Completely underwhelmed by this place. First off, when we went to pick up our online order 2 of the staff were not helpful at all...the first guy we spoke with seemed to be looking for our order but then went to make a coffee, and another guy who we thought was looking for our order started helping another customer at the deli. Finally we had to ask another worker who was most helpful and found our order sitting right at the pick-up counter all along. Next, the food: we ordered a baguette sandwich and pesto chicken salad. The baguette was hard, the shaved ham was bland, and there was a foreign substance that seemed like a piece of braided string in the sandwich (which was the same color as the fat in the ham, but obviously not edible). Salad was also bland--pesto flavor barely detectable on the chicken, the dressing weak, and not to mention some of the leaves were starting to turn brown! read more

The large parking lot, spacious shop and patio made it inviting for those of us who follow social distancing and mask protocols to feel secure. The shop part had various items for anyone homesick for France or comforting favorites from your childhood or trips. If you want Orangina, Lu cookies, or dish towels for a Francophile, this is a great place to shop. By 1pm on a weekday, the cases were already low on some of the most popular items, but there were enough choices to make the trip worthwhile. They had a few baguettes left, so that alone was worth the drive, especially since it was done in the traditional way with nice crunch on the outside and chewiness on the inside. I got a few croissants for the next morning (very good rendition, but I missed the butter and flakiness of Proof Bakery or Delvigne), a Madeleine (HUGE and very buttery but a bit dry) for the drive back, a chocolate eclair (a great version for chocoholics with great creamy filling and ganache top) and the apple tart which was fantastic, with taste and perfect balance of crust, frangipane, and apples that matched the beauty of the presentation; my favorite pastry of all! read more

It's a cool little place. We were just driving through the area and needed to just grab some stuff on the go. Kinda wish we were able to eat in - we would have had a better experience for sure. It's never the same when getting take out. We ordered up some croissant sandwiches, a granola with some yogurt, and some lemon crepes. Oh and some coffee to go. Again, we got all of this to go. The sandwich was okay - the eggs and bacon had a nice ratio to them. Nothing special. The granola and yogurt was actually really good. Not sure if they are made in house or just bought in bulk and put together. I'd pass on the lemon crepes - they had an artificial flavor to them. Oh we also got some eggs and fresh herbs. I know it's personal taste, but I've been to a bunch of places to just load up on the butter to fry the eggs. This is one of them. I know it's the traditional way, but I prefer just a touch of olive oil. I wasn't able to finish. Coffee was okay, but I'm sure it would have been more enjoyable if I sipped it on the patio in a proper coffee mug. We're always in the area and will be sure to try this place out again. I enjoy coming here! The outside patio is able to accommodate a large party, which is nice. It's first come first serve so it's very laid back. I will say the chairs are pretty thin and wobbly, so if you're heavier set it would probably be very uncomfortable. There isn't much seating inside as the deli and bakery take up most of the space. I like the menu items, but have not been a fan of the deli premade options. The sandwiches are bread-heavy and because they are sitting cold, the bread is not soft. However, I will say the bakery is delightful. Every pastry that I have tried is delicious! My absolute favorite is their almond croissant. A small, cozy French cafe that serves sandwiches, salads, soups, and pastries. I came here around 8:30 am on Monday and it was super busy already! The chicken pesto sandwich was big enough to share amongst two people and it was fresh and delightful. The baguette is amazing! The French onion soup was a little too salty for me, but I loved the combo between the savory cheese & croutons. I would love to come back for the croissants and palmier. They also sell different varieties of cheese, French snacks, and fruit preserves so I definitely want to grab a few on my next visit. read more

Updated -- They offered to give us another cake instead with a quick turnaround. My only comment would be on the box design. It's very easy to get the box unlatched and accidentally drop the cake. Maybe some tape apong the edges would help hold up the box while we take it out of the bag. read more

Such a cute restaurant! Ordering was a little confusing my first time because the line to order your breakfast items is the same as the line for pastries/desserts (I can see it getting really long during the weekends). After placing your order, you walk over to another counter to pick up your coffee. Behind the drinks counter, I believe people were ordering already-made sandwiches paired with salads (looked delicious - will have to try it next!). We ordered the Croque Madame and L'Omelette Moulin (mushroom & pesto chicken) - both entrees were delicious and came with a perfectly sauced side salad. All the staff members were extremely courteous and sweet and there were plenty of seats for outdoor dining. Staff members were quick to clean up/wipe down tables and bring out requested items like condiments/extra utensils/etc. Would rate it a 5 if prices were a little better but I get it, you're definitely paying for quality here. Glad to finally say that I've visited Moulin after living in Irvine for almost a year and a half now. Service is incredible with the staff being very patient and offering suggestions for the pastries. My sister and I ended up ordering their Pain Aux Raisin, Apricot Danish, Hazelnut Chocolate Bar, and one of their coffee desserts. Would recommend their Apricot Danish and Pain Aux Raisin for sure. The danish was a great balance of tangy and sweet and the Pain Aux Raisin was just delicious (must try for yourself). The Hazelnut Chocolate Bar was WAYY too sweet... even for me who had a sweet tooth. It was also on the pricier end at around $8 so it was a bit disappointing to spend that much and not be able to finish it because it was just that sweet. The coffee dessert was too sweet too but not as much as the chocolate bar. I did however enjoy how light and smooth the cream was. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The food, the variety of bakeries and the ambience are wonderful we love it. The only thing that we were disappointed about was the Gift Card that we received as a complimentary reimbursement. What happened was that I brought my family there for a Sunday morning breakfast months ago, and we ordered some food. One of the dish contained a short butcher's twine, so we showed and told the waiter about it, and we were then given a complimentary reimburse for a $20 Gift Card. After for sometime, remembering that we had the Gift Card, and as it was my wife's birthday, I decided drive over to Moulin and use the Gift Card to purchase her favorite cake. To our disappointment, the Gift Card given by them previously was denied. They claimed that the card was not valid as it was not activated, and the employee insisted that they normally activate it when a Gift Card is issued to customers. I did not know what was going on at that moment but I was surely disappointed and upset because the employee also said to me that sometimes people leave the table forgetting to take their gift card, resulting in other people stealing it. I told him that we wouldn't do such a thing taking other people's left behind gift cards. After the employee said this it really upset me. However, I still bought my wife her favorite birthday cake without having to use the un-activated complimentary gift card. All I can say is that from the beginning, they did not activate (or forgot to activate it) from the moment when we received it months ago. The food here is delicious and the ambiance charming. However, the service can range from very good to poor. Yesterday, I ordered some salads from the cold case to go. I ordered several different salads that were put in a large plastic box. The beet salad was already packaged by Moulin separately. Instead of weighing them separately to account for the tare weight of the two boxes, the cashier weighed them together, so that only the tare weight of the large box was taken into account. See picture below. One another visit, my family and I were charged the price of a tuna and veggie baguette when one of us had gotten Le Nicois. We ate there and discovered the mistake later, so that it was too late to rectify. At other times, I have ordered Le Nicois and been charged $12, even though the price on the menu is $10. This place gets suuuper busy! My parents took me here for a birthday breakfast and we went on a Saturday morning around 10am. Parking was rough and it makes you feel anxious because it seems like everyone is running towards to get a spot in line for this place. The line to order was getting long and I can tell the cashiers were working diligently to get orders in quick to keep the line moving. One thing that helps with the wait are all the items you can look at. From jams, cheese, crackers, wine, etc. it made the wait in line pretty quick because you're just taking everything in. Normally we love this place but this time my mom got a salad (we normally just get sandwiches for a quick lunch) and they initially charged us $20 for this salad. My mom went back to make sure this was right and was met with a rude cashier who assured her that it was right. My mom then had to ask what the price per pound was and they said $12.99 per pound. There's no way this salad is anything close to 1.5 pounds. She then had to ask them to weigh out the salad and the cashier said it came out to around $5. Then the cashier called the manager over who then proceeded to tell my mom that the salad was actually around $9 because the price per pound was $14.99. I have no clue how a $2 per pound increase almost doubled the cost of the salad. On top of that my mom noticed that the cashier had overcharged another customer by around $30! PLEASE CHECK THE WEIGHT OF YOUR FOOD!! I also find it really disingenuous that Moulin doesn't list the price of their salads but what can you really do about that. read more

Hands down the best almond croissants in O.C. - the closest to the real deal you can get in France... they're hot meals are also delicious (Croque Monsieur) and they make an amazing iced passion tea that I tried for the first time yesterday. I got the large Pistachio/Orange Bûche and a large Mont Blanc cake, two Christmas staples in France. Both got amazing comments from my friends and all the plates were empty even after a solid festive meal! I appreciated the nominative greeting inside the cake box from the owners' family, nice touch (maybe the famous French touch?) I had left over to enjoy the next day and it was still such a delightful treat, prove of the freshness of the products that were provided!
