Mr.Tokyo is always such a great go to. I wish they opened a little earlier. My take out order usually has a 45 minute wait time, but it's always worth it. I know this going in and adjust my day accordingly. The chicken teriyaki is so good and the tempura is perfect. My husband always gets the Mr. Tokyo Special. It has a little bit more variety. What an amazing place! If you're there for dinner you'd be served with Miso soup first, then they take your order. We tried Tuna roll, vegetable tempura and combination udon noodles and hey, everything tasted amazing. The service was great for such place. I had not been here for a few years, but I sure enjoyed the meal. It was the Mr. Tokyo special for just under $20, and there was plenty of food. I posted a picture. There was tempura, a perfectly grilled salmon fillet with ginger sauce on the side, a cucumber salad, sushi, and a skewer of chicken and bell pepper with a teriyaki sauce drizzled on it. A bowl of white rice accompanied this with miso soup served as the appetizer. My husband got the grilled shrimp and teriyaki chicken. Was delicious for both entrees and filling. Very nice staff! I was glad to see they didn't go under during COVID. Worth going back. They have a nice lunch menu as well. read more

We went for the first time tonight to Mr. Tokyo and had a great meal. The shrimp tempura and vegetables were cooked perfectly and light as air. We also had the chicken teriyaki on fried rice and the chicken yaki udon noodles. In both dishes the chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly. The teriyaki sauce was light and very tasty. The fried rice had great flavor. The udon noodles and sauce were also very good. We will definitely be back. read more

This place is a hidden gem. We came here for dinner and the service was wonderful. The server was very nice and answered all of our menu questions. The ambiance is calm and the space is small, but perfect for a date night. The food, well, it's delicious!! Fresh, hot, crispy. What more can you ask for? We got the vegetable tempura which was so crunchy. Literally right out of the fryer. The agi tofu, fried tofu, was wonderful. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Unfortunately I can't give them 5 stars due to the extremely limited options for sushi and sashimi. With quality like this, I want to have 4 rolls and some yellow tail sashimi. Only having beef and tuna options for sashimi is simply unacceptable. The limited sushi roll selection I can understand, but if you're going to have two cooked salmon options, I'd expect you could have a raw salmon roll and a philidelphia roll. No unagi on the menu unlike before. If we were working with a 10 point system, they'd get a 9/10, so consider this a 4.5 stars. read more

Price for teriyaki is in line with other such eateries around the Duke City. Good value. Service is passable. The space is clean and serene, we were greeted warmly upon entering and served with kindness the whole time. The menu is small, mainly sushi, hibachi and fried rices so my husband and I tried extra hard to order different things so we could share like we always do. We had heard the egg rolls are made fresh so we started with those and they were so different than any others we have ever had, in a wonderful way! The wrapper was crispy and not greasy while the contents were identifiable and not slimy. We ordered steak hibachi and chicken udon noodles. Those who read my reviews know I have to tell it like it is. Mr. Tokyo, you've won my #1 spot for worst Japanese food I've ever had. 1. Sushi was not fresh, and has SO much rice 2. Sukiyaki noodles were broken. Extremely salty. Extremely sweet. 3. Tempura tasted like it was made the night before and then microwaved. It was chewy, kinda stale. 4. The cooked fish tasted ok after I doused it with lemon. Why are you in the business of making Japanese food? My thoughts : option A) hire a Japanese chef. Love this little "hole in the wall" type Japanese restaurant. The staff are always friendly and the food has always been good. I love going to a traditional style Japanese steakhouses, but you pay partly for the experience. I've been coming here for decades ( not kidding) but never reviewed. On a holiday visit home we decided to grab dinner and it was as good as I remembered. I got the sliced steak and grilled shrimp, all hibachi meals come with perfectly steamed white rice and a veggie mix with onions, zucchini, and sprouts in delicious teriyaki sauce. Visually...the roll looked odd. It looked more like a egg salad sushi roll. Fortunately, it tasted better than it looked. Unfortunately, I didn't feel too well a couple hours later. I decided to give Mr Tokyo a try again after many years. It's a small place, simple, clean. It's located next door to my gym and thought a simple roll would be a light satisfying dinner. The menu does not offer much for sushi options. Most of the menu consisted of teriyaki and habachi plates. This might be what they are better known for. Will I be back? I wouldn't make an effort. But I am curious about their teriyaki/hibachi lunch specials. But I am a bit frightened that I may not feel good again after. I'll have to think this one over. read more
