It's been a long time since we last visited Mr. Pollo, and I have no idea why we waited so long to return. Mr. Pollo is a little place in the middle of a small strip center serving up amazing rotisserie chicken and Peruvian dishes. They don't have an extensive menu, but everything is so good. If you plan to eat in the dining area, they would like you to order at the counter first, then find a table to sit. On this recent visit, we ordered the Whole Chicken meal ($32.60), which comes with your choice of two large sides. We got the mashed potatoes & gravy and the beans. This is one of the best rotisserie chickens we've had, and the sides were quite tasty as well. They also have Loma Saltado, Chaufa de Pollo (chicken fried rice), Tallarin Verde con Pechuga de Pollo (chicken served on spaghetti with spinach sauce), and a few other dishes to choose from. It's a very popular place and the dining area is on the small side, so be prepared that you might not find a place to sit. A lot of customers take their orders "to go". If you're looking for delicious food at reasonable prices, I recommend that you check them out.

I work at a hospital down the street from this place, and it seemed like a good choice to try. I ordered the chaufa de pollo -- big mistake. The dish was served boiling hot in a flimsy clear plastic container, which didn't seem very safe or sustainable. It came with chimichurri and jalapeño sauce on the side. Unfortunately, the food was extremely greasy and tasted like it had been fried in reused oil. The flavor was disgusting, and I ended up throwing the dish in the trash. I definitely won't be coming back.

Today will be our last time ordering from Mr. Pollo. I usually share with my 4 year old and have had enough meat in the dish to share and there was practically nothing. The Togo boxes are extremely small now as well. I understand pricing across the board has gone up but if you decide to charge more give appreciate portions. $19 for fries and veggies is absurd!

Mr Pollo is the sister store of another Peruvian restaurant called Misky Misky (see my other review) the difference is this has a smaller menu, and smaller interior, but the same system of ordering at the counter and they will bring the food to your table. The menu items look familiar, and can possibly be offered at Misky Misky, since they have a pretty extensive menu there. We order 3 dishes: Arroz con pollo. Cilantro rice and grilled chicken. Perfectly grilled chicken with fluffy green rice. Tallarin verde con salmon. Basil spinach pasta with salmon: Pasta had the right chewy texture, with tender salmon. This was our favorite dish. Pechuga Al Chimichurri, grilled chicken with chimichurri, rice and salad. Grilled chicken with a subtle smoky flavor balanced well with a salad. The service was great, because we ran into the same friendly guy we met at their sister restaurant, and we will surely return to both locations.

Mr. Pollo is my family's favorite Peruvian restaurant. I still think that the Tallarin Verde, Tallarin Saltado, and Lomo Saltado here are the best in terms of flavors, but they are soooooooo salty now. It tastes as if each ingredient--each noodle, piece of meat, vegetable--was coated in salt. My family had to make steamed unseasoned broccoli on the side to relieve some of the saltiness; otherwise the food would have been nigh unbearable (we had ordered takeout). Also, note that the Tallarin verde comes with chicken by default; if you want beef, you have to order Tallarin verde con bistec (I made this mistake). The chimichurri sauce and aji verde sauces taste amazing! They do charge you extra for if you order extra sauce. I'm not sure how many sauces are included cost-free, but I did get six complimentary sauces for three entrees. I ordered takeout via phone on a Saturday at 11am. The food was ready within 10 minutes. It was piping hot. The restaurant is located within a small plaza, so parking has never been an issue for me.

We ordered the lomo saltado and it was super flavorful! It comes with your choice of sauce and you get to select 2 of the 3 options that they have. The fries weren't really crispy but the steak was tender. Service was good and we received our food within 15 minutes. This place gets extremely packed on the weekends so try to come earlier if you decide to come in on a weekend. Would highly recommend!

Second time trying Peruvian food (two places). Unfortunately both experiences have been a letdown. All of the dishes are extremely salty... The fried rice had weird ginger chunks that I didn't enjoy. The rotisserie chicken was dry. The lomo saltado's fries were soggy. Overpriced!!!

I ordered 3 lomo saltado to go and their portions are really big. For some reason every time I order this dish at a Peruvian place I get absolutely no meat. I think this dish is pretty pricey in general across the board everywhere so for the price that they sell it I feel like I got a great deal because there was a lot of food. There is a reason why this place has over 1000 reviews and it's because the food is just that good. I can't wait to go back and try the other stuff however, the LS is so good that I'm not sure if I would be able to order anything else

【Background】 Thursday, June 26, 2025, 5:10 PM If you're familiar with the food scene in Covina/West Covina, you probably know there are a few popular Peruvian restaurants around the area. Mr Pollo is the more affordable option, so I decided to visit for an extremely late lunch. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. Its interior is rustic with pale yellow walls decorated with framed Peruvian patterns and light maroon flooring. There is a decent amount of seating in the dining area, maybe 4 tables of four and 6 tables of two. There were only two parties eating here when I arrived. The ambiance was casual. The phone frequently rang, and it seemed like there was a constant stream of people entering to pick up their food, so it seems most people don't dine in. 【Food】 Menu: http://mrpollorestaurant.com/ Since I wasn't super familiar with the menu items, I researched Peruvian cuisine beforehand and learned about chifa, a term describing the Chinese Peruvian culinary fusion that originated from Chinese immigrants (mainly from Guangdong) who arrived in the 19th and early 20th centuries and mostly settled in the coast of Peru and Lima. The Chinese Peruvians eventually imported ingredients and grew Chinese vegetables, although they still couldn't prepare authentic versions of their dishes. Over time, Peruvian chefs began to incorporate these traditional ingredients (e.g., ginger, soy sauce, scallions, etc.) and cooking techniques into their repertoire [1]. After learning about the blending of the two cultures, I wanted to try the: * Lomo saltado ($19.00) The dish "lomo saltado" translates to "stir-fried beef," reflecting a clear Chinese influence. The order comes with a choice of two sauces. As it was my first time at Mr Pollo, I asked the worker which sauces were the most popular (apparently, the ají and chimichurri). The ají was pale green, creamy, and, because it was made with ají peppers, a bit spicy [2] while the chimichurri seemed to consist of just parsley and oil. The lomo saltado consisted of a generous mix of red onions, large tomato wedges, soft french fries with a slight bite, and beef so tender that I didn't need to use my knife once while eating. Both sauces paired nicely with the meat. Carb lovers will appreciate this order since it also includes a mound of rice that was savory and garlicky, so a word of caution if you have a date or important meeting later. Overall, everything tasted great. As it was my first time trying Peruvian food, I can't say how it compares to the other great Peruvian restaurants. However, I can say that the menu is more affordable than nearby locations, and my lomo saltado was a huge portion that could easily be split among a larger party if you wanted to sample more dishes. Next time, in honor of the restaurant's name, I'll order a rotisserie chicken dish to try since it appears to be a popular choice. 【Service】 At the front, there is a sign telling customers to order and pay at the counter before sitting. After ordering and paying, I was handed a table number, and I was able to choose my own seat. The staff was friendly. One employee asked if I wanted water after I sat down. Service was fast, and somebody brought my food to my table in less than 10 minutes. Once you're done eating, you just leave, and the employees will bus the table. 【Parking】 The restaurant is located in a smallish strip mall, so the parking lot is also tiny. Fav Peruvian in the area. I used to go here for pick up very often when I used to live down the street but now I'm further and I only get it when I come by the area to visit family or friends. I still love it, quality still good but they are so cheap with their sauces now. Back then we used to be able to pour how much chimichurri and other green sauce we wanted but I'm sure all the cheap people who over compensated for that and plus the economy, so I get it. I was annoyed though, because I called on the phone to place two orders and asked for both green sauces. I only got the cilantro one no chimichurri. Ugh. I said both. I am 100% a sauce person so I don't enjoy my food as much when I don't get all the right sauces. It's just me...it's the way I grew up and what I'm used to. So yeah next time I need to check my to go bag to make sure everything I requested is there. I love the Tallarines Verdes con Bistec (Green pasta w/steak) and we always get the popular dish Lomo saltado. Last visit I ordered the chicken fried rice and I'm so surprised to say it was so good! Not dry at all as I expected. Chicken tender as well. They do move fast here though and they are nice.

Since 2006 eating at Mr Pollo has been one of my family's favorite places. I remember the couple working hard, always friendly, later their son. Today was a terrible experience ordered the half chicken combo with rice and mash potatoes. The chicken was burnt and tasted like it had been stored in the fridge. I called the cashier in charge and told her that chicken was black and tasted different, asking if it could be replaced. With bad attitude, she exchanged one piece almost throwing the plate. Please to the owners take care the quality of the food. My $20.68 bill was thrown in the trash.

Delicious ! I don't remember what's the name of the dish I got but it's the green spaghetti with either choice of chicken or beef. I really liked how it was saucy and they offer 2 other sauces on the side. I called in so when I got there I barely waited. Can't wait to come again

Mr. Pollo -- I've become dangerously addicted to their Lomo Saltado and chimichurri. The last time I had Mr. Pollo, before recently, was around 6-7 years ago and that was only because I moved out of West Covina. I had it a few weeks ago again due to my cousin recently moving nearby, and, my goodness, it is still as delicious as before. My only complaint about the Lomo Saltado is that there wasn't enough. I've tried to recreate the chimichurri and have not been successful at it. I usually do take out and they're super fast getting the order ready, even when it's a big one. They're also super friendly and offered help to take my big order to my car. It's easy to miss it since it's a smaller, hole-in-the-wall restaurant. It reminds me of the smaller mom and pop restaurants in Venezuela. read more

I hope your employee brought it up to your attention. Your Lomo saltado keeps getting saltier and saltier every time I order. I can't even enjoy your sauces with my meal because all you taste is the salt! I hope you read this and stop over salting your food. Otherwise customers will not recommend or return to Mr Pollo restaurant. Your menu is not cheap I hope you consider making changes. It was a waste of money. read more

We ordered two lomo saltados ($17.49 each) for pick-up. We called in our order and it was ready in 15 minutes. The parking lot isn't too big but there was several open spaces to park in front of Mr. Pollo. Each order comes with two sauce cups, so we got 2 green sauces and 2 red sauces. The rice was garlic infused, so that in itself was already delicious. Meat in the lomo saltado was tender. We weren't sure until we went to pick up our order and saw that they use actual plates and not disposable items for those dining in. Our next trip will be to dine indoors. read more

Small portions, but good taste. Prices are expensive for the snack amount of beef they provide in their Lomo saltado, it's sometimes mostly all fries unfortunately. They're closed on Mondays- not good. They need more help, it always takes a long time. Not good for people who are on their 30-1hr lunch break. Ambiance is always crowded. They put the tables way too close to each other. You can barely walk in there. read more

What a gem! I'm a fan of Peruvian food and if you second that emotion, you will love this place too! If you never tried Peruvian food, get out from your invisible cave and live a lil. Fried rice - very rice and tasty, pick your protein. Grilled chicken over the green noodles - You wont regret it! Rotisserie chicken - Very flavorful Eat in or take out! Small place in a plaza, but the attention to detail in the food is on point. Their Lomo Saltado is the best seller and most flavorful. The Pollo Saltado is super good too. I usually get them both. I add the famous green noodles for the complete set for 5 of us. The 2 green sauces brings out the flavor in all the dishes. Every time we come to West Covina, we stop by here. read more

My sister and I happen upon this hole in the wall joint. We ordered the following: -1/2 chicken + 2 medium sides ($11.69): rice and beans for us -lomo saltado ($13.39): beef sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and French fries Hands down one of the best rotisserie chicken situations I have had in a long, long time - the chicken was tender and the skin had a nice crisp on the outside. Paired together with the oily fried onion dipping sauce, each bite was flavorful and delicious. I prefer pollo saltado, but because we already had a chicken entree, we opted for the lomo saltado. It had a good blend of flavors and was even better with the spicy green sauce. I appreciated the robust tomato, onion, French fry complement - good ratio of meat to veggies. This Peruvian take on a very simple dish is something worth checking out if you happen to be in the area. Tip: You can purchase extra sauces for an additional $.50 each. read more

This place is a 100000/100000! Probably the best Peruvian restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley Area. There are known for their rotisserie chicken, make sure to order it early because they do run out and do expect a wait time. especially on the weekends. The place is always crackin. Since it's known for their rotisserie chicken, it always a must to order. We usually order the half chicken, and it comes with their green sauce and 2 sides, with rice or beans or french fries. I usually get it with the french fries! Chicken is always so moist and. tender. You can literally watch them making the chicken on the spot! Fresh for sure. Lomo Saltado and the tallarin de verde are the other 2 popular items we ordered. Lomo Saltado definitely hit the spot everytime. The combination are so great, beef, fries and onion. drenched with the delicious sauce. Extra rice please! The tallarin is geat! you can get it with beef or chicken but i usually just get it plain since the other 2 dish already has plenty of meat. tastes great and very flavorful. I will always come back for sure rotisserie chicken and prices are fair! read more

Best Lomo saltado I've ever had! I have been going to this place for years and just recently returned since 2020. Worried about portions and loss of quality and taste, I was not disappointed. This place has not changed a bit, other than price increase but thats the new norm, the portions remain huge and flavors are phenomenal. Highly recommended. read more

Wanted to get the Pollo Saltado at misky misky, but they have been closed both times I went there. Heard from a coworker that this place is the same owner, so decided to give it a shot. Called at 1:00 to place an order and they said it would be about an hour. When we got there, they were really busy, but our food was ready. Place looked clean and everyone followed the safety procedures. Haven't had pollo saltado in a long time and it hit the spot. Don't know how authentic it is or how it is compared to other Peruvian places, but all I know is that it was delicious. Mix everything together and every bite is tasty. Ask for the green sauce, but be careful as it has a little kick to it. Decent price for the amount of food you get. I'm able to eat a lot and I almost couldn't finish it. If misky misky is closed and you're craving some Peruvian, hit this place up. Just make sure you call way ahead of time. read more

We normally order chaufa de pollo, lomo saltado, tallarin verde, tallarin de pollo, and LOVE their Peruvian plain white rice. Today we had friends over, I decided to make salad, order their rotisserie chicken, and rice, some wine , perfect meal.... Wrong !!! Never have I ever had their rotisserie chicken, but since we love all their other plates, we figured what can go wrong .... Wrong, wrong, wrong... The chicken was so dry, I was so embarrassed with my guess, because kept telling them if they ever want quick Peruvian food, this is the place. I would have rather ordered Juan pollo or pollo loco. Or even the spicy chicken from Los Pollos del Pueblo. I love the owners they are so sweet, same owners from Misky Misky in WC, but so disappointed with their very dry chicken. read more

Hidden spot in Azusa. Came here with my parents and we finished up both plates - each serving is huge and can definitely be shared between 2 people. I got the lomo saltado and it was pretty delicious. My favorite Peruvian place is still El Pollo Inka, which was my point of comparison. The beef was a little tough and the green sauce wasn't as flavorful, but everything else was excellent. We also got plantains to share and those were perfectly done. read more

First time trying Peruvian food and it was amazing service was courteous and fast the aguas frescas are a must here forgot the name of the 2 options they have but they let you sample them to see if you like it first which helps if you don't want to gamble on liking a drink or not food is fresh and flavorful only "con" I can think of would be that the inside is outdated and the price for the lomo saltado after taxes is like $20 which seems pretty hefty when the plate is mostly rice and fries but the food is delicious. read more

They're now doing take out only but the food is prepared fast and just tell them how much sauce you need and they'll have everything ready to go for pick up. Fast, fresh, and so so delicious!! Food - 5 stars, the chicken, beans, and salad was so good. I had an average experience my very first visit but I'm glad my craving for their bomb fried plantains brought me back here because this second time around was amazing and definitely made up for the first! The first time we ordered the famous half chicken with beans and rice and were disappointed with how dry and cold it was. It was as if it was a chicken they cut and put back in a warmer to be served again. This second time around, maybe I came on a better day because the restaurant was packed inside, or I got lucky and got the fresh half of the chicken rather than the one saved in a warmer because this half chicken was hot and juicy and the skin was crispy and flavorful. Both visits were around early dinner on a weekday as well. The food was still delicious even having eaten it 20 min later due to having done take out since seating is limited inside and it was still somehow piping hot! The rice is delicious with garlic flavors, fluffy and flavorful. The beans on the other hand were average and tastes like your regular canned pinto beans. The must get is their fried plantains!! If I had to pick one thing I would get these. Dipped in their delicious chimichurri or green sauce or on their own, these things are addicting. This is not on the menu for some reason but this "not so secret" item comes in 4 or 8 count. Better get the 8 count or you'll be kicking yourself later! We also got the spaghetti tallerin (green spaghetti) with the flank steak and it's the absolute best if you pour more chimichurri all over it. Without it, it is still good but to me it felt like it was missing an herby garlicky dimension of flavor. I expected a garlicky pesto like sauce but it is a more subtle mild green sauce as if made with blended spinach and herbs. Pasta was al dente and steak was tender. Lastly, on our first visit we ordered the famous lomos saltado. It was delicious and the fries weren't too soggy in the flavorful sauce and the beef was tender. However I think due to personal preference this was not my favorite dish out of the bunch but definitely an iconic dish you must try if it's your first time eating Peruvian food. Overall, I highly recommend trying this place out. Would love to go more often if it was closer but for now, the 20+ min drive is worth the occasional splurge! read more

I have this place bookmarked for a while and finally got a chance to try it. (BUT) first of all, I hope they can upload an updated menu on Yelp. The price increased and some of the items were changed. I ordered a quarter chicken combo and a Lomo saltado. They both were decent, I won't complain. I like the chicken more than the lomo saltado. chicken was tender and well cook. It's not bad to try it. I think I will come back. read more

We wanted to try something new. Looked up most reviewed, and this place had a little over 4 stars with lots of reviews. Unfortunately it will be our last time eating here. Very disappointed with the quality of the food for the price. Meat was over cooked (what little was in our dishes), too much salt and the Aji was watered down. read more

Mr. Pollo is a popular Peruvian restaurant I had the chance to order takeout from. I had their popular lomo saltado, which is a Peruvian stirfry dish consisting of lean beef sauteed with onions, tomatoes and french fries with a side of white rice. This was my first time trying Peruvian food and my experience was pretty good. The flavors meshed well together and the extra side sauces gave it extra spice as well. One thing I will note is that it took me a while to get used to the texture of French fries with all the other ingredients. Try it out whenever you can! I recommend! read more

I'll start off saying my wife and I never got a chance to eat here or get food to go . We tried ordering their 5 chicken meal over the phone but no one ever picked up . When we arrived we were told they could not sell us the food because it was too much food . My wife and I both thought , fine . She'll order 2 chickens and I will buy 2 chickens . We were still told no that if we wanted that order we could come back at 8:00 . They clearly had enough food . What restaurant tells people that they need to save food for other people . I don't believe it was a huge amount of food . I don't believe what was said or how it was handled was right . They need to work on their customer service . I've been coming here for years, my go-to is the lomo saltado. The price rose to $12.39 now, same great taste though. Tender beef or chicken with sliced red onions, tomatoes, french fries and rice, nice portion too. A bit salty since it's has soy sauce but the chimichurri sauce goes well with it. Seating can get filled quickly, they do take order over the phone. They take card, no restroom, and the staff is nice. read more

I like that u can place phone orders and pick it up due to how busy it gets on weekends. The customer service is really attentive, i like that! The food was very flavorful and a big portion. Inside it's very small and compact ur basically rubbing elbows with your peers. But that's what makes it feel authentic and home cooked tbh. The only thing for me is i found it a little pricey but i guess if u eat less it's okay because u will have left overs. read more

Isn't it the law that a restaurant must display their health rating in the window, cause it wasn't displayed anywhere to be seen. So first they brought out a large jug of water with some fruit slices and mint in it. Would've been nice if the water wasn't room temperature. Is the ice machine not working? Then came the best part of the entire meal - my hazelnut latte. The coffee was good and the cup is gigantic. My teen had the french toast, eggs (scrambled), and bacon plate. The one slice of french toast was okay but nothing special. The eggs were bland and lacking any seasoning including salt and pepper. The bacon, of which I got a side for myself, too, was absolutely disgusting. At first I thought the bacon had been cooked possibly on a dirty grill in old grease or right after something else had been cooked, as it had a horrendous aftertaste like rotten meat and sweaty gym socks. They made a new plate but this one was raw, despite being ordered well done and crispy. Raw. And it absolutely stunk. That was when I came to think it might be uncured pork belly like you get a Korean KBBQ and not bacon at all. Luckily they cancelled the order. I also got a side of the breakfast (rosemary) potatoes, which I also ordered crispy and well done but arrived as a scoop of mush. They tasted okay but I saw crispy potatoes at numerous other tables. Don't know why they couldn't cook as ordered. I also had the dutch baby. I'm sorry but this is a dessert bread pudding and not a real dutch baby pancake. The inside should be airy and fluffy, not sopping wet. I'm not sure if the inside was undercooked and possibly raw dough or if they make it with some sweetened cream inside. It was not good, and it was way too sweet. Instant diabetes sweet. I will never go back. I strongly recommend that all people stay as far away as possible. The service was good - friendly and attentive, but what good is that when the food is so awful? I also had severe stabbing pains in my stomach for a couple hours after getting home. Avoid at all costs!

But why am I writing about food from a restaurant that has already closed? Let's begin the story. It was January 2023 when I walked into the restaurant. A Messi poster in WPAP (Wedha's Pop Art Portrait) style was hanging on the wall, and a FIFA World Cup Trophy sat on the counter. It was less than a month after Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with Messi as the team leader. They were also selling thermos flasks and phone cases painted with the Argentina football team. I had known this was an Argentine restaurant for a long time, dating back to 2016. I used to live in Glendora Village, just a ten-minute walk to the restaurant by crossing the railway. I didn't know the word "empanadas" before I came to Rika's, even though I had eaten similar food before. In China, there is Uyghur/Muslim food called "baked dumplings," stuffed with seasoned minced lamb, which are almost the same as empanadas. Compared with deep-fried empanadas, Rika's baked version was less oily, with more wheat flour aroma. Their empanada wrap also had a hint of sweetness, which made it very special. The first time I walked past the restaurant, on a random afternoon in 2016, I ordered four different empanadas to take away. At that time, they were $2.35 each. The restaurant was so kind that they wrote the flavor names on the food box. I still remember the experience-those empanadas were hot, aromatic, cheesy, and well-balanced. I was too full to have dinner that night. Later, I brought my family and friends to dine there. Not only were the empanadas delicious, but the deep-dish pizza, salads, and other dishes were also excellent. Let's talk about the empanadas. They had 16 different fillings, from simple ones like beef, sweet beef, spicy beef, ham & cheese, blue cheese, and onion & cheese, to more unique ones. What was interesting was that each filling had its own shape. Regular beef was half-round, sweet beef had both corners folded up, spicy beef had only the left corner folded up, and so on. FATAY (Arabian empanadas) were triangular, while bacon & prunes were square. I tried almost all the different fillings, and they were all good--never disappointing. Even after I moved to Pasadena, I still went back there. Then COVID-19 came. The restaurant closed for a short while, then reopened for takeout only, no dine-in. By June 2022, the price had risen to $2.85 each. By January 2023, it was $3.10 each. By June 2025, they closed permanently. I miss Rika's empanadas. I hope the chef is still baking them somewhere else. If so, please let me know.

The sandwich was both huge and delicious. - A Four seasons pizza; This pizza was divided into four quarters with four different toppings ; the first quater was Ham & pineapple, the second quarter was pepperoni, the last two quarters are ham & red bell peppers then tomato garlic and mushrooms with green olives. The toppings were generous and very flavorful, and the crust enhanced the toppings. This Four Seasons Pizza was perfect and convenient. Everyone in my family got what they wanted.Finally, I got nutella Sweet crepe (5/5) for dessert. It had nice texture and the chocolate hazelnut was rich and creamy. The sushi tastes fresh, and one thing I appreciate is the rolls are always made well, nothing falling apart halfway through eating, which honestly says a lot about consistency. My kids were big fans of the tonkatsu ramen and finished it without complaints (which parents know is its own review category). The happy hour prices are also worth mentioning because you can order a decent amount without feeling guilty afterward. The biggest standout for us was our server, Bang. Friendly, attentive, and especially patient with my kids' food preferences. He was accommodating when we asked to modify dishes and gave recommendations. Service like that makes a restaurant memorable. This has become an easy choice when we want sushi in the area, especially for family dinners.

We placed the phone order for (1) roll and (2) macron ice cream things. (Which are already made and sitting in a freezer) We were told 25 minutes and so we waited about 20 minutes before I walked in to pick up my (1) roll, the only thing that required someone to make it. The front reception area was chaos with large parties waiting to be seated and scattered smaller groups of 3 or 4. I bypassed all that to get to the front and instead of a person is a tablet. All the human workers were scrambling around which told me they were "behind". I asked a worker about my phone order and she told me five minutes and took my payment. 35 minutes later I'm still waiting among the crowd who are also waiting to be seated. Workers are scrambling around like they just got trained that day. Confused looks and panic ruled the evening. Workers continued to jog past me to handing out drinks and trays of items and never checking back in with the small crowd. Confusion over clarity remained the theme as large parties asked why they haven't been seated yet. Small parties asked when they would be seated and I waited for (1) roll. A purely bad experience from start to finish from a place I've enjoyed in the past. The moral of the story is to expect the unexpected. Even though I've had pleasant experiences in the past here, I have to report the details of this visit based on its own merits and not prior visits. I ended up with my roll and it seemed like it was sitting back there somewhere ignored, like the groups waiting to be seated. It seemed not so fresh and like it was made 25 minutes earlier.

We were seated in a cozy booth and our server took our drink orders. Pop music from the 90s/2000s blasted from the speakers but it created a fun ambiance! We ordered hot sake, Sapporo beer, chicken karaage, gyoza, yellowtail carpaccio, a chicken teriyaki bento box, tonkatsu ramen, and two different rolls (Baja and Bomb Diggity). Everything came out paced well and our server was awesome. We never went without and we were checked on plenty of times. Food was fantastic - the yellowtail tasted so fresh and the sushi rolls were "bomb diggity"!! Everyone enjoyed their meals and I wouldn't hesitate to return to try different items from their menu. We ordered both the wagyu donburi and wagyu steak bites, and the meat was rich, tender, and literally melted in my mouth. The wagyu paired really well with the rice and each bite felt super indulgent. The Wagyu Sunshine was a nice contrast because the mango salsa added a refreshing citrusy brightness that helped balance the richness. We also ordered the Ginza sushi platter, which was beautifully presented with each nigiri coming on its own plate. The fish tasted fresh and buttery and made for a fun presentation. The chicken katsu was another solid dish -- crispy on the outside while still juicy inside. Also worth mentioning: they have a sushi roll deal where the second roll is 50% off, along with beer and sake specials which make it even better for groups. Overall, a great spot if you're craving sushi, wagyu, and izakaya-style food with plenty of options.

Fantastic hand pulled noodles with great texture, delicious soup and their chili is actually spicy, numbing and very flavorful. They are heavy handed with the spice, I'd say their medium is a typical extra spicy. I typically order extra spicy elsewhere but was trying to cut down on the oil a bit so got medium here and was pleasantly surprised that the level of spice was just right for me. The lamb Rou Jia Mou was really filling. I liked the quantity, not overtly big, not too greasy, and had just the right amount of protein to keep the dish an appetizer, as you await the main course. My former colleague Hand Pulled Noodle Master chef Shuai used to head the reknown LanZhou Noodles place in Gaithersburg Maryland serving up all those Ambassadors, Lobbyists, DC Politicians, and when we were in Phoenix Arizona, along with Pastry / Flour Dim Sum Master Chef Sister Ying, we concocted probably the best Xiao Long Bao / Rou Jia Mou and LanZhou Hand Pulled Noodles to ever grace the lands of Arizona and in my opinion, was far superior than any other place in Los Angeles. But again that's just me. I'm biased and I've been blessed to sit down, and have worked with some of the best small kitchen crews and experience great staff meals. And this leads to me to my conclusion: Yes, I'm putting this restaurant officially on my #2 for Chinese Noodle Soups in LA. This place will from now on be in my casual rotation. This spot serves delicious Peruvian dishes with truly unique flavors--something you don't come across often in the SGV. Places like this feel like hidden gems you have to seek out. I ordered takeout for this visit, so I can only imagine the food would taste even better fresh in-house. When you walk in, there are a few tables with diners enjoying their meals and a counter for ordering. They also offer a selection of unique Peruvian desserts and drinks, which I'm saving for my next visit. Lomo Saltado - Prepared perfectly with well-balanced spices and just the right hint of soy sauce. The stir-fried fries, onions, and tomatoes were spot on. The beef seemed to be sliced chuck--chewy in a satisfying way, rather than overly tenderized like in some Chinese preparations. Unfortunately, the rice was a letdown: it was hard, carried a garlicky or seasoned aroma, and was simply undercooked to the point of being inedible. I'm not sure if that's their usual style or just a one-off mistake. That said, the dish as a whole was still enjoyable, especially with the flavorful green aji sauce, which added just the right amount of heat without overpowering. Tallarin Verde con Pechuga de Pollo - My first time trying this dish, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's essentially pasta coated in a creamy green sauce--similar to the aji sauce but richer, with hints of butter. The chicken breast was perfectly grilled on the stovetop, and the chimichurri was a fantastic touch. A unique dish I'd definitely order again. Overall, a great experience. The total came out to under $35 for both dishes, and it felt well worth it. Nestled in an unassuming hole-in-the-wall, Mr. Pollo might not catch your eye at first glance, but the chicken they serve is a hidden gem. I opted for a half chicken, which was served alongside two sides: white rice and beans. To accompany the meal, they also provide two types of salsa. The chicken, while not as juicy as I'd hoped, had a delightful spicy kick to it. To enhance its flavor, I added their spicy avocado sauce and a mouthwatering olive oil and cilantro mix. These condiments truly elevated the chicken's taste. The avocado sauce, with its heat, was a standout. The sides were decent, with plain white rice and beans that carried a familiar, comforting flavor and texture. While I have a preference for Juan Pollo due to their crispy-skinned, juicy chicken, I must say that Mr. Pollo's Rotisserie chicken boasts a distinct style that sets them apart. Today my experience at Mr. Pollo was not good. First, I ordered a large Chicha Morada drink. I noticed they we're running Low on the drink but I thought they were going to make more. No, when my food was ready, they told me, we're sorry but we're waiting for the Chicha Morada drink. It's going to take longer. We didn't see , we were out of it. Okay, first of all, if you noticed , you're running out of something, they should start preparing more. I had to wait in addition, 15 minutes for the drink. Second, I get home and realized that l that the Pollo Saltado that I ordered only had like 5 pieces of chicken and the rest were potatoes. I should have just ordered a Saltado de Papa in that case. Third, the chicken breast that I also ordered was not cooked well. What disappointments me more is that we trust in them that we are going to receive what we are paying for. My order was to go so this makes me think that they do this to many customers as they might think that we're not going to notice it and if we do, we're probably not going back to tell them. We have been customers of this restaurant for many years but unfortunately now they are like many other restaurants, once they have a good business they don't care about the quality of their food. read more

I am writing to express my concerns regarding an experience I had at your restaurant on September 25,2024. I ordered the Pollo con Tallarín Verde for pickup and chose to eat at one of your tables since there was a table available. When I received my meal, I noticed that the food was extremely hot, with steam emitting from the plastic container. This raised my concerns about the safety of consuming food served in such hot plastic. Despite my apprehension, I was quite hungry, so I cooled the food down and proceeded to eat. Unfortunately, a few hours later, I experienced a severe headache, nausea, and dizziness. I suspect these symptoms may be related to exposure to the hot plastic container. I have always enjoyed dining at your establishment, but this incident has raised significant concerns about food safety and the materials used for packaging. I've been coming to this restaurant for a few years and it's definitely one of my favorites. The pollo a la brasa, the green sauce, and the lomo saltado are finger-lickin' good; but he rest of their food -not so much. If you'd like to try the other plates, I suggest going to another restaurant. The price value is awesome and very affordable. This place is relatively cheap and their customer service is the best. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The owners work at the restaurant regularly, too. The place is always packed and finding seats can be very hard, especially on weekends! If you go around 12 or anytime before 3, you'll be able to find seats, good parking, and you won't have to wait long for the food. The only negative aspect of this place is their restroom because it's all the way in the back. You have to pass through the kitchen to reach it and you'll come out smelling like food. read more

I recently took my mom to Mr. Pollo in West Covina, and she absolutely loved it! She ordered Combo #1 and couldn't stop raving about how flavorful and perfectly cooked everything was. This spot never disappoints--every time I visit, the food is consistently high quality, fresh, and delicious. Chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned. Among the best tasting chicken I've ever tried. This place is also very generous with their sauces, including a delicious chimichurri, hot sauce, and extremely hot sauce. I personally love mixing a little chimichurri with the red sauce over my chicken. The steak and lomo saltado are a little on the dry side. The lomo sauce is amazing and I think it would go great with a vegetarian dish, if they offered it. The portions are definitely on the small side. I could eat a whole chicken by myself and I don't consider myself a big eater. Be prepared for a long wait. I recommend this place all the times to all my friends and family. I have never had a bad experience with the service or the food. The food is delicious and if you order the chicken combo with fries and salad you definitely get your buck's worth. the green salsa is the best, not only do i use it to eat my chicken but i also like to dip my french fries in it too lol I would recommend everyone try their agua frescas which are agua de maracuya and the chicha one. they are delicious and very flavorful. The onlly bad thing about this place is that it is really small so that is a big issue when it comes to rush hours. read more

I found the food to be stellar. I've been to a few other Peruvian restaurants and this place was near the top. it's a small place so they have a limited menu, but what's on it are the more popular dishes. It's very popular so if you mind the wait come at an odd hour to eat in or take-out as an option. Considering the long line when we were there they were able to get our entrees out rather quick. The prices are fair but the parking is terrible, plan on parking around the corner or across the street. read more

How can you hate on this place!? I've been coming here for a few years already. The prices have gone up but the quality is still the same. If you're looking for a simple straight Peruvian restaurant, this is the place to go. They're known for their rotisserie chickens, lomo saltaldo and their green spaghetti! This isn't a fancy place, but if you want good Peruvian food at an affordable price, this is a great place! The portions are huge! second time I've tried Peruvian food and both times enjoyed it. Peruvian food seems to favor chicken in a lot of their dishes which is fine because I have gout so fits me perfectly. The dinner combos are about $14, I know thats a little steep but keep in mind the portions are fairly big. You also get a variety of sides like steamed veggies and rice. I am from Vegas and overtime I head over to L.A. this is one of the many places I go to. I had some chicken with the green noodles (sorry I forgot what it was called) Anyways, it was all bomb!! Plus, it is pretty cheap. We got two orders of chicken and some of the noodles with beef and it fed four people. All in all, great food and it is very reasonable. Must try!! read more

This place has the BEST food. The only draw back is that it is so busy. Getting a seat can seem difficult, but just wait for them to seat you and it all turns out OK. I saw this place at yelp and decide to check it out and man... its really good.... This little place is packed everytime I go there and food its awesome. It can get bit expansive so I dont eat here very often but this is the place if your looking for some rotisserie chicken and them self service sauce is good too. read more
