We accidentally booked a room with our dog and, even though they normally don't accept dogs, they did in our case and only charged an extra $20 fee, which is less than the pet fee in other "dog friendly" hotels. They recently renovated their rooms and they are nice and clean and well done. It is in a quiet part of Bishop and that really helps if you are not a sound sleeper. The staff was friendly as well. All the usual amenities including a large screen flat TV. Very nice motel for the price! read more

Chill out ya'll! If you want a chocolate on your pillow and tons of useless amenities you'll never use, this is NOT the place for you. This is a $50-$60/night motel. That's it. You get what you pay for. Stuff is kinda old. Stuff should maybe be replaced. But it's a cool/warm (depending on time of year) place to sleep and it's food for a hot shower. I rolled in at 3am, busted from a late night of mountain climbing. This place is exactly what I needed. They have physical keys, it's that kind of old-school place. It is what it is, a warm room and a bathroom. Was freezing when we originally checked in, I guess they keep the heaters off when there aren't guests in the rooms, and the one small heater took forever to heat it up. Must be trying to save money...that plumbing bill is going to suck when the pipes freeze though. Plenty of dings, dents, holes in the walls. Cleanish, but still had dust in the corners and dirt on the floor, plenty of stains in the chairs, and on the floor. No room cleaning during our two day stay, and no mention of having to request to have it cleaned. No breakfast even though it was advertised. Pool is half empty, though not green right now. Not that it matters, it's practically winter anyway. Front desk staff were nice enough, but we will not be coming back. Spend a few extra dollars and look elsewhere. Just a depressing place overall, needs some serious TLC. read more

DON NOT GO HERE. Mr. Patel you should be ashamed!! My room should of never been rented out for the night me and my wife were there. The gal up front was very nice. The pool was half empty and green, but site said pool. No coffee in the AM and no food, thank goodness as the room where the new ice maker is was a mess with a toaster. Our new microwave nice, but the glass plate was full of cheese, old towels were top of the closet, bathroom window was not lockable, chair and towels were stained. It was somewhat of a mess. You did a great job with the brand new fridge, micro, and coffee maker and the ice machine but that is just a start. See pics. We were not comfortable at all at your property. Again, the gal up front was nice but I wasn't going to say anything as it seemed we were the only ones at the hotel at check in. I was in a rush to get a room because 395 had chains required. I got a room here without reading reviews! Boy what a mistake that was. As i was checking in, the guy literally intentionally bent over in his chair and FARTED loudly. No excuse me or anything. This should have been the first sign to leave before he charged my card. So i get to my room and settle in. The rooms are very old and outdated. The Air conditioner/heater unit was in the bathroom so you couldn't feel it very good in the area where the bed was. I tried to charge a couple of my devices and NONE of the plugs worked! I only found 1 single plug that worked by the bathroom to charge my phone. I would NOT recommend staying here! read more

When searching online for a room, the advertisement specifically said double room, 2 double beds and the pictures showed us a suite, with a kitchenette. This was perfect since we were traveling with our grown daughter. When we arrived to check in, the room is a SINGLE room with 2 double beds. FALSE ADVERTISING! The person at the front tried to make it right (kudos to him) by giving us 2 king rooms. We had been on the road all day and just wanted to rest so we stayed. We do appreciate the managers attempt to make the situation right. But for the price of the room, really disappointed. The pool is in serious disrepair and looks as if it hasnt been maintained in years, the pool amenity needs to be deleted off the listing. Considering the price, this is a good cheap choice. Off the main street, but located right next to a police station. Not sure if I should feel safe, or stop speeding. :P Rooms are clean, although not very new. Showers had hot water and good flow. Bed was decent, and the heater was working - no temperature control tho. So half way thru the night it was soooo hot that I had to go turn it off. In the morning, it cooled back down, I hoarded the blanket and sheets (unconsciously) and my poor boy was shivering in the corner and wondering where his blanket went... I was going to give this terrible place 2 stars but it wasn't under $100. So we stayed here to avoid an expensive hotel in mammoth and we knew it wasn't going to be nice but didn't expect it to be this bad. After checking it we settled in our room after a long day of boarding. We are hanging out in the room with the blinds open on the first floor. The older guy that checked us in was walking by with someone and totally glared in our room like we were up to something. After this we shut the blinds to make sure he wasn't going to spy on us any further. After this we found that the shower leaks and makes the whole bathroom covered in water. On top of this the toilet clogged very easily. Later in the night after all this fun, we were about to go to bed. We did have the blinds closed but there was a little space in between the 2 curtains. I noticed out of the corner of my eye an eyeball staring through the crack and turned to see it and saw it move. Not sure who this was because I didn't see anyone when I ran and opened the door so I'm not sure what to make of that but I wouldn't stay here. If you are some dudes in your 20s and you really have to, sure but if your with your family, hell no! read more

I was surprised when I saw the other reviews on Yelp, I was instantly impressed with my room and the front desk service. Newer tiled bathroom, large room, heat lamp outside the shower, very clean... and this was all for $52 by the way. That's half the price of the average room in Bishop. I've stayed in a decent amount of the hotels in this town and this is the nicest I've seen yet. For the lowest price... Maybe it's after the renovations mentioned, but for the price, this place absolutely deserves 5 stars. For the record, there were zero bedbugs during my stay :) read more

Passing through I needed a room for a couple nights. I booked in advance but I later found out you'll see higher prices online than if you were to wait to the last day to book. Unless of course you're looking for a room during one of the popular three day weekends...then yes, book in advance. They do offer some discounted rates if you qualify. If you call directly, be sure to ask. Being an older hotel in a small town the room was what I expected. It was a little dated and the bathroom countertop definitely needed some work. There was a small refrigerator in the room which came in handy. The TV was small but had numerous cable channels. The bed was pretty decent...so no complaints there. Plenty of parking too. I forgot my shaving bag at home...was hoping that maybe they could provide a traveler toothbrush. Nope, but I didn't really think they'd have one...just asking! Staff were friendly. No objections to staying here again in the future...as long as the price wasn't too high. read more

FEMALE MANAGER, MINISHA, IS VERBALLY ABUSIVE TO SENIORS. I booked this motel through Booking.com and indicated a pet would be brought. Upon checking in, we also indicated we brought a dog- see pic attached. To no fault of our own, the under aged worker did not charge us a pet fee, however bc we did our part disclosing that, when asked if we paid the pet fee, we replied, "yes." A day later the female manager, Minisha, pounded on the motel door. She yelled at my father, in his 70s, and told him to get out or pay $90 cash. We paid $75 cash, no receipt given which is government fraud bc we know that money wasn't documented revenue. If you are curious what the $75 is for, we were told the entire room would need to be cleared out and cleaned top to bottom bc we had a 12lb hypoallergenic poodle in the room! Upon returning a few hours later, the room was being cleaned the exact same way all the others were cleaned. Later that night, we stopped in again and the current occupant let us take a look. From the pictures attached, you can see that this management couple pocketed the money, defrauded the government, and Room 112 is still contaminated by out poodle! There are two types of cheap motels: 1) Clean, minimalist, simple, and pleasant; 2) Dirty, strange folks on site, and weird. This place is the latter. Too bad. With a good cleaning and a bit of paint it could be charming. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The top stair of both stair cases was ready to fall off. One of my wash rags looked like someone just finished wiping cheetos from their face with it. There was a puddle in the bathroom. The shower curtain was on the floor. One of the lamps didn't work. And the management was rude and unprofessional, they simply have no business in the customer service industry and will likely be selling to new owners within 2 years. One can hope. I'm typically not the type to complain... but this was insanely bad. Especially for the $95 a night. This is the type of room and service I would expect from a $35 a night hotel and if I paid that much I wouldn't bother writing this review. The Mountain View Motel is old, falling apart, not well maintained, and not clean. I suppose that the owner/manager, or whoever it is that disputes all of the low yelp ratings will come on here to dispute this, but during our stay last week I did take pictures of mold in the bathroom, the remnants of a torn screen in one of the windows, and a bathroom towel with a previous guests hair on it.....not posting those pics, and what I didn't photograph were the stains on the upholstery, or the really dangerous crumbling stairs leading up to the 2nd floor. If you're staying in Bishop, stick with one of the chains (Best Western, etc. - they're all here), or the Creekside, which looks really nice and gets good reviews. read more

very dissatisfying, including the kitchenettes -- the freezers are small, not much for utensils. Stayed here Memorial weekend for Mule Days with my GF. Mule Days - is completely insane -- within 4 days during this weekend, the small (population 4K or so) quaint town of Bishop rakes in 14MM american pesos. Basically, you gotta do your research on the calendar. The pool rec-room is decorated in "hunter's motif" from the 1960's. The fish cleaning table is lame & not maintained. Bed was not good, but what is cool is the rather large dressing area adjacent to the shower. I'll leave it at that. read more

BEDBUGS ALERT! All I wanted was to shower and get a comfortable night's rest after a very long and strenuous trek up White Mountain. Instead I woke up in the middle of the night itching my skin. Half asleep and hesitant to go back to bed because I was itching like crazy. When I woke up in the morning I was covered with bedbug bites from head to toe. My face, arms, feet, legs, back, neck, and hands were covered with bedbugs bites. When I told the Mgr. about the bedbugs as we checked out, instead of apologizing, he defended the motel by saying, "We never received a complaint before." That doesn't mean you've never had bedbugs. This motel needs some serious upgrades. The window we opened fell off of its so called track and almost fell on top of my friend. The shower is incredibly small and dated. The owners need to put some reinvestment back into this motel starting with bedbug extermination. It's really unfortunate we stayed here as we also paid too much for such an experience. With the recent bedbugs epidemic, this place should be renamed The Bedbugs Motel. read more

I've stayed in most of the low cost motels in Bishop over the last 4 months. I must say that this place was the least attractive. There were fresh stains on the carpet that was already filthy. There was a sack of half empty beer cans in the waste basket when i checked in. The room smelled of sour beer. There was no coffee machine in the room and coffee is only available in the morning. The courtyard is all cement; no greenery - no garden. I found the staff not professional. They did not respond helpfully to my comments about the room. This critique is unfortunate since my room was large and had a desk and suitable chairs for the work I needed to do. The wifi connection was fine. A real manager could sort this place out. In the meantime I would suggest that you avoid this motel. read more

The shower is pretty clean , the mirrors and floors are decent and I would have given five stars, but the internet was very poor. I was not even able to search the web in my room without having it lag for five - ten minutes. Maybe i'm too far from the router or the internet is just spotty. I wish that the Tv's were a little more updated because these things are giant boob tubes, they probably waste more energy than a new efficient LCD/LED ones. Now I know i can't expect the world from a "motel" but these are some of the small things that could make the experience more enjoyable. I rated this place 4 stars because we stayed in room 217 it's huge and has a fire place I can't argue with the price but I really hope they invest in their wifi and Tv's would make this place a 5 star place while your shredding the mountains. thank you mountain view & look forward to seeing these changes in the near future. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights in 2010, and I just reserved a downstairs room for the end of Sept (next mo) for 7 nights for a return trip. Price per nt. might not be _the lowest_ rate in town, BUT it's very close to it for *more than a 1 night's stay.* Even fewer nights won't likely be even close to the hundred per night that most competitors DO charge. Overall it's a bargain in 2012 + the owners are very accommodating and there's a free Continental Breakfast available every morning. Overall it's pretty darn hard to beat! Just like the name says, you're just a few yards from the mountains. With prices & quality where it's mostly declined to today- a room like this is hard to find for under a hun a night. And DO NOT FORGET that the longer you stay- the lower your per night room rate can go! U can find a tad cheaper rm if U don't mind 100 yr old+ buildings. read more

This rating is based on what you get for what you pay - and as the least expensive motel in the region ($50 for two double beds) you get a fantastic value for the money. It was clean, the bed comfortable, plenty of cable channels on a very watchable (but not hi def) tv, a small fridge was nice, with a continental breakfast of coffee, toast, waffles, and bran cereal in the morn. All in all a tremendous value for my adult son & me who were gone all day & eve skiing, exploring, hiking, dining, visiting breweries, etc. Obviously at such a bargain price it's going to have flaws such as minor wear and tear on the bathroom tile, our bath door had a fist sized indentation, a cracked light cover, etc. On our 3rd day we also had a minor ant issue which is typical in rural areas and the manager addressed it. It was likely our fault for making sandwiches prior to heading out and not being careful enough with crumbs. The outside parking areas and planters do look a bit rundown. However none of these were major issues, especially at such a low price. The people who worked there were nice enough, appearing to be a family who lives on site. I would try to avoid the rooms immediately above and just south of room 111, as it appears people may live there full time and were a little noisy seeming to use the plumbing often at all hours of the night. However we were so tired each night after so much exercise that it wasn't a big deal. Overall it was definitely worth staying here for our purposes at such a low price, and we used the money saved for lots of great fun, food & beverages! In Bishop we highly recommend the Mountain Rambler Brewery - good beer with great beertenders, Upper Crust Pizza - really good with outstanding service, El Ranchito for good Mexican food and great service, Pupfish Cafe for the best breakfast sandwich and waffles we've ever had!, Black Sheep Coffee Roasters, and Jacks Coffee Shop with good old fashion American breakfasts and for viewing lots of giant trout on the walls! read more

We frequently stop in Bishop as we make our trek down from the Tahoe area to San Diego. This time, we got into town about 11:45 PM and I made a reservation here via hotwire. The rate was $82 and with tax came to a little over $100. When we showed up, I came inside to check in. I was handed a form that asked for my personal information and had a pet disclaimer on it. "Our pet fee is $25 and all pets must be disclosed upon check in. If you do not disclose your pet, you will be charged an $80 non disclosed animal fee." I did have a companion animal, a dog, with me. I told the fella behind the counter that I had a dog. He tells me "I am sorry, that is an old form, we no longer accept pets." Well, he knew I had booked on Hotwire and that my fee was non refundable. I wonder, why do they hand old forms out? I was then given the option to pay the unannounced pet fee of $80 in cash and he would allow me to "sneak" the dog in. I had been on the road for almost 7 hours at this point and it being so late I did not want to have to find somewhere else to stay. What I didnt understand was that I did announce my dog, was told that the policy had changed, but they would let me in if I gave them an extra $80. It wasnt fair, I felt like I was being extorted. We had literally made the reservation 5 minutes before walking in. He then says that if we call hotwire he would authorize a partial refund. So we called hotwire. Hotwire called them. They refused to answer the phone. This is my experience with the front desk staff. They are theives and they lie. Stay somewhere else. Stay away. He also mentioned they had cameras and watch every customer as they unpack and walk into their rooms. I got a creepy feeling from him, he contradicted himself numerous times, and I have yet to receive my refund. Do yourself a favor and stay ANYWHERE else. read more

Spent the night for the trout opener 28 April 2018. Room was clean and the management went out of their way to be helpful. We left the car interior on, they knocked on the door and told us. I needed a phone charger, they lent me one for the night. The next day after fishing we came back to use their cleaning station and they were very nice and let us use the facilities even though we were no longer checked in as a guest. read more

The only reason it is not rated as THE dirtiest motel I have ever stayed in, is that there actually were no bugs in the room. My son and I mulled over whether or not to sleep in our truck instead of staying in this room. I would have paid double the 85.00 plus tax, 1 night rate if we could have found a room elsewhere at the last minute. It was so nasty we didn't even use ice from the dispenser. I left my used fishing creel in my vehicle because the room was too filthy to set it in. I get quaint, and I get that it's older, and that "you get what you pay for". However, this room was simply not cleaned in, who knows how long. I don't know which rooms some of these pictures were taken in but they sure look WAY nicer than the two rooms we occupied. DO NOT STAY HERE! And for those that post here to lighten up on this place, I guarantee you that if the Inyo county heath department were to check my room, my friend's room that was next door, and the so called "kitchen area", they would shut the place down. PS: My friend's room had someone's dirty socks hanging on his chair, along with a used bar of soap and used towel hanging in the shower. I will say one positive statement about this place. We booked a non-smoking room with this motel and arrived late on Saturday shortly after midnight. We were checked in by the owner of the motel and it was relatively uneventful; we made some small talk about the recent storms in Mammoth, I paid, and I left. As soon as we got into our room, we noticed a lingering cigarette smell, but it was past midnight and we were exhausted from traveling. We were only staying here for two nights and we didn't plan on spending too much time in the room, so we didn't want to make a big deal as we thought we could put up with it. The second day when we got back into the room after the heater was turned on around 7pm, the smell got significantly worse. Our eyes began to water and our throats started to get irritated; I started coughing and could not stop. We realized it was too late to get a refund with the motel, but it was becoming intolerable that we decided to go to the front desk and try to see if we could get a different room before just packing up to leave. When we got to the front desk, a receptionist saw us but quickly went inside without talking to us, but she acknowledged us and gestured that she'd get back to us. We waited around outside for about 5 minutes in the cold, and nobody came back, so we pushed the button outside of the reception area to try to get someone's attention. A couple minutes passed and there was still no one; we decided to try the courtesy phone above the button. As soon as we picked up the phone, it connected us to the owner of the motel; we stated our intention to talk to them about the state of our room, and she said she would be there shortly. Another 5-10 minutes passed, the owner showed up and started to act very confrontationally. Before either my boyfriend or I could say anything, she targeted me and said this would be a good "life lesson" to learn and speak up about things I don't like as soon as I know I don't like it, may it be a motel room, a job, a man, or whatever else and that I should write in my "little diary" so I can look back and cry about it later in life. She stated that she knew from my attitude at the time of check-in that I didn't like the motel, and that if I had said something, she would have given me a refund with no question asked. She told us the town was completely booked out for the night and we could leave if we didn't like the room. She also refused to believe the room reeked of cigarette smell and called us overly sensitive and that she didn't have the time to babysit every room and make sure nobody smoked in her motel. Throughout this one-sided conversation, my eyes remained watery and I continued to cough from the smoke build-up in my body by being in the room for a limited amount of time. I tried to tell her politely that I believed she was mistakened and I didn't have any issue or attitude with her motel at the time of check-in, which she aggressively rejected. I told her it was late when we arrived and we thought we could put up with it, but we were wrong. She once again rudely and angrily interrupted and yelled at us. I tried to tell her she could have at least acknowledged the room smelled like cigarettes and relabeled it as a smoking room, to which she responded she doesn't own any smoking rooms and there was nothing we should complain about given the price of the motel, as it's not Hyatt and that we could stay at Days Inn next door at a $200/night if we wanted luxury. At this point, despite in utter shock still, we realized there was no point in continuing this conversation. I interjected and told her that all we wanted was to see if she would do anything about our situation because the smell was genuinely bothering us, more than we had thought or realized; if the answer to that question is nothing, it is what it is and we will leave, but we don't need her to lecture us. As we walked away, she slammed the door shut and started screaming in the room to at least two othe men who were present the entire time in racial slurs about me, a Chinese descent, but nothing about my white boyfriend. We got back to our room and started to pack up, still in disbelieve, and left the motel as soon as we could. Now, we understand if she got defensive with us because she felt like we were trying to rip her off as she appeared to have formed some impressions about us prior to even talking to us, but she clearly had some issues with me, and only me, as she was very vicious with me throughout the entire interaction. Despite some obvious holes in her argument (Why wouldn't anyone know about the state of their own mom-and-pop motel? Not to mention, it's a small motel and it's not like it has 5 different buildings and over a hundred rooms), I remained courteous as she combatively continued to verbally assault me. It was baffling to us why she was so angry and continued to get angrier throughout the conversation. Her reaction was so far out there, and it was completely uncalled for, offensive, and unprofessional. read more

I will spare the gory details, but after changing rooms due to a shower that wouldn't drain, my new room was not cleaned, had previously used bar soap in the shower, torn and dirty sheets and comforters, loose tile throughout the bathroom, torn carpet, inoperable electronics (or non-existent), stained and hairy towels, and so on. For the price, I wasn't expecting the Ritz, just a clean, comfortable, outdated room...that is not what you'll get here. One star for a bed I was able to sleep on and doors that lock. read more

Don't stay here. I had a reservation and called them twice from the road to let them know we would arrive after the front desk closed. They said just use the phone outside the office and they will come out and give us the key. THEY NEVER ANSWERED THE PHONE OR DOORBELL OR KNOCKING. Here is some of my correspondence with Booking.com Thank you for the response. I know that Booking.com is not at fault here. No apologies from you is necessary, yet very kind. I could not be more disappointed with the Mountain View Motel experience however. I have not heard from them at all. My two attempts (in person) to get information as to why no one came to the door or answered their outside phone, produced no answers. I do hope they respond to you as the staff seemed to care less about what happened. We cut our hotel nights short because of Mountain view. It was difficult finding accommodations but we did at two different locations because they could only give us what they had left for the day. We did not spend more money as we found cheep motels. Just inconvenience. Having to pack up each morning and not have the room to clean up in before we headed home at midnight was quite in convent. Thank you for your efforts on this matter.
