So it appears the Sierra Lodge has closed!! On my recent trip to Mammoth, I searched for this hotel on Expedia but it didn't come up, so I checked out the hotel's website and turns out it has closed! The building is still there but the hotel is no longer in operation. I heard Mammoth Mountain purchased it and turned it into employee housing (which, obviously, is much needed). So sad... I've stayed here numerous times in the last decade or so. It was one of those gems where the price was reasonable but the room is spacious and always clean. Sierra Lodge will always have special place in my heart! Glad I got to stay one last time over the July 4th weekend this year (at that time, I didn't know it was going to be my last time there). read more

The Sierra Lodge was all set to receive a nice solid 3 star review. Then on check out day, as I'm leaving my room, I noticed housekeeping in the room across the hall. There were four housekeepers talked in the room, one apparently a supervisor with the clipboard, and everyone's mask was pulled down around their neck. Earlier when one of the housekeepers saw me oh, she pulled the mask over her mouth. But this time I guess I caught them off guard. I've been here for three days and overall what I saw was pretty good covid-19 compliance. The front desk staff were wearing masks, and there was a hand sanitizer dispenser in the parking garage. housekeeping staff are one of the most significant ways you could catch covid-19 in a hotel. You let your guard down in the room, and you don't tend to sanitize every surface. read more

We booked for three nights. On arrival we found good covered parking, friendly hard-working staff to check us in, and a clean comfortable room. We asked for a top (second) floor room and received one. We felt safe opening the windows at night to cool down. Very little traffic noise from the main road. Good mattresses. Some issues: 1: Internet and TV stopped working just before we arrived. When it worked, at a quiet time of the night, we received 8 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload, which is a bit slow for uploading vacation photos. Hotel says it is the fastest available in town. 2: Without Internet, we had just enough cell signal (using AT&T) to read email and send texts but not to read the news. 3: Sharp nail in the floor next to the bathroom door and bathroom extractor fans did not work. Due to COVID-19, maintenance staff will not enter an occupied room. 4: The floor mounted AC recirculated the room air leaving the air perhaps a little less fresh than a window mounted unit. The AC cooled the room well, but after a while I found it a bit stuffy with 2 people in the room. This unit is noisier than some window-mounted units; the noise and lights may bother a light sleeper. 5: We smelled pot smoke about 7 am each day. While California allows the use of pot, the hotel is a nonsmoking property. 6: The walkway to the parking lot has breeze blocks with peeling paint! I discussed most of these concerns with the hotel via Expedia messaging and got some pushback. If I find something that needs improvement in a hotel, I tell them. Then the hotel has the chance to fix it and give the next guest a better experience. It would help if other guests did the same. read more

Horrible! Place advertised was clean and pool looked great. When we got there the whole place was under construction including the pool! Also, when we opened our room the room was a mess! The beds were not made and there was food and unclean dishes in the sink. We asked for our money back immediately to stay at a different place. The clerk refused. We left the place and put the charges on dispute with my credit card company. They were able to get a refund on my behalf after they reviewed the pictures I took alongside of the false advertisement online. Avoid staying at this place. read more

I normally prefer AirBnbs but this place was very well priced compared to comparable properties during the President's Day holiday. Room was super spacious and the bed and shower seem to be recently remodeled. It was also super convenient having a microwave and fridge in the room since no breakfast was offered. I also really appreciated the free covered parking, complimentary ski lockers, and jacuzzi after long ski day. Minor complaints include not having any housekeeping over a 4 night stay and loud janky doors. I would definitely stay here again! read more

Last year I came, rated this place a 2.5. Came back this year to find some pleasant upgrades that warranted another review. The carpet floor has now been replaced with laminate flooring which looked nicer & is easier to clean up. The bathroom got a nice tub/shower head replacement. It was white, clean, and there was always constant hot water. The continental breakfast in the morning still needs some work. Bagels, cereal & muffins don't count. The mugs for coffee need to be cleaned more thoroughly. Some were dirty when I picked them up. The hot tub outside still needs more power. The water is more warm then hot and there aren't any jet streams going on. It's probably more worthwhile to go to the hot springs out of town. The rooms are still roomy, and beats Motel 6. If you want a cheap option, I still think this is the place to go compared to Travelodge & Quality Inn. read more

Spend the weekend here and let's just say I was not impressed at all. Mammoth as a city was beautiful but when I checked into the lodge, 1st of all the staff was not friendly didn't even welcome myself and my family to the place just very straight forward and not friendly. The rooms are old, my room in particular had a bad smell, I told the front desk and they weren't to concerned about it. The sheets looked like they hadn't been changed, I opened the dresser drawers and there was clothes from a previous guest (just shows room are not cleaned thoroughly). The room was for four guest and there was only 2 sets of towels and when I asked for more they got upset. On my 3rd day there was no hot water (it was 17° outside) called front desk they said they would send someone, nobody showed up took a shower with cold water. Needles to say I will not be staying there again! read more

Booked this room for a holiday weekend. Almost $800 for 3 nights. NOT worth it. The front desk was super nice and accommodating. The room however was not nice at all. The chairs had screws loose which would've been ok however I have a little one who could've easily sliced their side if they hit it. The AC was a portable unit and took a whole day to cool down the room. The beds were so hard it was nearly impossible to get a good nights rest especially after hiking. The WIFI is terrible and was absolutely useless the whole weekend. There was roach killer patches (not sure what they're actually called) that were sitting under the sink, again not something safe for children. The locks on the room didn't work my son could easily open the door and get out, or someone who had a key could come in so that was really uncomfortable. The blow dryer went off because it got too hot after being in use for about 30 seconds. Overall I would not stay here again. read more

Room was very clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was well lit, and the tub/shower supplied very good water pressure. Overall the room appeared newly redecorated. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the hallways could use some redecorating and the continental breakfast was not offered. Understandably with COVID-19 concerns fresh food could not be offered, but packaged granola bars and yogurt would be sufficient. read more

Stayed here 4 nights and had no problems at all. Staff was super nice and rooms were clean. Kitchenette really came in handy with the big fridge and sink. Room was big with plenty of room to move around. Jacuzzi was amazing. Will definitely stay there again next time we visit. read more

The hotel is a little older and is showing its age, but the price is good and the location is perfect. There is a bus stop at the corner and your right across the street from John's and Morrison's. Parking is a little difficult if you have a tall or long vehicle, but with the free bus lines during the snow season I never had to move my truck. The hotel staff was excellent! From the top down. Our room had a kitchenette with a small sink. The hotel supplies dishes, paper towels, and even dish soap. I had brought some food with me and left my personal dishes in the sink to wash later and they washed my dirty dishes for me! Our room was made up daily and the staff was always polite and professional. It was supposed to snow heavily the day before we were to check out I was concerned with my truck getting stuck in the back underground lot. The manager moved his vehicle and allowed me to back my truck Into the front lot so I could load up and pull straight out! Great little lodge, If you heading up to Mammoth for a winter vacation and your needs are simple this place is GREAT. The building was built in the 70's and there is no AC in the rooms but there is major heat. The rooms are HUGE compared to other places in the area. King size bed, vanity area, microwave, refrigerator, iron, love seats, patio, and HEAT and HOT water. They also offer a free breakfast. Oddly, there are some complaints on here about a FREE BREAKFAST. Sure its just oatmeal, bagels, cereal, OJ, Milk, cookies, and fruit but ITS FREE ! They also have FREE WiFi in the entire building. They have FREE COVERED PARKING and the shuttle to Mammoth picks you up on the front steps. read more

This place is a solid 2.5 stars if you want to stay somewhere cheap and convenient. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms seemed nicely renovated. Our room came with a spacious fridge and a small kitchenette area, with a cutting board. Lots of old drawers and dusty old plates for food. Crap I didn't appreciate: - Being given a filthy room someone had stayed in and wasn't cleaned up. (At least that was rectified). - Getting confused as the cleaning staff by the front desk lady. Very casual. If you want fancy this isn't the place for you. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The morning breakfast doesn't provide any hot food so don't expect bacon and eggs. They have high carbs, bagels, english muffins, apples, juice, coffee, tea, danishes, to which you help yourself. They provide toasters which take a while to do so pack your patience if you want to wait 6-10 minutes. If you're doing a quick stay, that shouldn't be a problems. Most of the rooms are pretty large. If you can get a room facing outward, you might be able to get a room with a deck which in the winter when it freezes outside, you can store your liquor, meats and any frozen goods out on the deck. Keep in mind that occasionally daytime highs can be warmer than freezing so store your food properly. There's a wet bar in the room which means they have a small shallow sink, mini fridge freezer combo inside a built-in. There is some dish wear and silver wear but not coffee pot in the room. You can get coffee when the continental breakfast is out out. Oh, there's a tiny microwave that can do some basics, heat prepackaged meals or water for tea in the room. It's enough to get you by. After all the idea is that you get up early to hit the slopes right? The beds are extremely firm and old as well as mismatched draperies to the bed spread and carpet. Nothing matches. It reminds me of the Brady Bunch. Anyway, it suffices to rest your head. I've been told they plan to upgrade the beds in 2012. I've been here before 3 years ago and if they replace the beds, they need new linen sets also. I had to have them replace the torn blanket because it must have dragged too much on the floor and the seem was opened up with the fill showing. Also something to keep in mind before you lay down ON the top of the bed.. most hotels finer or not so fine don't wash their blankets so you might not want to lay on it or pull it up to your face. It's not fluffy for such a cold climate so you might want to bring your own blanket in addition to theirs. I know about it so I travel with a blanket of my own. Their lounge is the same place that has the breakfast. It has some ugly pink sofas but they are comfortable to sit it and a wood burning fireplace that they keep going at night with cut wood. Not a place I feel like going to hang out. The TV's in both the room and the lounge are 80's style so no flat panels. I don't know what they are waiting for to update. There's some inexpensive TV's out there now that if bought in bulk, the owner could get a better deal. Good enough for the price and a great restaurant across the street only about 15 yards away. read more

Dollar for dollar, this is probably the best value in the world of Mammoth lodging. With an AAA discount, we were in a large room with a king bed for $83 all in (there's no resort fee here) on Opening Weekend of 2014. The room was big and included a small deck, microwave, and mini-fridge. Underground parking is good and they also offer free, locking ski lockers for guests. Continental breakfast is also included. Better than most, there are pastries, English muffin, bagels, and cereal. And coffee. Lots and lots of coffee that's actually good. When's the last time you had good coffee at a free hotel brecky? :) Lastly, everyone we encountered from the front desk help to the maids were all great. It's also a short walk or shorter bus ride to The Village. read more

The rooms are quite large and have a small refrigerator, microwave, and a sink near by to rinse anything. The heaters are along the wall and take a few minutes to warm up but are far better than noisy fan heating systems that I have found at other places. Simple continental breakfast in the morning is included. read more

Only stayed here to rest for a couple hours since we got to town at 2am. Hotel was average along with the room but for the price we weren't expecting a top notch place. Only negative was that our room was super hot when we arrived and there's no AC. Tried turning on the stand up fan and opening the slider but wasn't much help. I have lived in Mammoth Lakes for many years ago and was managing another location. When we went back to Mammoth we did not stay at my old place but stayed at Sierra Lodge and loved it. The rooms were nice, big and clean and had a little kitchen area. There was a balcony out to the little grassy back yard and there was a jacuzzi. The livingroom was comfortably and the breakfast was the best we had on our three week long roadtrip. The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. There was parking in a garage so the car did not get wet and cold when the snow fell at night. The location was right on Main street so we were close to everything. I think that the price was just right we had two roms with two people in each room and we stayed for 2 nights. We paid $ 325,58 for the whole pack including breakfast and free parking. Such a nice place. We will definitely come back to stay at this hotel the next time we visit Mammoth Lakes. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at Sierra lodge. It's not the fanciest place I have been too but it has everything that I need for a decent price. It's a really good bargain for what you get. Braden our host was very nice and accommodating. He was able to help us answer all our questions about the area and also made a few jokes and made us smile and after a long drive it was exactly what we needed!! Management if you are reading this please give him a raise he definitely makes your establishment stand out from the rest of the inns I have stayed at in mammoth!! Upon arriving at the hotel the outside looks nice, a lodge kind a look. Once getting inside there is a horrible smell hanging in the entire hotel, some kind of wet dog like smell. The guy at the reception is kind of weird and the pre-charge you the full amount right away. As soon you see the hotel room you have the feeling going back in time. All the furniture is very very old, and worn off and surely needs to be updated. This hotel is defiantly not worth your money, we were so disappointed that we left directly the morning while we were planning on staying two nights in Mammoth Lakes. We went here in July '12 and had booked a last minute deal with Priceline. The place was a bit shady and to top it off...no A/C. Our little fam was so hot but luckily the indoor fan helped a bit...but just a bit. The room was as clean as it could get. The breakfast was comprised of carbs and fruit. OJ and coffee were provided too. It was free, so no complaints here. The staff was nice. If were are in the area again, doubtful we'd choose this place again but it was ok for the night. read more

Rusty is awesome and all of the staff are very helpful and friendly. The Continental breakfast thats included with the room isn't much but it does the job to keep you shredding all day Bagels! Bagels! Bagels! If your here to hit the mountain yes it's right outside of the town but its one stop on the bus that's free to get you to the gondola it's pretty perfect location. We walked back from town last night and it only took us 10 minutes or so. The jacuzzi is also kept super room which is much needed when your sore from hitting the mountain. read more

As some folks said, this is a really nice place for the right price. Not a 5 star hotel at all but an outstanding value and run by really nice folks. They have a nice breakfast and a good locker system in the garage to keep your dirty ski/bike gear in too free with each room. It's clean (though a bit dated in decor) but the beds are firm and the linens are soft. The soaps and shampoos are decent too, not the cheap crap they have at HOJO's or the TravelLodge across the street. Breakfast is always nice (simple but very consistent) and everything is clean and works well. Plus, they are right near Mammoth ski for both Canyon and Main Lodges so it's pretty much as close as you can get without staying at an actual Mammoth Property. They are across the street from lots of food and shopping too and a quick walk from our favorite ski shop: Footloose (see my other review). Most importantly: they go out of their way to make sure you have a pleasant stay, even when it's not their fault when something goes wrong: IE - two years ago, we stayed in the room above the main hot tub / living room area and the ice maker is there. Some guest decided he was going fishing @ 4am and needed to essentially empty the ENTIRE machine that time and woke our kids up doing it for a whole hour. The hotel (as most do) strictly prohibits you from filling entire coolers from their ice as it is for guests to use in their rooms so they stopped him once they caught wind but our kids where already awoken and screaming @ 4am. Mark (hotel manager) was so nice that even though it wasn't their fault and they did rectify the situation, he gave us 50% off our next stay anyway. Just classy and you wouldn't even get this type of make-good from a major chain for sure. Just nice folks with the right attitude and the right price. Me, my wife and our 2 kids have stayed here every year now for the last 3 years and it's our go to ski lodging place. I gave it a 4 for one reason. No Elevators!! Granted it's only a 2 story cozy lodge. If you are not from around here and not use to the air getting up those steps are literally a near death experience. They also need humidifiers as an option at least in the rooms because the air up here is very dry. I do like he fact that the rooms have kitchenettes and dishes. The place is affordable and clean. Basically a simple cozy lodge . It's also right in front of the the shuttle stops that pretty go every in town. It's very convenient. They come with fans. I'm guessing for summer. They have a laundry room They have a jacuzzi They have a lounge which is where they have the vending machines and also where they serve continental breakfast every morning. The guys that work the front desk are very helpful and friendly. So if I wanted to come up and enjoy the mountains and go some where affordable I would definitely come here the just need to work on the elevators. read more

A bit pricy but it's conveniently located in main street and has the free shuttle stop to the village just a few steps outside. The staff was friendly, room was decent and the common living room it's a nice place to hang out in front of the fire while sipping some tea after a day out in the snow. The complementary breakfast it's very simple but convenient if you plan to head out early. They also offer free skies lockers and covered parking. The only cons it's how to find the entrance! The main door and sign was completely covered by the snow , there was no sign in guiding the customers towards the parking entrance. Overall we had a great stay! read more

Its not an upscale hotel but the price and location are great! You could walk to many of the bars and there is also a shuttle that comes every 30 min. The staff is super friendly and helpful - drew us directions to the hot springs which are about a 20 min drive from the lodge. They have cards and board games you could rent out. Hot tub was cold when we first went in but the staff got it fixed quickly. The room was clean. read more

All rooms showed balcony and I didn't get one main thing I wanted, requested to switch room they lie saying they didn't had one that maybe the next day they will but once I call Expedia about this issue to get a refund or switch hotel 5 min after or less I had made the request they say they did had rooms available making me look like a lier! So I decline and decide to move to a different hotel! Top it up the room phone didn't even had service!! And now they don't want to give me my money back!! While this ain't no Westin, it's a perfectly serviceable, if plainly decorated hotel. Not sure what the other (hater?) reviewers were looking for, but as dog owners who aren't willing to pay top dollar when we come down to ski, this place is the top pick in the 1-2 star range. We've stayed here a number of times, as have other family members, and it's very good value for money. What does it have exactly? Clean (if sparsely decorated) rooms with a fridge, microwave & a few plates/mugs, cable TV (Comedy Central!!), a hot tub, free wifi, covered parking, conveniently located to the bus stop and within walking distance of a number of restaurants. And while there is a serviceable continental breakfast, it's no buffet (were you really expecting that with the rates you paid?). But really, with Schat's Bakery across the street, you have options if it's so awful. Nice owners, decent rates (even during Thanksgiving!) , and dog friendly - a combination that is not so common in Mammoth Lakes. read more

I don't know why the reviews were so bad. We got this place through Priceline at a good deal for a weekend night for a full day of riding up in the mountain. The breakfast bar was just like other continental breakfast, beds were comfortable, no hassles, no complaints here. And it was located close to the slopes. Had to change dates, from a Friday / Saturday to Saturday / Sunday. Everything sounded fine over the phone, checked in late and figured all was well. After snowboarding for the day, I unlocked my room to find another group of people staying in there! I never received a phone call, email, or anything from the hotel. They just removed our stuff, and said nothing until we went to the office. They didn't even attempt to remedy the situation. Never stay here. The receptionist on duty pretty much just bailed on us. Fortunately we found a much nicer hotel/spa called the "Sierra Nevada Lodge," nearby and they took care of us. Seriously, sketchy business going on at the Sierra Lodge. read more

Not bad... The room itself it nothing fancy, though felt really big. I'ts older but clean and doesn't smell. It has a small kitchen-net... very small... but is handy with a microwave, sink and mini-fridge. The thing i liked best is the little vanity/seat area next to the door. It's a great place to put all your wet snow covered gear w/o tracking snow into the rest of the room. Really roomy for all your boots and bulky jackets, etc. It has underground parking which I've never been more happy to have since it saved my car from the snow storm :) It's right next to Angel's and the red line shuttle stop, so very convenient for some good food and transportation. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Sierra lodge I think I got the most bang for my buck the room was perfect size not too big not too small regular hotel bathroom refrigerator great view and I saw bears at night going into the restaurant across the street's dumpster I've seen many bears but never so close I was kind a neat but unfortunate that they were eating the garbage the restaurant across The Shuri the restaurant did lock the dumpster but the bear somehow I locked it make sure that you empty all of the food and smelly stuff out of your vehicle or you may find out a bear has been your vehicle when you wake up in the morning there's bears everywhere bearware read more
