Bay Area Piano movers quoted me $455 to move my upright grand from Hayward to Walnut Creek. A-1 Piano movers did it for $155. They were on time, the piano was in great shape. They were even friendly! Definitely recommend. They will be my go-to for piano moving. It's a small family-owned business. His father started the business and he took it over. So together, they've been moving pianos in the Bay Area for over 50 years! I told the owner, Rex, that he should make a website to increase business. He didn't seem super interested. We contacted this business to move a piano from a thrift store in Oakland to our home in Antioch. They gave us a date two days after our purchase date which worked great. Later, Paul gave us an approximate arrival time with a four hour window. He also said he would call when he was 30 minutes away from the delivery point. He kept his word on both points. A-1 Piano Movers returned my call quickly, gave a very reasonable estimate (and was clear upfront that there would be additional charges for any steps), and even fit me into their schedule when they had a cancellation. These guys move pianos all day, every day, and clearly know exactly what they are doing. They work quickly and efficiently, but still carefully. Very happy with the job that they did, and I would hire them again in a heartbeat. FYI, charge was $155 for a smaller upright piano, no stairs on either end of the move. They just delivered a piano to my door about five minutes ago. They were extremely quick, quiet, and were extremely careful with both the piano as well as my house. I was receiving a friend's piano on a rainy Saturday morning. I was given a window of 10am-2pm. That's it. I don't know how the pick-up went, but it must've been at 10am. These guys showed up to deliver at 11am, a little ragged and no-frills, but totally friendly. They managed the rain and navigated my ripped up walkway with ease. They cautiously moved the bench and piano without any problems. They checked with me about the pets, complimented my little pad and were off. It was easy, it was quick, it was pleasant, it was done. They showed up when they said they would, they did their job well, and they handled the rain with blankets (maybe they have plastic for storms...?) I don't know their charge for mileage, but they charge $2 per stair on both sides. I think the fee for Berkeley to North Oakland was about $140 plus stairs. read more

After reading the reviews I was still very skeptical about the service. I ended up calling about 4 to 5 different companies and I felt most comfortable with this company. The three guys they sent were on time, very helpful and enjoyable to talk to. We had a lot of heavy (expensive) furniture that they had to move down two flights of stairs, which they took extremely good care of. I only had two pieces of furniture damaged but it was cheap material that was poorly made so I'm no holding that against them. I would definitely recommend them and the next time I move I will be using them again. read more

I just had my baby grand piano delivered by A-1 Piano Movers, now Quality Piano Movers. I was worried about how they were going to transport and put together the piano legs since I had just put in brand new floors. I definitely didn't want them scratched! They did an awesome job , putting down thick padding and carefully assembled the legs and positioned the piano exactly how I wanted it! They were very professional, fast and efficient! I am more than happy with the process and I felt at ease once I saw how quickly and carefully they worked. They were just two average sized guys. The person I spoke to says that A-1 went out of business a month ago, and that Quality bought A-1's phone number. Decided to re-carpet my living room and realized that my baby grand had to be moved in order to get the carpet in. A1 Movers came in, took the baby grand apart and set it sideways in my dining room, the carpet guys came in and laid the carpet, I called A1 Movers back and they came back out and put the baby grand back in the newly carpeted room. We hired Paul and his crew on a number of occasions to move pianos, a harpsichord, and even uncrate a massive concert grand piano that just arrived from overseas. He is efficient: he routes his truck and crew efficiently so that he can be working on more than one move at a time. The result is that his rate is very competitive. I chose A-1 piano movers because they were the cheapest of 4 movers that I called and also they had good yelp reviews. However, I was disappointed with their work. The movers were not very friendly and they were not very careful when they moved my piano. They hit the piano against the wall when they moved it into the house. Luckily, it did not damage the piano, just took off some paint from the wall. I would definitely not recommend this mover. read more

RUDE UNHAPPY MOVERS WHO WOULD CLEARLY RATHER BE DOING ANYTHING ELSE! I was told I would receive a phone call when they were 30 minutes out; I knew they were here when I saw them on my driveway. I greeted the driver on my driveway, only to be ignored by him. I asked him if he was alone to which he replied, "you have no idea how I wish I was". He was joined by another man who was dressed in dirty jeans and a T-shirt; no introductions, no marking on the truck--if I had been home alone I would have NOT let them in my house. Once in the house the first guy complains to me about how my piano is not a baby grand (even tho it is) and that my piano weighs about 200 pounds more than a baby grand (how can that be?). They get the piano on the dolly as it they are going to try and move it in one piece which is obviously NOT going to fit through my front door. I have to explain to them that the piano movers who delivered the piano brought it in in 5 separate pieces (legs, pedals and body). After more whining and complaining, they disassembled it and moved it onto their truck. To their credit, they were fast and I didn't have to have them in my house for very long. PICK ANOTHER COMPANY. read more
