I signed up with a year contract discounting the first visit, the contract said if I wanted to cancel early that it would be $150 which was the discounted price of the first visit. I thought id give them a try since I needed mostly ant and spider control and the rep told me "it's the same stuff they use in daycares and nursing homes" and that it was safe around kids and pets and assured me the honey bees that visit my yard would be left alone, this was important to me. So they came and sprayed the first visit, less than 15 mins total. They sprayed inside too and told me it should be dry within 15 mins and pets and kids could come out. I had PUDDLES of this crap for hours and had to take my kids and pets out while I waited for it to just dry. The second visit was 3-4 weeks later and weird things just happened since Moxie showed up. First, the honey bees that were supposed to be safe? They kept dropping dead by the dozens in my front yard day after day we were sweeping them up. Second, 30 mins after their second visit, as we were in the front yard, a little sparrow fell out of a low palm branch and started having a seizure and died right in front of us. Third, guess who always stayed alive and thriving absolutely unaffected by the spraying. The ants and spiders. 100% thriving. So when they notified me via email the same morning they were coming for their 3rd visit, I called the office as it opened to cancel the service. The account manager, I want to say her name was Ashley? told me she could cancel that day, that it was $150. I understand I signed the contract for a year and that was the cancelation fee. Here's my argument though: the product that they sold me has not only been wildly ineffective for its intended purpose, it is dangerous, and they have failed to provide the service as it was assured to me. Her argument is that they could have come out free of charge to do additional sprays if they knew I was still having bugs and therefore were not in breech of contract. If I'm telling you it's killing things it's not supposed to, why on earth would I call you to come and spray MORE of this poison?? I should have done more research on what it is they spray, they provide you with the list in their contract. It's 30 something pesticides. I told her some of these chemicals ARE dangerous around pets, she said no they're not, and I said that I understand she tells me this based on info the company has provided for her to say but she herself is not knowledgeable on chemicals, their neurotoxicity, or developing their formula. As an example, one of their ingredients is Permethrin, highly toxic to cats. I have two cats. It was a lengthy conversation but the highlights were... -There is nobody above her in the world to speak to, SHE is IT. -That I am not a chemist myself either so "where are you getting your information from?" -in regards to the dead bird: "well did you take it in to a vet to confirm it died of a seizure?" (Im sorry....what?!? ) -The dead bees must be coincidental So another account manager was supposed to give me a call back so see if we could resolve our issues within 24-48hrs. Nobody ever did and after a month they just charged me the $150 and sent me a receipt via email without half a word. oh, the guy still showed up to spay later that day. Had to send him away. I've been with Moxie for over ten years. I equal it to taking vitamins or medication--you think they're not doing anything for you until you stop. I remember all too well my ant-infested home during the summer in my pre-Moxie days to know it's worth the price. Yeah sometimes I have to call them to come back because the young kid they send didn't do such a thorough job removing the spider webs, but they never question it and they always do. And then there's someone like Christopher D., who very thorough, especially treating for snails in problem areas. We started with Moxie when we first moved in. The individual servicemen were usually helpful but over the last year as a corporation they stopped providing half the services under our rate plan. No warning, no options, just stopped. We didn't know until we started having problems with rats being left in their traps outdoors and ants coming in. Customer service was not helpful, just told us it was no longer covered and that's how they kept rates low. No offer of a different package, no offer to take care of it this time, just stating that it changed. So we switched. read more

Recently in November 2022, Moxie sent an email notifying all the customers that their billing cycles have changed. Went from every 3 months after service, into every months before service is done. I have called them that I am not happy with the situation, so I would like to stop my service. Then this representative transfers me to someone whose able to close my account. But, the transfer ended with "sorry this call could not be transferred, goodbye" So Moxie, is this how you treat your customers? The moment your customer decides to stop your service, you go ahead and waste their time on the phone, put them on some random Backgroind music for 20 minutes and cancels their calls? Had an issue with ONE payment. It could have been handled differently. Office Manager too stiff and more than obliging in canceling the service. Confirmed with bank a check was issued, showed proof and ask just give it time but no. they jumped right to cancel your check and make a cc payment over the phone or go to collections. So next day I stopped payment with the bank and called to do cc over phone but was told they received the check this day I called. Of course had to pay cc. So both of us had expense, my stop payment fee and they will have return check charge. Also questionable quality of service issues. Asked tech to spray the inside since I was there and it had not been done in a while and he stated we didn't give advance notice for the request. He did it reluctantly after calling his office. This company uses aggressive door to door sales tactics. Today one of their reps pounded on our door repeatedly, alternating with ringing the bell over and over. We thought a neighbor was having an emergency by the urgent and frantic pounding, knocking and ringing. My husband opened the door and the sales rep was from Moxie. She was like a phone solicitor that won't stop talking to listen to us saying, no, we don't want pesticide service. She talked aggressively over the top of my husband and said she would be coming back later. We feel harassed by Moxie. We are in an HOA and there is no door to door soliciting and we hope this person does not follow through with her threat to trespass and harass us further. I can't believe a company would actually think these tactics would result in more business. Never would I hire a company like this. Update: after my neighbor called and spoke the manager and told them we do not want her back, she nevertheless followed through on her threat and returned at 8:00 pm and looked up our cameras and said "I didn't leave!" Then she came right up close to our door and pounded insistently. I told her to leave and she kept pounding. I told her I was calling the police in a very loud voice. Nevertheless, she kept pounding and staring! I had to call the police and showed them the video footage of her threatening behavior. They had to send extra patrols to our neighborhood. As far as I know, she is still on the loose. Moxie knew how we felt and allowed her to return anyway. Ask yourself if this is the type of company you would like to invite onto your property or into your home. Getting rid of bugs - great job. Trying to cancel service with them - absolutely terrible. It was extremely frustrating constantly calling trying to cancel our service after we moved. I was told every time it would be canceled and taken care of - it was not. I kept getting notices they were coming to service the house. After calling to cancel for the FOURTH TIME (four months after moving), I was finally told I needed to pay a $120 "promotional balance". Apparently I was given a discount when I agreed to have them service my house and now I have to pay it back? Seems a little shady using discounts up front that they will charge you for later. At the 1st house we did a termite removal. alittle over 1k $$. got 'em all. got a sticker for the yard stating all termites gone. this helped to sell the home. The 2nd house all cement outside..900.plus $$ for termite removal (just in case) No termites EVER found.!!!! I did not get a sticker stating all good. No termites. They called me 1 yr after termite treatment at townhome. asked if I wanted an update inspection. I said no probably not. I'm surrounded by brick and cement. A month later I get my bank statement. Moxie had a charge for 377.40. I called asked them what was it for. they said for termites inspection. I said I did not authorize this. They said since you didn't call back we thought that was yes. I said no. and asked what did you inspect.? I'm surrounded by cement. !!! they never came out. never called. never inspected in or outside. What cost 377.40 $$ ??? to turn over a rock?? okay 5 rocks ?? I told them to put my money back to Credit Card. she said sorry we ca not do that. I've been using their service for years and while there have been a couple of normal issues over the years but Moxie ALWAYS makes it right and immediately reschedules, not one bit of a hassle and came back out at my convenience. I was roped into a "contract" by a rep named Spencer who promised us the world and that didn't happen. We've had one issue after the other such as: 1) taking days to get on the schedule 2) having appointments cancel at the last minute after waiting around all day 3) being told we will have to pay $300 to cancel our service. I wish I read the reviews prior to signing up as I left a company I was happy with. The scheduling is terrible, so is the customer service, and the truth was never disclosed when signing up for service. I get the, "I understand your frustration and I am just trying to do my job." When requesting a morning or afternoon slot, that is difficult for them to do.
