The lady serving us was very welcoming and prompt. We got cumin lamb, pan fried xiaolongbao, and wonton soup. The cumin lamb was authentic with rich spices that go so well with rice. The thin crust of the pan fried xiaolongbao added a nice crisp to the juicy dumplings. The wonton soup was also very comforting on a rainy day. The place was quiet and great for conversations. So disappointing. Awful food and shockingly bad service from start to finish. We should have known better based on the empty yet dirty, unbused tables on the front patio. Once inside, we waited 10 minutes to be seated even though the two couples ahead of us were just paying/picking up and no one was at the host stand. Ordering took another 10 minutes because the QR system kept glitching, failing security codes, and eventually locked us out. To make matters worse, the menus we were handed had half the items crossed out with marker. When seated, the waitress oddly gave us soup bowls and chopsticks -- but no water, no plates, and no napkins. We would spend the next hour repeatedly trying to get those basics. After ordering six mostly dim sum dishes, we tried over and over to flag someone down. No luck. Other tables were clearly frustrated too. The table next to us sent back undercooked pork dumplings. Another table complained they'd been trying to pay for an hour. About 20 minutes later, scallion pancakes arrived -- but we still had no plates. Unable to get anyone's attention, we ate a few pieces leaning over the serving dish. The pancakes were limp, greasy, pale, and unpleasant. Another 10-15 minutes passed before more food arrived. The pork shu mai was decent, but you only get three pieces for about $7 -- overpriced. The xiao long bao (10 for $13) were bland and tasted like frozen dumplings. The steamed BBQ pork buns (only two) were small, chewy, and clearly reheated -- grocery-store quality at best. The pork and shrimp dumplings were worse: hard, dry, super chewy wrappers and poorly cooked filling. When we again asked for plates, napkins, and water, they tried to give us sauce bowls instead. Eventually we got plates -- still no napkins or water. After another 20 minutes of trying to get attention, we were finally given a carafe of water and small orange tea cups. Everyone else had normal water glasses. Still no napkins. I joked they didn't have plates and water glasses because the dishwashers were cooking the food?? Over an hour in, we still hadn't received our beef chow fun. The server eventually asked if we had "gotten it or not" -- clearly we hadn't. We waited another 20 minutes. When the beef chow fun arrived, it was terrible: cheap egg noodles, barely any beef, overloaded with raw and cooked onions, and drowned in a gloppy, overly salty sauce that tasted like bottled Oyster sauce. Even Panda Express does this better. That dish alone was $17. We immediately asked for to-go boxes, yet were told to "take your time," which was baffling after waiting so long. Paying was another ordeal -- you could order, but couldn't pay through QR option, and other tables were still unable to close out. One table had to walk to the host stand out of frustration. That same table had kept borrowing our table's condiments because their table had none and they also couldn't get server. We went in expecting a quick dinner and instead got servers who couldn't provide simple basics like plates, napkins, or water, couldn't bus tables, and couldn't close checks efficiently -- all while serving bland to terrible food at high prices. We paid $70. For the first time ever, we didn't leave a tip. If basic service requires asking over half a dozen times, that's unacceptable. Also having served in college, while busy, the number of servers seemed sufficient...they were just bad at their jobs. $35 per person for bad food and worse service does not work for us. My second time coming here and both times have had consistent quality food! Their soup dumplings are definitely comparable to Din Tai Fung in flavor, although dumpling skin was thicker so harder to eat a lot of. Their cucumber salad and spicy wontons are so delicious, I'll definitely be back for those 2 specifically! The hargow (crystal shrimp dumplings) were also great but again, the skin was too thick. I'd definitely get the fried rice again because it was seasoned well and meat wasn't dried out. I would skip on the honey walnut prawns, which tasted way too artificial and sweet for me. Service could definitely be better but I think we came during a lull, so the employees were all eating lunch. We got to see them roll our fresh dumpling wrappers though! On the 6th day I brought my foodie bestie to the restaurant and she loved it as much as I do! She'a an expert chef and world traveling food expert and she has since brought every member of her family here, one at a time. The food is something you have to experience! If you're a fan of Din Tai Fung, get the Xiao long Bao. You will not regret it! The Zhong Dumplings compliment those well with a little kick. The Steamed Barbecue Pork Buns are like lotus flower shaped clouds of dough filled with a perfectly balanced bbq pulled pork. And the Sesame Chewy Balls with Red Bean are my favorite sweet item. I randomly crave those all the time. The staff is always welcoming and so kind and the atmosphere is very "hole-in-the-wall", which I love. It makes it feel like I've found something really special. I really cannot express enough what a diamond-in-the-rough sort of thing this place feels like. It feels like my little secret pocket in a city filled incredible food and I honestly can't believe they don't have a line down the block of people waiting to eat there everyday. Was in the mood for soup dumplings one day and decided to try this place out from the publicity it was getting on IG. It's a pretty small restaurant and didn't seem like they were really prepped to have people dining in yet. But we got a table and it did not look like it was wiped clean yet. It was clean enough to sit though and took a look at their menu. We weren't sure if we were suppose to order from their online menu or wait for the server to come to us. We ended up waving the service over to take our order. We ended up getting quite a bit and it did end up being too much that we took the rest home. We got some dan dan noodles, soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, dumplings in hot oil, and some cucumber in hot oil to balance things out. We were pretty disappointed with the soup dumplings and the dumplings in hot oil. The dan dan noodles were good texture-wise, but it lacked any flavor. The hot chili oil condiment helped with that fortunately. Surprisingly the pan fried dumplings were juicier than the soup dumplings. They were the star for me at this place. There were a lot of to go orders coming from this place though that I noticed. They basically were discouraging people that came in to not place an order. Telling them it'll be a 40 minute wait. It's nice to see them get so much business, but it definitely doesn't look like they can meet the demand. If you're going to order from here, try ordering at odd hours instead of the usual lunch and dinner rush times. They'll be too book. I do like the fact that they have a guy making dumplings in the front so you can see they make it themselves and make it fresh. So that's good to know, just don't expect high quality stuff out of them. I think the soup dumpling wasn't steamed long enough either for me since it looked pretty pink still after I bit into one. It's hard to pick what our favorite dish was, but we got a wide selection of items, including pan fried pork Xiao Long Bao, tofu salad, chive and pork dumplings, wontons in chili sauce, chive & egg pancakes, and the mushroom & Napa bao along with hot tea. I'd highly recommend the wontons, tofu salad, and pork Xiao Long Bao, but you can't go wrong. We got: Pork xiao long bao: umm...there was no soup in 6/10 of the dumplings. It was a little bland and the dough is on the thicker side. We come up north to visit our adult son and regularly eat at one of the many local options. I always saw this place. After reading reviews we wanted to try it. I love Dim Sum and we do like occasional Dumplings. This place seems to be the perfect mix. Not a fancy place, but the people working here and the food are top notch! I used other reviews to see what to order as the menu descriptions are either not present or in Chinese. We got some old American Chinese food favorites, General TSA Chicken and Mongolian Beef and a few items we didn't recognize but are highly recommended by other reviews. Xaio Long Bao (Pork), Green Beans, Scallion Pancakes Cake, and Stir Fried Beef. We loved it all. Scallion Pancakes were the biggest surprise. And the Green Beans were perfect. Wow! Staff was very busy so we felt a little ignored but it wasn't intentional. They were quite busy and each interaction we did have left us with a smile and gratitude for friendly faces and great food. The Pork Xiao Long Bao were okay in my opinion, but it wasn't anything too special. I haven't had dim sum in a long time and found this place had great options and amazing pictures on Yelp. I decided to order some baos to pick up and semi satisfy my craving but the wait was about 30 min. I went in just to check after 15 min, there was only one other person sitting at a table inside and they said it would be 15 more min so I guess 30 was accurate. When i got my food it wasn't as fresh as you would expect, but I think this is definitely food you want to eat there, although my walk from the restaurant to my car was a few feet away and I was eating these in my car so I would think it would still be almost as fresh as if I was eating there but it just wasn't. read more

So far I've tried a few things: - Pan fried pork buns 5/5 - My girlfriend and I come here for these. They're packed with flavor, the bun dough is very soft and the bottom is always perfectly crispy. When we arrived there wasn't anyone working in the front so we rang the bell on the front desk several times and it didn't seem like anyone heard us - probably waited 5-10 minutes before anyone showed up. They also don't wear gloves or have any plexiglass installed. This place is really good though! I read the reviews on here and everyone spoke very highly of the xiao long bao and spicy wontons, so I picked both of those up, but I really didn't think they were that good (Dough Zone and Din Tai Fung are better), but the Pork Pancake (which is really just a big bao) was delicious and their green beans and hand made pulled noodles were really good! Very pleased with this place. Good food, fast service, and nice take out system. I do wish they took direct orders and accepted contactless payment. As is, they require a signature at pickup. That's not cool. The food is mostly not americanized. I think the owners are Korean because of some of the dishes on the menu and the way spicing is in the dishes. They are excellent. The only downfall was the soup dumplings. They were good, but they lacked much liquid. The spicy noodles were (as noted here before) amazing. They weren't hand shaved noodles. They could be hand spun, but I don't know. We did not dine in and only did takeout. Will definitely do take out from here again when in the area. One thing... they undercook their dumplings. My friend and I ordered the pan fried pork napa dumplings and the pork soup dumplings as well as the hand pulled noodles with spicy sauce. The dumplings all had pink meat. When we showed it to the waitress, she told us that it was normal and that they were timed. I've never eaten pork dumplings with pink meat and ended up with food poisoning that evening. If the meat were properly cooked and grey inside, the pan fried pork dumplings were on the thick side with a crunchy bottom. It wasn't very juicy inside. The pork soup dumplings were unevenly rolled and wasn't as juicy as its competitors like Din Tai Fung or Dough Zone. Hand pulled noodles were the best out of the three hence the two star. Shanghai Dim Sum house in Richmond BC is the best on the West Coast so far with it's thinner skinned pan fried pork dumplings that is super juicy inside. It is understaffed.. there was only one waitress manning the whole restaurant so no one picked up the phone when we called over 6 times. Just the fact the waitress tried to pass the undercooked pork as normal alarms me so I would avoid. read more

My first time with this business was the last time, I had it delivered and I am absolutely hands-down in love with this place. Every single dish was incredible. We had the spicy dumplings, kung pow chicken- I even have the traditional red dried peppers in it which give us a plural flavor and it's spicy with such great flavors! I have a major backlog of Yelp reviews, but I feel compelled to make Mount&Bao my first review of 2020. Why you ask? Because I want to recognize new business owners that are genuinely working really hard to bring you a remarkable culinary experience. This is currently deemed a Yelp Hot and New restaurant and clearly they have been found. Parking in Lake City takes patience but at least it's two hour zoned and free after 6pm, compared to other Seattle neighborhoods. The place was packed at 7pm, but eventually after a brief wait, we were seated at a clean table and provided menus. More patience is required because there were quite a number of large parties ahead of us. If the two people covering the dining area were literally running all over the place, I can only imagine the kitchen crew in the back keeping up with the orders. Definitely in the weeds, but holding it together as bowls, platters, and steamers kept coming out to various tables. We eventually received our orders of Spicy Wontons and Pork Soup Dumplings. I posted photos of their entire menu...quite the variety of other dishes and many veggie options. Our two entrees were worth the wait...mouth numbing spice (in a good way!) that The Homie drank the entire spicy concoction after we gobbled up the wontons. The soup dumplings were hot and spot on delicious. Yes, there isn't that ambiance like Din Tai Fung or Dough Zone, this is Lake City, people! But you receive pretty stellar dishes. Yes, there are condiments on the table but you won't need any. So good! Again, patience and succinct assertiveness goes a long way. People are busting their butts to give you an amazing meal. Had to flag down a server for water, but it was copious with ice shortly thereafter. I'm a mom so automatically I usually carry extra napkins which came in handy for catching spicy oily spills (none provided). Probably having a table caddy stocked with soup spoons, chopsticks, and napkins would be helpful for both wait staff and customers in the future. At the end, I stacked our stuff nicely for easy bussing and paid for our meal at the main counter. The tickets and receipts everywhere was another sign they are barely keeping up. The gentleman at the register apologized for the wait, wanted make sure we got all our dishes, and reassured they were hiring more wait staff (hopefully bussers too). I thanked him and wished him well before he was off to the kitchen again. Crazy busy, but success from the get go is always a good sign. If they can keep all these tables full and people happily eating like I witnessed and experienced this evening, this is a win-win for Mount&Bao and the Lake City neighborhood. Recommended to give it a try as an alternative to the the multitudes of similar cuisine found in Seattle's International District and University District. I had the Kung Pao chicken with rice. It was too much food, but all the vegetables were "al dente", crisp and fresh! The chicken was sweet and supple... I asked the waiter what style of cooking is their specialty. He said most entrées are Sichuan style, but the dumplings are typical of Northern China. Just thinking about the meal I had here is making my stomach growl! Boy, was this good... I arrived at a friend's house for dinner a little late, thanks to traffic, so my review of Mount&Bao is not for piping hot food, but it's still absolute 5-star worthy. We ordered a ton of various meaty and vegetarian options (of which there were a ton, much to my gf's excitement). most of the time with chinese food, your vegetarian dumpling options can be limiting, but not here. Here's the laundry list of what we ordered (all of which I'd recommend): green bean appetizer, broccoli appetizer, chinese donuts, mushroom and cabbage potstickers, carrot fried dumplings, pork xai long bao, port shu mai, dan dan noodles (we got meat and vegetarian, and both were outstanding), pork wontons in spicy sauce. What a haul... Among my favorites were the green beans. An often unsung hero of the dumpling table. They were fantastic. The mushroom dumplings were great too. Super full of flavor, and they reheated well in a bowl of soup the next day. The carrot fried dumplings were unlike anything i'd had before and were great. the carrot was very fragrant and almost perfumed with sweetness. not something i would usually order, but it was great. my favorite thing we ordered though were the dan dan noodles. the noodles were perfectly toothsome and chewy and soft, and the sauce was amazing. little oily, but hit the spot perfectly. the wontons in spicy sauce were another favorite. too spicy for one at our table, but not for me! loved that chinese five spice profile, too. can't adequately judge the soup dumplings since we arrived to dinner so late, but the flavors were great. like TDF (din tai fung) but more options. would definitely order from here again to try out more options! read more

So happy you can dine in again! When you get a dumpling craving, you need to give Mount & Bao a shot! Freshly made, friendly service, simple and pure. You don't need the fluff when you're getting handmade noodles, and dumplings made daily! I try to vary and try new dishes, but the pork and chive dumplings are always on my order list. Great food! Everything I've tried here has been flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the portions are generous, I always have leftovers. The green beans, the eggplant with garlic sauce, and cumin lamb are my favorites, and the tea flavor duck is fantastic. My cousin recommended I tried this place as it was comparable to Din Tai Fung. It turns out she was right! My husband and I gave this place a try for dinner one night and were so satisfied with our meal. From the outside, it looked like a whole in a wall/family type of restaurant and was a hit or miss when you drive by. Parking is limited to street parking, but when we went, there were so many! There was only one front of the house person taking care of orders and waiting tables. Many people kept coming in and out picking up takeout orders (must mean they are good). But what helps is that you order through your phone with a QR Code! We ordered: Spicy Dumplings - That chili oil mix is amazing! It wasn't too salty and actually enhanced the taste of the dumplings. The dumplings were flavorful and had a ginger kick. I didn't think it was too spicy but some people may think otherwise. Xiao Long Bao (XLB) - We ordered the chicken protein. The xlbs were tasty and much more flavorful than din tai fung. It had all the flavors that they lack and even had the ginger/vinegar kick in it. The only thing I wish there were more of was the soup. Noodles with Homemade Sauce - Highly recommend' It was so addicting! The noodles were bouncy and tasted fresh. The sauce wasn't too spicy and hand flavors of Szechuan. I loved the crunch that the cucumbers gave and made it refreshing. I thought this was super light because there was no protein and it wasn't as oily as I thought it was going to be. I'm not from Washington but I wish I went back once more before I came home. I'm so glad I gave this place a try and hope you do too. read more

Super bizarre delivery experience. We got our food an hour after we ordered it so we were really hungry at that point. Unfortunately it wasn't at ALL what we ordered. We ordered noodles with homemade hot sauce, chicken XLB, pan fried pork bao, and 2 cokes to drink. This place wasn't cheap so them not even getting one item right was extremely disappointing. What we got was an order of spring rolls (filled with carrots and cabbage), pan fried vegetarian dumplings (filled with carrot and cabbage), and pan fried carrot and cabbage bao. Notice a theme? We got three items that were ALL only filled with carrots and cabbage. Literally only that. I didn't taste any seasoning, any flavor, no garlic, no salt, nothing. Just carrots and cabbage in all three items. Bland and incredibly boring. As an ex-vegetarian who still eats a lot of vegetarian foods, this vegetarian food was NOT good. We got a refund luckily via the delivery service but I don't understand how this happened. These items were significantly cheaper than what we ordered and not even in the same realm to constitute as a mistake. At first we thought maybe they had mixed up the orders and the delivery driver was given someone else's order, but the receipt taped to the bag had the correct name on it but instead of what we ordered it listed the three random things we received. Never have had this happen in my life. If the food we received had actually been good then I probably wouldn't have rated this place so low, but gosh it was all so incredibly bland and sad. Which is very unfortunate because I'd been wanting to try this place for a year now.
