We've been to Mr Bills twice now. Very thankful for a legit fresh, wild caught Seafood store with a wonderful cafe to enjoy their catch perfectly prepared in their own kitchen. The only place I've found locally where you can purchase Blue Crab meat from either the Chesapeak Bay or Louisiana. On both occasions we enjoyed fresh steamed Crabs. They were cooked perfectly with an exceptional store mixed Old Bay based seasoning. We've enjoyed their steamed shrimp which are wild caught and steamed perfectly. Their seafood bisque and the special shrimp and corn chowder is amazing. Rich, creamy, perfectly prepared chowder with just the right blend of old bay, seafood and vegetables. I've had their steamed Little Neck Clams in a white wine and garlic sauce. Delicious and served with toasted, crusty garlic bread. I have not tried their homemade Key lime pie.....yet. I plan to soon. Looking forward to trying their soft-shell crab sandwich. Mr Bills is located near Franklin and Marshall College along Harrisburg Ave. Seating is a bit limited, but there is seating inside and out. The cafe and seafood shop are house in the same space. Don't expect opulent atmosphere, but when the seafood is that good and fresh, you don't need "opulence". They have daily specials and sandwiches along with their fresh seafood. The staff is helpful, knowledgable and able to answer questions and make recommendations. I can't recommend Mr Bills more highly. Looking forward to our next visit with friends. read more

Freshness overload. Lancaster is as landlocked as you can get, but if you're seeking some fresh seafood, this is your stop. The quality is high, the variety is fantastic, the prices are slightly steep but speak to the freshness. This review is for the fish counter, not the restaurant, which is attached and named the "Classy Crab." They will shuck your oysters for you, upon request; give you recommendations for cooking their filets, the crabs have a lovely in house seasoning, and there's a stand at the Central Market as well. The staff are always friendly and there's space to move in the store. We have frequently purchased Oyster Pies at the holidays to add to our feast. Crab cakes, peel and eat shrimp, mussels, clams, you name it. Enjoy! read more

Let me qualify that by dividing Mr. Bill's place properly: There is Mr. Bill's seafood that is a fresh catch pickup counter like at a dock & Mr. Bill's "The Fat Crab Cafe" that is a sit down restaurant and it's BYOB. We ate at the Fat Crab Cafe and brought some beer in a cooler. We went on a Saturday for the "buck-a-shuck" oyster fest and got the last 10 they had. They were extremely fresh and sweet. Some of the best I've had! We also got the tomato crab bisque & it was the star of the show! Wow! I've had MD cream of crab and MD crab soup in MD many times, and this soup was a winner! It was pieces of tomato and crab with a few croutons in a creamy base of tomato bisque with heavy cream. It is my new favorite! I also got the shrimp squealers and they were a little like buffalo shrimp, but better with the bacon wrap and deep frying. The parking is a little limited, but it has 2 lots and many more on the street, so don't let that stop you from enjoying this Lancaster specialty seafood place! I took a photo of my soup as served, then a photo half eaten to show the lumpy delicious bisque that it is. Service was very fast and atmosphere was nice and warm, and had all food smells and no fish smell at all. It's all very affordable and with BYOB, you're not spending half the tab on alcohol. Wow! Disappointed, fish tacos were ok, steamed shrimp was tough with very little old bay seasoning. For a $50 meal, would not go back.

My husband and I ordered a crab cake sandwich Mac and cheese wild rice potato salad and mussels in a "wine butter" sauce. I must say it is the most tasteless boring mussels I have ever eaten. Crab cake lacked any flavor as well. Potato salad was bland at best. The wild rice was not eatable. I did finish my sandwich simply because I was very hungry walking in. Service was not very nice. The woman asked me how it was I let her know it lacked taste. Her response was you seemed to like it because you finished the sandwich so I of course let her know I was just hungry. She offered more of their"homemade butter" that was tasteless as the first mess. Her response to the lack of flavor is she likes the mussels and she likes them steamed and that the fact I liked other restaurants mussels better was the other restaurants' are frozen. Rude because even the frozen version was FAR BETTER than the meal we were served. Frozen or not Carraba's, Olive Garden, and any other restaurants that serve mussels in white wins because they are flavorful and if a meal is not up to par they offer a replacement instead of hostilely and a person opinion that frankly did not make the meal taste any better. Spent $71.00 to be treated like that. Definitely not a value either. Definitely will not be going back there again. read more

wow ! lets see, the lobster sandwich is like you won the lottery lol . You will never eat one again anywhere and be satisfied ! The crabby fry's have real crab meat on top of potato wedges with cheese, simply delicious ! Its a BYB place , so be prepared to bring your own alcohol, the only downside is that there is no ice tea or similar drinks , only sweet soda or water. Got the lobster roll there and let me say it was completely disappointing. There was zero flavor to the lobster roll, it was overdressed and soggy and who puts bitter greens beneath a lobster roll? If you use any kind of green, you use Boston lettuce, which is mild and sweet. On a positive note, the service was good. Overpriced!!! Crabs were good but you can get much better for your dollar. Still prefer she's got crabs in york or Maryland.

This was our first experience with Mr Bills and we called and ordered two takeout entrees. When I got home with the food, the first thing I noticed was that there were no side salads, which the menu clearly stated were included with each entree. My crab cake was okay and she enjoyed her halibut. We both got the cole slaw, which she thought was quite good, but I felt had too much vinegar in it. We also both got the asparagus, which looked like it had come off a steam table, the color was cooked out of it, the top sections were mushy and flavorless, and the bottoms had a woody consistency, most likely due to not being trimmed properly. The wait staff were very pleasant, both on the phone and in person. Everyone was wearing masks and, where necessary, gloves, and proper distancing was being practiced. I really want to like this place. But, the tables did not get cleaned between guests, the girl who took the orders was eating in the order area while giving most of her attention to the cook. She did not bag my takeout food and just handed me a bag to do it myself. Other workers cruised through the area eating and talking. The tables were not bussed. Crabcakes didn't taste like all crabmeat.. Not good for the price they charge. And for what it's worth with whatever they did to it it wasn't the best. Never had coleslaw in a fish taco, didnt like it but others may. The tropical salsa I don't know what went into making that bit I wouldn't order that fish taco again. Ordered a Shrimp tray for the holidays and picked it up today. Did not notice the cocktail sauce container did not have a lid until we got home (12 Miles away)so there was cocktail sauce all over the shrimp. I called to ask if they were aware that there was no lid and was told that was standard procedure! YOU MUST BE KIDDING! We had to reconstruct the tray and buy cocktail sauce from Weis to make it presentable. The person answering the phone asked if they could do something to make us happy. REALLY? Yeah give me a full credit! I'm not going to drive back to the store only to have them wash the shrimp off. Needless to say if we had not looked at it before going to the party we would have looked like idiots!! I can't believe it. That is just either being cheap to save 10 cents on a $90. order or just plain stupid. It will make me go elsewhere. If they rely on the fact that they are the only fish store in the area, they are mistaken. I will not trust the quality or their ability to supply "fresh" seafood. read more

I am from the DC Maryland area and a crab lover. I have lived in Lancaster for 2 years and while everyone raves about Mr. Bill's Seafood, I have yet to see what the hype is about. Your prices are ridiculous and the kids you have running it show terrible customer service. Your fish sandwich was bland, and twice you messed up crab orders. I try to give you a third chance today and pre order steamed crab legs to be picked up at 5pm only to arrive and hear we never get laced your order. I am so pissed right now! Thanks for nothing ! My family has been going here to buy crabs since 1994. So glad a local business is still open after all these years. I just came back over thanksgiving weekend to buy some blue crabs and it was delicious! From the seasoning to the freshness of the crabs. Not to mention the excellent customer service! Mr. Bill's has been my go-to for crabs in the summer for 9 years. It's like walking into a time warp for me (back to childhood) where the gleaming blue crabs are pulled from barrels and displayed for you as you dither about size, and the number of crabs. It's never disappointed-- plus, the owner knows exactly where each crab comes from, down to the bend in the river! (Note: crabs are not nearly as cheap as they were in 1982, but that's not Mr. Bill's fault.) I was delighted when the cafe opened, and the fish sandwich and seafood stew (chowder? soup? the red one) is always tasty. Last week, though, they outdid themselves, turning around a platter of cocktail shrimp (large, wild caught, freshly steamed and peeled and deveined) with less than 18 hours notice. Poor service. Waited 20 minutes for someone to help us to order shrimp and crabs. when someone finally was able to help us they were very rude. After an hour and a half of waiting for our steamed food, I asked how much longer and they said "well we don't know what kind of shrimp you want." That probably could have been a question asked when ordering. Eh food. The crabs ended up not have claws on them and they were not very meaty. There was not a lot of seasoning on the food. Had the fish tacos .. damn good too but for what it's worth I would recommend a corn tortilla the juices from The fish n veggies made the tortilla a little soggy . Best crabs anywhere! I would know. I've had them shipped to me in my RV to far away lands! I also recommend the Chesapeake eggs and steamed shrimp. If you're local, the Fat Crab Cafe is an awesome restaurant for lunch and dinner, with a variety of chef inspired menu items, both land and sea, for reasonable prices. I prefer carry out but the atmosphere is very clean and friendly. Great place to dine with friends on the patio, weather permitting. read more

A seafood lovers dream come true. Our main objective while in Lancaster county was to have blue claw crabs. We were going to drive to Maryland as in the past, but decided to try someplace local. Mr.Bill's Fat Crab Cafe had such rave reviews and was not far at all. Plus, it had real tables, no picnic tables, a parking lot so you didn't have to street park. We went on a Sunday at 11:00 a.m. when they opened. What a great experience! We've had crab before, but never blue claw crab. The first thing we noticed was the incredible cleanliness and no fish smell whatsoever! The place slowly started to fill up. We had our questions of what they look like. My mother and I decided to have three jumbo crabs each rather than little tiny ones. We began with our clam and corn soup. Absolutely incredible! I wanted to order a gallon of it right then and there. We also ordered some delicious cornbread which were crispy on the ends. Delicious! When the crabs arrived, we were shown how to eat them and use the mallets. Oh! Just terrific!! Plus, it's a great way to get aggression out! Haha! After the first crab, we got the hang of it. Such a fun experience and delicious as well. We looked at what other people were ordering as well. Big portions all around. Tim very nice and told us the history of his excellent establishment and was a real source of information when it comes to seafood. The people that work there are a real credit to the dining industry. It's nice to see people have pride in their work and it's infectious. The bathrooms are spotless and very convenient for handicapped and non. This was the real highlight of my restaurant experiences. This was my first experience buying seafood from Mr. Bills and I was very pleased! I bought a dozen of crab stuffed mushrooms. I broiled them with a generous spritzing of olive oil and a sprinkle of Hungarian paprika. Simple & good. This story gets better though. I bought a pound and a half of dry scallops. Omg! These were the best quality scallops I have purchased in a long time. Plump, beautiful & absolutely delicious. There is a WORLD of difference between good quality dry scallops and the soaked/wet junk scallops you buy at a grocery store. Of course you're gonna pay more for the dry scallops - they are of far better quality. I look forward to returning here for my future seafood needs! read more
