As far as cheap motels go, this is not bad. It was super clean in the room and both front desk attendants were friendly that I dealt with. The bed, completely awful, like bad. The shower, even for someone with a Keebler build such as myself, was way short. I am 5' 4" on a good day, and I feel like .5" more and I'd be crouching to stay in the water. The couch basically built into the bed.... Yea. I'm not sure I'd black light that thing.. IYKYK. But the room was very clean itself, and if you need somewhere to crash on a road trip or somewhere to sleep while shredding in Mammoth, then this will make a fine night sleep. If you aren't into sleeping, there is a bottle opener built into the sink, and that questionable pleather couch attached to your bed.... read more

You wouldn't mistake this place for a high-end resort, but after a long day of driving and deciding to hole up in Mammoth Lakes, this place was good 'nuf. The room was clean, it's in a nice location in town, close to shops and restaurants. It's just a convenient place for an overnight stop. And for one of those budget hotels, you can't really squeeze more out of these places so you have to temper your expectations. It's the second time I've stayed at this place and both times, they've been exactly what I expected, basic amenities at its most modest means. Yeah, the outside seems rundown and the curbside appeal can use some touch-ups. But as I always think, once you close your eyes for the night and you're a good sleeper, all hotel rooms look the same. read more

I love that they allow pets! I took my dog with me, and they even gave her a little treat--it felt really nice. The front-desk staff were super polite and welcoming. They had free coffee near the counter. The room was clean and well-maintained. We stayed during the 4th of July weekend, so of course it was pricey. There were three of us plus a dog, and the room felt really small. Once we put our stuff down, there was barely any space to walk. Honestly, that kinda ruined my mood. We could hear noise from the next room too. There wasn't extra toilet paper in the bathroom, but that wasn't a big deal. My dog adjusted easily--she's small, so that helped. read more

Remember this is a motel not a hotel. So not sure why others gave it low ratings. We were greeted by Sergio who was nice and friendly. It was snowing so badly he let us know our room was ready early and we could stay warm. He was quick and polite. The room was warm and very clean. No issues at all. The beds were clean and television offered most channels and HBO. It was quiet at night. With all of the snow they made sure spots were plowed and easy to get in and out of the parking. This Motel 6 is in a great centrally located spot in Mammoth. Great price for for our little pit stop. The room was extremely clean. My only 2 complaints are the bed and pillows are painfully uncomfortable, equivalent to sleeping in a floor... and the shower. If you are any taller than 5' 5" good luck getting under the shower head. It's a great little room if you are someone that can sleep on a hard bed. Perfect for a weekend snowboarding trip. read more

The AC was out in our room and other rooms and when I talked to the staff, they said their manager would come in and turn it on. I don't know why it wasn't already on, maybe trying to save money. The noise insulation is horrible and we could hear the people above us all night and even the pipes were squealing. We asked for a refund on our second night and went somewhere else. Upon contacting the 3rd party company we booked through(Expedia) as Motel 6 told me to do so Expedia could call them, turns out they only refunded me $20 of the $139.99 for the night I paid for and didn't stay. read more

If you turn the page back to last night, you'll see that I stayed in a Motel6 in Palmdale. My reasons for staying in a Motel6 have been many, but lately it's that the dog can stay with us free of charge. This room went for $140/night. And that was cool until I listened to the folks up above me strapping concrete blocks to their feet and having a dance party. That was so Incredibly unfortunate. Equally unfortunate was listening to someone else's pet bark all effing day and late into the evening. Otherwise, nice place. The downside is that there is NOT end tables on both sides of the bed. No blood, tweekers, needles, hookers, possible homicides. All good!!! read more

Absolutely terrifying and disgusting experience! Stay away from this place as far as possible!!! The only reason we ended up staying in this terrible, smelly, old and dirty hotel is because of the 395 road closure during a snow storm. They (of course) took advantage of this situation and charged us $270(!!!) per night per each room (we had 2 rooms). We had to stay for 2 nights because we had nowhere else to go. The room cards they gave us for one of the rooms had tones of issues and didn't work most of the time. We ended up using our friends' room to get into our room, since the rooms were connected. At some point, the door in between our rooms accidentally got locked and we lost access to our room, it was around 11pm. We went to the front desk several times and tried multiple cards they gave us to open our room, and none of the cards worked! They offered to sleep in a different room, but this was absolutely not an option for us - we were monitoring road closure situation and needed to pack and leave Mammoth Lakes immediately as soon as the roads would be re-opened. Thus, we needed access to our stuff, our phones and our car keys, so that we could pack and leave at any time, possibly even during the night or very early in the morning. Eventually, they called in a maintenance guy, and he couldn't open our room after multiple attempts. He ended up drilling a hole in the door that connected our room to our friends' room, so we could unlock this door from another side and finally get into our room. The kids were terrified and were crying from a very loud drilling and from this whole situation. We never asked for the hole drilling neither for any other damage, and of course we were never told we would be responsible for this financially (unbelievable anyone would even think of it!!). All we needed was access to our room, for which we overpayed a ridiculous amount of money. They called us in the morning and tried blaming us for the door damage and charge for it!!! We refused to pay of course. Additionally, the front desk worker (female) was beyond rude and unrespectful, and treated us like criminals threatening to take to court. The way this place treats their customers is beyond unthinkable, they simply do not deserve any customers. Period. read more

We had an amazing trip in Mammoth and stayed at the Motel 6. For an affordable price you get a comfy cozy room with a little lounge area, fridge, microwave and all the basic essentials. It's also walking distance to the slopes and to local stores and restaurants! We particularly loved that the front desk clerk Rudolph was supremely accommodating when we wanted to stay an extra day and was more than friendly, kind and welcoming! We had just come from a really excellent Motel 6 in Carpinteria, CA where almost everything was good. Our check in in Mammoth went OK with a friendly person at the desk giving us a map with recommendations. Parking the car, the first thing I noticed was the bent pole for the security light. Three in the parking lot had been hit by cars and bent. No cement protection was ever installed so they were sitting ducks. The ceiling of the walkway for the floor above us was coming apart and the damage was not limited to just ouside of our room but all around the motel. The bear proof garbage can ouside our from had graffiti written on it. The bottom of the stucco on the outside of the rooms was in disrepair. Over by the dumpster, the electrical box was very badly damage along with other pipes as seen in the photos. The sink in our room was tilted down and the insulation under the sink was coming off and unsightly. This Motel 6 is a wintertime cash cow with customers only interested in a place to sleep so they don't pay much attention to the condition and maintenance. While it's convienent with no fee or problems bringing a dog, we will find other places that do care about the face they present to the world. read more

Stayed here a couple of times in the past, and the rates were great. Then earlier this year I wanted to book a room on Booking.com and it was almost $900 just for four nights. I did call the hotel and said that's way too much for a Motel 6. That is almost a 5 star hotel price with all the amenities and resort. Glad that they lowered the price where it always should have been. I would have stayed there if the price was reasonable. Hoping they keep the price at Motel 6 affordable rates, the way the founder created it to be. Looking to stay here in the future. read more

I have stayed at Motel 6 since the price actually was $6. Well, Motel 6 has changed ... and not for the better, at least in Mammoth Lakes. It WAS clean and renewed with good bedding, and it was the cheapest option in Mammoth Lakes, where there is almost NO competition on prices. BUT though freshened up, it lacks many amenities I thought I KNEW they had. (This for our "Quadruple Room" ... the "Premium Quadruple Room" had most of these actually): No fridge No shampoo (even the very cheapest places have that!) No in room coffee (lobby coffee was passable) No toilet seat cover! (really? REALLY?) No closet section (2 coat hanger bars attached to wall by the TV) Minimal TV selection SMALL footprint (~12 ft x 18 ft for room/bath) In a word, a no nonsense, ABSOLUTE minimal design. I'm sure their design engineers are delighted "Look at how many people we stuffed into this tiny space and how drastically we cut the amenities!" I thought I had a good idea what Motel 6 offered - basic, lowest or lower cost accommodations. So I made the mistake of not looking closely at the "amenities" list. This Motel 6 was less than "basic" . BE SURE TO LOOK AT "Room details and photos". Motel 6 is cheap in Mammoth Lakes but nowhere near what we got in South Lake Tahoe the night before where the "3 Peaks Resort and Beach Club" weekday price was roughly HALF that of Mammoth Lakes Motel 6 for accommodations TWICE as nice as Mammoth Lakes Motel 6 and in easy walking distance of Lake Tahoe, Casinos, eateries, etc. Mammoth Lakes Motel 6 (weekday): 2- star quality - $123.83 total 3 Peaks South Lake Tahoe (weekday): 3+ star quality easily - $79.97 total read more

Although I've been coming up to Mammoth for many years this is the first time I've ever stayed at this hotel. Long known for its reputation as a budget chain, for the unknown that can conjure up a preconceived negative image. I'm only basing this review on my room and this stay. My first impression was that it was compact, recently remodeled and all I needed for the night. A place to sleep before skiing. I was somewhat surprised at a lack of a refrigerator. The absence of a dresser raised an eyebrow but was inconsequential to me personally. Checking in was easy and pleasant. What was a big negative for me was how thin the bedding was. So much so that upon first glance I wondered if housekeeping hadn't finished making the bed. On a cold night in the mountains, that's going to be unpleasant. And it was. Less isn't always more. I wish I could rate this place a 0! By far the worst Motel 6 I've ever been to! I don't have high expectations for hotels like this in the first place, but this place is shady & rude! I originally booked this place through a 3rd party site for $120.98 for 1 Sunday night . When I finally paid, I was charged $166.58!! It cost more than the fancy hotel I stayed the night before! Plus, it was a shitty view, no fridge, no microwave, no coffee, or any amenities of any sort. The front desk claimed it might have been an extra cost from the 3rd party for canceling my 2nd night which was not the case. I double checked & my cancellation fee was free. They claim that was the cost. When I went directly to their website to see the cost to book directly, it was $120.98. Unfortunately, I still stayed the 1 night because I needed a place to stay. On top of that, the workers are super rude & not helpful in any way. I stopped a cleaning lady to ask directions to the front office and she said she was "too busy" to help me. Seriously? PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE unless you want to get ripped off! Worst experience ever! read more

Unfortunate experience. Honest breakdown of stay. Checked in and unpacked. AC blowing hot air. Asked about it at front desk. Was offered another room. Packed up and moved rooms. Found that evening the sink was not draining and the plug was stuck. Contacted the front desk in the morning and was offered another room with two beds instead. Declined not wanting to pack and move again. Asked to have someone please look at it because we were having to brush our teeth and wash dishes in the bathtub. Not fixed the next day and when I asked about it that evening, I was told there is no maintenance on Sundays and it would be taken care of first thing the next morning. Not fixed the next morning. Got a call in the late afternoon that maintenance could look at it now. Declined as we are leaving first thing in the morning and frankly done with it. I attempted to contact the general manager via the email on his business card on the second day. No response. Front desk said they would have the manager check his email and respond. No response. We are leaving in the morning, but disappointed with my experience. Some of the front desk employees were pleasant to deal with and some made it more frustrating. In the end, we paid for three nights and had no use of the sink during our entire stay. Just giving an honest breakdown of our experience for you to decide. read more

It's a Motel 6 so I'm not expecting a luxury hotel. Prices have gone up since I first started coming here but it's still one of my go to places. Pros: -the showers are AMAZING, seriously best water pressure of any shower I've ever had, including mine at home! -no pet fee, this is great since I always travel with my dogs -option to upgrade to a room with fridge and microwave for a small fee Cons: -the bed was AWFUL, so hard and uncomfortable I couldn't get a full nights sleep at all -no coffee maker in the room (unless you wanted to spend another $10ish a night.... no thanks) -small rooms -HORRIBLE WiFi, we didn't pay for upgraded WiFi and the free WiFi was reliably unreliable....worked maybe 30-40% of the time Overall I'll probably still go here on budget trips to Mammoth but if I have the money I'll spring for a more upscale hotel with a more comfortable bed. read more

Well deserved review update here. I have stayed here numerous times and everything I wrote in my original review is still true, but there have been some updates. You used to have to pay for Wi-Fi in the room but it now comes standard and speed is pretty good. It's good enough to do some work (I'm "working" remotely ;)) and watch YouTube videos. Quality of customer service has definitely improved! Front desk staff is definitely more friendly and helpful. As of January 2021, you now have a coffee maker and hair dryer in the room. The rooms are small and you won't find luxury here, but the location and value are great. The shuttle stop is pretty close and there are many restaurants/shops you can walk to. Room tip: Get a room with refrigerator and microwave. It's only like $10 more and it's worth it. On my last stay, I was in Room 163 and found that side of the motel to be quieter and you have a nice view of the mountains. I've never had a bad stay here, honestly I don't understand the low ratings on Yelp. This is the best budget option for ski trips in Mammoth. In my previous review, I mentioned $120/night on weekends but those days are long gone... Now it's more like $200/night... it's still around $100/night during the week though. I like the location, for the most part it is centrally located and easily walkable for a young fit person like me. We walked with ease up to the mammoth village/brewing area and i even walked to shady rest park. But the staff was incredibly rude and unhelpful. They could not answer our questions, check in our friend into a shared room because the other person wasnt there yet, and the receipts they provided were so sketchy. We are required to submit receipts with our names on them to the government when traveling on orders, but for a shared room they couldnt get both of our names on the receipt. The janky receipt they gave to my friend had a page with charges from September 2022 on it (its july 22 right now)... very unhappy with how we were treated by the staff. Soap made my hands feel chalky. Atleast they were willing to provide extra blankets if you were too cold... Def would prefer to stay somewhere else despite the $$$.
