From steak and cheese, Italian, meatball sausage pamasian to chicken tenders and frech fries. Fries are always superb hot and plenty. I went with a pastrami grinder: onions, toasted, mustard, Swiss. This thing came out packed. Flavor on point, execution flawless. The bread had that perfect New England balance--crusty enough to give you a little resistance, not so crusty that you feel like you're gnawing through drywall. They offer two bread options: house-made or frozen/reheated. I went with the latter because the house-made sizes are basically "medium-ish" and "food challenge." The large one could feed two people comfortably, three if they're lightweights. I wanted a clean 8‑inch sub, so premade it was. My wife ordered the ziti and meatballs, and you need to understand something: Mr. Z's is known for its baked pasta. There's a layer of cheese on top thick enough to make all of France weep into its fancy little coffees. Underneath that molten blanket is perfectly cooked ziti and genuinely delicious homemade meatballs. It's the kind of dish that hits you right in the comfort-food cortex. I also know from experience that their Italian sub is dialed in, and the pizza? Fantastic. New England pizza parlors occupy a sacred space that chains simply cannot touch, and Mr. Z's fits right into that tradition. Please read, I know this is a long review, but it is worth reading. I do not want anyone else to get sick or have a similar experience. If I could leave zero stars, I would. For the first time, we ordered from Mr. Z's Pizzeria on 267 High Street in Clinton after discovering our usual restaurant, Primo's, was closed that Sunday. We ordered two large cheese pizzas for $32, which felt expensive given the quality received. When we got home, the pizza was extremely salty and also excessively greasy well beyond what would be considered normal for a properly prepared pizza. It was difficult to eat, and some family members were unable to finish it due to health-related concerns. The slices were also unevenly cut and appeared poorly prepared, which added to the overall impression of low quality. When I called to address the issue, the same young lady who originally took my order answered the phone. She was polite, professional, and offered to check whether a refund, credit, or resolution could be provided. She then transferred me to the manager, who I believe is named Rob. I calmly and respectfully explained the situation. However, during the call he immediately placed me on hold and then disconnected the call, which required me to call back. On the second call, I again attempted to explain the issue and request a refund for one of the two pizzas, as the second box was completely untouched due to the quality concerns. My intention was to obtain a refund so I could order food elsewhere for the children, as they were unable to eat the pizza. The manager remained dismissive and repeatedly stated that the issue was simply that we "didn't like the pizza." He also stated that even the owner would have the same response and declined to offer any refund or alternative resolution. He further stated that he had been working there for 15 years, which came across as justifying his approach rather than addressing the concern at hand. He indicated he was too busy to continue the conversation, despite the restaurant being empty when I later visited in person. When I returned to the restaurant, I brought the second untouched pizza box with me to clearly demonstrate that we were not attempting to obtain anything free, but rather seeking a fair resolution due to the quality concerns. I also left the pizza at the establishment, as it was not suitable for consumption due to how excessively salty, greasy, and outside normal expectations it was. At that point, the situation escalated further. The manager repeated that we "simply did not like the pizza," refused to acknowledge the issue, and stated he would not change his recipe for me. He also indicated he was calling the police and appeared to be on the phone with them; however, no officers ever arrived. Overall, the interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional, with no effort made to address or resolve a legitimate customer concern. The young lady who assisted both in person and on the phone as I mentioned was kind and professional, which stood in contrast to the manager's behavior After looking on Yelp, I saw the ratings are not good, and I would have never ordered from here if I had known. I highly recommend others do their research before ordering. Don't waste your money or risk your health. In the end, this was not about the money it was about how we were treated as customers and the complete lack of respect and professionalism shown when we simply tried to voice a legitimate concern. I have to admit, nostalgia might get the better of my 4-star rating when it comes to good old Mr. Z's pizza. To rate Massachusetts sub shop pizza compared to what you will find in NYC, LA or Naples is a bit of a fool's errand. It's like picking apart a middle school play. Why bother? The sweet sauce, spongy crusted Greek-style pizzas in Massachusetts with their sheet of cheese are almost a category of pizza in amongst themselves. While it's not by any means good pizza, if you grew up eating it in the parking lot of a high school growing up, you are going to have a soft spot in your heart (and a hard spot in your arteries) for this style of pie I didn't grow up in Clinton but early in my career, I came to town on a project and fell in love with Mr. Z's 'house special' pizza. Today, the pizza tastes a bit different and costs a lot more. Mr. Z's special contains copious amounts of shredded green peppers, onions, canned mushroom slices, pepperoni, sausage and hamburger meat. Or, at least I think that's all in there mixed in with sauce as sweet as ketchup. I loved it back then ... this time, the water from the peppers and canned mushrooms made the pizza kind of soupy and soggy. It was tasty ... average ... and hard to eat. The double cheese pepperoni came with a layer of cheese like cement. Minutes after eating a piece, I could smell my body emitting a strange grease smell ... like when you eat lobster generously dipped into fresh melted butter. The pepperoni wasn't that spicy and the pizza was average and unremarkable. Unlike the watery Z's Special ... this was dry. The double cheese either soaked up the sauce or they didn't put as much on. I had a steak bomb sub here once ... once. It was as dry as sawdust and tasted like Dyson came out with a tool to suck all the flavor out of the meat. I won't be getting a sandwich again. If you want small town Greek pizza ... you'll do no better, or worse, than Mr. Z's. Not much atmosphere inside ... but the food is reliably average and the food comes out relatively fast. Stick with the pizza you know and you won't be disappointed. Don't expect greatness here ... but it's not money wasted, either. read more

I don't know where to begin to describe how bad this pizza was. My husband did his best when he said the cheese had the texture of the dried out, leathery skin of an elderly man. So how did the pizza get to this unfortunate state? It was likely that delivery driver was waylaid by a member of the Foot clan and he had to cower while the Ninja Turtles rescued him from his fate. When we called to check on our pizza an hour after we had ordered, the very rude girl on the phone said he had already left so we just had to wait. When the driver arrived, he must have had the afore mentioned ordeal because he looked like he'd been through hell. Hopefully the sympathy tip helped him but the cold pizza and the soggy onion rings have made us rethink our life choices. Skip these guys. Their food belongs in the trash and not in your stomach. Wow.. just wow... Pizza top notch. Crust was amazing! Cooked perfect and delicious. Ok now the sampler... wings was on point!!! Puts BWW and Hooters to shame... Crunch to the max and flavorful. Had a great lunch at Mr. Z's today. Pizza was great as usual, salad also good. Price is always right. I just wish the staff was a bit better, more friendly and less seeming aggravated all the time. The front counter service is really where continued customers are. A family member is buying a new house in Clinton and we hope to get more pizza from Z's but the staff must get more pleasant. I ordered a large pizza with Italian sausage, garlic & mushrooms, side of onion rings and Greek salad. The delivery was very fast (about 20 minutes) for a Friday night. The pizza crust was slightly crunchy which was nice. However, the mushrooms were from a can and ruined the entire pizza. There was very little sauce and the overall pizza was dry. Two people had one slice each, the rest went into the trash. The onion rings were very greasy and had no flavor. Tasted like it was right out of the freezer in to the fryer. The Greek salad was enough for three and I enjoyed it. I'll try Z's again, but not a pizza. Hopefully their sandwiches are better. read more

I'm going to start off saying the food was very good. The sandwiches are huge and packed with good meats and veggies. The Cajun fries, also stone cold, would have been really great. The biggest let down was the delivery taking an hour and a half. (driver got lost... How does this happen in the 21st century?) the bread appeeard fresh baked, by the time my hot sandwich got to me, it was quite cold. It tasted very good, just not hot. I am going to give them another try. This time, however, I will not be getting delivery. I'll go pick it up. Hot sandwiches, fried apps and French fries aren't great when they are delivered an hour and a half later. I'm getting the impression that they forgot to send the order out and when we called and hour after ordering they said the driver had just left. Better luck next time... I am impressed. We have lived in Clinton for three years and recently found Mr. Z's pizza! Being gluten free there aren't many choices when it comes to foods! Especially pizza places. They have various types of gluten free breads, and as a sub lover, they have rocked my world. We eat there a few times a month, and it never gets old. They have even gone out of their way to redeliver a sub that was made wrong even after they were closed! That's a real genuinely good business! They also provided a credit towards our next meal! My boyfriend called and placed an order. The lady on the phone gave him attitude for saying he wanted contactless delivery telling him he needs to let them know at the beginning of the order. We've ordered from here before and that's never been an issue, and if you want to know at the beginning why didn't she ask if it's that important? She said 45 mins. It actually came really fast in 15 mins, but the delivery person did not do contactless. We got steak and cheese subs with extra cheese and a small Alfredo pizza. There was basically no cheese, the steak was extremely dry, gritty and bland. TC Landos is better. Will not get another steak and cheese here. read more

I've been going to Mr. Z's for at least 5 years. We usually get take out, but my kids really like eating inside sometimes so we have definitely done both. They are very generous with their toppings. The Meat Lovers Pizza is the best. I've had many of their pizzas, and other dishes and they are all very good and they are ready quickly. My favorite is their meatball parm sub. The few times I have had problems with my order (in 5 years) they are very quick to resolve the issue. read more
