VERY disappointing experience. Did the 30-30-30 deal and was inexplicably cut short 10 minutes on the body work and 10 minutes on the foot rub! The 20 minutes of body work I did get was great. The foot rub however was incredibly weak. The atmosphere is very nice, though you can hear everything with other customers as well. I confronted the man on the way out about the time and he did not fight it at all when I said I was not tipping as a result. I would guess they do this often so beware if you go here!!!! read more

Don't go in expecting a spa because that is not what it is but it is simple and clean. The staff was very pleasant, and accommodating, even when I rescheduled twice in 24 hrs. This review is not for the service itself since they screwed up my appointment time. I had called friday evening and ask the woman on the phone what time do they open on tomorrow (Saturday). She said 9am. I ask if I could come at that time to do my foot spa. She said ok. So Saturday came, we came at 9:05, the place was closed. A sign said they don't open til 10. Hello? Do you not know what time you are open the next day? I called and left a message about being there at 9 and no one was there. I ask them to call me back to reschedule. This place was horrible. I had a groupon, so decided to give it a try regardless of the negative reviews. First, the massage was horrible. The woman I had did not know how to give a massage. I don't care if the person is not certified as long as they give good massages. However, this woman was horrible. I asked her to concentrate on my neck and shoulders because I had been sleeping wrong. It seemed like it was okay at first. Then she started elbowing my bone constantly. My massage consisted of mainly her pushing down on me with her elbows. She then "massaged" my legs which was just sliding her hands( with no pressure) over my legs. Also, she didn't use any lotion at first, so my skin was about to rip. Then, she used very little, but it was so little that the friction hurt me so much. Then the foot massage was so weak. I dont know if she was tired, but she jsut didn't care about wanting to give me a good massage. I felt like someone was tickling my feet. Then, I had the steam bath, which didn't work for ten minutes, so I was just sitting there. She didn't even check until much later. Today, my back is so chaffed and bruised from her elbowing. (I really don't bruise easily. I always get deep tissue, and had never been this sore in my life). My bones hurt and I can't move my arms properly. I really didn't want to tip but I gave her one because she was waiting for me to with her arms stretched out. The people seem nice, but I would definitely never return. It was the worst massage experience I have ever had and I am so sore that I am going to get another massage today. Please listen to the reviews and DO NOT go here. read more

Brought in the door by a Groupon, I'd head back in for the convenience to Davis Square and the unique foot-spa services provided at Mozi. Not shy to share that they are most proud of their foot services and reflexology, their soft-spoken front-staff eagerly answers questions about the unique blends of herbs that they offer to soothe customers' various ailments. Though they offer full body massages, I urge people to keep expectations reasonable and consider this little hot-spot a foot-massage spa primarily. I'm giving 4-stars for the foot-care, reflexology, foot-steaming and friendly staff. I'd purchased a combo package and though I was not disappointed by the attention Mike provided to my shoulders and back, I think their true skill lies in foot-care. My massage was appropriate; he targeted muscles, (not bones). He asked what level of pressure I wanted and honored my request. Following my table work, I was treated to a foot-soak, reflexology and foot-steaming, provided with a smile and a complimentary bottle of water. The spa was quiet and clean, the staff courteous and professional and my appointment conducted on time. True, their private room was small and sealed by a curtain, not a door, (but compared to some of the sketchy places I've seen in LA and Thailand, this place was the Ritz!) True, their bathroom was downstairs and not lavishly decorated, but, I was not going there for an amazing bathroom experience. I went there to alleviate tension in my shoulders and pains in my feet. Problems solved. Having experienced foot massages in LA and NYC, I am familiar with the difference between foot-spa places and day-spas or massage centers. When I want a superb quality full-body massage, I go to Orion at Massage Therapy Works; (he's fantastic). When I want to lounge by pools and steam rooms and dine on fresh fruit in between massage sessions, I'll head out to Burke Williams. If, after a long day of work, I just want my feet soaked and steamed with special herbs shipped from China, to help soothe my tired tootsies and reduce all of the 'dampness' my acupuncturist keeps talking about, I'll pop into Mozi. Again, know what to expect and you won't be disappointed. I'm pleased to learn of this reasonably priced convenient location in the Somerville/ Cambridge neighborhood. I've purchased an hour of foot-massage for a friend and am still confident in my decision. I believe his feet and shoulders will feel better when he leaves. They haven't answered the phone at all, their voicemail doesn't identify the name of the business, and they certainly haven't returned any calls (I've left two very polite messages). It seemed like maybe they weren't actually expecting me when I arrived, since I made my appointment through Groupon and I don't think they had checked it or something, but either way I was invited right in. Both the reflexology and the body work was awesome. I could probably do 90 minutes of just the body work. Really nice pressure and then a lovely hot towel to finish. The steam treatment on my legs got a little hot for my comfort but I just asked to turn it down and then it felt nice. He also brought me a bottle of cold water. I purchased the 60 minute foot reflexology Groupon. After reading the reviews here on yelp I was not expecting a fancy place. When I got there is was basically like a mom and pop establishment. These people are from China and do not speak and understand English well. I was able to get around enough talking to them with hand gestures and the woman working on me knew few words. Like other reviews, if you do happen to visit the bathroom, it is downstairs and it looks a bit unloved as the toilet paper holder is in the middle of the floor and wobbles when you use it. There used to be a shower in there as well. There is only one toilet as a restroom for the whole place. For the foot soak, it looks like they use hot water and teabags. It's a plastic orange tub with little spikes at the bottom which supposedly feel good if you rub you feet on them. The water was very hot at first, but slowly I had to get used to it and it felt nice. After soaking your feet for about 10 minutes or so they asked me to sit on the ottoman across from the comfy chair as they massaged my neck, shoulders and back. It was nice, the pressure she used is gentle as I'm used to getting deep tissue, but still good. The best part really is the foot and calve massage. I wish they understood enough english I would have just asked for this part. They use a white lotion in a clear condiment bottle-- so not sure what they actually use; which happens to be a big question mark at any asian run establishment. I didn't have any adverse reaction seeing as how I'm prone to contact dermatitis and I have sensitive skin. A negative from my experience here is the woman who did my foot massage had long sharp nails which is a little painful (but tolerable), not very sanitary, and I feel affected her ability to give me a better foot massage. These people are definitely not licensed, I've been going for massage for 7+ years by LMT's and can tell by their techniques. It doesn't bother me so much because I was hoping they were well versed in therapeutic chinese techniques-- which I'm not so sure that ended up being the case. The other negative is when I asked for change from a $20 bill I recieved two $10 bills back-- I felt like they were pressuring me to give them a $10 tip. Regardless of whether I feel she should have that much, I did give her a $10 so I could leave as my friend and I had a reservation at a restaurant in Davis Square. Overall, foot massage was good but not great -- only thing I would do here. I would not go back again because they don't speak or understand English well, the mysterious lotion, and the fact I was forced into a tip I didn't have a choice into. The area surrounding Mozi is not very nice either, it's basically a slum of Cambridge in my opinion. read more

It is sad to write this because before today I had positive experiences there which is why I wanted to send my husband for a birthday surprise. I booked the apt and confirmed 2x speaking to a male staff. I had called to se if they have apts before I bought the groupon. I was informed not to buy the groupon and just go in. I was told it would be $48. I was clear on 2 different phone occasions that it was a surprise gift for my husbands birthday. I was assured they understood. So when my husband got there he was given a different package, and again he didn't know what he was getting as it was a surprise. He was then informed at the end it was $75. So I had not given him enough money, mKing him pay for his own present. What was worse is that the manager who I had to call, named Erik was completely disrespectful and rude, even mocking me during our conversation. He did not offer any solution, but rather blamed us when all I wanted him to do was recognize his staff had a miscommunication. I am still shocked at how he spoke to me. I've been to Mozi twice now. Both times I got the One hour bodywork/ 30 min reflexology. First time I got a Male Therapist who was OK. He just seemed to go through the motions. I know their job must be strenuously boring. but there is nothing worse than looking forward to this kind of treatment and have someone detached working on you. 2.5 stars Yesterday i got a young lady named Lucy. I would rank it as one of the top 3 treatments I've had in my life. She concentrated 100% and found every not from the base of my big toe tendon all the way to a not around my left shoulder blade. If I could give 6 stars I would. So as with most massage places it can depend on who you draw that day. But in the future i will request Lucy only. read more

I would recommend Mozi to anyone looking for an enjoyable, inexpensive, relaxing experience. A few months ago, I bought Groupons for 90 minute combination massages for my boyfriend and myself. After reading recent reviews of Mozi, I admit I was a little nervous to make an appointment, but since it was already paid for I thought we should give it a shot. And I'm so glad that we did! I called on a Sunday morning to make an appointment, hoping to get in the same day. The website says Mozi is only open until 7, but the person on the phone offered to schedule us for 7:30 that night, which was a relief since I was ready for a massage that day. When we showed up, two male therapists were ready for us, and everything went smoothly. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed the body massages, and we got to sit together while we received foot massages and foot steam baths. The entire experience was pleasant and enjoyable, and while the therapists didn't talk much, I felt welcomed and relaxed. I don't think I would pay full price for the package - the 90 minute combo is valued at $100 - but there are deals listed on the Mozi website, on Yelp, and I believe there are still Groupons available, so anyone should be able to find a good deal. read more

I am extremely pleased with my experience at Mozi Foot Spa. I ended up here with a 90 min Groupon like apparently everybody else (mine was 30 min body work, 30 min foot massage/reflexology, 30 min foot steam). I showed up without appointment a wed night at 7 pm and they took me without a problem. Bodywork: it was good! I went in with severe lower back pain, told them about it and now it's 100 times better! I don't get massages every week so I might not be an experienced reviewer but I know 2 things: 1) I had back pain and now i don't 2) last time I went with the same pain to a massage therapist (paying a lot more) and had equally good results. Foot Massage: also awesome and relaxing. The pressure was adjusted based on my reactions. Steam Spa: it felt super good, Only problem is that I am a very "curvy" lady (OK way more than curvy) and my legs did not fit so well in the steamer but the lady tried to adjust it to make me more comfortable. Throughout the experience I was never rushed (despite not having reserved an appointment) and I was pampered for about 120 min instead of 90 (I think my steam spa went on for longer). Decor: it's not a sleek Newbury street spa but it's comfortable and clean (and to previous yelper that complained about it I just want to say: (i) if you want a sleek Newbury street spa go and pay the appropriate price for it and (ii) the picture on their website is quite true to reality so you should have know from the very beginning what type of environment it was). Regarding the solution that they use for massage: it's simply odorless non greasy cream which left my skin nicely moisturized Regarding the "creepy guy" someone wrote about: the only guy I met was a super nice person who checked in with me repeatedly making sure I was comfortable. read more

I am from NYC and going to Chinatown for an affordable massage was one of my favorite things to do. This place is not huge on atmosphere, but it is clean and comfortable. And honestly when I am going for a massage, all I care about is the quality and skill of the masseur, not the robes, scents and music. My masseur totally nailed it. I had a groupon and went there today for a 90 minute combination package which included a 30 minute deep tissue massage, 30 minute foot massage and 30 minute foot steam bath. The massage was mediocre, it did not seem like the masseus really knew what he/she was doing (they kept switching off). The foot massage was pretty good, but they didn't use much lotion when massaging my calves which was a little uncomfortable. The worst part of the experience was the steam bath. The steam left burn marks on my legs! You don't realize how hot it really is when your sitting there but after 15 minutes I asked her to turn down the temperature and she did. But when I got up after the steam bath was over my legs were all red and very splotchy and very sensitive. Overall, not worth the groupon, just not worth going there at all. read more

I used the Groupon for the 60-minute foot spa/reflexology. Heaven. It was about 20 min. of neck, upper back and arm work, than 20 min. each for each foot/calf (wear pants you can roll up above your kneecaps). The footwork was the highlight. I like a strong massage that works out the knots. The woman who worked on me had strong hands and great pressure. I left feeling like I didn't have feet anymore because so much tension was relieved. The environment was no frills but clean and peaceful. I arrived feeling pretty stressed out and was in a happy place within several minutes. The staff was polite and nice. If you want something fancy, go to Newbury. If you want a lot of bang for your buck, here it is. I left feeling much better and will definitely be back. read more

I am assuming the lady, yiyi, was not licensed because that was the worst massage of my life. I literally asked 7 different times for more pressure without any more pressure applied. She also had no clue what she was doing. She never even asked me if I had any problem spots. As well, she never had me flip during my massage. The massage room had walls that didn't even go all the way to the ceiling. I could hear every word in the main area as well as the phone ringing every 15 minutes. Beware! You get what y you pay for: cheap prices for cheap services. While the massages themselves are great, the staff significantly shortens the time of both the foot reflexology and back/body massages. I've gone to this place about six times, with several massage therapist, and each visit the appointments lengths have been shorter and shorter - today by 30℅! Today, I booked an 11am appointment for a 90min full foot and body massage. I waited 40 mins for someone to see me, then got a 10 foot rub and 40 massage. I was there for a total of 2 hours, got 50mins massage time, and paid for a 90min session. I explained my reason of being upset and the massage therapist (Lucy) responded with, "Sorry, it's very busy." I looked around and there were no other customers being seen or waiting. After leaving my 2 hour experience, Lucy caught up with me on the street and asked me for a tip. She actually chased after me to ask for a tip on a massage that was shortened by 40mins! I completely agree with the previous yelper. I think that previous posts were a bit harsh and judgemental honestly... This place is clean and they do have great service. I've been twice with Groupon deals and got a massage both times as well as the foot reflexology and steam bath. They try hard to make sure you are completley comfortable and allowed us to change the TV channel (or turn it off, which we did), adjust the chairs exactly how we wanted, and gave us both complementary water bottles. It has a quiet, peaceful ambiance with nice Asian music playing. They used the lotion...what's the big deal?! It was non-fragrant and not greasy on me at all. I had a healing tattoo at the time and asked the women to not touch it and she totally understood and avoided the area. Some minimal English skills but we communicated just fine when we needed to, and they always asked if everything was okay. They did not put their hands out and ask for a tip, but instead seemed very grateful when I gave them one. I have had many massages in both Thailand and Indonesia and this was a better experience than many of the other places I have been to. No it's not Elizabeth O'Grady but what exactly are you expecting after paying such cheap prices? Give them a break people! read more
