Stick with me. There's a lesson here. Any Kitchen Nightmare fans? There's a couple of old old old episodes of that remind me of this place. Stay with me. There's one where the restaurant is jn an old church and they serve an early bird buffet that attracts a much older crowd. There's another episode where the restaurant is set up as fine dining - with prices to match - and the executive chef is cooking a bunch of old school dishes with cream sauces and odd ingredient combinations that call to mind the highfalutin recipes of yesteryear. One look at the lunch crowd and the menu of chicken dishes with strawberries in sauce (???) and I just knew Zaddy Gordon had to be in the kitchen calling someone a donkey. Still there? This was a work holiday lunch with folks who'd been here before - I let them lead the way and got to try some things I'd probably pass on. We had some shrimp and avocado thing as an app - I wouldn't order it because I'm tired of getting pushed around by Big Avocado - but it was really good. The veggie spring rolls were good too. Some of my colleagues were all in on chicken and shellfish dishes (and the people who got the chicken and creamy strawberries cleaned their plates so what do I know). I went with one of my faves - chicken Caesar wrap with fries, side salad, Diet Coke, and a glass of sangria. We had one server for our party of 18 and she was fantastic. Another person kept our glasses full. Good to know: -The place is huge. Multiple dining rooms, bright, open, and airy. Did not expect that from outward appearances. You tell me chalet and I'm expecting a mountain cabin and Switzerland on the other side. -Great seating. We were there a couple hours and I felt comfortable the whole time -a bit pricey on the dishes but work was paying so I noted it and kept it moving So what did we learn today kids? ::cue sitcom learning a lesson music:: Don't make ageist assumptions - I really enjoyed the intergenerational vibe of the dining room and was secretly envious of the leisurely lunching monied crowd and want that for myself in a few years. Or tomorrow. Choose something reliable as your main dish, and be a little more adventuresome with appetizers. You may be pleasantly surprised. Try new to you restaurants. Sat at the bar and ordered clams casino. They were just ok. Bacon was rubbery for me. Ordered the prime rib to go. Never was asked before how I wanted it cooked. I said medium rare. I ended up getting the end piece, which was fine but it was sadly dry. No side gravy either. Although it was wrapped up like Fort Knox! The mashed potatoes were like a large spoonful size and tasted like instant. Veggies were good. Rice pudding was also good. Wow ! I have driven by this place for years and finally decided to check it out . The food was absolutely perfect ! Cooked to order, fresh and cooked to perfection. Our server was so nice also. It wasn't crowded when I went, just the right amount of people. Quiet , relaxing and pleasant. I really can't say enough about this place except it is my new favorite and will be for a long time. Already have plans to go back a few more times. Oh and I didn't mention that the prices are extremely affordable. Go to place for meeting business folks since it is literally situated right off the highway. Great convenient location with ample parking. Good drinks too. They tend to rush you if you happen to be there near closing time. Don't plan on dessert and they turn off the espresso machine in advance to get you out. Dining room also tends to be bright so it feels like you are eating at a nursing home. Overall the food is excellent and that's what matters. Soooo good! For the value, you really can't beat what you get! The strip streak was so large I shared with my boyfriend and was only 32, coming with a side of veggies and potatoes! The calamari was also seasoned and fried to perfection, a must try! My boyfriend's bolognese was also extremely large portioned, enough for two people I would say. It was a little sweeter than expected but still yummy nonetheless. I also love the vibe of the restaurant it made me really wish that I was on top of a mountain! We went there for dinner. I had the crispy calamari, she had the oysters. They have one of the better calamari that I have had. She said the oysters were large and very tender. House salad was good with the balsamic vinaigrette, as was her beet salad! The Chicken Murphy is a dish to try if you like hot and sweet peppers. The scallops and escargot was excellent. We've driven by this place dozens of times headed west on 78. Finally tried this place and it was great. We had dinner at the bar - lots of regulars here. This is a restaurant that still serves bread and includes salad with their entrees. Both were very good. Another place that I love to go on the regular (20 years now!). A nice atmosphere with the owners always on-site and keeping touch with guests. The Seafood fra-diavolo is very good, the soups are very rich, and the Chicken Murphy is a signature dish. I have never had a bad meal or experience here and even the value is good. read more

We have to give the Chalet an excellent rating. Our server Allison was amazing considering she had to also deal with another party which was making a scene during dinner. Great job Allison in juggling rowdy customer's. All our meals were done exceptionally and no one in our party had any negative thoughts about the meals. We had the stuffed shrimp, Shrimp/Scallops Misto and seafood Fra Diavlo. Thanks for a wonderful meal. Quite simply, Mountain View Chalet is one of the finest restaurants we have ever frequented. From the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere to the perfect food to the exceptional service by Manny, it is the best. We have had dinner there numerous times over the last several months and it has been great every time. I love the Chicken Marsala and ChIcken Parm and my wife loves the Filet Mignon and Prime Rib. Also they always have different appetizer specials which are good and the desserts are all wonderful. All homemade and the ice cream is the best I've ever had. I recommend the Chalet highly. The mashed potatoes came in a white , creamy mound - just like your mom makes homemade. The salad was ordinary but the house dressing was excellent! It was a light touch to the meal. The chocolate cake had a touch of orange liquor, if you don't want liquor let them know. I just wish it was chocolate cake also, but I do need to cut back on chocolate so I was okay with that. Cake was moist, yet light. Icing was light, almost whipped. Service was 5 stars. There was nothing I would change - everything was 100%. Plates and forks were clean, no foreign matter in food.
