Decided to finally stop by to try out this spot for breakfast. But I was very disappointed how rude staff was and food was not very good. I ordered veggie omelette and my husband had Le Croque Monsieur. My omelette was cold and my husband food was not fresh, it tasted and looked like it had been sitting in a display case was reheated. This review is only about Moulin's customer service. Today, 12/09, I stopped by the bakery to pick up some croissants. As expected, there were a few people in line and the line was moving quickly. When I reached the head of the line, the server asked if I wanted anything from the pastry case. I replied that I did not, all I wanted were croissants. She then waved me to the next person and proceeded to help the customer behind me. As I patiently waited to give my order, I watched as the server who waved me on proceed to box all of the almond croissants for the person behind me. I looked at her and said I hadn't been helped yet and all of the croissants were now gone. She said no and waved a bag with one croissant in it. I asked how did she know what type and how many croissants I wanted. Her reply was that when someone says croissant that means plain croissant. She then handed the bag to another person and told them to ring me up. I have been going to Moulin since the establishment opened and I have never been treated with such disregard as exhibited by this woman. Her tone and manner were, simply stated, rude, inconsiderate, and a poor reflection on Moulin's customer service. read more

Two stars foe food, 1 star for coffee. Again, it could be me but I was disappointed in the breakfast dish I had, Le Croque Madame. The dish looked as though it was going to be buttery and flavorful, but that was not the case, it was bland to say the least. I will say the pastries were 4 star. What was most disappointing was the coffee, I mean worse than complimentary from a hotel room. My wife and and daughter are not avid coffee drinkers and they said the coffee at Moulin was like drinking hot colored water. Nothing better than a fine French pastry and a delicious cup of coffee, you won't find that combo here. Urth cafe has very good coffee(Spanish latte) and flavorful food and the pastries are good too. What a great place ! Just push the door and you are in France. It starts with a little French Market where you can find all French specialty food that you really miss (when you've been away from home a long time) such as cookies like Pepito, barquettes, BN, Bonne-Maman jam, crème de marrons, drinks like Orangina and some really nice wines. But you will find also soaps, kitchen linen and other cute little accessories for your kitchen. I was impressed with the large selection of food they offer. Cakes, danishes, breads, everything made with authentic French recipes. It smells so good and looks so delicious that you want to eat a little bit of everything, very hard to make a decision. I opt for a flan, very simple cake that I didn't have for ages and I took a Brie Walnut sandwich to go for my lunch. The bread is so perfect soft and crunchy I could have eaten 2 more of those !!! They also have a large selection of salads, fresh fruits and few hot dishes too. You can eat inside or choose to seat outside where they have a huge patio with nice red umbrellas. I could spend a full day there by myself eating the best French food I had in LA area so far and look at the crowd walking around the display cases and wondering like me : "what am I going to eat today ?!?" Although at the busy lunchtime the nice and helpful staff goes out of her way to answer all my questions since I have one allergy with certain ingredients. Plus to my surprise and I am impressed that one of the cooks came out of the kitchen to make sure that some other ingredients were ok with me. It's been a while since I got my nails done so I decided to get them done and stop by Moulin next door for some breakfast. The baby was starving so I figured I'd give him some protein. I ordered a croissant stuffed with eggs and melted cheese. It had a salad on the side. This is literally the perfect portion. Also you get your greens at breakfast on the side. Came here on a rainy day for a weekday brunch and I really enjoyed it. A friend and I ordered the eggs benedict, croque madame, and the french toast. Nothing disappointed! The french toast really stuck out as the winner of the morning. It was what all french toast dreams of being. The bread was simultaneously perfectly crispy on the edges and custardy in the middle. It was lightly sweet, with no need for any syrup, and served alongside fresh berries. I would come back for this any day! read more

I recently revisited Moulin since writing my 2 star review and was very happy to witness some great improvements....there is no longer someone shouting coffee orders and it was easier (but still needs improving) the process of paying for your purchase. This time around I just had pastries and juice. But I had the food in the past and happy to say the food has never disappointed and is authentically French in everyday. Perfect place for lunch on a sunny day befitting of SoCal. Moulin has a really nice outdoor patio where you can enjoy whatever sandwich of your choice while sipping on a cafe au lait. My go-to sandwich is the ham and cheese panini (extra crispy). The simplicity of the sandwich is what makes it so great and you're able to taste the ham and cheese melding together on a perfectly crisp panini. It's served with packets of mayonnaise and Dijon mustard for which a little goes a long way. Also, the coffee is usually served with these thin dark chocolate sticks. I will not say no to chocolate. If you're coming for lunch, I suggest coming before 1pm as they start running out of sandwiches pretty fast. It looks like they opened a new restaurant next door and I can't wait to try it soon! read more

Moulin is an experience and not just a restaurant. From the moment we stepped inside we wanted to look at the beautiful display of merchandise and was also pulled to the tempting array of French pastries. We selected half a dozen pastries along with the Croque Madame, a baguette sandwich, quinoa salad, beets, pasta salad, and sausage. This was Sunday, Mother's Day, and Moulin was extremely busy, however we were able to find a wonderful spot by the fountain with the help of their Staff. Wish I got the waiter's name because he was so attentive and nice, got us our place setting, butter and jam for our croissants, and answered all of our questions, as this was our first time. Every single item we tried was delicious, the best French food we've had in OC and yes, it did remind us of our trip to Paris! While enjoying our brunch, Laurent Vrignaud, the owner of Moulin came over to greet us. He was dressed to work and was busy cleaning tables and assisting customers, but he was so present and delightful. It was wonderful to meet Laurent and hear his stories, he even came back with gifts for us! Thank you, Laurent - you are truly an exceptional restaurateur! A delightful stop in a busy day. A friend and I arrived noonish on a Saturday, and with almost all the patio tables occupied, I was afraid that the best pastries would have been already purchased. But, this bustling, little cafe still had a good selection of beautiful cakes and typical French standards, both sweet and savory. My chocolate-almond croissant was delicious, flaky with both chocolate filling and almond filling, not just topped with almonds. My friend ordered two different little cakes, both beautiful, delicious, and very rich. Had there been the sound of an accordion playing, we might have believed to have been transported across the pond. There is only street parking, with meters. First time visit to Moulin for a healthy breakfast after an airport drop-off. What a pleasant surprise! The cafe is clean!! with fun decor, extremely helpful staff/team that helped guide my husband and I thru the process of how the place operates (2 diff lines based on the food you are looking for - very efficient). Shout out to the newer staff guy who explained the menu to us. You were a most gracious "field guide" for us. Ordered the Omelette Paysanne and it was unbelievably tasty. Like Wow! The greens were ever so lightly brushed with a vinaigrette and combined with their coffee, we enjoyed the perfect morning breakfast combo. Want to come back for more soon. Will try their Laguna location next, since we live closer to that one. The staff that monitor the outdoor seating (both near the fountain and all around the extensive patio) were always on top of the cleanup/patron assistance tasks such as grabbing extra napkins, utensils etc. Such a nice change as compared to restaurants who are lacking this simple service. read more

We walked in pretty clueless because there was a food display by the line, but I asked one of the team members how it works and she explained it so I was able to navigate my way through. You walk in and have the decision to order from the menu and/or the items they have in the fridge displays. You pay at the end and find a seat. I've always wanted to try a croque madame and this place did not disappoint. We also got a savory crepe - crepe complete, and the french toast. Croque madame was cooked to perfection and the crepe complete was soooooo different, in a welcoming way. I've usually had sweet crepes. I think the star of the show and my favorite, was the french toast. It was so different from all the other french toasts I've ever tried. It was soft enough to where you didn't need a knife to cut into, and the orange butter... wow!! The fruits and salads we got on the side of our croque madame and crepe was fresh. The vinagrette on the salad was just lightly tossed so it was super delicious. The pastries and desserts were a beauty to look at (far back end of the restaurant)! Croissants, cannelle, madeline were all delicious! So much adorable knick-knacks and artisanal french ingredients, too. Would love to come again. We went for breakfast (3 adults and 2 young kids). After waiting almost 45 minutes for our food, we inquired about our order when we learned it was never sent to the kitchen. The manager that was there was extremely apologetic when he learned what happened. He went to the kitchen and made sure our food came out quickly. He comped our meal and brought the kids juice and treats. The omelettes were delicious. Although we waited a long time for our food, the manager made up for it with the incredible customer service. Let me start by saying thank goodness there isn't one close by me! I happen to be in the area and wanted coffee. It was between Pan Du Monde or Moulin. Pictures on yelp somehow convince me Moulin! The place is a seat yourself and order at counter restaurant. You order the pastries at the pastry section and hot food at the sandwich counter. They give you a number and will bring your food to you. Coffee is available at both counters. They have wine and champagne bottles everywhere!!! Yassss it's my kinda place! You can order regular champagne or mimosas by the glass for $8 or purchase your own bottle at the cold beverage section. I only came in for coffee, but saw the pastries and had too, I mean just had too try their pastries as well...oh and sandwiches! Everything looked so good! Coffee was great, but pastries was amazzzing! I order the almond croissant, apple bread, pear tart, and flan cake. Pastries was fresh and light with the right amount of sweetness. It went so well with my coffee! I also order the croquet monsieur and Nutella crepe. The croquet monsieur sandwich was delicious! It was rich and decadent. Fruits that accompanied the sandwich was ripe and sweet. The Nutella crepe was chewy and sinful! Do not come in hungry or fool yourself you're coming in for coffee. I had no control when I saw all the yummy pastries and sandwiches. It's a clean restaurant/store with the cutest decor. The servers were attentive and food came out quickly. The tables were clean quickly so you don't have to wait for too long to be seated. It's a great spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch! Walked in and right out as soon as I witnessed every singled employee handling payment then picking up baked goods with the same gloves. Answering the telephone, taking cash, credit cards and one even used the pin pad for the customer and then rearranged the macarons right after. Very friendly, helpful, and appreciatively unrushed service -- and efficient (set down my just-filled cup of coffee to get my pastry and my table was cleared and my table was taken by others!). Beautiful display of pastries (wish I could taste each one!) and fun watching the creation of these treats (chocolate eclairs were being prepared during my morning visit). This 1st visit consisted only of coffee and croissants (butter and almond - I enjoyed the almond more; the butter croissant was only OK) but so eager to return to experience their other offerings. I'm a regular customer here. This morning I ordered: 2 chicken pesto sandwiches, an omelette, beets salad, and Sesame noodle salad. The sesame salad was extremely salty. I told the girls behind the counter and they agreed that today the sesame is saltier than usual but did nothing about it... quite disappointed. Unfortunately today i was greeted with some nasty attitudes from the manager julia only because i simply requested to take one slice of cheese out of the sandwich due to a lactose allergy. She was really rude and told me that was not possible even though all she had to do was simply take the cheese out before grilling it. I have this place bookmark for several months now, and have been very much looking to coming here. Must say, it was a load of disappointment. Or as of all, the ordering process is pretty confusing, with no clear signs of where to go to order food or the pastries or the coffee beverages. Once you figure that out, and you order at the register, you find your own seat. Totally fine. However, it's pretty crowded during lunchtime and was like a madhouse in here today, with little direction from staff. They have a strict policy on no substitutions. I find this to be extremely ridiculous type of customer service, given the fact that they're operating in the middle of orange county, where people have dietary restrictions restrictions and preferences. Therefore, I find it ludicrous to operate a business where such modifications are not allowed. It can be as simple as removing a meat item and adding an egg. It's really not that hard, nor a financial or logistical stretch on the kitchen. Fine. We dealt with it. Then we went to pick up our croissants. And another set of disappointment! They adamantly refused to rewarm our croissant, saying that it was me just this morning. Honestly, doesn't matter to me if it was me five minutes ago. If I asked for it to be reheated, you should do it. Not that hard. And if it is hard, then make it easy. I would love to hear back from management on why they're so rigid with their policies. But on top of all this, I think they're overpriced. And I don't think it's anything worth paying for. The croissants were solid but could've been better had they been fresher or warmer. Oh and after all of this, thr food came out cold. Needless to say, I won't be coming back here. -- Update: this was the response I received from management - attached in the picture. Please help me understand what it means, or how that's supposed to help me give it another chance. -- I continue to receive unprofessional responses from the business owner. I came here with a friend for a Saturday brunch/early lunch. It's kind of a combination marketplace and cafe. I ordered Le Crepe Complete which has ham and some kind of delicious creamy sauce in it. It was lightly fried on both sides so it had a nice crunchy outside and was very cheesy and creamy on the inside. It came with a green salad on the side. I also got a single macchiato. FOOD: The sandwiches here are so delicious! They are on baguettes. They don't contain any dressings so they don't get soggy. My favorite is the bayonaiz SERVICE: The service is always friendly. They get very busy and it can sometimes be a bit slow, but I've always encountered friendly and helpful service even when it's a bit busy. AMBIANCE: The outside area is ADORABLE. There is ample seating and a beautiful fountain. This is a great place to enjoy some breakfast/brunch/lunch, especially when the weather is nice. PARKING: Lots of free parking but again, it can get very busy and difficult to find spot. read more

I finally got a chance to try Moulin a few days ago and I was really impressed with their bakery. Their pastries are incredibly beautiful and so delicious! I purchased the chocolate eclair, tiramisu, opera, and butter croissant and the flavors were all on point. They are on the pricier side but I enjoyed every bite. I also purchased a baguette and their olive & rosemary bread which were just okay- they were a bit tough and not that impressive. They were quite busy but their staff seemed courteous and helpful in moving the line along. read more

To be very clear--we love Moulin & would come more often if we lived closer. Today, upon biting open a shared omelet, we discovered the cheese we ordered was missing. We called over a server to complain & he said "Next time, let us know before . . . " In other words--we should be able to see what's inside without biting into it. Co-server with remade omelet 15 min. later walks past every table trying to guess which table it belonged to & took it back inside to our server. Our server brought the omelet back out to our table --no apology--so we felt guilty for asking for cheese we ordered. Next table--man waits 30 min. for order, complains to server, waits 10 more min. to receive his sandwich --no explanation, no apology. Moulin mostly has very attentive/thinking servers but a few who require more training. We understand & have experienced that restaurants are competing to employ good help. We will continue to visit Moulin but feel obligated to make you aware. read more
