declined. read more

Lobster cocktail was nice, potatoes great, but very disappointed by the bone-in ribeye. Prices are high but the food and drink are worth every penny. Cocktail and wine selection is superb. Atmosphere is low lighting w elegant decor, and quiet space is good for talking over the meal. Service is friendly and does (as some other reviews have mentioned) include a few prods to add extras, but in my case this was not obnoxious, a polite no thanks was sufficient. I ordered lobster bisque and halibut on a bed of spinach w edamame and oyster mushrooms. The soup was very fine, included several large lobster claws with the creamy bisque, a nice touch. Fresh sweet bread and whipped butter is soft, warm, and goes great with the food. The halibut entree was just great, cooked to flaky perfection and beautifully blended w a light pesto sauce over the bed of greens and mushrooms. One of the best fish entrees I've ever enjoyed, though one does pay for the high quality--more than a hundred dollars for a cocktail soup wine and the entree. If you can afford it, would be fine dining for couples or family. read more

Our family recently celebrated our dad's 90th birthday. We wanted everything to be perfect - and thanks to the team at Morton's it was! We all eat at great restaurants frequently for business and leisure and we all agreed that this was one of the all time best. The food was absolutely phenomenal!! Most of us had steak - various cuts - and all were superb - perfectly done, flavorful in the extreme, and SO tender. One had crab cakes, which she swore were the best she's had - even over ones in Maryland. We had several different side dishes - the spinach and mushrooms tasted like they'd just been picked and cooked immediately before serving and all the various types of potato dishes were equally fresh tasting. The salads were also super fresh, with the wedge salad being enough to serve 4 people and utterly delicious. The desserts were all terrific - the cheesecake had a carmelized top and was accompanied by a mix of fresh berries, the chocolate souffle was out of this world, as were the carrot cake and key lime pie. Rick, our waiter, was outstanding in every way. He was friendly, humorous, helpful, completely knowledgeable about the menu and best options for us, attentive and had impeccable timing for every stage of the meal. Plus, this WAS a special occasion and the Morton's team made sure it was. We had arranged with Patty, the Sales and Event Manager, to have a private room for our party of 10. We were able to order from the full menu, but as a special touch, Morton's prepared a menu sheet topped with a happy birthday message for our Dad. His dessert arrived with birthday candles, but otherwise no noisy ceremony - just as we had requested. Rick took photos for us with our own cell phones and also printed out special memento photos for us from Morton's. We had a lot of "speeches" and gifts to open so we took a bit more time than we had initially planned, but never were we rushed in any way or made to feel that we should wrap things up more quickly. This experience has turned us into Morton's devotees. I most highly recommend Morton's as not only a great steakhouse but as a great place for special occasions. read more

Great experience all around. Took my family there for my son's high school graduation. Fun & engaging but professional waiter. The food was delicious. This sounds crazy but I thought the side dishes were so good that I almost didn't need the steak (which was also awesome). What I wanted was a memorable experience for my family and I got it. I was really surprised to see that this place has only 3 stars...My husband and I have dined there several times, and not once have we been disappointed. It is a little pricey however you get what you pay for. I don't know of any place around this area that has a better steak. This review is just for the bar. The bar menu is more moderately priced that the regular menu. I had the Parmesan Truffle fries: fries were not bad, but truffle flavor? They must measure the truffle oil in microliters. And I thought there was no Parmesan cheese at all; but I was wrong, there was a few curls of Parmesan at the bottom of the tries. All, in all, pretty disappointing since I can get good fries at McDonalds for far less than $6. I also had the tuna tacos. These were pretty good. But what is with the strange sauce they come with? Is it a spicy thousands island dressing, or what? Beer and wine selection off the value menu is very limited and still $7 per glass. This is the worst $350 meal my family and I have had. We have been to Morton's downtown many times and always love the food and atmosphere. This was our first time at the Northbrook location and we will not be back. I'm giving it 2 stars for the quick wine service and the waitress was pleasant. The food was not up to Morton standards. The steaks were over charred on the outside (we all ordered them medium). The cut of meat was not what I expect for $45.00. My daughters sliders were dry and the hashbrowns were over done. The atmosphere was OK but to me it is more of a casual feel. Some of the other waiters kept talking to the table next to us. Not something I would mind if I was having a casual meal. It just doesn't feel as "classy" as other high end restaurants we have been to. We will stick with the downtown location, Capital Grille and Chicago Cut. This Northshore family is very disappointed. read more
