Not gonna lie, I know everyone loves this place bc it's an institution. My son and I have always loved their wings. However, yesterday I ordered online and made a quick pregame (LFG Blue!) run for a few dozen wings. Pickup was efficient and easy. When I got home (12m drive) and cracked open the wings to enjoy a few before kickoff, all the wings were soggy. It was such a bummer! They tasted like they had been baked not fried and the coating on the boneless wings was mushy. Even the bone-in wings were a bit soggy and not crispy (like fried). Mr. Spots is an A2 institution. They're great at both wings and cheese steaks, but I think the hot wings especially are the standout menu item. You can't really go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu though (I've been so many times I think I've had pretty much all of it), so really just take your pick. The chicken sandwich is pretty overlooked, I'd say it's just as good if not better than the cheese steak. The shop itself is pretty small, the employees are really nice, and the food comes out fast. Kind of an idyllic local spot in some ways. I went so oftent that got to the point where the employees knew my name back in 2016, and my opinion might be colored by my dozens of repeat visits and nostalgia, but I really like Spots and I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone. There's a not really a better classic wing spot on Central (RIP Wings Over on North), so this is for sure the spot to go if you're craving buffalo wings on campus. read more

I've heard good things about Mr. Spots from friends and was excited to try it for the first time today. The restaurant, located on State Street somewhat near Yost Arena, is quaint and cozy. We ordered takeout and I had a ~$10 10-inch Steak Hoagie Sandwich and ~$6 1/2 Dozen BBQ Boneless Wings. The Steak Hoagie was quite good, especially its meat quality and juiciness, but I was a little disappointed with the wings. The wings were affordable, but the BBQ Wings were drenched in too much sauce, and this is coming from a guy who loves BBQ sauce. I wouldn't mind dropping by Mr. Spots for some comforting Steak Hoagies from time to time, and I would recommend it to anyone in Ann Arbor looking for a new sandwich spot to try out! read more

I went to this sandwich shop after going to gym since my friend recommended it. I got the steak and cheese hoagie which turned out to be really good. My only complaint was that when I added the jalapeño relish, it was a little spicer than I expected but that is more of a personal preference. My old boss recommended we go to Mr. Spots for wings when visiting Ann Arbor. We stopped by for dinner and it wasn't very busy since school is out. We received a warm hello. We ordered 2 dozen buffalo wings, having missed the flavor options, we were able to change an order and get a sauce in the side. The wings were great! The sauces were full of flavor and while they were spicy they didn't over power me off the bat. It's a spice that builds. We did add some suicide sauce to the Garlic Parm for a nice kick. I just had the best cheesesteak I've ever gotten from Mr. Spot's. I've always liked them by was never *WOWED*. Maybe it was the pepper relish that changed that tonight. This was my first time to Mr. Spots and I came because I heard so many good things about the place. I had a 6 inch classic cheese steak sandwich with peppers and mushrooms along with a side of fries (waffle fries). Total came out to be little less than $9. Verdict: The sandwich was great. The bread was soft and enveloped the cheese and meat perfectly. Each bite was worthwhile and I could have eaten more, but I had to save room for the fries. Word of caution: the amount of fries they give you is huge! It is advised that you come with a friend to split a side. I was a little disappointed in the fries b/c it lacked flavor. I like my waffle fries seasoned (like the ones at Carls Jr or Jack in the Box) so these tasted pretty plain to me. And, at 2.99 for a side of fries, I think I'd rather pay another .75 and get another 6 inch cheese steak sandwich. Best cheese fries! Oh my god, just thinking about them makes me want to do naughty things. Mr. Spot's is also good for reasonably priced Philly cheese steaks. If you're from Philly you might not think this place is all that special, but if you're in Ann Arbor then you're most likely from Michigan so who cares what you think? I love those subs. They really know how to make a man feel good and a woman feel guilty. The other great thing about this place is the wings. Arguably the best on campus (although I would check out Buffalo Wild Wings for the best wings) and great on game day. If you're making the historic trek down State St. with the rest of the students to watch the game, stop at Mr. Spot's and get some wings if you have time. Order the "Bucket of 50" for all your friends. It'll be $31 but if you're in a large group it won't be a problem. Or if you don't have time, celebrate your victory there. It'll be packed, but worth it. You're best bet might be to get there early though. Even when it's not game day, this place is great for a late night snack. Folks at South and West Quad know what I mean. But beware when you order those wings. They will smell up the entire dorm with buffalo flavor, and at night you'll piss off your roommate with smelly farts. Oh, and did I mention the cheese frrrrii... Crap! My ACHA hockey team played the University of Michigan at Yost Arena on a Friday night. I called ahead the day before to negotiate a price and to get the large order squared away. The day of the game, I called one more time to make sure everything was set for a 10 pm delivery to the rink and the manager on duty assured me everything was set to go. The game ended and the driver was right outside, actually a few minutes early, ready to take our food to the bus for us. As far as trashy food joints go, I'd say Mr. Spot's is the best one on the block (which is saying a lot, since this particular block has a BTB and Quickie Burger on it). The cheesesteak I got was pretty delicious, waffle fries are great (and you get a ton of them), and from what I hear, the wings are real good too, though I've heard both sides of the "better than b-dubs" argument now. This would probably be a 4-star joint if it weren't so pricy; this food is good but it isn't worth the price. Oh Mr Spots!! How I yearn for thee!! I lived within a block of here for 3 out of 4 years at UM. And the other year, I was only 4 blocks away. I loved Spots. I was there so much that the owner knew me by name. Now, the food wasn't 5-star restaurant quality, but it was poor hungry college kid deliciousness quality for sure! My favorites were the burger, bbq wings, chicken tenders, and chili cheese fries. The burger was perfect for a hangover cure. The chicken tenders could actually fill you up on their own. The bbq wings and chili cheese fries were perfect for a lazy fall Sunday of watching football on the couch. Not to mention pretty damn good cheesesteaks and hoagies! I must mention the best part about the chili cheese fries... Waffle fries and real chili. By real I mean it has real meat and beans and tomatoes and onions and peppers. Not out of a can. I did always find it a bit funny that the cheese for the fries was nacho cheese. But it worked for me. I gobbled it up every single time. My craving hits. I find myself slowly driving the Packard, Hill, State triangle in hopes that a parking spot magically appears. My luck generally holds most times and the sense of victory that arrives from that success only helps to enhance what's about to happen. I don't know that I've ever walked into Mr. Spots when it's packed, but the reception at the counter is always cordial and at least moderately energetic. I only bring this up as too many places these days embrace a lethargic approach to service that finds its way into the food. I've never had a mediocre experience and have always been happy with my order. I've made my way through the Philly Original, Cheese Steak Sandwich, Steak Hoagie, Chicken Philly, and Chicken Hoagie. All of these selections are great and the meats are always adequately juicy but rarely to the point that a hunch is needed to avoid a big mess, though a modified table-support elbow hunch might be prudent once in a while. My only issue with the Philly sandwiches is that they use straight American cheese as opposed to the Whiz. I know this can be a point of contention, but the option to have a Wiz Wit without having to travel would be amazing. My go-to order is the Steak Hoagie plus mushrooms. I know that my desire for a simple wiz wit makes this order sound atrocious because of all of the extras, but there's something about the way that "Mr. Spot's special sauce" blends with the melted provolone and juicy beef and mushrooms juxtaposed with cool crisp lettuce and tomato that makes a perfect meal. read more

It needs that special combination of meat, cheese, onions, and grease. I saw the cheese covered waffle fries for the first time today that my friend ordered and was blown away. I think their Philly Original is probably tied for the best cheesesteak in southeast Michigan (with Joey's). You won't be disappointed. Now all I get is the hot wings and waffle fries with cheese on the side. These are THE best wings I've ever had and I don't think you'll find better. (I've tried the suicide and barbecue sauces, and while both are delicious and I'm sure you'll like, I prefer the hot). Ditto the waffle fries - they are the BEST. Somewhat undervalued in my opinion, as this place looks like it was super popular in the 90s, but never had anyone in it when I used to go there. It might be a bit on the expensive side, compared to other places in the area and when dealing with a college student budget, but it's worth it.
