This tavern has been here forever, and not much changes. Cold beer, friendly folk and rustic charm.

I love this little laid back treasure within the woods. The staff is always nice, helpful, and prompt. They make the best Bloody Mary- a must have for a weekend breakfast. I have been here many times, to eat breakfast, dinner, and to have a few beers (and they have a great selection). I was really surprised the first time I had breakfast here, huge helpings and the food was amazing. They make a greatest BLT and their pizza is to die for! read more

Excellent food and service! I had a mushroom burger last week. It was so good I had to go back this week for more. The fried potatoes are an excellent side dish -- much better than fries. Also they have very good craft brews on tap. The atmosphere is very country/western. Not fancy would be an understatement. Don't mind a cluttered, cabin atmosphere and come as you are. If you have spent much time south of Flagstaff you know how hard it is to get good food and service. Don't forget to tip the servers well because they deserve it. Mountainaire Tavern is a breath of fresh air in the Munds Park/Kachina Village/Mountainaire area with offerings that will keep me coming back, even if it means driving past several of the other local watering holes/restaurants. read more

This cute little Green Bay Packers bar was the best small bar I've come across. We were coming home from Flagstaff and wanted some breakfast and come across MT. We ordered all things breakfast: Biscuits and gravy, omelet, and pancakes. Now let me say, want to feel like you're at grandmas house eating a home cooked meal, then stop here!! The best place in Flagstaff (and surrounding area) that noone has ever heard of. AMAZING food. Best fried zucchini ever. Great pizza. Great burgers. Great ranch dressing. Great service. Great vibe. Decently priced heavy pour drinks. Awesome outdoor area with horseshoe pit! The only flaw with this place is they don't take cards, though they do have an ATM (with a fee) you can use. They've only been off the mark one time before for me... unfortunately it was the one time I dragged all my visiting relatives there... Pizza took FOREVER and everything was burnt or soggy... must have been someones first day. Got trolled haha. read more

Small town feel. My son liked his hotdog and I enjoyed the apparently home made soup and croutons.

Nice greasy spoon. Yummy breakfast! Worth the drive. It is really 1.5 mi off the 17, not 1 mile so don't get discouraged, keep driving. Oh, and there is a cash only policy. The ATM inside charges big fees, so stop somewhere else first for cash. Slow service is quaint and very small town feeling...no rushing here! read more

Karmen was the best part of my experience. Greeted me right when I walked in for breakfast. Got me a water and offered coffee right away. Upsold me to a Spanish coffee with a lil Kahlua. My wife and I departed Phoenix AZ early one Sunday morning to drive to Albuquerque NM, and were getting hungry as we approached Flagstaff AZ. We were close to Mountainaire Tavern, a mile east off US 17 just south of Flagstaff. We found Mountainaire Tavern to be a delightful rustic "country" building, filled with locals enjoying hot breakfasts and each other's company. The front door had a big sign "CASH ONLY, PLEASE" - so I used the ATM inside to get more cash if needed. I ordered the basic 2 Eggs with Sausage and Country Potatoes and English Muffin, plus a side of Sausage Links - hey, I said I was hungry! My wife ordered the Ham and Eggs, with the Quarter Pound of Ham, Country Potatoes, and Wheat Toast. Service was a bit slow, but the sign said they only start cooking when they receive orders - fresh food is fine with us. Our energetic waitress Jewels was an energizer bunny, hopping between the bar, the kitchen, and serving and bussing the tables; plus, she was busy making and serving coffee. When the food came, it was absolutely delicious! The eggs were large, the sausages were tasty, and the country potatoes were perfectly fried and crispy. A wonderful breakfast in a delightful environment. This would be a great eating (and drinking) hangout during snow season. Definitely highly recommended. read more

We just left the Mountainaire Tavern very disappointed. We have been there many times before but NEVER had an experience like this. There was my family of three and 3 others at the bar (not busy at all). After 45 minutes, the waitress told us she forgot to put our order in. Once we got our meals, it was NOT worth the wait. My husdand had to get up 3 times to ask for coffee, his eggs had to be redone since they were not done the way he ordered, my daughter's eggs were over done but she decided just not to eat them, my chili tasted like ketchup with beans and a little bit of meat but the WORST part was the conversation the bartender/waitress was having about her past problems with bedbugs! I had to stop her in the middle of her conversation because it was making me disgusted to the point that I lost my appetite and waited for my husband and daughter in the car. We drove from Phoenix to eat here and it's a shame that I will not go back to this restaurant that I have been going to for over a decade because of this experience. read more

We came here hoping for a quick breakfast. There was only one other person in the entire place and it 35 minutes to make 2 omelets, 1 pancake and an order of biscuits and gravy. The food was not worth the wait. The omelet was bland. Biscuits were like nothing I have ever seen before and the pancake tasted like it had been sitting out for a week. Would not recommend the food. Take the extra 10 minutes and drive into town. read more

My husband and I used to stop in there about every other Saturday for the first couple years when we first bought a home up here. At that time, the food was terrific (especially the burger and fries and a couple of the soups) and the service quick and friendly. However, in the past few years, we have completely stopped going there. One time we went, and we wanted to sit outside, so I snagged a couple menus, and I went up to the bar to place our order (they don't really have any servers who actually go out and service the tables outside). She told me to come back in about 20 minutes for our drinks and food (no water was offered - I went back in a few minutes later and she gave us some). When I went back in for the drinks and food she had completely forgotten to even turn our order into the kitchen and had not yet made our drinks. She apologized and said she'd put the order in right away and she'd bring our drinks out to us in the meantime. 20 minutes later, no drinks, no food. We left. The next time we stopped in, although there were only about 4 people at the bar and about 4 more at tables, we were informed if we wanted to order any food, it would be at least an hour before they could get it to us. We went ahead and got a drink and left without ordering. The final straw came about a month later and we went in and ordered a beer, 1 mixed drink and a cheese crisp. We waited about 15 minutes for the drinks and she said the food would be right out. About 20 minutes after that, I inquired about the food and she said she'd check, and after another 10 minutes, brought the cheese crisp out, and it wasn't even cooked right. You could see places where the cheese had not even melted and the flour tortilla was basically raw. We haven't been back since. read more

Really enjoyed the Flagstaff Brewing Co spruce tip ale beer. One of the best beers I've ever had. Amy is a great server and very knowledgable with the menu. The pizza I ordered was top notch! I will be back for sure. I would have given this place 5 stars but because they only take cash it gets 4. read more

This place was so good! We were about to stop at a subway but then noticed this little place popped up on my maps. The little drive from the gas station to this place was super cute. The area is very green and full of fields. When we got there it looked like the bar area had a few locals sitting there so we chose a table by the side. It is full on cabin mode in here and I was a little worried we would feel out of place but everyone was super friendly! We were taken care of quickly by the waitress/bartender and when the food came out it looked fresh and the portions were good. The place is super charming and the food is great so if I ever make that drive back to Arizona I'll definitely stop by again! read more

Our family gave us a bed and breakfast stay for our wedding anniversary at an Inn in Mountainaire, Arizona part of Flagstaff. The only local place to get food and drink at night was the local neighborhood spot called "Mountainaire Tavern." What made our three night stay pleasurable was going to the Tavern for our nightly drink and conversation. Bartenders Shirlene, Sammy, Amy and Hendrick were a delight! Music every Sunday and it was nice hangin' with the locals at this spot. A definitely must the next time we are in Flagstaff! read more

Unfortunately, there is nothing special about the Tavern except it's the only place at exit 333 that isn't Subway. The food is expensive classic bar food and the drinks are just like every other hole in the wall bar that you've ever visited. They also have a pool table that is usually open, a juke box with 70s-90s classics, and a pleasant patio with horseshoes and space to bring your own corn hole game if you're interested in tossing bags. If football is your thing, don't expect to watch your team even though they have a couple TVs. The Tavern only accept cash but "generously" offers an ATM with a $2 fee so you can pay your bill. They do have brunch which is nice if you're local and DO NOT want to drive to flag so you can elbow your way into crowded restaurants full of Phoenicians. Despite the fact they have four tables or so for family dining, I would skip it and go to town for another family restaurant option. If it's just you and your boys ready for some drinks, head on down to Mountainaire Tavern. All in all, this place is exactly what it's intended to be: a mountain bar with plenty of booze and some food options. read more
