Mark at Mr. Lucky cut my hair for years. During Covid I started cutting it myself. Lately I haven't been happy with the job I was doing. I wanted a professional Summer Cut. I was the first one there at 9am when Mark opened. No appointment necessary. The cut is $30 now. They have started taking credit cards, Visa anyway. There's a $1 credit card fee and $1.40 tax. No tax if you pay cash. I'll be better prepared to pay cash next visit. As I said in my earlier review I recommend Mr. Lucky and especially Mark. I'm very happy with my new cut! read more

I brought my son to Mr. Lucky for a quick haircut and were disappointed with the results. For my son, I asked the barber for a number two skin fade with the top on the longer side. I don't think the barber understood English very well. He buzzed the sides w a number two but no fade and then started cutting the top of his hair to short. Despite me trying to explain multiple times why the haircut was not right, he couldn't make the adjustments. Luckily another barber heard my issues w the haircut and literally moved my son to his chair and fixed the haircut as best he could. The result was a nice fade but w a very short top. This haircut is very common in barber shops across NYC, so I was surprised we had issues w the first barber. Overall the other three barbers seemed to be giving their clients the haircuts they had asked for, but this barber shouldn't be working at this shop. My overall feeling is that if we had started w a different barber, we would have gotten the cut we initially requested. My suggestion is to use either the female barber or one of the middle-aged men if you are looking for a modern cut. read more

I said two on the sides--not say two on top--but was subsequently given a two on top and not trimmed like I wanted it. By the time the razor touched my hair, it was too late. In addition, the person responsible for my hair never said how my neck should be trimmed or the length of my sideburns. I still tipped 30% since it might have been a fluke and the gentleman was very, very nice - but I'm probably not coming back here. read more

I called to the shop and made an appointment for my first time going in. Upon first entering, it looks like a hole in the wall, no sign indicating the name of the business. After being greeted and hanging my coat, I was asked to take a seat and we proceeded with the consultation. I used a picture as a visual aid of what I wanted and the barber, Ariel, took the time to cutting my hair and going over it to polish off the look. I was very happy at the end and I hope to try this place again in the end. read more

I had gotten great haircuts from Mark at Mr. Lucky in the past, but I recently I decided to try having highlights and was more than pleasantly surprised. Elena is new addition and she not only did a fabulous job but went out of her way to customize the process for my very fine, thin hair even showing me samples of non ammonia toner. Since I was to attend an event later in the afternoon she blew dry my hair and rolled it up so I cold comb to later. She was attentive and, best of all, she did the same job as more expensive Madison Avenue salons. I also learned she is a second generation stylist and knows her business. I've gotten my haircut here a few times and my advice would be to avoid the female barber. She does not seem like she knows what she is doing, gave me the most disinterested haircut, cut off my sideburns without asking, and was defensive whenever I would ask her something. Fortunately, Mark came at the end of the haircut to correct her mistakes but this left me feeling like I will seek elsewhere for my next one. If you come here, go to Mark, nobody else. read more

Excellent cuts. I have been going to Mr. Lucky's for two years now. This is a great barber shop. I have had great luck with all of the barbers. The shop is clean and everyone is friendly. I find that if you go in the evenings on a Saturday or Sunday, it is filled with a bunch of dads and their boys--which means a lot of waiting and curing over wanting their lollipop before the hair cut--so go early to avoid the kids. Bring cash. Oh, and the prices are reasonable and the cuts are excellent, so tip very well, OK. Your getting your haircut on the UES in Carnegie Hill, so if you live here I know you can afford a few extra singles (or larger) as a tip for these guys. read more

OK, I get my boys hair cut here and its fine, not amazing but does the trick... On the other hand, I tried to get a blowout. The sign said the woman was from the Red Door Salon on 5th Avenue. Let's just say you really do get what you pay for!!! Not only did it take an hour, look worse than when I do it, AND, I had a headache from ALL the hair pulling! I don't think she realized my hair was actually attached to my head! Note to self, spend a bit more! read more

I went to Paul Mole for years --decades, in fact--and never got a compliment on a haircut. I've gotten several since I started going to Mr. Lucky. My first haircut there, though still conservative, was much more youthful than my previous ones had been. The place was suggested to me by someone in the neighborhood who used to work for Project Runway. How bad could it be, I thought, if he goes there? The prices are reasonable and, while Mark is outstanding, Anthony is also excellent, and the other barbers probably are too. I have recommended Mr. Lucky to several people and hope it continues to thrive. read more

Mr. Lucky Barber shop is the best spot for a haircut in the entire Carnegie Hill area. Mark, the owner, is an excellent barber and a great guy. His new location on Lexington between 94 &93rd Street is very nice. Definitely give Mr. Lucky a try. The prices are reasonable. read more
