The staff is very welcoming, and again, I cannot thank Kati enough for being there for me as well!

While no company is perfect, I have found the employees to be hardworking and genuinely trying to help customers. Many negative reviews often come from situations where customers may be frustrated with financing outcomes or other circumstances that are not entirely within the employees' control. One thing I appreciate is that the staff takes the time to explain protection plans such as MaxCare. For customers purchasing luxury or higher-mileage vehicles, repair costs can be significant, and these plans can provide valuable peace of mind. Rather than viewing it as a sales tactic, I see it as an option that customers should seriously consider. Overall, my experience with CarMax has been positive. The staff treated me professionally, the process was straightforward, and I would recommend CarMax to anyone looking for a quality used vehicle.

Poor Management, Wasted Time…read more I drove an hour to this location after reserving a vehicle online. The website made everything simple -- that's where the good experience ended. When I arrived, I waited about 20 minutes past my appointment time. After sitting down with the salesperson, I learned the car I came for had open recalls and couldn't be sold -- something they texted me about 30 minutes before my arrival while I was already driving. No earlier call, no meaningful notice. I had already been there nearly an hour. Management offered a $300 shipping credit (only usable at that location), which wouldn't even cover the typical shipping cost. They refused to apply it elsewhere or cover full shipping despite the inconvenience. Gas reimbursement required a printed receipt from before leaving -- unrealistic. I decided to look only at cars physically on the lot. I clearly said no white cars and no compacts. I was repeatedly shown white cars and compacts. Eventually I purchased a different vehicle after another long wait. During the test drive, the tire pressure light came on. I was told it was handled before delivery -- it wasn't. The car was also handed over dirty (filthy rims) and missing the actual emergency key -- I was given a plastic cover instead. The salesperson was polite, but management failed at communication, preparation, and basic follow-through. I've bought from CarMax before with no issues. This location was a completely different experience. I won't return. Four hours in-store for this level of execution is unacceptable.

We drove about two hours to get there, so we were hoping everything would line up. Overall, the experience started off really positive. Russell, who helped us during the test drive, was friendly, easygoing, and professional. When we asked about getting a pre-purchase inspection (PPI), there was no issue at all. They were open to it, and we signed the paperwork and took the car to a local shop we had already researched. That part of the process went smoothly. The inspection cost us $120. During the inspection, the mechanic found a few concerns, including a leaking rack and pinion and brake components that would likely need replacement soon. We already knew one key fob needed to be replaced since that was disclosed during the visit. Based on everything, we were looking at roughly $4,000 to $5,000 in upcoming repairs. The car itself was nice but not perfect. It had an aftermarket (carbon fiber) hood with visible scratches, visible sun damage on the spoiler and roof edges, and a few other cosmetic imperfections that we were willing to overlook. Taking all of that into account, we made an out-the-door offer of $29,000 and discussed it with Chris, who Russell passed us along to in order to go over numbers. Unfortunately, even after sharing the inspection findings, the dealership was only willing to come down $500 from the listed price, and that was before taxes, license, and doc fees. We were not expecting a dollar-for-dollar adjustment based on the inspection, but we were hoping the $4K-$5K in upcoming repairs would be reflected more meaningfully than a $500 reduction. That gap didn't really reflect the condition of the vehicle in our view. Because of that, this ends up being a 4-star review. Russell and the overall customer service experience were genuinely good, and the PPI process was smooth and hassle-free. The only real disappointment was the lack of flexibility on price after legitimate mechanical issues were identified. One takeaway for anyone shopping for a used car: always do your due diligence and get a pre-purchase inspection. It can easily save you thousands and gives you a much clearer picture of what you are actually buying. In short, good people and a solid process, but limited willingness to adjust price based on inspection results.

Was there some strange software glitch that caused stacked and overbooked appointments? I might be sympathetic if the issue had been addressed/explained. Just know if you go, even for something fast and simple (see other reviews like Anthony D's if mine isn't enough), plan to be without a car for days. 12 days for me for a visit that should have taken one or two days at the most. One way they handle the problem of not being able to get the work done is to just not answer the phone and ignore the text message thread they create to communicate. Basically my car sat in the parking lot most of those 12 days, so all I can do is guess that they way overbook and do not have enough technicians. They don't explain the cause of the delay and they don't apologize. I do know they ordered a part that was delivered the next morning - so being unable to get parts wasn't the issue. I'd planned on getting the minor repairs, then trade in my car. I already had a new vehicle picked out on their lot, but after the service fiasco I don't care to do more business with them, so I'll be purchasing a car elsewhere. I will say the repair seems to be fine so far.
