So my dad recommended Steve from Motorpool as they work with them a lot for his companies cars. Initially I had gone in because I was pretty sure I needed my brakes along with my rotors replaced, as-well as possibly my calipers, as another spot stated at one point that they could've been miss aligned due to the fact that when I had got my brakes and rotors replaced that the brakes had ground down unevenly. So when Steven and his crew when to go check everything, everything looked great. No brakes, no rotors, and definitely no calipers needed to be adjusted or replaced. They even went and replaced my fog lights for me as my dad was initially going to do it but they were nice enough just to pop them in. The appointment, payment and pickup process is mostly automated online which was a little confusing at first, but should be straightforward for a future visit. This place reminded me to review them by spamming me on my cellphone for a service 7 years after visiting them. I was a naive new car owner then. They made me change my filters on a new car (complete with scare tactics) in addition to the oil change. They stuck a sticker on the back of my car for a 10% discount on 'labor.' While they had provided a discount on the upcharged labor they also upcharged me for the filters. Basically they charged me two times the OEM price. Must be really hard to procure them I guess. This is the place to get a nice fleecing as a new car owner so that you are forced to learn from your mistakes and invest more time in understanding the wants and needs of your car. 'Never trust a mechanic' has been my motto as a car owner thanks to this place. Talk about a dark origin story...lol read more

Started service with Motorpool a few years ago due to the good reviews. Four different cars later with a myriad of regular/routine maintenance and other unique issues and my experience has been outstanding. Currently, they are working on something that's a bit of a project. Honestly feels is more like a buddy down the street helping me out than an indifferent shop. They have gone above and beyond. I would've loved to do the work, just don't have the hours. They've been very responsive, communicated proactively and been very fair. Capitol subaru sucks and Motorpool rules. 2 years ago I bought a used 2012 subaru Forrester X. I bought it knowing I would need to replace the timing belt and water pump so 2 years ago I took it to capitol subaru and replaced the timing belt and pump. To the tune of like 2400 dollars. Last week the check engine light came on with the traction control light. I took it to MP and they said it was so low on coolant the thermometer wasn't even reading the temp. This is a review about their spectacular service last year. I have moved from Santa Cruz to San Jose and my 2010 Subaru had so many things that needed to be done: water pump replaced, timing belt, suspension and shocks for both front and rear, among other things. They threw in free alignment and replaced a wheel lug stud. Yes, they were kind to my old girl. That was in June 2022. I brought my car here for a radiator issue and couldn't be happier with the experience. There's a key drop, text updates, and a link sent via email to pay the invoice, the process is great if you are busy and want the work done correctly and efficiently. Motorpool Automotive used OEM parts and were significantly less expensive than the dealership. When there was a problem (a hose broke), they called to inform me that there would be a delay and chose not to charge me for the additional labor. To be fair, Motorpool has good customer service, and performed the work quickly and properly. Only time I have ever actually enjoyed getting the oil changed! Seriously. First thing I saw when I walked in was their arcade size Street Fighter game in the lobby. They're "waiting room" felt more like hanging out at home, except there wasn't any beer :) Played Mario kart on the SNES and watched The Office on Netflix. There was an assortment of snacks, coffee, tea, sparkling water, etc. Also, it was only time I've ever talked to mechanics and not felt like a moron that just got screwed over. The owner Steve, and one of the other guys, (I'm sorry we didn't get his name) spent time listening to us and answering our questions about our other vehicles, did some research for us, took the time to explain everything to us, and seemed happy to do it. It is obvious that they are very experienced and knowledgable, but the fact that they are so down to earth and straight forward is so unbelievably appreciated and rare these days. Came here yesterday after waiting at a jiffy lube because whoever was supposed to open didn't show. Look on yelp and found these guys. Called them and they were willing to take me in on short notice for an oil change. Big points! Waiting room is stocked with lots of treats! Biscotti, Doritos, granola bars, Fritos, cup o soup, tea, coffee... and they were playing the new Jurassic park on tv. Definitely better than other places! Plus it's clean which I can't say for a lot of auto places. Prices are better than competitors for oil changes and these guys seem different in that they don't gouge you for everything other places do. They give you what you need and that's it and you are welcome to take their suggestions or not. As a side note, I heard one of the employees dealing with a difficult customer on the phone and was impressed at his calm demeanor and ability to explain the issue to the customer and try to offer a resolution. Definitely showed they try to take care of their customers. Would definitely be back. *Only suggestion is that they really should ask customers before putting a decal on their car.
