I was really disappointed with my experience at Mr. Charles Chicken and Fish on Cambridge. The chicken was, without exaggeration, the saltiest chicken I've ever had in my life. It was overwhelming and honestly hard to enjoy. To make matters worse, no dipping sauce was offered at all--something that could have at least helped balance out the excessive salt. It felt like there was no attention to the overall taste or customer experience. On top of that, the wingets were extremely small--like they came from baby chickens. Came here for my besties birthday. Now the music is great however getting our seat's for a party of four was difficult. On Fridays they have a live Dj and do adult karaoke. I ordered the turkey wings, mac and cheese, and cabbage and collard mix. When my food arrived my turkey wings were cold and the rest of the food was only lukewarm‍ and their sanitation grade was only a 93. My espresso martini was average. The star was the heavily seasoned salmon Bites. They were delicious. I was disappointed with the crab cake as it was smashed to smithereens. With the amount of people that were there, I was surprised we were seated and served as quickly as we were. This is a local spot that's popular with an older demographic. The restaurant is not tiny but it is smaller and can get very crowded. The customer service left a lot to be desired. The drinks were sugary and not really strong. They were served in very small cups. The food was just ok and the staff were unorganized. Mr. Charles Chicken and Fish used to be my absolute favorite place to eat. I especially loved the new Dalton Street location. However twice in a row they have let me down. Yesterday while we was there, we had a party of six and there were we got our table really quickly. We only had a 15 minute wait which that was rare and but we waited an hour before we order what we wanted it took us. We ordered drinks and it took almost half an hour for the drinks to come. They were literally rolling up the carpets for closing before we even got our food and it was very disappointed because I watch people that come in after us get served one man got his food and ate it and was gone before we even got our food. There was another table of four that was beside us and they got their food before we got so I've come to the conclusion that if you go there with the party of six they automatic gratuity so they really don't care about the service that they give you because they're gonna get their tip either way and very disappointing because we were there and we deserve to be seen and we deserve to get our things in atomic manner as well. The first time that they let me down was with the 6% gratuity I got my bill. It was like $180 and I said do you gratuity because I was getting ready to give her a tip as well she said no there's no automatic gratuity on there so bill $180 but when it went through on my the gratuity was charged so they got gratuity plus a nice $50 tip so they got me twice and unfortunately it will be my last time! read more

OMG, this place was so good. Nice atmosphere, music playing in the background was nice but allowed for conversation. Clean bathrooms and tables and servers that were friendly and clearly seasoned. The place run like a well oiled machine. The food, was amazing. The side salad to start was fresh and crisp and obviously not from a bag. Every order came with hush puppies that were slightly sweet (as hush puppies should be) and crunchy. Thank goodness you only get a few with your meal as I could have downed a plate of them by themselves. The coleslaw was delicious. I just left this place, and trust me, I've always been a fan of a good soul food restaurant owned by people who look like me and seeing young kids working hard. But when I tell you I'm beyond disappointed... My entire order was disgusting, and to make matters worse, the bread had mold on it. Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish is a good soul food restaurant with a laid back atmosphere. I got the Flounder dinner with hush puppies, Mac and Cheese, Yams and a roll. The flounder was well seasoned. The Mac and cheese was good and cheesy but the Yams was the best thing in the meal. The Yams were perfectly sweet and savory. To satisfy my sweet tooth we got the miniature sweet potato pies. To get my food order was placed at around 3 o'clock on a Friday. Do not come here on an empty stomach. The place is clean and well lit. The decor is very inspirational and motivational. In the music is a smooth R&B theme. The whiting and the fried chicken were good however, the greens have a lot of vinegar and we're not to my liking. The mac & cheese is homemade and the hush puppies were just OK. The yams were very sweet. The drinks are not strong at all. The price you pay does not match the price on the menu. They need to reprint their menus to reflect the price that you are charged. But after waiting so long to get my food, I was ready to go and willing to pay the additional dollars per each item. We stopped in here on a Sunday around 620 and they wouldn't seat us because they close at seven. We found the information on Google and it said they closed at 10. So we went ahead and ordered and didn't get our food until 650. Not ideal because we could've eaten here but they don't seat anybody after 615 Sunday fyi. It was my first time ever eating here and they had all the back doors closed my friend who lives in the area was pretty upset because she really want us to show us the place but that's the way it went.
