The service here is very authentic and very French. The staff speaks both English and French. The energy is fantastic you can see and hear and feel the difference between American food culture and French food culture. If you're looking for a little slice of France in Orange County, look no further! Moulin is a friendly French cafe located in a strip mall bordering Irvine and Newport Beach. I recently went to France and can confirm that the food here at Moulin is just as authentic and fantastic! The owner is from Montmarte and he is so friendly. I saw him conversing with the customers, asking how they enjoyed their meal, etc. They have a very efficient process where you stand in line and place your order with the cashier, and then sit down and wait to have your meal brought out to you. The food comes out fast, no matter how crowded or busy they are! I went there for lunch and ordered the classic Le Croque Madame, which is a housemade grilled ham & cheese sandwich with a sunny side egg on top. It was perfect and just as I remembered it in France. One of the best rotisserie's I've had and the frites are just perfect. I wish they had Steak Entrecôte here that would be a gem. Some solid sausages and butter as well, wish they had some salami's or at least Jambon de Paris to purchase for home. The bakery side is equally amazing. Fresh proper French baguettes, a killer Tropézienne, remarkably delicious eclairs, and more delectable pastries that are simply perfect when it comes to French patisserie. I love the ambiance here. Food is overall decent for a cafe. The two star review is simply for the Christmas cake. Please do not order from them. 2018-while buying some pastries, the owner/manager boasted that the Bunche de Noel was "the best". We opted to order one. Upon arriving, we were given a complete different flavor and was told "sorry something went bad with the batch". It would have been nice if we received a call about it, rather than tinting out at store...and get this, they offered "if you don't want it, you don't have to take it now"; common it's Christmas Eve and towards the end of the day, who would want to drive frantic around town to find a cake. If I received a call in advance, I would have opted for it. 2019-we decided to give it another chance because the decorations was cute the previous years. This time the owner/chef provided assurance that we would receive the flavor we order as "I wasn't here last year". We did get the flavor, however, it was so plain, it was disgusting. We were hoping the decorations would be the same as 2019 but no, it was so simple that it can bypass for any occasion, but Christmas, cake. Yesterday my friend and I were here a total of two hours . They lost my order then they were late getting my girls panini to her . Long story short I came back today after trying to order on line . No matter if it has been at the restaurant, Café or store we have always received impeccable service. Our children have always been welcomed and treated really well (more like spoiled, really). I mostly come for the Pâtisserie, I admit. The (petites) Viennoiseries are excellent! It totally reminds me of France If you're here, you really must try one of the tartes (if you can stick to only one) My faves are the Pear and the Apple tartes. They also sell European candies, sodas, Champagne Taittinger, wines, condiments, soaps and dishcloths (at least, that is some of what we have bought). It's a fabulous store. Oh, and chocolate. My French professor was raving about this place and i knew i had to try it! I didn't get much but what i did got was so so so good and tasted so much like the food i had in France! My favorite thing was the croissant! I ate too of them and they were so amazing. Nice a flaky, buttery and they tasted fresh! Lots of love in them! Next time i go back i need like six more. Second favorite thing was the pate, with mustard and pickles on a baguette. So so so good, the pate was delicious and rich, went so well with the crispy pickles and strong mustard. Every time I'm in Orange County I must make few visits to Moulin. The food is so good and fresh, the pastries are out of this world. The café is so FRESH AND TASTY it reminds me of the amazing coffee you get in France, however I was so disappointed when I went to get a refill but was told no refill, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW COFFEE, right after my husband got a refill with no problem. My husband went to the counter with my cup and was told NO FREE FEFILLS so he asked to speak to the manager, the lady he was talking to said (I'm the manager) he told her that a place like MOULIN should get their rules about coffee refills straighten out because it is confusing the costumers. There is definitely a need to post this in the store by the register and on the menu. I came for the first time at 2pm yesterday not realizing they have limited items left in the day since they close early. I was a little sad they didn't have any of the pastries left that I came looking for. The cashier was very apologetic and said they sell out quickly and that I should try ordering in the morning. She sold me on some other popular items to make my trip worth it. This morning I called and placed my order for all my favorites that I've been eyeing on their Instagram. In the past two days, I've spent over $125 on a variety of items but if I spent $100 on just their Friand Ham and Cheese and their Mille Feuille I'd be so happy! Just those two items were worth the 30 minute drive! I tried the Parigot ham and cheese and Moulin chicken pesto. The chicken pesto is tastier than the ham and cheese. The Salade Moulin is good. Not heavy at all, so you might need something else to fill you up if you're trying to make this a meal. The Friand pork is delicious but it's not proportional when you bite into it. I tried to cut it into 3 for me and my kids and we unfortunately got all varying ratios. The Friand ham and cheese is perfect for sharing since it's proportionally perfect! The Eclairs are good but the Chocolate Hazelnut and the Mille Feuille will knock your socks off. I was worried that their Mille feuille would be soggy and not crisp, but it tasted SO fresh! Greek salad is ok. Baguette and their Artisan loaf bread are good, especially paired with their Plateau de Charcuterie et Fromages. Everything was delicious but I wish the cheeses were labeled so I know which one to buy next time. We tried the Friand pork, chicken and ham & cheese. We liked the pork and ham and cheese better than the chicken. Coming from Anaheim was totally worth it. I wish they could add pistachio macarons to their menu. I drive all the way to Glendale's Laduree to get legit French macarons. I hope Moulin can be my new Orange County macaron spot one day :) read more

I get so excited when I find really good French cafes and this happened to be one of them. The staff was so friendly, especially the chef. Their carrot salad, cucumber salad and sautéed spinach was delicious. The cheese and ham sandwich was very good, but be prepared because it's very heavy and loaded with cheese. The raspberry/chocolate mouse was phenomenal..I definitely preferred mouse over the eclair. I was also so happy to hear that Moulin is opening up a location at South Coast Plaza! I met a friend here for a late breakfast on a weekday. I was surprised how busy it was. There is a good amount of seating both indoors and out on a patio but very few tables were empty. You pick up a menu at the front counter then order at the register where you are given a number on a stand to place on your table; your food is brought to you in a jiffy. If you order coffee, however, you must go to the other side of the counter and wait for it then take it to your table yourself. First I retrieved the Americano I ordered and took it to our table. It was strong and bold-flavored; excellent. I ordered the eggs benedict with ham which also comes with a salad. I was brought eggs benedict with salmon. Unfortunately I am not fond of salmon. As this was the first time I'd dined with this friend I didn't want to make a big deal about it and make us wait for them to re-make my dish so took a few bites without making the "yuck" face then tried to discreetly push the sliced salmon under the salad. Even without the salmon I'd probably rate this dish "okay" - I've had countless eggs benedict breakfasts which were much better. Adjoining the restaurant is a small bakery and store. The store sells a variety of French products such as jams and crackers. The bakery has a visually appealing array of pastries. I decided to grab a pastry to eat later and chose a chocolate eclair. By "later" I mean once I got into my car. It was chocolatey on the outside with whipped chocolate cream on the inside - quite tasty but honestly it was more fun to look at than eat. And at over $5. a bit too pricey. I totally get how so many people are enamored of this place but the charm was lost on me.
