I do not care for spanish rice, but THEIR spanish rice was sooo good, and I am from the Imperial Valley where Mexican food is not a game....Now for the bad news the parking lot is small and crowded trying to order your food(which we were ordering to-go) was irritating, and I am being nice. There is only 1 entrance!!!!! ONLY 1!!! which is for busser, servers, customers dining and dine out. Since it was the weekend there was plenty of beer drinking which is not the problem there was a group of men drinking and they were loud and obnoxious. The enchiladas are terrible! My coworker and I order from this place 2-3 times a month. The food is OK, not the best but not bad either. If they didn't offer delivery, we probably would not order from here. Anyways, this last order that we placed was a disaster. We ordered two fajita burritos, one steak for him, one veggie for me. When the delivery guy showed up (very nice man), he showed up with only one burrito. Apparently, the lady who took the order did not make it clear that there were two burritos in the order. He was nice enough to go back and get the other at no charge but when he did return with the additional burrito, he brought back a bean and rice burrito, not what we had originally ordered. I've been a long time customer, over 10 years, and the food has always been good. Until now. this has been my favorite place to get Huevos Rancheros, but they changed things, and not for the better. it used to be that you would get sliced potato's, creamy re fried beans, and your two eggs cooked perfectly. Now, the beans are thick and not very good, the potato's are just wrong, I cant even describe them. and it seems to compensate for the un appetizing change, they started putting meat under the eggs. I have had the "new" version a couple of times now, like I said, LONG time customer, but that's it. its 2 stars and not 1, out of loyalty. I doubt they will go back to the old recipe. On Sunday December 2, 2018, we had a birthday party for my 3 year old granddaughter. We purchased beans, rice and 3 kinds of meat. The following day, 10 of the 15 guests became ill with food poisoning. Some were throwing up and had fevers however everyone had diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Some were kids. Many of the guests are still sick 4 days later. My daughter called Mr. Taco which they advised her they weren't going to do anything for her because they do not know what she did to the food after she took it from the business. What? Yes, Mr. Taco we poisoned our family and friends . They finally offered to give her 1/2 her money back, gee thanks! Went with my dad a few times and it all went great. Went back by myself... and spent the night in the hospital. The food is really good. The chilequiles are awesome and so is the machaca but, man... it really isn't worth risking my health. The last time I went here was a few years ago and it was definitely my last. I had a machaca burrito for lunch from here and within the hour my stomach started feeling queasy. This queasy feeling lasted the rest of the day. I couldn't eat dinner because I still didn't feel well. I went to bed early just so I would stop feeling awful. Around midnight, I was awakened by what at the time felt like my death approaching! Stabbing pains jabbed at my abdomen. I was dizzy yet somehow found the strength to make it to the restroom. I threw up all I had in me over the following hour and that is the last thing I remembered. I woke back up at about 3am. I found myself on the bathroom floor, nude, in a puddle of water. It appeared as though I had attempted to take a shower because my hair was wet too. I heard my dad calling me and asking if I was OK, then I passed out again. Next thing I remember is being taken to the hospital. They put me out completely with morphine. When I woke up the Dr. said I had got salmonella food poisoning from what I had eaten that day. I spent the next week still pretty sick. I haven't been back since. read more

So I'm starving. And I know local law enforcement generally knows where good grub is. On the way out of bankruptcy court in downtown Riverside, I ask a federal marshal if he's ever been to Mr. Taco. And he gets a huge grin on his face. And I know I've hit the jackpot. Slow down as you approach this place, as it appears to be within a scrap yard. I had to turn around to get back to it. Formal attire is NOT to be worn here. So I toss of my jacket and tie, loosen my shirt, rub dirt all over my face and clothes, take off one shoe, rip a hole in my pants, and amble into Mr. Taco. This place is aweeesome. As I walk in, I notice the place is mostly covered patio with a fairly large TV outside. The couple sitting outside had huge beers. This trip is off to a good start. I walk in. On my right is a toothless drunk apparent regular ranting about The Man, or taxes, or some such. On my left is a cute friendly waitress/cashier delivering a GIGANTIC Corona to another apparent regular (this one was toothful and not drunk). I check out the menu -- gotta go with the three enchilada lunch special for...$6.50? The waitress/cashier rings me up and gives me two bowls. One for self-serve chips and one for self-serve salsa bar. The salsa were SO GOOD. At least five kinds, plus pickled spicy carrots/onions/jalapenos. My lunch special comes in a to go tin. It's HUGE. Rice, beans, a big pile of lettuce/salad and three enchiladas. Shrimp, chicken and shredded beef. They were all fantastic. The sauces accompanying each were delicious, and the shrimp weren't overcooked (hallelujah!). Even my fiance the shrimp snob enjoyed what I brought home. It ended up lasting me like three meals. And they were even good enough to eat cold. I was SO tempted to get a "Mr. Beer" and talk to the regulars. I swear some of them live here. Can't blame them. In addition to the patio TV, they had TVs inside, I think with Dish. Anyway, I was able to catch up on my Sportscenter, which I was not expecting. Before I left, I also got an ENORMOUS fruit salad. It was like $7 and had to be four pounds of all different kinds of fruit, and all of it ripe and tasty. I don't even know how they got it all into the to go clamshell container. Magic, I assume. They also separately packed up raisins, oatmeal and shredded coconut. This was easily enough fruit for 8 people. Super friendly service, delicious authentic (I think?) food and an amazing value. I gave this place 3 chances to redeem itself. My first experience was a very pleasing one. Their food was pretty satisfactory.They were about to get a 3 or 4 star rating from me. Until...... Everything went downhill, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th visits grew progressively worse. I ordered their tacos, nachos, burritos, all with different types of meat. A pretty wide range of menu items in the 3 additional visits. The meat it what really caused my change of heart in this place. Every bite i took, it seemed like salt was being mysteriously added to my food. Might I add that I did not add any additional salt. Each bite required water. The more I ate, the more water I required. It felt as if my tongue was being prepared for becoming jerky. My suggestion, bring a 5 gallon water jug with you if you plan to come here.
