    Meet Me Downtown
    Brian S.

Sooooo much potential here, BUT, I would change a couple things to bring it up to five stars. I actually had a hard time deciding whether to give it 3 or 4 stars, but settled on 3 mostly because of how atrocious the crème brûlée was. So here's my assessment: Ambiance: 5 stars. Downtown Fresno has a few cool bars when it comes to ambiance, but Moses McQueens definitely wins. The inside is really swank, and the back patio is great too on a nice night. The crowd was all watching the WC match, and that was super fun to be a part of. If you have been to Rainy Street in Austin, this place would fit right in. Service: 5 stars. The staff was all great. The bartender was really cool, but also great at managing all of the orders (it was busy because of a world cup match) and was able to get drinks out fast. Staff also kept the whole place clean, clearing trash and glasses quickly, and the staff member who told us "thank you for coming" on the way out really put a cherry on top. Drinks: 4 stars: First of all, the cocktail menu is not big enough. A bar like this really needs at least two drinks from all of the major categories (two vodka/gin, two bourbon/whiskey, two rum, two tequila/mezcal). But they only had one bourbon drink and one rum drink, so I would add one more of each. Also, I would add in a spritz type drink for the summer. The bartender made us a secret off-menu spritz (wasn't Aperol, but another similar apertif), and it was amazing. The tequila drink I had (meet me downtown) was missing something, it was a bit too "harsh" and needs something to even it out. Food: 1 star!: We only had the vegan crème brûlée since we had already had dinner. Major props for making it vegan, that part was awesome. But the portion size was *TINY*, maybe three bites in total. And it was a bit too grainy, it needed to be blended better. The taste was pretty good, but we felt like what we got would qualify as a free sample, not a whole desert. Moses McQueens is right there, it just needs a bigger/more diverse cocktail list and to revamp the vegan crème brûlée and make the portion size larger to take that jump!

We've been wanting to check this place out since we heard about it opening... finally got around to it... First initial thought upon walking up? Looks cool, love the color... and there's history with that building (it's 100yrs old). We started off with walking around to the back. It's a lot more spacious than I expected, plenty of seating, looks like a chill place to hangout. After that we went on up to the bar to order a few drinks and some Sweet Potatoe fries (we just came from eating tacos so we weren't hungry). He got a beer, my friend and I both got the "Meet Me Downtown"... meh. It sounded good on paper but the drink was not good. It tasted like watered down tequila, and that's it. Only thing that helped me finish it so as to not waste ($13) was the tajin rim... helped add some flavor to it. The fries were good. No sauce came with it though. He liked his beer. Service.... was lacking. We weren't greeted with any friendly faces or gestures. The guy who took our order didn't seem to care to be there.... probably put that same effort into making our drinks? And I guess this is their system there-- you order food, you pick up outside. That's fine. It was ready right away. My bf said that when he went to the window the guy just opened the window and handed it to him and shut it right back.... not friendly whatsoever and not a peep out of his mouth. It seemed like such a cool place but I have to say... the vibe was not very vibey-- for us at least. They have a corn hole section outback, cute. There was a giant Connect Four.... but, it was broken and we didn't get to play. Chairs for the tables were cute but not very comfy-- they are definitely the type of chairs that will leave the back of your legs/ass marked up if you're wearing shorts, if you know what I mean. Oh, bathrooms were clean though. Maybe if this place is still around in the fall time I might consider coming back to give them another shot but as of now.... shitty service and high temps are not a good combo for me. Also, parking downtown isn't always ideal--we got lucky. Meter we parked at already had 2hrs paid for. Anyway, I'd put them between 1-2 stars... aside from their building and their backyard layout, nothing calls me to come back. Sorry. No rounding up here... it's gonna be a 1 star for me.

Good drinks, good food and good music! The band was playing Jhene Aiko live and it was so so good! A vibe for sure. Ordered the Caribbean burger with fries and it was flavorful, juicy and a hint of that jerk flavor. Wait wasn't long at all and the drinks kept coming. Service has always been great as well. Cool spot for late night eats

Checked out Moses McQueens recently with my best friend and had such a great time. We started with a couple drinks at the bar before heading out to the backyard patio, which honestly might be my favorite part of the whole place. The weather was perfect and the outdoor space is huge and there is plenty of seating, lots of room to spread out, and fun yard games that make it easy to hang out for a while. The food was good and definitely left me wanting to come back and try more of the menu. I'm especially excited to see this place during the summer because it already has such a fun atmosphere. My only suggestion would be adding a few misters outside because Fresno heat is no joke, and I think that would make the backyard even more comfortable during those hotter months. Overall, I really hope this business does well. We love the staff and the bartenders are fantastic and very knowledgeable. It feels like such a great addition to downtown Fresno and exactly the kind of spot the area needs.

Cute spot, reminds me of the backyard social in old town Clovis. Love the comfy house vibes. The patio in the back really does feel like you're in a backyard, there's some picking up that still needs to be done but overall I like it. As of now have a full bar as well as beer and a few food options (fries, plantains & chicken wings). I was there on an art hop night so it was pretty packed but even then we were able to get our drinks within 5 minutes. I can see myself coming back here in the future when in the area!

I finally made it to Moses McQueen's, and I can definitely see why people have been talking about it. The concept is so unique--a beautifully restored historic home that's been transformed into a restaurant and cocktail bar. It has a cozy, welcoming feel while still feeling stylish and chic. My favorite dish of the night was easily the catfish tacos. The fish was perfectly fried, crispy, and flavorful without feeling heavy. They were the standout for me. One of my favorite parts of the experience was the backyard patio. Even on a warm summer evening, there was a nice breeze that made it incredibly comfortable to sit outside. It's the kind of place where you can lose track of time chatting with friends over cocktails. The music was also on point--I loved the playlist they had going all night. Speaking of cocktails, I tried the Rich Girl, and while I honestly couldn't tell you everything that was in it, I can tell you it was delicious, refreshing, and definitely packs more of a punch than you'd expect. Pace yourself! The service was friendly, the atmosphere was fun, and I love that Moses McQueen's offers something a little different for Downtown Fresno. It's a great spot for date night, girls' night, or just grabbing drinks and enjoying a beautiful evening outside. I'll definitely be back.

First off I just want to say that I love this gem! The whole vibe was immaculate. Secondly, I can't give enough credit to Moe, I really hope y'all cherish her as much as I did! A true gem who has 10/10 customer service skills. She literally made our experience here 10x better. Honestly, I'd come back solely to interact with her because that's how much of an imprint she left. Cat fish tacos are the way to go, but get there early because they definitely sold out!

Hmmmm well - the drinks and the bartender were great! The food - hot mess... or maybe cold mess? I really think they'd benefit from putting a little "order at the bar" sign on the food truck if that's the plan. Everyone was so confused on what to do. When we finally figured it out, we were handed a buzzer but then our food never came. We checked on the truck and the cook said his system was down. So we just had to tell him what we ordered. My friends burger was totally cold and his response was "yeah it's been ready for a while" but we were sitting next to the truck and he never said it was ready. Half of the orders were wrong, cold, or missing ingredients. My order was the only one that was hot and mostly correct. It actually tasted pretty good... but everyone was so hungry and discouraged that it made for an awkward dinner. We were heading to a show so we didn't really have time for so much frustration. We told the bartender and he stepped in to help with the food chaos. I'll give it another try but man this was rough. I gave 4 stars ONLY because the bartender (Auggie) was so great and the ambiance was nice.

Been wanting to try this place since opening. I love that it's a house so you're able to be inside or outside. The staff is super friendly, walking in that door you instantly feel welcomed. The girl checking our IDs at the front is super sweet her energy is everything. The music was early 2000s throwbacks which I loved it's always hard to find a place that has a decent playlist going. Both of the bartenders downstairs were super sweet. They even went as far as asking our spice and sweet tolerance for our drinks! And when it came to the food !!! Ugh my wings were tasty. I've never had Caribbean fusion I loved the spices they put in . It was like a sweet and spicy mix it was different but in a good way! (I'm usually picky) The sweet potato bread pudding I would come back alone for that it was like biting into a cinnamon roll. We raved about it to one of the bartenders and they said there is going to be a fall version!!!! So excited will definitely be adding this to my rotation.

4/16/26 Been pretty excited about this one!! Now it's on the Hot and New list! Awesome!! Ended up disappointed. Parking is an issue. You have to pay for it too. Cant imagine what it would be like on a busy night... Arrived and greeted. Sat at the bar. Given a menu. 1 side is food and the other is drinks. Not much variety of reds. The worker had no idea what reds were available and acted clueless. I asked what kind of red was on the menu and she had no idea. Just brought what they had. The actual bottles to show me. Opted out.... Nice environment, music playing and nice bar. Decided to take it to-go! Pretty good selection of very different meal options. Looking... Ended up trying and getting one of the bartenders attention. Ordered the Caribbean Chicken Sando. Something different. Ordered it with a side salad and to-go. The worker was kind and said it's good. Paid for it and given a buzzer to go off when it's ready and told I need to go outside to pick it up at the food truck. Hmm....different. She did get me an ice water and that was appreciated. After sitting at the bar, weather is nice, decided to go outside to check it out. Very nice! Better! Lots of searing and obviously, the food truck. All food is made there. About another 5 minutes and the chef actually brought the order to me. Sitting at the deck. Very kind with well wishes! Took it and headed out with another kind worker loading stuff and wished a good day too!! Lunchtime! Caribbean Chicken Sando was good. Wished it wasn't burnt, but still had a tasty Caribbean flavor. Nice change. The salad was Very plain. Just lettuce, onion and tomato. Nothing else. Too plain! It was fresh. The service was Good! The lunch was okay. If it wasn't burnt, I think it would've been really good! At least, not ALL of it was burnt. Definitely a nice atmosphere! Wishing them the best!!

My husband and I checked out Moses McQueens this evening, a Tuesday. There was a big sports group there playing trivia. They have a really cool outside area in the back (actually also a cool front street facing patio to sit). As you've probably heard, this is a remodeled old house and they did a gorgeous job of it, inside and out. After checking ID with security, you can enter the property through a path to the backyard. We went up through the front door instead. The bar is in the front room when you enter. There was a small line and it didn't really seem to be moving. So we went outside to the food truck. We ordered the collard greens salad and the pineapple lemon pepper wings. It seemed there was a window outside where you could order drinks but it wasn't clear and also had a small line that didn't seem to be moving so we didn't bother checking it out. There were no available seats outside so went back inside where there were a few tables. There seemed to be a line at the far right end of the bar so my husband got in. But as I was waiting at our table it seemed like bartenders were also serving people sitting/standing at the bar so I got behind someone, hoping I'd get served earlier than my hubby. The bartenders were really personable and genuine and obviously experienced. I was trying to figure out why things were going so slow. I think maybe they were new to the bar set up, there seemed frequent questions among them where things were, misplacing items like caps, corkscrews, etc. I ordered two South of Shaw beers on tap but they only had enough for one so I had the Rich Girl cocktail instead. It was delicious! Our buzzer went off that our food was ready - love those. My salad was really good: the collards were fresh but tender. Whatever the chef is doing with those: well done and thank you! The corn bread croutons were stale but everything else was so good. I added grilled chicken and that was really flavorful, teriyaki flavor a bit but not exactly. Tasty anyway, I'm glad I added it. The wings were salty and we really shouldn't have tried a new combination. It was salty and didn't really work. The pickled veggies that came with the order were *really* good, though. We thought we added bread pudding to our order when the worker asked if We Wanted anything else but when I picked up the order they had no record of it - boo. I wanted to check our receipt but we weren't given one - also boooo. I bumped up my preferred 3.5 stars because overall three stars wasn't fair.

In case you forget it used to be a house.

Stopped in here for a Bourdain Day last Wednesday and we absolutely made the right choice to check out this new spot. Since it was Wednesday at lunch time, they weren't remotely crowded, so we sat right in the middle of the bar and got great service the whole time. We always had at least 2 bartenders checking in on us. The vibes are immaculate and they even have a living room area with a couch, coffee table, and plenty of comfy chairs for conversation areas. Considering it used to be a house, it is a little funny that all the food is cooked in a stationary food truck outside, plus the bathrooms are in a building at the back of the property. They're nice though, even have AC. The food was pretty darn good and very affordable. Who knew plantains could be that delicious? Also very good burgers, especially considering they're only $11. $14 if you want a side. But still, other burger places charge $18 or more for something that's not any better, so this is a steal. Lastly, the drinks. All really tasty and well crafted, but maybe could stand to be stronger. Again, they're decently priced though so it's a balance. My spouse stuck to their beer selection & they had some interesting stuff you don't see anywhere else, but none of the ABV is listed on the chalkboard or menu, so you have to look it up. Plus it was a limited selection. He had 4 drinks and pretty much expended all the options they had available that seemed worth trying. Considering these are my only downsides, I'd say this place is a slam dunk. I look forward to coming back, maybe for a cross stitch session on the couch, who knows?

The flavor of the chicken was very good as well. The buscuit added that nice hint of sweetness that just tied the whole thing together. The tater tots were definitely crunchy, which I loved. They give you a very well serving of tater tots. I did not end up finishing mine, but they had great taste and texture. The lemonade was very refreshing, and it just hit that spot so well. It was appealing to the eye and tasted like freshly squeezed lemonade. Overall experience was 10/10, I would come back. The place gives off vintage coffee shop vibes even though it is not a coffee shop. Seating is definitely very limited inside. However, they do have outdoor tables with umbrellas which is a nice touch. Price-wise I would say it is a bit pricier compared to other similar restaurants I have visited. The total came out to $45 for two plates of the chicken biscuit and two lemonades.
