Wish I could give a lesser rating than that of 1 star, because honestly whoever they hired to take phone orders doesn't even deserve that. Apparently she doesn't have the intelligence nor intellect to; A - Handle business/orders when she's become overwhelmed & "busy" & B - never comprehended decency when dealing with the public. My mother called to place a to go order, this girl answered the phone during normal business hours & said they were not taking orders and hung up. My mom didn't even hear what she said because it was garbled and less than 10 seconds of interaction, she's a senior citizen. She proceeds to call back to find out why she's been hung up on, & is rudely told "we are not taking orders right now, DO NOT CALL BACK" *click* No other explanation, just absolutely rude & unacceptable behavior. My mom calls me, upset she can't order our dinner, so I call in. Guess what? Not even 20 minutes later, the same chick who hung up on my mother answers and is now able to take an order. I ask her why she was so rude to my mother and why couldn't she take her order 20 minutes prior... her response? "I was busy". I ask to speak with the owner, George. She says he will call me back, doesn't take my number... and hangs up. Now I try not to pass judgment on people I don't know, but this person has no business representing any business that intends on keeping their long term customers. We've been ordering here for 10+ years, but that ended today. I also have ordered catering for the race teams I work with, never again. Learn some manners, & maybe you won't have to answer phones at a sandwich shop... you've proved you're not even capable of that girlfriend. read more

George has always made a great sandwich. I once asked him to put less meat on the cornbeef Rueben and he refused. He said every sandwich is made the same. If I want less, take it off or eat half and save half for later. I took that advice and now I get two meals out of one sandwich purchase. Great food! read more

I honestly don't know how this place has stayed in business for so long. I had an Italian sandwich and it was awful. Meat was cut super thick which is not very appetizing for deli meats. Good sandwich's are not that difficult to make and they missed by a long shot. Very unfortunate because I just bought a house down the road from here. George, the owner, would never in a million let anyone walk out of there without knowing they had the best sandwich ever. Comedian Mitch Hedberg used to say that some subs should come with a loaf of bread.... and I'd be willing to bet that he wrote that joke after a show in Daytona, and lunch at Mr. Wich. Not a fan of the pizza at all. It's a weird dough and crust. Almost like it's whole wheat or something. I will say they are generous on the toppings though as a large pizza feels like it weighs five pounds, lol. I love their subs. I've been eating them since college and they haven't changed a bit. They're a little bit more expensive than most of the chains but they give you so much meat, it seems fair. Lady at the counter was nice. Food was ready fast. Side note tho, unfortunately, the inside of the building is in bad shape. We made the mistake of looking up while we were waiting for our food and were horrified by how disgusting the ceiling was with obvious water leaks, stains, and just general grossness. Sure the sandwich is piled high with meat. So what. That does not mean it's good. My ham was so tasteless I threw half of it away. No fries. Lots of potato salad and macaroni salad, if you want to take your taste buds back to 1970. The franchises have tastier sandwiches and sides, and I hate most franchise places. Stopped in for take-out lunch, seemed like a good sub place according to Yelpers. The first thing I noticed was the "we don't talk to cell phones" sign, indicating you should end your call before approaching the counter - LOVE IT! I ordered the daily special turkey sandwich, and then watched horrified as an older man with wet hands reached into a bucket and came out with turkey in his claws! Plop - right on the bread. No gloves, of course, and why the turkey bucket? Maybe there's nothing wrong with having a turkey bucket, I don't know. Maybe they clean it every morning, or twice a day, I just don't know. But to say it looks unappealing is saying it nicely. I was so hungry I tried it anyway, and it just didn't do it for me. Very big meaty sandwiches. So big that I couldn't kill it in one sitting. Each half was the size of an entire ciabatta sandwich. Spoke with George who seems to be the owner and asked if he ever thought of making portions smaller and raising prices. :) He stated that he had been doing things his way for 25+ years. He doesn't really want to change things. He is passionate about his work. He works 16 hours a day. I respect this man very much. Businesses like this make Ormond a special place. Salt of the earth. Hands down, their 12-inch Combination sub is my favorite sandwich in the world. I live in Atlanta and had my first one while at a family reunion over 30 years ago, and it is still exactly the same! I have had Cuban sandwiches from Miami to LA and this place in Ormond is hands down the best one I have ever had. I have now taken four different people here and keep receiving the same consensus. They make a sandwich that is loaded and tasty. I am not a big bread person so I have usually stuck with the greek salad and loved it. Plenty of meat and feta cheese, Small place that can sometimes get very crowded during lunch times. A few uncomfortable metal benches outside to sit on so it has always been best to get the food and go the the magic forest park just north on Nova. Then you can sit in the shade as well. read more

It comes down to the food. I was eager to try their Reuben, and it was one of the most flavorless Rueben's that I have had. Having lived in Michigan for sometime, Zingerman's Deli has definitely exceeded my expectations of what a reuben really should be like. Mr Wich's reuben was rubbery and did not have enough dressing. I barely finished half of the sandwich. On my most recent trip, I tried their pizza and was left with similar feeling as with the reuben. the sauce was too sweet and the pizza had a lot more cheese than it should have. i'm not giving up on this place though. Mr Wich Deli is a local tradition. Everything on this menu is a "must get". Whether you are looking for hearty pizza, sandwiches absolutely loaded with your favorite cold cuts, the best salads on earth, or amazing desserts - Mr Wich is the place! My favorites are the Reuben, Hot Roast Beef, and Greek Salad. I try to eat there at least twice a month...otherwise I start to suffer physical withdrawals. Yes, its that good. The prices are absolutely reasonable (especially considering the large portion sizes) and I promise the food is worth every penny. I often have nightmares about what would happen if there was no Mr Wich. Whenever I leave town for any period of time the first place I go when I get back is Mr Wich. If I was on death row - this would be my last meal. The owner is a great guy and very friendly (as is all the staff). When I opened it up in the car I was shocked - I thought I was back in a New York Deli. The meat was piled high!!! Had to be 1/4 lbs on my sandwich. The Flavor just Burst & tantalized my taste buds. Take out only! There are a few tables outside, but the view is of Granada Blvd and all the traffic driving by. However, the food is very tasty for the value. The daily lunch specials offer great variety, and the food is always prepared fresh. Their $5.00 subs blow every sandwich shop out of the water. A six inch sub has enough meat to be made into a twelve inch. Super heavy in weight. The only con is sometimes the place is so busy in a rush you can tell the food wasn't prepared with the same care as it would have been on a regular day. I recommend trying the pizza lunch special. $3.50 for two slices and a coke. read more

Happened upon this place today and this will be my go-to place for a sub in the area from now on! I got an 8-inch turkey sub and there was so much meat on it, they couldn't even close the sandwich! After eating at Mr. Wich, I don't ever want to eat at Subway or Jimmy John's again. Yes, this place is a hole in the wall and has an outdated sign, but I think that's part of its charm as a Mom-and-Pop sub shop! It's independently owned and operated.
