The food here is always delicious! My personal favorite is the stuffed shrimp and my drink is Debbies Rum lunch. My only complaint is I have to drive all the way from Gentilly to get here. do not go for seafood. food is very overpriced considering the qualit. we got a Bloody Mary that had enough pepper to see the sidement on the bottom. crabcakes were decent I did not like how many bones were in mine. and my partner got redfish Amanda that was decent rice was overcooked. I feel like this place leaves a lot to be desired. The background music is terrible. It's a little too dark. The garlic bread was completely boring and substandard as were the salads. I decided to leave a review today because I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak (below average) with Mashed Potatoes and Corn. I had the lasagna which is prepared just as I like it, sauce has a pleasant sweetness and was served piping hot. My wife ordered crab cakes 3 cakes , steamed broccoli and Brabant potatoes. Crab cakes were well seasoned served with a large fried shrimp on each. Broccoli steamed tender not mushy, potatoes serve as a filler don't add anything to the dish. Both entrees served with medium size salad . We each had a glass of house wine with dinner. Been to this Mr. Ed's several times and I'm always pleased with their food and service. Large selection of seafood and Italian dishes. And fried chicken. I never ordered the chicken in the past as they had a note on the menu saying to allow a 1/2 hour for it to be prepared. Well, thats not the case anymore. This is excellent fried chicken, reminds me of the style my grandmother used to make on Sundays. No strong spices, perfectly fried, not the least greasy, moist and delicious. Mixed drinks here can be inconsistent, very good one night and awful another. They could also improve the wine by glass offerings, not enough choices to match their menu. I'd eat more of the Italian dishes here but they only have one crappy choice for an Italian red. read more

Our meals were delicious and the service was great. My only complaint is that the menu should state, or the server should tell you, what sides come with the entrees. I ordered the stuffed bell peppers, which were delicious, the menu said it was served with salad. When my meal came it also came with mashed potatoes with gravy and corn. Both of which I didn't want and would have subbed for something else. My boyfriend had the redfish Amanda which was also delicious and it came with a salad and served with green beans. Luckily he traded sides with me. Other than that everything was wonderful and we will go back but will just have to be sure to ask what sides come with the meal. read more

We went to Mr. Ed's last evening and, I must say, it was an excellent experience. Gary was our server and he was pleasant. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and rattled off the daily specials without a hitch. All of our courses came out in a timely manner and our glasses never reached the point of empty. When we got to the dessert course, I got a bananas foster pie. It was so good that I would go back just for that. Overall, a 5 star experience in my book! read more

Sold four stars. I recommend a few dishes, and I can recommend a few dishes to not get. My favorites are: the talapia with lemon butter sauce, the spaghetti and meatballs, the tuna steak, and the red beans and rice. The white beans and rice are very bland, in my opinion. There is also another dish, I can't remember the name, but it was a tuna that was served over a bed of garlic and tomato pasta. The tuna was good, the pasta, not so much, at all, in fact. Saturday evening about 7:00 PM, dinner for two. Arrived without a reservation, lots of folks waiting to eat. We were told it would be 15 minutes, so we waited at the bar. Nice bar, busy, lots of people hustling around. This was my first visit to the restaurant. Decor is very similar to the Mr. Ed's on Veterans down to the same color paint on the wall. We were seated in the main dining room after about 20 minutes. It's kind of pain that you have to pay the bar tab before being seated. The bartender suggested this was to insure they were tipped appropriately. Funny that lots of restaurants seem to have resolved that issue. Table service was prompt, quickly getting drinks and orders taken. . I had a cup of the Turtle Soup to hold me over to the main course. Interesting taste, unique in that has an orange flavor in it. I'm still trying to decide it i like it or not. I may have to order another cup to find out. I ordered the lima beans with shrimp and breaded pork chop. My dinner mate had the crab cake special. Food was served in a timely manner. I was a little surprised at the appearance of my meal. Under the "excuse my ignorance category", I expected lima beans to be the green vegetable lima beans. I'm sure it is no surprise to locals that it was the "baked beans" kind of lima bean. This probably only makes sense to someone who has lived up north. Fortunately, I am flexible. It's not a particularly attractive plate, white rice, beige gravy, beige beans and beige shrimp, but it was pretty good. Pork chop was no more than ok, it probably was done about 10 minutes before they stopped cooking it. Great cornbread, more like cake than bread. Now the crab cake special looked really good. Fresh vegetables, big shrimp, tasty crabcakes and red potatoes. I'm ordering that next time. Service was excellent. Kept the glasses filled and the table clean. Didn't hover and didn't try to entertain. Got the bill to the table and processed quickly. I don't know the waiters name which is perfect. My only complaint about the entire meal is the background music. Sounds stupid, but we were seated under a speaker, so we could hear it clearly. They play light rock and roll which is fine. I'm not sure it is needed as the restaurant is fairly noisy anyhow. Regardless, the problem is the quality. They need to fix the static in the system. It's just annoying when the music keeps fading in and out. Overall, nice atmosphere, very good service, above average food and very reasonable price. There is a reason this place is so popular. I'm a big fan of this place. An intimate atmosphere and excellent service, paired with food that is certainly something to make an audible "mmm" over, makes it a keeper in my book. I particularly like the oyster po-boy here; always fresh and completely stuffed with those mini-bits of heaven...it's great! False advertisement and pretty sure illegal! The "veal" that is on the menu isn't veal! It isn't even the same species of veal. It is actually PORK!!! I'm sure my Muslim and Jewish friends would love to know this bit of information! Also, all "trout" dishes are actually sheepshead and the redfish that is on the menu is really red drum/red snapper. While the food is decent, the quality and consistency of the dishes vary wildly depending on the time of day and day of the week. Also, the outright disregard and misrepresentation of menu items makes me never want to eat here! How is this proprietor still in business with these types of business practices?!?! read more

It should be less than a one star but it was as low as I could go. Once this was a great place to eat with consistent service and food quality. My last three experiences have terrible and the last was our final time to eat here. 1. Food quality has diminished to the point we would rather eat fast food. 2. Price has steadily increased and the quality has as above mentioned decreased. 3. Service has gone from tolerable to amateur hour. Servers bring food out in questionable order and on out last visit didn't serve my entree at all and wasn't apologetic at all. I believe it is a direct reflection of the management as when presented with what happened the attitude became apparent. It must be contagious because it happened on another occasion with a different manager. We do indirectly know the owner and will let them know our experiences. or many years. We continue to visit it because of the friendly staff and the many other regular customers with whom we've become a bit of a "family". We look forward to continuing to patronize Mr. Ed's in the future. However, we will be considering other choices if things don't improve at the Kenner location. Note, I reviewed this as a "two star" now; however, a year or so ago, it would have been a "five-star." Recent changes in this restaurant, including the quality of the food, are prompting me to write this review. Recently, we have noticed that the overall quality of the food has been decreasing. Specifically, the fried chicken (which used to be one of the best in town), and at least one other "favorite" were extremely salty. (We sent one dish back recently!) This has also been noticed by other "regulars. We found similar quality issues with other dishes that we ordered, and have been told that some of the kitchen staff has "turned over". Also, recently, they updated their menu with new prices and, at the same time, seemed to lower their serving sizes. While we realize that prices will increase over time, what struck us at first was the numerous typographical errors on the menu, many of which could have been caught through a simple spell checker. We sent an email to the "general manager" of Mr. Ed's restaurants pointing out many of the typos, and have yet to hear a response, nor have the menus been edited. I know that the owner (Ed) has opened several restaurants in New Orleans over the past year, and I am certain that his current focus is on getting these restaurants up and running. I am writing this review on Yelp with the hope that he focuses a bit on the overall quality of this restaurant (one of his oldest), as it seems to be an ignored "step-child" that he may be taking for granted. We would hate to see this happen as we would like the downward slide of this restaurant to stop. Again, we are longtime "regulars". What must new customers think when they see the menu, taste the not-as-well-prepared dishes? read more
