Ok, I'm being a little generous ! It's really 3++ stars but since FL doesn't seem to have any good Mexican restaurants it's almost a 5 in FL. My best description is that the quality of the food is really good but the flavor of the food (really important in Mex food) is a bit bland. Everything I had was both good and just ok at the same time. Chips and salsa ... Really liked the salsa but wished that the chips came out warm. I ordered the chicken enchiladas Verde (green) as well as one each of the ground beef and shredded beef tacos. All the items were similar. Properly cooked, very good quality but definitely bland. I love salsa Verde and it usually has somewhat of a bite (spicy) but their Verde is extremely mild. The ground beef taco just tasted like ground hamburger. No seasoning or spice. They mistakenly gave me a shredded chicken taco instead of the shredded beef (waitress kindly offered to get me the correct item but I was filling up and didn't need more food). Like the enchilada, the shredded chicken taco was very well made but just tasted like chicken. They had a good beer selection and I haven't tried the margaritas yet. I will definitely give it another try and next time I will ask what items are popular or house specialties. read more

January 21, 2018. My husband recommended that we have lunch at Mr tequila Mexican restaurant. He's been there before. Overall, it was a good choice. Our server Madelyn did pretty good. She was nice and attentive. She started us off with salsa and chips. It was so good, we asked for 2nd's. My lemonade drink somehow got contaminated with food debris. The lemonade was definitely not homemade, it tasted like it was purchased from the .99cent store. Talk about unnaturally flavored & disgusting. Just horrible. But I'll digress. I changed my drink to sprite. As I wanted to obey my thirst. For my main dish- I ordered the California burrito (chicken and beef) & my husband ordered a combination dish - burrito, quesadilla, and a hard taco. And let me tell you, the food portions were very generous. Price is pretty good too. I enjoyed a quarter of my dish(The rest went home with me). My husband said his dish lacked flavor. He had to use the salsa sauce(from the appetizer) to add some flavor to hi dish. The atmosphere is nice. Mexican/Spanish music played in the background. Nice customer and culturally designed chairs, tables, and wall art. This was my 1st time here and it won't be my last. See my pictures for examples of the food portions. On April 6th I came in to have dinner. Service was good. But when I paid bill and received it. I left and didn't realize I was not given my credit card back until two days later. On April 8th I called to see if my credit card was there. The man who answered the phone asked what booth I was sitting at I tried to tell him that it happened two days ago. He said that I should have called the day it happened. I have been going there every Tuesday. Now I will not and I even had the server's name but he hung up on me. I called today April 8th to ask for manager he said she wasn't in. I told him will she be in by 2:30pm and he replied maybe. Then we ended the call and I told him I will call back tomorrow. I will never go back to a restaurant that will not listen to a customer concern and to be rude as to hang up on the call. read more

Is it a sign when the Manager walks around on his cell phone, seating and serving people? The food was pretty quick and hot, but that's the only positive thing I can say about it. The food was extremely bland. From the fajitas (Shrimp, Steak, and Chicken), Beef Nachos to the Salsa and Salsa Verde, it tasted like they did not use any seasoning. So, we were in town and I wanted to take my husband to a good Mexican restaurant. I picked Mr. Tequila, I have been there before and was ready to enjoy a good restaurant. We ordered cheese queso fundido. It was supposed to have pico de Gallo ( so the menu said ). We get it and all that is in it is cheese and meat. My husband called the waiter over, the waiter that it only comes with meat in it. "No", we said and showed him the menu. He said that there was a misprint on the menu but he would bring a dish of pico for us ( great ). Then the waiter took our order. My husband ordered a fried chimichanga. Food was brought, looked good but as my husband started eating he realized that the chimichanga was not fried at all. When the waiter came past my husband politely told the food was great but it wasn't fried as he requested . The waiter apologized but made no attempt to correct the problem. My husband decided not to cause fuss so he just continued eating his plate. Toward the very end of his meal he felt something plastic in his mouth. Pulled it out and found it to be a plastic tie. When we finally called the waiter over to the table all he could do was apologize. Well ,we waited for the bill, thinking that at the very least he would get his meal taken care of by the manager. Not manager came. Soon the waiter came with our bill. My husband looked at it and asked the waiter if he had talked to the manager about the plastic and the waiter replied yes but he was told to go ahead and charge us for the meal. My husband went to the manager who basically called my husband a liar, told him there was not way the plastic could have been in the food and that he would take only $3.00 off his meal. My husband was told to calm down . We spent $72 For our meal and drinks. To be called a liar is an insult, we were not looking for the whole dinner to be comped but when an Entree has foreign matter in it, the right thing to do is to at least is not to charge the customer for it. I've been craving great Mexican food for some time, so I had high hopes going in. The salsa was decent and the chips were warm, so off to an ok start. Our server and other employees who walked by were nice. The decor was pleasant and I actually loved the beautiful detail on the chairs, etc. The food, however, was not impressive. My husband and I both ordered the Enchiladas Yolanda and did not enjoy them. The sauce on them was bitter, giving the dish an overall unpleasant taste. Refried beans were okay but rice was dry. From start to end was a little up and down. Once I decided I wanted to eat at Mr. Tequila's, I originally wanted to do a carry out service and I am extremely thankful I didn't do that. GrubHub is the third party service they use, but GrubHub's menu doesn't offer everything that's on the restaurants menu. That's ok, I'll call ahead and pick it up myself. When I place my order, I order a few entrees and then mine. I asked for all the toppings that were supposed to come on top of my dinner on the side. The hostess or whoever answered the phone didn't understand the concept of putting the toppings on the side and had to ask for help. That is ok, but I don't need to hear the entire conversation. Put me on hold or mute. She gets it figured out and tells me my total. I ask for her to repeat my order back to me. All was right and well, even my toppings were on the side. When I arrive at the restaurant to pick up my order, GrubHub is there picking up another order. Cool. I pay for my food and the hostess says my food is not ready. She give the food that is bagged up to the GrubHub driver and says she is good to go. Meanwhile my food comes out and because of the original issue with the toppings on the side I wanted to make sure it was right. I quickly realize that the food given to me was not mine. It even had a ticket with someone else's name on it. I didn't even have to open the food boxes. I tell the hostess and she has the GrubHub driver stop and come back in to unload and reload the correct food. I then take a look inside the "new" bag and find that the entree I ordered with all the toppings on the side had sauce on top. That wasn't ok with me because I was driving and didn't want my food to get soggy. When telling the hostess, she then opened and checked the food more than once and said "what's missing?" Nothing was missing it was just incorrect. Then another person comes over to help and opens the food boxes and touches everything. They then ask "what is missing?" This is when I say that nothing is missing but the food on this one entree is incorrect. I asked for everything on the side and I didn't get that. As for the rest of the food, I don't feel comfortable eating it anymore because it has been handled by so many people. I would like it remade. They offered to pay for the mistake of the one entree but as long as they remade it correctly, I didn't want them paying anything. The food comes out quite quickly which I was pleased to see. I check the boxes and the food looks correct so I leave with my food and thank them for their promptness and kindness in fixing the mistake. When I get home my group eats their food. The burrito delux was fabulous, no complaints. The carnitas street tacos were well flavored with a good portion of meat. I just wish there were some more onions and cilantro on top. As for my entree, the chimichanga with the toppings on the side, the chimi itself was different than I'm used to, but still very good in flavor. The rice and beans weren't my favorite. The rice tasted like white rice and plastic, and the beans tasted like they were burned. I understand that all Mexican food places are different in taste, so when my group said they loved their food, that was great and I just didn't eat my sides. Over all, the food was good, the customer service over the phone could use some work, and the customer service in person was OK. I was very happy with Kimberly because she was the employee spearheading the remake of my food and was able to do so promptly and kindly. This used to be one of our favorite places. Unfortunately it has gone down hill. They are always short staffed. Friday night we waited an hour after ordering and finally left. Yes there was a large party of 24, but they need to accommodate all of the customers if they are allowing such a large special seating. On the good side, menu is fixed. For dinner in Florida, we visited Mr. Tequila's. It didn't look like much from the outside, but the food was very good. They give you free chips and salsa. The salso was good, but the chips tasted like they were straight out from a bag. At Mr. Tequila's, I figured I had to try a margarita. This time I decided to take the margorona, which is a margarita with a corona in it. To be honest, I'd prefer a regular margarita. I don't think I want a beer mixed with my margarita. However, it was a new experience. My meal was the best. It was called a caldo de mariscos. It was a seafood soup. It had crab legs, octopus, shrimp, oysters, and fish. I would definitely order this again. It also came with rice and tortillas. I was too full to finish it or to eat the tortillas. I hate to say it, but I don't think Mr. Tequila has the best carnitas any more. I came here the other week with an old co-worker as the taco wagon we were heading too wasn't open that night. He had been there before and we were both looking forward to some good carnitas tacos or maybe some of the green chile enchiladas they do right. the menu was a bit different, but this place has always been improving it presentation and sprucing itself up a bit over the years, which is great. I ordered the carnitas tacos like I often do here and and my co-worker, who is from Venezuela, starting chatting up the waiter to find out if there were any really good things off menu or things to try. But it didn't sound like it was going all that well. When you here there isn't any chocolate in the mole you start to wonder. Always we both ended up getting tacos. Rather than the traditional onion and cilantro they set down some lettuce and tomato covered tacos. Which was fine, but not what I was looking for and not what I had come to expect here. Also, in the past the carnitas were rich and flavorful with the fat and meat just a touched caramelized. These were plain and dull. While the meat was good, the flavor and the touch that made them special was gone. Not sure what happened, but things had changed at Mr. Tequilla while I was off playing at the taco wagons. It is still good, but it seems to have lost some of its edge and probably adapted to a changing client base. My pal from Venezuela felt the same, and it has been a bit longer since he had last been there and it wasn't up to what he remembered either. This is a perfect spot to go for authentic Mexican, either for lunch or dinner. Our server Elizabeth was on fire today, running the entire dining room during the lunch rush like a BOSS! She did have a food runner, but aside from that, it was all Elizabeth. I was stunned watching her give equal love to 14 tables of 2-4 people, on top of a large party of construction workers, and she never even broke a sweat or lost her cool once. Been living in bradenton for a couple months now and this is hands down the worst food I've ever had. The salsa looks and taste like tomato sauce with a little cilantro in it. My chili releno with chicken was inedible. The ground beef had some type of seasoning that made me want to puke. Last time I was here was in mid-2009. The prices are reasonable, most of the food I've had is good, the large frozen margarita with 1800 tequila is tasty and strong and the salsa is decent (have ordered a large container to go on occasion). My ultimate favorite here was the chicken soup. They used to give a small bowl free along with the salsa and chips before the meal arrived. I am not sure if they still do that or if I got any on that very last visit. Oh, and you also see real Mexicans (straight from the Motherland or descended, not quite sure) eating here. The white queso dip is also good along with the fried ice cream. So why am I giving Mr. Tequila 2 stars instead of a solid 4? Well, 1 star is for the soup and the other for the frozen margaritas, but when I went to the women's bathroom on that last visit it wasn't super clean, but the real kicker was that I saw one of those flying (in Florida they do) German roaches crawling around. If that isn't a reflection of what's going on in their kitchen, I don't know what is. Seeing that dirty little thing roaming around totally turned my stomach. They seriously need to do a Gordon Ramsay all over clean up and call in an exterminator. I probably should have rung up the Health Department at the time, but in pennance, I am giving you the heads up instead. If you do end up going get a double large frozen margarita to kill any of the funky roach germs you may encounter. I hope that's not what gave their delicious chicken soup extra flavor. Out looking for a new Mexican restaurant and came across this place. First and last time here. Taco was soggy, everything was cooked with nothing but chili powder. I truly think this is the only spice in their cupboard. I tried the enchilada sampler (cheese, beef, chicken etc.). Well, again, nothing but chili powder. Had to dissect them to see what the filling was. Waiter came by 3 total times; take drink order, deliver drinks, chips and salsa and take order then back to deliver food. I hate to leave bad reviews, especially right now when a lot of businesses are struggling. But constructive feedback is necessary and there were just too many mistakes with our service. The place is a little cute hole in the wall, they have a bar and a mariachi band which luckily left us alone. The server was nice enough (until a mistake was made) and clearly misunderstood much of what we asked of her. She brought us chips and salsa which was nice but the salsa was the most mild salsa I've ever had. A bit of bite would make it better. We started off ordering drinks (I needed to see the size difference as there are 3 sizes for margaritas PLUS a pitcher- maybe pictures on the menu would save table staff and customer time?) I got a medium which was huge but probably could've used a large to cover the whole time we were there. The margarita was excellent, my friend ordered a rum and Coke (full bar) which the waitress did not understand and had to bring the host over to clarify. Her rum & coke was extremely watery, she did not enjoy it. We ordered food and it comes out fairly quickly, but my dish came with chicken instead of the steak that is listed in the description. I point this out to the waitress and she insists I asked for chicken. I definitely did not, I pointed exactly at the dish I wanted as I was unsure of the pronunciation and did not ask for modifications. I thought maybe she misheard because of the mariachi band playing, but didn't appreciate being told that the mistake was on my end with attitude and zero apology. If I wanted a chicken dish I would not have ordered a dish that is steak? She takes it back with some hesitation and quickly enough I get the correct dish. We begin eating and decide that we need straws (these margaritas are so large I have no idea why straws aren't offered, as the glass is very heavy, and other groups clearly had them). We hope that the waitress will check on us but she is sitting at a table in the corner folding silverware and it takes staring down at the table until she looks over to get her attention. We ask for two straws, and this is when it becomes clear that maybe this waitress shouldn't be on tables. She comes back with two rum and Coke's for the both of us (I still clearly have my margarita in front of me). We don't want to deal with the hassle of correcting ANOTHER thing so take them, but again they are watery- not what you'd expect from a full bar and an easy drink. My friend described it as mostly watery Coke with maybe a hint of rum. Gross and still no straws. We finish eating and I want another drink, she comes up to us after a wait and asks if we want the check. Not how is everything, not is there anything else, but do you want the check. Uhm not quite? I get my drink finish it quickly and we are ready to pay and leave. We sit there waiting for her to come back but she's at the table again this time with two other workers. I make eye contact with the male sitting a cross from her twice but no one comes over so I take my card out and put it on the table hoping someone will see this as a signal that we are ready to leave. She comes by, grabs the card and rings us out without giving an itemized receipt but we are annoyed by this point and ready to get home so we ignore it, don't check that everything was charged appropriately and still leave a good tip despite the flawed service. On the way out my friend asks for a receipt since we declined to split the check (knowing it would be another hassle). Thankfully she asked because upon checking the receipt, I have been charged for the first dish that was incorrect on top of the dish I ordered! Not to mention it's tacked into the end of the bill, as in they rang out our proper food and all of our drinks and thought at the end wait we should charge them for this third meal that we messed up on and nobody ate?! They do not open today for another hour but I plan on going in to address this overcharge.
