I needed to terminate the exorbitant contract at my 96-year-old father's property. I am not sure they actually come, as he'll get a notice they sprayed for ants, and he'll be overrun with ants. 100% agree with all the other reviews here... They came to our door at 7:35 PM, on Memorial Day... This company is a pain in the ass to all the neighborhoods in the Northern Virginia area... They blatantly ignore No Soliciting signs and continue to push their product after repeatedly being told NO. The company's pathetic attempts at an apology just will not do - They clearly don't learn the lesson, or don't care. You'd think multiple pages of reviews bashing them for these tactics would drive the point home. REPORT them to the BBB and your local Consumer Protection Division within the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney who handles complaints about deceptive business practices and harassment. We had one named Jayden(?), today, who wouldnt stop pestering my elderly grandmother. They tried throwing the classic "I do work for your neighbor" bullshit. After telling him over and over in a gentle way that she didn't want the service, he just kept on and on.. I was listening thru the Ring camera and finally had enough and went downstairs and said in exact words "I've heard her tell you four times she doesn't want the service. Take a step back, and have a nice day." ..and they do this every year.. Despite the fact that there is a NO SOLICITING sign on the mailbox.. (God help any woman these creeps visit). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Finally at prompting he started in with, "Well we're in the neighborhood helping your neighbors..." (common line, no... they're NEVER helping your neighbors), so I told him I'm not interested and started to shut the door. Quick read tells me the whole company is a perfect fit for creeps like this, so I ain't gonna waste my time telling them they should fire him. We had a 'mouse-in-the-house', and called Moxie. This was back in late '24. They came out servicing the insides and the outsides, promising to return 'monthly' ... they DID NOT. When they did return it was a quick and quiet walk around the outsides of my house ONLY ! They never even knocked. For this half-ass 'service' (if you'd care to call it that) they attempted to charge a full service fee. I called Moxie on their inept 'service' and cancelled immediately over the phone. Outright subscription scam. They come around door-to-door, offer a discounted service, get you under contract and just keep billing fees. Totally ignore the "no soliciting" sign on the doors around our neighborhood, too. I was a customer of Moxie for a little over 6 months and I will say that my bugs got worse after signing up. We had several additional appointments to address these concerns but they seemed to be to no avail. The bugs got larger and more frequent. I will say that the techs that work for this company are nice but the price associated with the service considering my experience, not worth it at all. Next, you should read the fine print on the contract because there is NO WAY OUT! Even if the service isn't working and the additional treatments aren't working, NO WAY OUT! I even sold my house and moved to a state that doesn't have Moxie. Nope, NO WAY OUT. I had to end up paying the early termination fee which was 80% of the total remaining fees for the year. They were "nice enough" to wave $50 of that fee after I thoroughly explained the situation with bugs and it not helping but I feel as tho I shouldn't be in the hook for services that I do not feel met my expectations. I'm putting this review out there so that buyers can beware and not sign up for such services. Looking back, I should have just bought some supplies and did it myself. I used their services for about five years but could never really say I was satisfied with them. Their pricing seemed high and the one issue I needed dealt with--mice--never seemed to be fully addressed. Most importantly, this company seems to have a business model of creating their own business. A year or two into our relationship they recommended a termite treatment, at a cost of several thousand dollars, based on termites found several yards from my house. A couple years later, they offered a free attic inspection. The inspector then told me that I likely had mice in my attic and probably snakes--a classic line to instill fear in the homeowner and have them agree to what the company wanted to do, which was take out all of my current insulation and replace it with new insulation at a far greater cost than the termite treatment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What was the final straw for me though was their promising to offer that same free attic inspection again recently. When I said "no" they didn't politely respect my wishes and move on, but asked repeatedly 5 or 6 more times via phone call and text, each time seeming to take my no for an answer until a couple of days later when they conveniently had a technician in the neighborhood[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I sent them written notification that our business relationship was over, they said they needed me to call them for "security reasons," even though I had also texted them several times telling them that we are done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The have continued to text saying that my account is still active. Moxie promise the moon and stars and delivers nothing. I asked for pest control in my kitchen and study. In two visits they never did anything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I called to complain I was told something would be done immediately. Nothing happened[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. When the next tech came and started outside I told him the problem was outside but he wouldn't budge. I am appealing to Discover citing VA contract law. Which is on my side. I had to go with Orkin. Always pay more for an honest job rather than these crooks. An incredibly uncomfortable experience at our door. A young man had already been told by my husband walking our kid on the sidewalk we don't use any pesticides. We have an Audubon certified habitat sign, that should be the first clue. As the young man went into his pitch I said we don't use any pesticide. He said, yeah, your husband just said that. So why are you here? He asked how we control ants in our house. I said we don't have any. He said my pesticide is organic. I said it doesn't matter. All pesticides kill all bugs and insects - there is no discrimination. He said but you don't want bugs. I said, yes we do, look around, the world is falling apart. Insects are a critical part of the ecosystem. I said, we're not interested and have a nice day. He insisted on talking over me and continuing as I closed the door. Geesh. Btw the best mosquito control is BT in five gallon buckets. Our property is very wet and we never have them since starting this three years ago. $5-10 a year. Google it! read more

Moxie uses fear tactics and aggressive sales to trick you into a contract that is 50% higher than the small businesses, Mom & Pop shops around the corner from your house. First of all, the representative went into the woods to look for "termites "of course you're going to find termites in the woods... It's the woods. He proceeded to tell me that it was eminent before they went and attacked my house and that I needed to have the $2400 service to ensure that my house does not get attacked by Swarmers. We negotiated the price of putting traps around the house down to $1,750. Still not having a good feeling about the entire process I was able to get a comparable quote for less than half of that! Even then, the agent from the other pest control company said I don't need it, but if I wanted to the process would be simple and less expensive. He then walked around the house to look at the bait traps that Moxie left behind and the correct bait wasn't even in the traps. It was basically empty a scam. Bottom line make sure you do your research on all the companies you encounter, mostly Moxie because they are after your wallet, not the bugs. read more

They have come to my door 2-3 times/year, despite my telling them repeatedly that I am very happy with the service I've had for a decade. They are always pushy, always try to make the conversation last longer, and always question why I'm not giving them a chance. Tonight, though, they pushed too far. A rep knocked on my door at 8:51pm. It was dark. When I explained that we are not interested and that the late night knocking was inappropriate and said goodbye, the man asked more questions and as I began to close my front door he approached more closely with more questions. Not respecting customer wishes "Free" Termite inspection. Inspector found a branch/log with termites. Not sure where this branch/log came from. Not that I'm trained, but none of the areas he indicated termites might hide have bulged or darkened in the 5 years since. I indicated that I did not want "reminders" of these upsells. Yet, I'd get a yearly reminder- several around whatever the anniversary date is. Next it's a "free" attic inspection. Again, overload of reminders. Again I indicated that I want out Now it's for mosquito treatments. At least these were up front about a $69 charge. But again- reminder overload when I didn't immediately respond "No" Based on my consistent indications that I only wanted my contracted services, they should NOT be bothering me. I prefer to let them do their work outside without any interaction with me, which they respect. Later, I retrieve the door-hanger with a summary of their work and that's it.
