I've bee coming to MO's since I was a little girl. I had moved away out of state and was so excited to come back "home" and share the Mos experience with my husband. The food is not what I remembered. We ordered the clam chowder bowl, shrimp cocktail, salad and a couple drinks. The clam chowder tasted old... I don't even know how to explain it but it was not good. My bread for the bread bowl was extremely stale tasting and our salads were mediocre at best. The servers were not so great either. They forgot to bring our salads and when we reminded them... they also brought us the wrong dressing, forgot to bring my husbands beer, and the service was overall slow considering how empty the place was. Pretty busy venue. I'm not a fan of the location in terms of it being located in a hotel. The restaurant itself has a great view. I mainly went for the chowder which was actually a great choice. Very flavorful and thick. The bowl is a large portion. We also got some house salads which were gross. The lettuce was old and definitely not fresh. Got looked like shriveled lettuce and when your veggies becomes discolored and start turning red, well that's how it was. So I did not touch my salad. This place must really be surviving on reputation alone. Hopefully other locations are better, otherwise... all the hype is for nothing. The halibut fish n chips I paid $25 bucks for was small pieces of fish served in soggy breading that was dripping in grease. Fries were just as bad. Gross. The clam chowder I've heard so much about was basically watery, bacon and potato soup. I doubt there were any clams in it. Campbell's is better! First time at Mo's and it was a major disappointment. Let me start by saying that the 2nd star is for the service by the lady waiting my table. She was clearly embarrassed by what she served me! If not for her, this would easily be a 1 star review. I came in by myself while family and friends were out on the beach. I got seated right away, which isn't always the case at any of the Mo's locations. Off to a great start, so I thought. I order a cup of chowder, grilled cheese, and the steamed oyster appetizer. The chowder was fine. Not great. There are certainly better options in Seaside for chowder. But it's consistent, based on other experiences at various Mo's. Grilled cheese was fine as well. But the oysters -- they were DESPICABLY SMALL! (See my picture!) I know oyster sizes vary... and I know that restaurants that serve fresh oysters are always at the mercy of what happens to be in season. I get that! But there comes a point where you as the restaurant simply say that you don't have that menu item today... because you have more integrity than to serve this nonsense. When the oysters came out, they were TINY! I mean... of the 6 that come in the appetizer order, 4 of them were smaller than a penny, and the other two were not much bigger. When I showed my server what was inside my oyster shells when I opened them, she immediately got the manager. I could tell she felt bad having served that. The manager comes and first tries to say some nonsense like "I know they're small, but aren't they some of the sweetest tasting oysters you've had." Ummm hell no... and even if they were, I couldn't tell because they're so small I couldn't taste anything. She then acts like she's doing me a favor by taking 50% off the price of the oysters. At 50% off, it still comes out to over a dollar per oyster for the appetizer. How any establishment would even charge for serving a customer an oyster the size of a fingernail is beyond me. But it's enough for me to never set foot in another Mo's ever again. Do yourself a favor. When you're at these coastal towns, drop into the smaller establishments and the hole-in-the-wall seafood eateries. The food is just as good, if not better; you won't wait 30 mins to an hour to get a seat; and they clearly value their customers more. read more

This has been a staple of Oregon for years! My mom came here as a teen in the 90's and always talked about it. It is a tradition during the annual family reunion to have a meal at Mo's. Until this year we had to drive to Cannon Beach as the nearest outlet. Now they have one in Seaside, at the Shilo Inn right on the beach. As someone who is overweight with limited mobility I was nervous about sitting on the wooden benches they provide but it proved sturdy enough. Based on giving Mo's Yelp reviews a once over I decided to be traditional and order cod fish and chips which comes with their highly regarded clam chowder. Their chowder is thick, has lots of potatoes plus clams and very creamy. Unlike many eateries they provide lots of crackers which impressed a cracker fiend like myself. The chowder more than lived up to its reputation. The size of the fish portions appear smaller than some places but quality over quantity is a fair trade-off. Portions were perfectly fried and breaded with the meat tender, not dried out. Fries were thick and very chewy, just the way I like them. Nice touch is slice of thick bread with butter that accompanies the entree. Tartar sauce is a perfect compliment to the fish, not too tart. The staff were upbeat and responsive. Food served promptly. The place is a bit noisy because of the 60s rock songs they play plus the buzz of conversation by diners. They have a gift/toy section that is very popular with the kids. It was nothing to complain about by any means, but pretty average to what you'd expect. Portions were average, beverages were average. The wait staff was a bit disappointing. Just arrived at our new location for the next 5 days and after relaxing decided to head down to the seaside. When on the Northwest coast we like to try out seafood and Clam Chowder at different locations. Walked down to view the Promenade at Seaside and put our name on the list at Mo's. Hostess said 30 minute wait. We walked around enjoying the amazing ocean view. Weather was perfect and lots of people enjoying the beautiful day. Waited for text and 45 minutes nothing, decided to wonder back to restaurant and we were called in. Asked about outside seating and they said additional hour wait. Staff was a little slow to take our drink orders but much better after that. I decided on the Clam Chowder, husband on a Mixed platter of seafood. The bowl of clam chowder was a decent size but just average tasting. Had much better, actually at a different Mo's it was better. Husbands meal mainly fried clams, fish and shrimp and French fries. The fish was very overcooked, not good at all. Shrimp was fine and clams borderline overcooked. We were completely underwhelmed with the food. In our journey up and down the Oregon coast to find the perfect seafood we may consider a less tourist area where the chef is less rushed in the kitchen. read more

Prime location with a beautiful view of the beach. We sat semi-al fresco; our table was just right outside the open window although not quite outside the patio. The breeze was a bit chilly and we were not far out enough to benefit from the overhead heat lamps. I asked what was the local favorite. She said the shrimp cocktail and the chowder. I ordered both. My wife loves the clam chowder,(I would if I wasn't allergic to shellfish) but I love their fish and chips or even their hamburgers . These are our favorites. We've never had bad service there always friendly and gets the orders right. Food is always served hot and the view of the Pacific Ocean is amazing. I always look forward to eating there. My second trip here in a year... wanted to try again in case they were having a bad day. For the 2023 visit we ordered the deep-fried shrimp & chips, the calamari and had a cup of the "world famous" clam chowder. Honestly, the clam chowder was simply OK. Not much clam taste. Very few clams. Seasoning is ho-hum. We've had much better in San Francisco (anywhere on the Piers), Seattle, Portland (hello, Jakes), Morro Bay... it's like Mo's is riding their reputation from 30 years ago. The shrimp was overcooked and the batter/outside tasted as if the oil in the deep fryer hadn't been changed in some time. The fries were just average with no seasoning (no salt that we could detect). The calamari was average. Honestly, they all tasted as if they were frozen, not freshly made poorly cooked in questionable oil. For a place with Mo's reputation (this clam chowder was featured in the Smithsonian? Please.) and for these prices, exceedingly disappointing. Perhaps I lived in CA for too long and have become a food snob. So be it. It would take just a little effort, and perhaps just a little cost, to do a _far_ better job with these offerings. read more

We went here for the view. Enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking the Prom and beach. The service was fine, but nothing great. The food was SO disappointing. It was very bland and portion sizes were very small. Over priced for the amount you get. The strawberry lemonade was the best part of my meal. Usually mo's is a go to but this experience wasn't great. The girls at the hostess station were mode into the conversation they were having than getting us seated. Our waitress was really nice and service was quick, but The clam strips werent even clam strips. More like deep fried breading, clams were practically non existent. Location, location, location. This modern take on Mo's holds a key spot on the waterfront in Seaside off the main drag of Broadway. The tables are separated more than usual to take into account social distancing. They also have large garage sized windows that face the ocean which they open on warm days to let in the summer breeze. We ordered the clam chowder; one was in the cannon ball (which is 8oz), and mine was 16oz bowl with garlic bread on the side (two orders around the same price). The service is the worst in town. We have always gone to Mo's, even knowing this. The last time we went 4/2/23, it was by far the worst. We got up and walked out. We specifically asked for a window seat, was told there wasn't one available, so my husband asked the same girl as I sat down, and she said, we just gave that to the people behind you.
