    a menu for sukiyaki

Japanese food in ABQ is pretty difficult to locate. I was in search of authentic flavors, not Japanese fusion. I had Nagomi bookmarked and was glad we finally tried it! On this first visit we were hesitant to try any raw seafood in fear that the sashimi & sushi would not be the freshest. We settled on Pork katsu, Japanese curry and sukiyaki. The curry had an eggplant option as well as the usual katsu choice. The curry sauce was really good. Sukiyaki was good, but not what I would call traditional. Soft shell crab app was also great as the crabs were plump! Will dine here again when I return!

As much as I wanted to love nagomi, it wasn't for me. The service was great, the place and bathrooms were clean... but the food is where I personally felt it was lacking. The sushi was room temperature at best -- and 2 of the 3 rolls we got were (supposed to be) cold rolls... the food was good, just not my style. I would come back if someone invited, but would not go out of my way to return.

I'm writing this review after 3 visits and trying something different each time. I had high hopes and am pleasantly pleased with their food! The Korean kimchi soup is FANTASTIC. I inhaled the kimchi (pre cooked and cooked). The pork katsu makes my Father extremely happy since that's his favorite dish and they make it wonderfully. I was happy with the sushi I ordered on my 2nd trip. Today, I ordered a bento box with the grilled mackerel. It was perfectly grilled. The skin was nice and crispy, and the meat of the fish was warm and moist. The tuna sashimi was great, and the tempura was battered well (not overdone/thick).

Food was fantastic! By far the best and most authentic Japanese food I've had in Albuquerque. I did not try the sushi, as there are SO many sushi restaurants around and we were just so thrilled to find a place that had a full menu of noodles, soups and rice dishes. The atmosphere is not fancy or impressive, feels a bit like an undiscovered hole in the wall. Service was good, it appeared there were only two people working - a hostess and a server - but as there were only a couple other patrons in the place, we were well attended to. Highly recommend if you are looking for good Japanese food that isn't just the same ol' afterthought hot dishes menu offered at most sushi places around town!

Great! This is a small place and have passed so many times not realizing it was there! The sushi is absolutely delicious and great price. It looked like there was only two works at the place but service is fast and great. Will definitely be going back!!

We have been going to this place for over five years. It has consistently been one of our favorite restaurants in Albuquerque and among the top sushi restaurants in town. Plenty of seating and one of the few places around that do authentic shabu shabu. The wait staff and the sushi chef are always very inviting and friendly, and as accommodating as they can be. The fish is always very fresh and very thick cut. Everything we've ever ordered off of the menu has been delicious.

A very casual family dining joint. We came around noon, it was not busy at all on a weekday. First time here so we chose the bento box and got several drinks to try. Bento box comes with some four pieces of California rolls, pickled veggies, a bowl of rice, salad, miso soup, some fruits, and good variety tempura. We chose chicken karaage and pork katsu for the main protein. Tempura is very crispy and fresh. There are onion, pumpkin, shrimp, zucchini and sweet potato. Drinks are packaged can and bottle. From the exterior, I didn't expect the authentic taste. It's truly a hidden gem!

とてもおいしいですね I like coming here, it's my kind of food. I've worked my way through the lunchtime Bentos...my fav is the Hamachi Kama, Chicken Karaage, and the Saba (Mackerel). I have also enjoyed the Oyako Donburi, Curry w/Chicken Karaage Yum!! The Agedashi Tofu is prepared the way I like it, tofu lightly battered, steeping in gingery-negi (Japanese long green onion) broth ahhh! That's my husbands fav, along with the spicy tuna roll. This is the kind of food that restores the good feels: Shabu Shabu, Yodofu, Chanko-Nabe, Nabeyaki Udon, Grilled Hamachi Kama! #ifyouknowyouknow

This must have been my second time at this restaurant. I really enjoyed the food here and the service was good too. We came to have dinner at this restaurant. We spent quite a bit of time going through the menus -- there are many options to choose from -- shabu-shabu, bento box, udon, sashimi, sushi, etc. Since it's pretty hot outside, I settled for the rice tray set. Also we ordered natto for my friend to try. The natto was pretty good. My friend tried it for the first time and he said he was okay with a bit of strong after taste. I had the sashimi with rice and sides and it was very filling. I walked in the restaurant pretty hungry but left with full belly. Looking forward to try their shabu-shabu in the near future.

The broth was spicy but a little oily tasting. I was sweating the whole time which was awesome! The veggies, meats and mushrooms all had great flavor. This place was obviously using fresh ingredients. I'm sharing a copy of my bill so you can see that they itemize for things like the sauce/ ice cream bar as well as the cc fee. I like when restaurants do this because it means that they don't make everyone pay for things if they don't want those things. It means that this restaurant is going the extra mile to provide a good value. We were impressed and we'll be back for more awesome food and excellent service!

We have been eyeing it for a while. Like most restaurants we like to visit, it is family owned with nice decor and enough space. The menu shows many Japanese and Thai options, all of them equally appetizing. The server was quite friendly, helping us choose the chicken Pad Thai (extra spicy) and the beef pineapple rice. The pad Thai was deliciously spicy on its own accord, but the Thai chiles gave it the extra kick the hubby was hoping for. An additional chile paste gave it a bit of smokiness. The pineapple rice was slightly sweet, as expected. What surprised me was that it had raisins! I do not like raisins but the dish was so good and the raisins were such a muted ingredient that I did not mind it. Overall, this was a very nice and satisfying first visit at Tomi Sushi, getting us interested in trying more items in their menu.

It was so good last year that we actually had a conversation with the owner about them being from San Francisco, after I told him it was the best Chinese food I've had in America outside of San Francisco. Well, that has changed significantly, and not for the better. We made a trip down from Santa Fe this week, specifically to eat at Noodle Works. Yes, we drove over an hour each way on Monday just to eat here. What a mistake! It was clear the General Tzo chicken was microwaved and not fresh fried. It was absolutely inedible! Mall food court Chinese is better than this dish was. Strange because almost exactly 1 year ago their General Tzo's dish was among them best I've ever tasted. I know this dish is not authentic, but to serve pre-fried then microwaved chicken is inexcusable! The Singapore Noodle dish this time was incredibly dry. The curry was more like a dry rub stuck to the noodles than it was a real curry sauce. Again... mall food court quality. Another dish that used to be amazing here. The crab in the crab rangoon was so fishy you could smell it before it was even delivered to the table. It had clearly sat out unrefridgerated during prep for far too long. It was inedible, or of fear of getting food poisoning... they did take it off of our bill. We are so disappointed in how bad the quality has fallen off in the last year! We loved them so much in the past that we will give them one more try, but we will not be making a special trip down from Santa Fe to eat here again. We REALLY hope they get their act together because we really like the employees and owner and want to continue to support them. Management did apologize without being prompted for the slow service and poor quality food, so hopefully they know serious improvement is needed if they are to stay in business. We wish them the best because they are great people. Good luck!
