Tried 4 kinds of vegan cake over the weekend here. Everything in their baker looks awesome! We wanted to try more but 4 slices of cake was already a lot of food so held off on ordering the pastries until next time. The best of all the cakes was the Black Forest- I did not have high hopes for this one because I've never cared for Black Forest at other places- the cherry flavor is usually too artificially sweet and cloying, but this one was divine! Super creamy frosting, moist cake, and delicate cherry flavors. Perfection! We also tried the chocolate peanut butter (good but not as peanut buttery as we were hoping), the chocolate cake (tasty but too sweet in the frosting) and the well-spiced carrot cake. But the service!!!! Only two of us in line, three behind the counter seemed to spend more attention to their attention to their phones than us. Took at least 10 min to get served. She gave me cake. I ate it while waiting for other items, then drank Juice while still waiting. 20 min for a taco was a bit much. There was some confusion behind the counter. This is one of my go to places for lunch since it's near my office. And my go to order is always the macho nacho with vegan queso and the mole fries. Wanted to update my experience here! If you want something sweet to finish the meal off with, you can't go wrong with the vegan choc donuts which is what they're really known for. I also love their bravarian donut but they don't always have that. The German choc cake is nice and moist. I've tried some of their other cakes and cookies. The cookies are on the dry side and anything with cinnamon in it is really strong. I don't mind a hint of cinnamon but it seems like they go heavy on the spiced desserts like the carrot cake. While I have enjoyed the food here sincerely, my partner and I recently had a bad experience (kitchen/server error - hence the one star). We are both vegan, and my partner also has health issues with dairy and egg consumption. We ordered a vegan queso. However, my partner experienced some health challenges later that day that only come up with dairy consumption. She now recognizes Mr. Natural had incorrectly filled her order with non-vegan queso. While it's sad we won't be coming back as we enjoy supporting small, local businesses, we would like to ask Mr. Natural to stop making non-vegan queso and only serve vegan queso to avoid kitchen making mistakes like this one, potentially harming their vegan and/or allergy-sensitive customers. read more

Needed omg a little sustenance while on the Eastside, Mr. Natural was calling my name. I've never been before, so I really didn't have any particular expectations other than it was a vegetarian, health food slot. You're seated at a table but have to order at the counter before. The menu was pretty vast, but vegetarian tacos dominated. I opted for a probably more unusual dish - the steel cut oatmeal. It was pretty creamy, and definitely more liquid-y than hearty, but the flavor was there and hit the spot and satisfied my sweet tooth without over- indulging. I haven't been out to a restaurant since early march, but every once in awhile, i'll have delivery to make things seem normal. I ordered two of the same plate, the vegetable tamales with salad, rice & beans at $15 a plate. it's a dish that is reliable and always good at Mr Natural. as we opened the boxes, it was a real bummer to see the combo of salad, rice and beans, all smashed on top of each other. maybe separate compartments? or even use the tamales as borders. Happened upon this place when visiting Austin and I am so happy I found it. I loved that they have lots of vegetarian options. I had their chili cheese dog. Yum! It was huge. I had to use a fork and knife. Their spinach pineapple juice was delicious. I'm sure it had a lot of sugar (agave) in it, but I was splurging, so I didn't mind. This place was a huge let down for us. I was in town for my birthday and wanted a nice vegan breakfast to start my day. We came on a week day and it was pretty empty inside. There are no frills to this place, just order at the register and take a number to your seat. Usually places like that serve up the best eats! I ordered the tofu migas which were like chilaquiles with tofu. It came with a side of beans and tortillas. The tortilla strips were soggy right away and I expected a better flavor. The beans, however, were very good! The plate also came with tater tots which were VERY stale as if they had cooked them days ago. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast burrito with eggs and when he was asked which salsa he wanted, he didn't realize it was because it was going to be poured onto the burrito for a wet style burrito. A negative for him, but it would've been a positive for me and others, so just be aware. He enjoyed his meal more than mine but he said it was nothing special. He also agreed my tots were gross. We also ordered a vegan brownie and vegan muffin to go so we could enjoy them with coffee later. That brownie was soooo good! Overall, I would give this place another try but maybe on a weekend when they are busier so that maybe the food is fresher. This is a pretty generous four stars but I am pretty confident with that . . . for now . . . dun dun dun dun! I came here once back in 1999 - had some baked goods - thought they were pretty mehhh because they were unlike the excessively sugary commercial goods I was so fond of at the time. "Healthy" cookies and muffins? And vegan? No thanks! (Note: I was junk food vegetarian at the time.) Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago - we were about to head out to ACL Fest and being that the vegan offerings were few and far between (shockingly, grrr), we decided to grab a quick lunch at Mr Natural. Healthy vegetarian/vegan Tex Mex is an interesting concept and by that I mean, I was reluctant to believe it could actually be executed in a delicious manner. We opted for the lunch special - it was around $7-8? Your choice of entree, a salad, and side. I chose the soy guisada, potato salad, and two of the tamales. The potato salad is indeed marvelous. It's probably not one of the healthiest things here, but I had to try it based on the raves. Pretty simplistic and not an overzealous amount of mayo and seasoning. The tamales were pretty all right and filling, although a bit dry - but the lunch hours were tapering off by the time I chose them. The soy guisada was a proficient use of textured vegetable protein chunks - I usually dislike those morsels of freaky chewiness, but they worked well with the sauce. All in all a pretty satisfying lunch (not mind-blowing admittedly, but "good") that fueled me for the rest of the day and didn't destroy my insides or sedate me into a food coma. We also had some of the banana bread and I had a earthy fibrous muffin - somehow these things taste now taste fantastic to me as I'm a little more health conscious in my advancing age. Nicely naturally sweetened, unrefined flours, and real fruit flavors - delicious and nutritious. Oh and yeah, an attached grocery store well stocked with all sorts of natural and organic foods and products. Didn't get the chance to peruse the aisles, but I plan to next time I visit Mr Natural - will be back. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Mr. Naturals is my go to place for vegan baked goods. THEY HAVE KILLER BROWNIES. Another very popular bakery item are their chocolate donuts. I absolutely loved their banana walnut muffin and chocolate gf muffin because they were full of flavor, moist, not cakey, and dense. They even have gf options. I've tried their vanilla soft serve and it was way too icey and bland but their pumpkin spice and charcoal soft serve twist (seasonal item) was BOMB. 10/10 recommend. I believe its an almond milk base. I haven't tried their food yet but this has been the closest I've come to a vegan bakery that does it right. They have a vast variety of items to choose from and even sell their day old stuff in bulk for sale (just as good in my opinion!) they offer rewards through an app for discounts on next purchases. YUM! Overall great place to stop in for food, dessert, a quick bite, or anything from their mini market place (on side is a refrigerated Wall with drinks and other select items/ vegan food). MR. I ordered the bbq seitan sandwich and when It arrived at my table I thought, mmm! This looks good. But 2 bites in, it fell apart into a soggy mess. The bun was too thin, not toasted, and just yucky. Unfortunately the same thing happened about a month ago when my husband ordered the turkey sandwich, the bread fell apart and he had to eat it with a knife & fork. I have waited a week to post this review because I wanted to be as thoughtful as possible. I do not take leaving negative reviews lightly, especially for locally-owner and family-owned establishments, and especially during a pandemic. I understand that sometimes people have bad days. I understand that mistakes happen. But I was treated poorly and an honest review is warranted. I ordered a cake online from the Mr. Natural bakery. I have typically used another vegan bakery in town but I needed a gluten-free cake this time, and a bakery that would be open on Labor Day. I was very appreciative that Mr. Natural could offer both. I arrived at 12:45, 15 minutes later than the time I requested online. I approached the counter and was told that my cake needed to be inscribed. About 15 minutes passed and then a woman approached me with the cake. The cake was taller than the box so if you closed it, the cake would be smashed. I was a bit surprised that I had to explain this to her but she said okay and that she would look for another box. About 10 minutes passed and then I saw her talking to a man, who I now speculate was the owner or manager but since he never introduced himself, I do not know.  He came over to me and said that he was in the middle of a wedding cake testing (not sure why I would care about that) but that he would try to help us. He said that that cake (a strawberry shortcake) was not normally so tall and he was unsure why it was made that way. I too was unsure! I asked how long this would take since we're now about 30 minutes into this and actually had somewhere we needed to be (with the cake). Approximately 15 more minutes passed and then he approached us with the cake in a not-terribly-attractive brown cardboard box but it was at least taller and at this point we really just needed to go. He explained that he had placed skewers through the cake and taped the box in such a way that the cake would not move in the box (since it was now much wider than the cake) and the decorations would also remain intact. I told him thank you but that I was really frustrated with the entire experience. His response, and I quote: "Well, we took care of it for you." My friend who was with me had never been to Mr. Natural before and she made it clear to me that she will not be going back. I don't blame her. I appreciate that Mr. Natural offers tasty veg*n Mexican food but this was a visit filled with ineptness from the beginning, and the rudeness was unacceptable. I have read some of the other negative reviews and the non-apology "apologies" provided by the owner. I'm gonna pass on mine, though. Thanks. read more

There are so many things I love about Mr. Natural! The variety is a big one. I always have so much trouble deciding what to choose!! The non-dairy soft serve is another.....a nostalgic treat that is hard to find nowadays without dairy, that isn't super overpriced. They have a great lunch option weekdays 11-4pm: for a set price you get salad, choice of entree (usually 3 to choose from), and choice of 2 sides ( usually 6-8 choices). On the first Sunday of every month (at this location only), they have an all-you-can-eat vegan brunch buffet that is a MUST to experience---theme/choices change every month (they usually announce on their FB what the menu will be) and I've yet to leave one not happy! This place is a vegan Mexican food lover's utopia. I had the tofu scramble migas with daiya cheese and caught a food high eating it. It was so unbelievably good and satisfying that I legitimately wanted to cry afterwards. The only thing that could make it better would be the avocado that I am going to order on it next time I eat there. A friend of a friend recommended this place and I decided to check it out with a small group. I came around lunch time when they were having their lunch special ($8.99 for a salad, 1 main dish, 2 side dishes). Price wasn't bad and the food was alright. I'm not sure if I came at a bad time but my tamales were a bit dry, along with the tortilla I got. The side of rice, gordita, and potato salad were probably my favorite parts. Since it's a lunch special, I think the food had just been sitting out for a while. I may try coming again at the beginning of lunch to give it a second chance. But the rice & refried beans were spectacular! Since I last ate there, prices have jumped. I paid ~17.00. All I'm saying is to do better on tamales & salad dressing to complement the rice & beans.
