This is a value priced buffet with dinner in the $14 range. Based on my visit the back of the house of this buffett is poorly managed. Based on the condition of the food their operating model is "it not old, till its sold" . It is not uncommon to find a couple options at a buffett that have been held too long that you can select around. That was impossible at Spring Mountain buffett with 95% of the hot food that should have been discarded. Carving ham was dried out, cream soup dried out that it looked like mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak cold and dry, mac and cheese dry and clumpy, mashed potatoes cold pork chop dry, fried chicken cold with a rubbery coating, popcorn shrimp dry and cold, The only thing that was warm was the sliced beef in sauce, cream pies were warm. Only options for lunch in the Cliff Castle Casino was Johnny Rockets and Mountain Springs Buffet. We should have read the Yelp reviews before trying the buffet. I think I have only had one other buffet that was worse than here and that is the buffet at the Flamingo Hilton, which I don't think is a Hilton anymore. What makes this better than the worst spot us the salad bar was decent. The lettuce was fresh and since I live boiled eggs, I loaded up on boiled eggs. The fried chicken tasted like banquet Frozen chicken. The ribs, pork chops and meatballs tasted old, overcooked, and covered with sauce to mask the taste. The mashed potatoes and gravy were bad as was the baked beans. We also tried the soup of the day, chunky chicken noodle soup. It was like warm and I was hard pressed to find noodles. This "buffet" was the only option available for any breakfast. It was so bad. First, it is VERY small with very few items to choose from. No toast, bagels, fruit, waffles, or much of anything. No sausage, only bacon and ham that was a gray color. The potatoes were like leftover mushy steak fries. My husband was in front of me in line and they were holding a fresh pan of eggs, but wouldn't put it down until he used the crusty ones in the empty pan first. EVERY single thing was cold. Very cold. It's funny because this buffet is really small. Like "wedding of a party of 75" small. But the food is really delicious. I went on a Monday night. Everything tasted great and the staff was all very friendly. They were very attentive. There's even a make-your-own pasta station. Unlike other casino buffets though, the dishes are served on catering dishes rather than actual buffet tables with the glass guards to protect the food from patrons who accidentally sneeze or cough. The salad bar is very tiny, maybe 3 feet long and only on one side. The food part only had 8 very tiny pots with one meat at the carving station. The desert bar is squashed into a tiny corner. Two adults cost $29.68. The carving station had a processed Turkey loaf and nothing else. Pot Roast, Garlic Shrimp, and a couple more chaffing dishes were just unappetizing. My wife loved their Carrot Cake and I must say it was Terrific. I wouldn't feed this food to farm animals. Being a Casino, they would be wise to throw a world class brunch to attract new customers. The best brunch I ever had as comparison is at the Hilton Hotel at Universal City in Los Angeles. Free flowing Champagne, Crab Legs, Fresh Sushi, Giant Shrimps, Prime Rib, you name it. Love the orange out-of-the-box mac & cheese and out-of-the-box fried fish wedges. They had a meat carving with ham as the only offering the lunch where I went. The staff was friendly. I didn't try any of the desserts (yeah...hard to believe). Lunch was $11, which would've been the same price elsewhere and probably with a higher quality of food. After a pleasant experience with their Breakfast Buffet we decided to try the Friday Fish Fry. It too was a pleasant experience. Our waitress was great and the food was better. The salad bar included fresh greens and shrimp and clam chowder, which, for this part of the country was pretty good. The fish fry included Fried shrimp, beer battered cod and skewered salmon. A choice of 5 or 6 vegetables along with mashed potatoes or rice pilaf rounded out a great meal. The dessert bar wasn't bad either. This is the worst restaurant around. It has gone downhill over the years. I used to love going here to eat. But, not anymore. The last time I went was on September 29. We went to celebrate my birthday which was the week before. We went for the Prime rib, the price for the meal was $16.50 per person and its not worth anywhere close to that. I'm a Chef and its quite sad when I can go down the buffet line and can tell every product that is on the line. I could tell that it was all Frozen food and even the prime rib was of a low quality. The service was also the worst I have ever seen, took them 20 minutes to even acknowledge that we were at the table and then another 10 minutes to bring us our drinks. Getting refills was like trying to pull teeth, in the hour that we were there we only had the original drink plus 1 refill. Plus we had a pile of dirty dishes on our table which is unacceptable. I wish I could rate different aspects separately, because while the the service itself deserved at least another star (The management was patient and understanding with my discreet request for a refund), the food was utterly disgusting. The fried chicken had sat out so long that it was lukewarm, and so soggy that the breading was actually SLIMY and sliding right off of the meat. As if that was not unappetizing enough, the "ribs" were boneless meat that was actually FORMED to look like it had bones, and the barbecue sauce on it was sickly sweet. The very attractive chef who smiled at me so sweetly and offered me a slice of pork - bless his heart - gave me the oldest, driest piece of meat I'd ever had. Slice it a bit thinner, and it may as well have been made into pork jerky. I didn't bother with the boiled yellow--I mean green beans. My husband and I came to the buffet for the first time today, glad I had not read the previous negative Yelp reviews. Everything we tried from the salads, stuffed pepper, chicken, mixed vegetables and desserts were delicious. I especially liked the chili cheese macaroni, not to spicy or salty. The chill soup was good but too salty for my taste. Husband enjoyed the chocolate pie which he later learned was sugar free, I had spice cake, delicious but not sugar free. Had the breakfast buffet here for $7 per person and it was quite delicious. They had pretty much all of the typical breakfast offerings such as pancakes with hot syrup, carved ham, hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, and more. There was also a station for made to order omelets. Besides the breakfast items, there was a fully stocked salad bar, fresh cut fruit, and soup. I loved the last time I went on Friday night for the fish and everything was fresh but went for the Saturday night prime rib buffet and the slices were so paper thin you could see through the chincy pieces of tasteless meat. I don't understand the bad reviews for this buffet. We went to the prime rib buffet with another couple who had been there before and were impressed with the selection and quality. The prime rib was as good as any I have had in Sedona and much better than some. Our waiter was great and earned his 20% tip. We are going back for the Christmas buffet and anticipate a great meal. My husband and I decided to head to the casino to see what food options were available. We chose Mountain Springs Buffet. The setting was clean, but oddly reminded me of a cross between a truck stop dive and low cost wedding reception. We paid a little extra for the prime rib option and thought we were getting a great deal at $14 a person. Our first trip to the buffet line was for salad. It had all of the normal options for veggies and toppings. They had two vats of blue cheese dressing, however, and had one marked as Ranch as if we couldn't tell the difference. Ew. The next trip was for the main course. I chose the fried catfish, stuffed bell pepper, mashed potatoes and BBQ ribs. The catfish was breaded, not fried and was rubbery and cold from being left out. The ribs were dry and the stuffed pepper was mush. My husband had a slice of the prime rib but after two bites found it inedible. Dessert was a table filled with bite sized brownies, cheesecake bites, lemon bars...you know, church potluck items. Oh and and a soft serve dispenser. Classy. The staff was friendly, but we left wishing we had gone to Johnny Rockets instead (located just across the casino). read more

My husband and I eat at the buffet because of the salad bar. A couple weeks ago we went in at around 3 PM for a late lunch of salad. We were placed next to another couple and within five minutes of sitting down to eat our salad the man started vomiting at the table -- he didn't get up to leave his wife obtained soup bowls from the salad and soup bar area for the man to vomit in. Our waitress was appalled, she was ready to become ill just listening to the coughing and vomiting sounds. My husband became so upset he jumped up with his plate of food and placed it on another table and he went to back next to the window. We sat there for about 20 minutes listening to the sounds of the man vomiting --- ourselves we were ready to get ill and couldn't face walking past the man at the table. We are senior citizens and we were sitting there in shock wondering when someone was going to do something about this. Eventually a EMT came in and asked the man what was making him ill -- we didn't hear the response. We eventually got up and left the building. For the next twenty four hours we had issues with eating. After calling numerous times and leaving messages, finally management called us and never offered compensation -- so damn funny. Then we did obtain a comp for a meal, then a second comp --- we used the first comp just this past week and would you believe that the second comp management asked to return to them. I believe that this man was going through chemo or radiation treatment and the fluids were dangerous for the server and staff in general to clean up. Sad, sad, sad. The staff had no idea what to do do ! They should have called the EMT and security and had his butt taken out of the restaurant.
