I came to Moulin for a Sunday afternoon pick-up around 1pm and they still had a few pastries available - I could see that hold sold out of some of their other offerings already. The service was welcoming and kind, and I loved the windows and wood accents inside which made for a nice relaxing atmosphere - it was a beautiful day outside so I sat at one of the many small foldable chairs/tables outside. The offer adorable plates for pastries to enjoy there. I got a lemon verbena pastry, and a fig leaf latte. I like that their offerings are a bit unique, and the pastry was delicate, tasty, though a little less crisp that I'd like - perhaps because it was later in the day? The fig leaf latte was also tasty - though I couldnt really taste a big difference between the fig leaf syrup and vanilla - it seemed to be missing a little something to really bring out the fig leaf flavor. Overall, a cute little cafe to grab a pastry and coffee at, and I'd like to come back earlier in the day to try some of the other pastries! We came by for a quick bite before heading out to the wineries. Love that Moulin opens early and we arrived before the crowd on a Saturday morning. I got a fig leaf latte and a cafe strié to-go and both were delicious! I loved the housemade fig syrup which was fruity and floral - I asked for my latte half sweet which was perfect for me as the half sweet was even a bit too sweet for my taste. The cafe strié is an espresso cream filled pain suisse. The pastry is flaky with a nice crunch on the outside the the espresso cream was luscious without feeling too heavy. I was such a fan of this and we'll definitely have to go back to try more of the pastries the next time we're in downtown Napa! read more

My favorite spot for coffee in napa area. Love that they use camelia coffee beans here. The coffee menu always rotates with seasonal drinks. The coffee drink i got is their espresso long shot which was chilled and perfect to sip on. . I love their pastry here and always get their croissants plain, so flakey and buttery. Love the flavor croissant as well. You can't really go wrong with any of the pastries here, they are good quality and definitely made with love on the first bite. . The service here is friendly and the line does get long. The line moves quick though. . Ambiance here is casual and plenty of seating outdoor and indoor is limited seating. Super cute coffee shop in Napa. This place was wedged in an ally way but I started to see signs of people holding coffee and I knew I was close! I went on a Sunday morning and everyone had the same idea. There was a line out the door and what I thought was going to be a quick coffee run was a bit of a wait. I ordered an oat milk vanilla latte and ordered a hot latte with whole milk for a friend. When I handed my friend my coffee, he was instantly amazed at the taste! I noticed that they served their coffee in smaller coffee cups which is always a good sign to me! I prefer the 6oz cups of coffee because there is a better espresso to milk ratio that balances the flavor of milk and espresso especially in a latte! I find that 8oz+ coffee cup sizes tend to drown out the espresso in milk. So the smaller cup sizes really played out well in the final taste of the coffee. I didn't order any pastries but the people around me were gluing themselves to the window trying to see what was left. All of the pastries looked crispy and made with delicate care. This place is worth the wait. If you are impatient I would say try to go during the week, but honestly the fresh pastries and delicious coffee and house made syrups are worth it. Decided to give Moulin a try after seeing the wonderful reviews online. The location is awesome in a hidden alley which can be hard to find but there's plenty of tables outside. There is also a really cool pinball arcade bar right across the alley way. The cafe itself is very clean and modern. We came around 11am in hopes they didn't run out of pastries which they didn't! We got: 1. Flan Egg Tart: Really good tart crunchy crust and very fresh. The inside didn't really taste like Flan but just like a normal Portuguese egg tart. 2. Chocolate Croissant: Very crunchy/flakey with good quality chocolate inside. It wasn't as warm anymore but would have tasted amazing if it was still mildly warm. 3. Hojicha latte: This was the best part of the order. I really liked the roasted hojicha flavor and it was perfectly sweetened (ordered it lightly sweetened). Tasted quite aunthentic and I could see the barista preparing it. They make their matcha drinks the traditional way whisking it and not any pre-made powder stuff. Overall, great cafe. I recently tried this bakery with my husband and daughter and we really liked the focaccia, raspberry pastry and turkey sandwich. The staff was weird: the woman at the cash register does not understand tea and insisted that all teas are practically the same (it is NOT and if you do not know, just do not say anything!) and the guy at the coffee machine had a weird attitude calling out the orders in the lowest voice possible: even standing in front of the counter we could not hear or understand the names called out. They served my tea without the tea bag and it had not been steeped long enough so it was not good! This is a major discovery for me - a cozy space selling fresh baked goods AND quality matcha is enough to visit Napa more often. I wanted to try a variety of pastries but there were only one kind of pastry, egg tarts (reminds me of Macau egg tarts) but this has a thicker shell and the egg custard had lots of vanilla bean for 5.50 each. They are also pretty small, maybe 3 bites. Everything else was savory. They had 3 kinds of Focaccia bread (Spring, pepperoni and one more kind) for 8 dollars each. They had sandwiches that looked really boring. A small granola cup. An entire bar of French butter for 10 dollars (see photo). Random. Service was good and minimal (get your food, pay and sit down or to go). There is a clean bathroom inside. The patio gets full very quickly. This place is nice for a quick drink and snack but for lunch, it's too limited and it's definitely lacking in pastries to be considered a proper bakery. Finally was able to try Moulin. Located in downtown Napa. Street parking is always tricky but once you pass that, it's fine. I walked on Franklin Street and almost missed it. It's tucked in an "alley", for lack of a better term. I stopped in my tracks because I noticed a line out the door. There were a few customers ahead of me and I was crunched on time, but the line moved swiftly. It is a tiny bakery with a few seats indoors but more tables outdoors. They didn't have a large selection so I ordered two pastries similar to a croissant: a lemon verbena and mocha. It was hard to read the tag. I didn't buy a drink because it would take me longer, but another reason to come back and try their coffee. The employees were friendly, kind and patient. I got the turkey pesto sandwich to go. Once home, I cut it and heated one half. I had bites that were heated and not. In my opinion, heated was easier to eat as it soften the bread. My husband ordered standard drip coffee and I ordered the fig leaf latte and we both enjoyed them. They also make their own bakery and bread items from scratch. We ordered the thyme and Gruyère quiche, and the egg sandwich. The quiche was awesome very flaky and the bread on the egg sandwich was very good as well. Highly recommend the egg sandwich. I wish we would've ordered two of them because they were so good. The place is not very big so there's not a lot of places to sit and it's around the corner kind of hard to find so it's more of a grab and go place. So if you want something quick if you're staying in the downtown area at one of the hotels highly recommend this place because we went back to our hotel and got the free coffee they had this coffee was way better so we were glad that we forgo the hotel breakfast to get something from here. read more

New French bakery in town? Mais oui, don't mind if we do! Moulin (which means "mill" in French) has been such a great addition to Downtown Napa. For those who may not know, Moulin had already been popular at the Napa Farmers Market for a while, so now they've upgraded to this adorable little brick-and-mortar bakery/cafe just off First & Franklin. My hubby and I were excited to check it out, especially since we were just in Paris not too long ago hunting down all the best bakeries and cafes. We definitely loved the French vibes here, and although we didn't order any coffee, we definitely made a point to try a few of their pastries and bread. Here's what we got: Vegan Focaccia Bread - fluffy, delish, topped with caramelized onions and olive oil, omg so good (and kudos to them for having vegan options!) Sesame Seed Wheat Loaf - nice crust on the outside, soft on the inside and full of flavor (amazing warmed up and dipped in olive oil which is what we did once we got home!) Croissant - light and airy, soft on the inside yet super flaky on the outside (if a croissant makes an absolute mess when eaten, then you know it's good!) A quick visit to their website and you'll see that they focus on naturally leavened (sourdough) breads and viennoiseries using a variety of organic whole grains that they mill in house on a stone mill (Moulin!). The practice of natural leavening makes wheat easier to digest as the fermentation process begins the digestion process.
