I spent a couple of months looking for a used Mini Cooper Countryman, on Carmax, Caravan, Craig's list, Cargurus and other local dealers before I decided to drive the 100 miles to Oceanside, CA to Motorcycle Gallery. Buying a car used is a big decision that can have many pitfalls if you don't make the right decision. They had FAR AND AWAY THE BEST SELECTION, and I ended up finding my absolute dream car! And because they specialize in Mini's (it's all they do) and service them, they know these cars inside and out. This is very important because most mechanics don't and Mini's (BMW) are notoriously expensive to service when something goes wrong. Fast forward 3 weeks after my purchase, and the engine malfunction light went on as I was driving down the highway. I went into a full blown panic thinking I might have bought a lemon. I took it to my personal mechanic locally and after 2 hours of looking at it, they could find nothing wrong?? Mitch asked me to drive back down to Oceanside so that his mechanics could take a look. It took them no time at all to find out what was wrong with the engine. There were a couple of simple issues with the Turbo that they resolved that afternoon. If I had taken my car anywhere else they probably would have told me I needed a new Turbo and charged me upwards of $3,000 to put in a new one. Mitch charged me absolutely nothing, not even for the parts and the car is running smoothly again. Even better! Incidentally, while I was waiting I observed their whole operation, casually spoke to the mechanics, the car detailer, and Mitch and came to the realization that they are good and competent people who take pride in their craft. In late January of 2019 I decided to buy my first car. Mitch sold me a 2012 Mini Cooper S for a little over $9K, which was overpaying considering the vehicle having over 94K Miles at the time of purchase. But I overlooked it because I always loved mini coopers and I was looking so forward to owning one. Well Mitch pried on my ignorance. When my husband and I went to test drive the car the break light and tire pressure lights were on. I knew I wanted to buy the car and he told me he would have the lights off and fix the problems before I pick up the car on Saturday. Come Saturday I pick up the cat &the pressure light is still on, they told me "it's resetting & takes a while to turn off" so I believed them and left with my car. 2 days go by and it finished resting, THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I texted Mitch twice over the problem and it took him a week to respond back to me, when he finally did he had me bring the car back in and they put more air into the tires, reset it again, and sent me off. Again, once it reset the light turned back on. I immediately text Mitch and he says he's going to make me an appointment with his friend at discount tire. Another week goes by (so now we are over halfway through the companies 30 day warranty just waiting for things to get fixed) until the appointment with Mitch's guy. The Mini needed 2 new pressure sensors, like okay, WELL the guy told me Mitch said he would cover HALF OF IT. although I was TOLD WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED BEFORE TAKING IT HOME. so I paid the $50 or $100 just to be done with it. But that's been no where near the end of problems I've had with this car in the year and a half Ive owned it. Basically after the nightmare it was to deal with the tire sensor & how unknowledgeable the mechanics were I DID NOT want to keep having my car serviced there, plus Mitches waiting game ate up my whole warranty and didn't even fix all the problems I brought to his attention. The first time the car was put into the shop was just 3 months after buying the car. The gear shifter knob broke, the wiper fluid never sprayed (which I bought to mitchs attention) it needed a new air flow filter, 2qt. Of oil, all new spark plugs, and all new coils. I had driven the car under 4K miles since owning it. The next time it was out in the shop was exactly a week later on 4/17/19 after the cars engine died in the freeway. My new shop held onto my car over 2 weeks running tests and diagnostics and unable to figure out why it shut off. So I then took it to a specialist for an oil change & 40 point inspection. They had to COMPLETELY rebuild my violent system because THE WRONG TYPE OF COOLANT WAS PUT INTO MY CAR BY THIS "DEALER" and it ate through and damaged the whole thing. The car has shut off a handful more times, still being unable to find the problem I take it back to the specialists who had to take the engine apart and test each component. The engine has EXTENSIVE repairs. So after already spending $2,500 into fixing my $9k it now requires $5K to fix the bum engine it got sold to me with. If you made it this far into my headache, welcome. I hope it's irritated you as much as it has me. Moral of the story here is PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING HERE. ANYTHING. read more

Came in looking to buy a 2010 Mini Cooper in a beautiful metallic blue color. I had called the day before to confirm the car was still available and Mitch told me someone was planning on buying it already but hadn't given a deposit so I was welcome to look at it. I was already pretty sold on the car given the pictures alone but I still wanted to look at it in person. I'm not great at using a manual so my dad was lucky enough to drive the car, during said drive an airbag light came on and the speakers only worked on one side of the car. We got back and immediately brought those issues to Mitch's attention, assuming he already had someone else interested he would want to fix those asap. He assured us the airbag light is normal and they fix it all the time but speakers issue was something new. He asked a tech to look at it and he just said "yeah its the radio" so I asked who installed it and Mitch said they had done it in their shop. That kind of irked me the wrong way so I said I would think about buying it and get back to him later. I called back the next day, a Saturday, to negotiate price further and he budged going down by 200 dollars on a 6900 dollar listing, seemingly to make a sale, and asked for a deposit to confirm my interest. I said I would think about it again and called back 10 minutes later, unfortunately i got sent to voice mail so I left a message saying I would like to leave a deposit and asked what his information was so that I could Zelle him the deposit. I called to try and give a deposit a second time on Monday morning only to get sent to voicemail again, a few hours later I get a call from Mitch saying he saw my voicemail and called me back saying he had someone else coming to see the car and that he wanted to wait till after they had looked at it before confirming a deposit from me. He said he would've taken a deposit earlier if only I had called him back on Saturday or Sunday. I did call him back on Saturday and was sent to voicemail and check their hours, they are closed on Sundays. I just now got a call from him saying he took the other persons deposit on the car, nice of him to let me know the car had sold. Overall, pretty unprofessional given we already had an agreed upon price AND I was trying to send a deposit as soon as I could. I still give 2 stars as he was polite while speaking but actions speak louder than words in this case. read more

Mitch, owner of Motorcycle Gallery is another dishonest unreliable businessman!!! Found a great deal on Carfax. On Tuesday, we called the number listed to confirm it was available. Spoke to Mitch and he said yes. My husband told Mitch that we would be there Saturday at 1200 to purchase the car. We also gave him our names and cell numbers just in case there was a problem. On Saturday, we drove to Oceanside from Chula Vista (56 miles) to purchase the car just to learn the it was sold two days prior. This information came from the mechanic so we explained the situation and ask him to call the boss. We over heard the conversation. Mitch lied and said we (my husband) never called. He also said the telephone number we originally called was a wrong number. Of course he was lying so while standing in the shop we called the number listed and guess who answered, "Mitch!" Wow right?? I know...! As Mitch realized he was caught in a lie, he tried to sell us a higher priced car. We then told him that we have only the exact amount for the purchase of the other vehicle. DO NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THIS PLACE! I came to San Diego for work and needed a car for just three months. Because rentals were a minimum of $1500 month at the time, I decided to buy a car. There's no way I'd loose $4500 in 3 months, right? Mitch assured me the car was in great shape with no issues. WRONG. When I went to resell the vehicle, there was a third party inspector, who informed me that the car has FIVE oil leaks, a likely coolant leak, and an alignment issue from what was likely an undisclosed accident. All of which, I have been assured, were problems that Mitch would have be FULLY aware of before selling me the car. I was upfront and expressed my upset... the only solution presented was to buy the car back for less than the offer that has since been revoked because of the mechanical deficiencies. As you can see from several other reviews... gaslighting seems to be a common business practice at Motorcycle Gallery. I bought a low mileage 2008 CBR1000RR from the Motorcycle Gallery 3 months ago, in spite of the lackluster reviews posted here, because the bike seemed very clean and exactly what I was looking for. Overall, I left there unhappy with the service and the transaction but satisfied with the bike. Since then, I have noticed some very scary "details" about the bike while doing regular maintenance. These things should have never made it past any mechanic or dealership. First off, the transaction: I had the full amount to purchase the bike. It was listed on cycletrader.com for $8500, and in the shop the sticker said $10,200. That's fine. This is normal for Internet specials. However, after showing them the kbb value was $7,995, and offering to pay cash, they still refused to drop the price below the Internet price. I ate the $500 difference because I liked the bike, and Mitch sold me a fender eliminator at cost (I saved about $50). So I go to buy the bike, after a less than friendly negotiation session, and Mitch will only allow the transaction if I bring $3000 in cash and the remaining balance in a cashiers check. This seemed shady, but I did the ATM shuffle and complied. Then he tried to charge a $80 document blah blah fee which I refused. He wasn't happy but still sold me the bike for $500 more than it was worth. (Thanks) Then came the funny part. I drive it away from the dealership, make it onto the on ramp and the f*cking gas light comes on. Real classy. I guess that's where they got their document fee back. I texted him from the side of the road and got a smart ass reply several hours later saying "good thing you got such a great bike. Otherwise you might be mad at me..." Over the next couple of months, I've found almost every nut and bolt on the bike to be barely finger tight (including the axle castle nuts). I'm writing this review because after the 1000 miles I've ridden the bike in 3 months, I changed the oil this weekend. It had 0.7 quarts in it! It needs 3+. I know these Hondas burn oil, but nowhere near this rate. It was obviously not even considered when selling the bike. These guys depend on 20 year old service members with no business experience and fresh deployment money. Don't let your friends go here. I tell all my sailors to shop elsewhere. read more

BUYERS BEWARE. I bought a car there in December, and the car is already being junked after owning the car for just over one month. I payed 5k for the car and specifically asked if there were any issues I needed to know about. After about a few weeks I could tell there was a weird idling issue, but I had already started driving to work in another state. Fast forward to the engine seizing on me on the highway almost causing an accident, I am without a car and 5k in debt. The transmission and engine costs to fix are over 2k in costs. He seemed like a nice guy and I understand the car was used, but with only 76k on it when I bought the car, there's no reason for this to happen after just buying it. ( Considering I also took it to a car shop and got all the fluids checked and made sure no codes were popping up.) The warranty was only for 14 days and there is nothing I or him can do but please, do not buy from here. Due diligence on my vehicle was not performed and I was sold a CLUNKER. I called the Bureau of Automotive Repairs who cited them as responsible for the damage, yet they still refused to pay for repairs. Took them to court and used the BAR's Report as my evidence.
