The other night we had a reception in the Bar. It was put on by Marriott. I had The best mahito ever! Excellent meat/cheese plate. The small plates of steak, were so good. Saled was served in a jar. It was a pleasent surprise! The entertainment was just okay though. Good Time for Free! Fortunately I was informed of the event by other guests in the concierge lounge. NOT STAFF! The Restaurant serves, just average food. Fine for breakfast. Gold/Diamond Elite eat for Free. This is where it gets weird. If you don't eat by 9:00 a.m. this is what you get... Juice, coffee, 2 eggs. Potato, meat, and toast. No substitution. Eggs every day, lol "Service is better than the food"

This little restaurant and bar located adjacent to the lobby of the Renaissance Hotel turned out to be a very, very pleasant surprise. Tired after a lengthy day, we decided to visit the bar for a drink. Great bartender - courteous, cordial, non-intrusive. Samples of the beers on tap were the most generous I've ever been served anywhere! Prices for all drinks were extremely reasonable. And as we sat at the bar, we were able to order from the restaurant (located right through a door next to the bar). Convenience while staying at the hotel, but not a real destination for dinner. Nonetheless, both thumbs up!

I always come here for a breakfast buffet. They have eggs Benedict on Sunday, cheese with strawberries sauce crepes, and breakfast burritos on Saturday. They also always have fruit, eggs, potatoes, ham or sausage, pastries, juice and coffee. Everything is very fresh and tasty. The staff is excellent, especially Anna. It's my family favorite breakfast place.

We had reservations for 9pm and were able to be seated straight away. We arrived to find the address brought us to a barber shop. Fortunately, my husband had done some research and knew the drill--we made our way to a organ against a brick looking wall. On top of the organ was a bell--we rang the bell and shortly after the brick wall swung open and a woman came out to greet us. She had us play a tune on the organ and then brought us back into the speakeasy. The vibes are pitch perfect. Dimly lit with candles on tables and artful films playing on screens. We loved it. We were greeted straight away and brought water. You can also get a full meal here which we did not know but noted for our next visit. They had a special Valentine's menu as well as their regular cocktail menu. For my first cocktail, I got the paper plane which was light, lemony, and lovely with the adorable touch of a small paper plane pinned to the cocktail with a clothespin. For my second, I got one of their Valentine's specials which was essentially a Boulevardier made with a small float of mezcal on top. What an amazing addition to this classic cocktail! Truly, gave it added dimension, depth, and smoky flavor. I loved it. We also enjoyed their Valentine's dessert special, which was princess cake. It was a lovely blend of tart raspberry and warm almond--we loved it! The service was lovely throughout our experience. Get to it!

Charlie Beinlich's Food and Tap out in Northbook is this Dive Bar / Tavern established in 1950 and looked and felt every bit of its 75 years; I absolutely LOVED this place. Wow, talk about nostalgia! Beinlich's emanated an era way back when that just doesn't exist anymore. At 7:30 pm this Saturday night this cash only place was packed to over flowing. I mean Humming like a turbine engine. The bar was sold out and we jumped on the only table left. Now the fun started: * Their Chili con Carne is this cauldron of meat and beans done thoroughly right. We loved it * Their shrimp cocktail was equally wonderful * My Cheeseburger was out of this world. With sautéed onions, real cheddar cheese, on toasted rye bread - Wow, it was so good. * Their French fries and coleslaw were great sides * My Miller Highlife Beer in a bottle took me back to my college days. The service was great, the ambience was better and the crowd was just this mess of very happy people. Will I come back here - a resounding YES! This is exactly what happens to you when you go out with the right people.

We had plenty of room and it was nice to have delicious beer, good food, and a pleasant view of this part of Highland Park. I've been here before when it had a different name, but it seems like little has changed. This is a well warn bar! Comfy seats at the bar and a smattering of booths and table with a homey feel - lots of wood and available light from the large front window. This is not a huge room by any means but it never felt crowded. Our group had mostly apps like guac and chips and a quesadilla or two. I tried a Kolsch lager and a Marzen lager both if which were a little cheaper than usual due to the Happy Hour Special of $5 a beer. Margaritas are $6 at Happy Hour. The beer was very good! We had a great waiter and being seated just a few feet from the bar meant no one went thirsty or hungry for long. On past visits I was seated on the back patio but we had rain on this most recent visit, and it's also March! (Patio season does not start in the Chicago area for at least another month or month and a half!) The patio is a nice little wood fenced in area with lots of tables and a back tap bar. Not sure if that set-up is still the same.... This is a great local bar with a lot of rustic, homey charm. I'd definitely recommend if you want good local beer in a friendly old-school bar.
